RESUMO

IgG4-related disease (IgG4RD) is a chronic recurring fibro-inflammatory pathology that is considered to be of autoimmune origin. Histopathology is considered to be the gold standard method for diagnosis. IgG4RD affects multiple organs. IgG4RD was first identified in the pancreas and was called autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP). During the following years, the disease spectrum was expanded and it was realised that the extrapancreatic lesions can precede, coexist or appear after the diagnosis of AIP. At present, several illnesses such as Mikulicz disease, Küttner tumour, multifocal fibrosclerosis, etc, are considered to be part of the IgG4RD spectrum. The symptoms of the disease tend to appear over months and years and diagnosis is achieved on average 13.5 months (4-60 months) after the onset. The purpose of this report was to provide information about a case that was sadly fatal but that permitted a complete histopathological study of the damaged tissues.

RESUMO

Dipylidium caninum is a cestode that requires from the participation of an arthropod in its life cycle. This parasitosis occurs in dogs and cats, and occasionally in human beings. Human cases of D caninum infection have been reported in Europe, Philippines, China, Japan, Latin America and the United States; mostly children, one third of them being infants under 6 months old. The diagnosis of this disease is done by the parasitological study of the feces, observing the characteristics of the gravid proglottids. The treatment is performed by administering broad-spectrum anthelmintics. The authors report a case of a rare infection in a Mexican child.

RESUMO

Bone sarcomas are uncommon tumours, of which osteosarcoma is the least rare, as well as the third most common malignant tumour in childhood, appearing usually between the 10 and 20 years of age. The case the authors present in this work is of a patient suffering from a long-standing condition encompassing skin and soft tissue lesions. After multiple medical treatments, the patient was diagnosed with squamous osteosarcoma, which required aggressive surgical management and chemotherapy.

RESUMO

The faeces of 520 domestic cats, resident in the 16 municipal authorities of Mexico City, were analysed using the method of centrifuging with zinc sulphate (at 33%). Three hundred and ninety-nine animals lived in houses, 121 in apartments. For the purpose of this study they were divided into seven age groups, of 6 months each. Toxocara cati eggs were found in the faeces of 42.5% of the animals. 20.7% of apartment cats and 49.1% of house cats were infected. This difference in the rate of infection is statistically significant (P<0.002.) for the house cats. T. cati was found in all the age groups although most infection was found in animals less than 1 year old. The fact that infection occurred in the whole age range of the cats and in all the municipal authorities means that the risk of being contaminated with this helminth in Mexico City is high. As a consequence, the possibility of developing illness as a result of becoming a host to larva migrans is also high.

RESUMO

Genital candidiasis is a frequent pathology among women. It has a 5 incidence rate of presenting itself in a recurrent way, which leads to a longer treatment. Candida gender has various species. The ones, which are the most usual and the cause of vaginal, cervicovaginal, and vulvovaginal candidiasis are: Candida albicans, C. glabrata and C. krusei. Their presence is related to further appearances. A case study was made to identify the species of Candida gender. It was based on the diagnostics made in three Mexico City hospitals on female genital candidiasis cases. The identified and isolated Candida species obtained were: albicans with a 71.91, C. glabrata with a 11.80, and C. tropicalis with a 7.87.
