RESUMO

This work presents the characterization of the optical and mechanical properties of thin films based on (T a 2 O 5)1-x (S i O 2)x mixed oxides deposited by microwave plasma assisted co-sputtering, including post-annealing treatments. The deposition of low mechanical loss materials (3×10-5) with a high refractive index (1.93) while maintaining low processing costs was achieved and the following trends were demonstrated: The energy band gap increased as the S i O 2 concentration was increased in the mixture, and the disorder constant decreased when the annealing temperatures increased. Annealing of the mixtures also showed positive effects to reduce the mechanical losses and the optical absorption. This demonstrates their potential as an alternative high-index material for optical coatings in gravitational wave detectors using a low-cost process.

An automated measurement system was developed to characterize the spatial gradient, linearity of the spatial gradient, bandwidth and transverse uniformity of a linear variable filter (LVF). To demonstrate this, the LVF fabricated in our group has been measured and analyzed. Simulations for beam spot size effects on measurements were performed for various LVF spectral peak profiles with results indicting significant averaging effect due to beam spot size and this is consistent with experiment results. Moreover, to fit the peak profile more accurately, a modified Pearson VII function was proposed and demonstrated high capability to express complex shapes of peaks mathematically. This provides a methodology for deconvoluting the original LVF peak profile from a measured averaged peak profile and has been verified using actual measured data.

Patellar clunk and crepitation (PCC) have been reported as a consequence of primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The incidence and contributing factors have not been fully defined. We performed this systematic review to evaluate factors associated with PCC following primary TKA. We identified studies on PCC following TKA from an electronic search of articles in Medline, Embase and the Cochrane databases (dated up to May 2018). Eighteen studies altogether, including 600 cases of PCC within 8,131 TKAs, were included in the meta-analysis. Several factors including demographic, intraoperative, clinical variables, and radiographic measurements were pooled for meta-analysis. Among intraoperative and clinical variables, patients involved with patellar retention (odds ratio [OR] = 9.420; confidence interval [CI]: 5.770-13.070), lateral reticular release (OR = 2.818; CI: 1.114-7.125), and previous surgery (OR = 2.724; CI: 1.549-4.790) were more likely to having PCCs. Among radiographic measurements, increased anterior tibial offset (weighted mean difference [WMD] = 0.387; CI: 0.139-0.634), increased joint line changes (WMD = 1.325; CI: 0.595-2.055), and increased knee flexion angle (WMD = 3.592; CI: 1.811-5.374) were considered risk factors associated with PCC. Demographic factors (age, gender, body mass index [BMI], and diagnosis) and other reported radiographic measurements were not associated with PCCs. This study identified intraoperative variables (patellar retention and lateral reticular release), clinical variables (previous surgery), and radiographic measurements (increased anterior tibial offset, increased joint line changes, and increased postoperative knee flexion angle) that contribute to an increased risk for PCC. Modifiable factors (patellar retention and lateral reticular release) should be considered and addressed to limit the risk for PCC following TKA. Patients with conditions that may not be modifiable may benefit from counseling about their increased risks for PCC to limit potential dissatisfaction with their procedure.

Transport sector contributed numerous carbon emissions in China. It is important to promote low-carbon bicycle-sharing using in China. This paper aims to analyze the influencing factors of the satisfaction and engagement of bicycle-sharing in China. An extended model of customer satisfaction is established, which considers both customer satisfaction theory and customer engagement theory. We explore the different effect of convenience, health, safety, and facility on satisfaction of bicycle-sharing using. We also explore the role of satisfaction on three different dimensions of engagement: enthusiasm, participation, and social interaction. Multi-group structure equation model is employed to explore the different roles of gender on the determinants of satisfaction and engagement of bicycle-sharing using. The findings reveal that facilities had the larger effect on satisfaction of bicycle-sharing using than safety and health for male. Safety had the largest influence on satisfaction of bicycle-sharing using for female, followed by facility, convenience, and health.

Threaded connections are the most common pipe fittings used in oil and gas transportation systems. Due to external vibrations, cyclic loads, and pollution, the fitting parts may start getting loose, which could result in pipeline leaks and other environmental disasters. It is of great significance to develop a reliable technique that could provide real-time monitoring of the looseness of pipeline fittings. In this paper, a piezoceramic-based active sensing method combined with the electro-mechanical impedance (EMI) technique was developed to monitor the health condition of threaded pipe connections in real time. Two pipe segments coupled with a threaded coupling fitting were assembled in the laboratory, and a lead zirconate titanate (PZT) patch was surface bonded onto the coupling part. In the experiment, the PZT impedance signatures were measured at each simulated loosening condition. A root-mean-square deviation (RMSD) method was employed to build a looseness index from the measured impedance signatures. To verify the effectiveness of the developed EMI technique, the experimental results were compared with those computed from a numerical simulation. The good agreement from experimental and numerical results highlights that the developed piezoceramic-based EMI technique has great potential for determining early looseness, as well as for monitoring the health status of the pipeline fitting during its service life.
