BACKGROUND: The workplace accommodation process is often affected by ineffective and inefficient communications and information exchanges among disabled employees and other stakeholders. Information systems (IS) can play a key role in facilitating a more effective and efficient accommodation process since IS has been shown to facilitate business processes and effect positive organizational changes. OBJECTIVE: Since there is little to no research that exists on IS use to facilitate the workplace accommodation process, this paper, as a critical first step, examines how IS have been used in the accommodation process. METHODS: Thirty-six interviews were conducted with disabled employees from various organizations. Open, axial, and selective coding were part of the analysis. Fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis was used to identify different levels of IS use based on participants' descriptions. RESULTS: An IS used in the workplace accommodation process consists of electronic request form, accommodation checklist, special budget, specific role, ancillary service, formal policy and procedure. There are different levels of IS use in the current accommodation process. The high-level IS use often results in a better accommodation performance than the low-level IS use, including high efficiency, high effectiveness, and low emotional tolls. Nevertheless, the high-level IS use often uses a specific, inflexible template as well as disregards human elements in the accommodation process. CONCLUSION: This work provides implications that future IS design should raise awareness of disability and accommodation, account for individual differences, involve multiple stakeholder inputs, as well as address the fundamental social issues in the accommodation process.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced nanosystems represent one of the most essential, efficient, and encouraging nanobactericides for eliminating bacterial infection concerning the increasing resistance threats of existing antibiotics. Among them, Fenton-type metal peroxide nanoparticles are exciting nanomaterials with intriguing physiochemical properties, yet the study of this antimicrobial agent is still in its infancy. Herein, a robust pH-responsive Fenton nanosystem is constructed by the assembly of copper peroxide nanodots in pomegranate-like mesoporous silica nanoshells (CuO2@SiO2) that are capable of self-supplying H2O2 and sustainably generating O2. The enhanced antimicrobial performance is attributed to the pH responsiveness and excellent Fenton catalytic activity through either the Cu2+-catalyzed conversion of H2O2 to detrimental ROS under acid treatment or in situ O2 evolution in neutral media. Moreover, in vitro and in vivo investigations demonstrate that this nanocomposite can exhibit boosted antimicrobial capabilities and can significantly accelerate skin wound closure, while retaining outstanding cytocompatibility and hemocompatibility. Given its excellent physicochemical and antimicrobial properties, the broad application of this nanocomposite in bacteria-associated wound management is anticipated.

Recently, the outbreaks of hydropericardium-hepatitis syndrome (HHS) caused by the highly pathogenic fowl adenovirus serotype 4 (FAdV-4) have resulted in huge economic losses to the poultry industry globally. Although several inactivated or subunit vaccines have been developed against FAdV-4, live-attenuated vaccines for FAdV-4 are rarely reported. In this study, a recombinant virus FA4-EGFP expressing EGFP-Fiber-2 fusion protein was generated by the CRISPR/Cas9 technique. Although FA4-EGFP shows slightly lower replication ability than the wild type (WT) FAdV-4, FA4-EGFP was significantly attenuated in vivo compared with the WT FAdV-4. Chickens infected with FA4-EGFP did not show any clinical signs, and all survived to 14 day post-infection (dpi), whereas those infected with FAdV-4 showed severe clinical signs with HHS and all died at 4 dpi. Besides, the inoculation of FA4-EGFP in chickens provided efficient protection against lethal challenge with FAdV-4. Compared with an inactivated vaccine, FA4-EGFP induced neutralizing antibodies with higher titers earlier. All these data not only provide a live-attenuated vaccine candidate against the highly pathogenic FAdV-4 but also give a potential insertion site for developing FAdV-4-based vaccine vectors for delivering foreign antigens.
