RESUMO

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 demonstrated the possibility of neurological complications such as loss of sense of smell and taste, together with respiratory problems. Respiratory training and rehabilitation of neurological sequelae are essential to improve respiratory function and thus quality of life, and the aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of a pulmonary and neurological rehabilitation program. OBJECTIVES: To apply a treatment to reduce dyspnea, increase exertional capacity, increase vital capacity and respiratory muscle strength, together with an increase in olfactory and gustatory sensitivity in post-SARS-CoV-2 patients. METHODS: A randomised controlled experimental study was conducted in 220 patients with a medical diagnosis of COVID-19 and more than 5 months of evolution, dyspnoea or perceived fatigue, including olfactory and gustatory perception problems, of whom 200 patients completed the study. 100 patients were randomly assigned to the intervention group, consisting of an inspiratory training treatment plan (Powerbreathe Plus®) combined with aerobic exercise and olfactory gustatory treatment for 31 days, and 100 patients to the control group, for 31 days without any type of therapy. RESULTS: The study was conducted in post-Covid-19 patients for 5 months. Two hundred patients were divided into an intervention group (n = 100) and a control group (n = 100). The comparison between the groups showed significant differences in spirometric variables; forced vital capacity (p < .001; Eta2 (0.439); Mean: 0,6135), the ratio between both FEV1/FVC (p < 0.01; Eta2 (0.728); Mean:9,313), peak inspiratory pressure (p < 0.01; Eta2 (0.906); Mean:4,526); changes were observed in dyspnoea measured with the modified Borg scale (p < 0.01; Eta2 (0.811); Mean:1,481) and the modified Medical Research Council scale (p < 0.01; Eta2 (0.881); Mean: 0.777); finally, changes were found in neurological variables, in the questions of the Singapore Smell and Taste Questionnaire, How was your sense of smell after treatment? (p < 0.01; Eta2 (0.813); Mean: 1,721) and How is your sense of taste after treatment? (p < 0.01; Eta2 (0.898); Mean: 1,088). CONCLUSION: The implementation of a respiratory rehabilitation treatment plan with the Powerbreathe Plus® device, aerobic exercise and neurorehabilitation with olfactory and gustatory training, is a therapeutic option against respiratory and neurological sequelae in patients who have suffered such sequelae due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The aim of this work is 1) to create a valid, reliable instrument with which toevaluate the risk perception of children and adolescents regarding their use oftechnology (cell phones, Internet, and video games); and 2) to analyze thefrequency with which some risk behaviors occur in relation to perception, technology use and age. 807 children and adolescents from the province ofCordoba (Spain) answered an ad hoc questionnaire with several instruments:sociodemographic data; problematic use of cell phones, Internet, and video games;and risk perception with the Scale on Risk Perception of Technology Use forchildren and adolescents (SRPTU). The results obtained from the factor analysisreveal that the RPSTU has three dimensions, related to cell phones, Internet, andvideo games, respectively. Differences were observed in the relationship betweenage and risk perception, with older people having the highest risk perception.Assessing risk perception will favor the detection and development of preventionprograms for the use of technology in children and adolescents.(AU)

RESUMO

The global occurrence of micropollutants in water bodies has raised concerns about potential negative effects on aquatic ecosystems and human health. EU regulations to mitigate such widespread pollution have already been implemented and are expected to become increasingly stringent in the next few years. Catalytic wet peroxide oxidation (CWPO) has proved to be a promising alternative for micropollutant removal from water, but most studies were performed in batch mode, often involving complex, expensive, and hardly recoverable catalysts, that are prone to deactivation. This work aims to demonstrate the feasibility of a fixed-bed reactor (FBR) packed with natural magnetite powder for the removal of a representative mixture of azole pesticides, recently listed in the EU Watch Lists. The performance of the system was evaluated by analyzing the impact of H2O2 dose (3.6-13.4 mg L-1), magnetite load (2-8 g), inlet flow rate (0.25-1 mL min-1), and initial micropollutant concentration (100-1000 µg L-1) over 300 h of continuous operation. Azole pesticide conversion values above 80% were achieved under selected operating conditions (WFe3O4 = 8 g, [H2O2]0 = 6.7 mg L-1, flow rate = 0.5 mL min-1, pH0 = 5, T = 25 °C). Notably, the catalytic system showed a high stability upon 500 h in operation, with limited iron leaching (< 0.1 mg L-1). As a proof of concept, the feasibility of the system was confirmed using a real wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent spiked with the mixture of azole pesticides. These results represent a clear advance for the application of CWPO as a tertiary treatment in WWTPs and open the door for the scale-up of FBR packed with natural magnetite.

RESUMO

Motor imagery (MI) has been shown to be effective for the acquisition of motor skills; however, it is still unknown whether similar benefits can be achieved in neurological patients. Previous findings of differences in MI ability between people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD) and healthy controls (HCs) are mixed. This study examined differences in the ability to both create and maintain MI as well as investigating the relationship between the ability to create and maintain MI and motor function, independence and quality of life (QoL). A case-control study was conducted (31 PwPD and 31 HCs), collecting gender, age, dominance, socio-demographic data, duration and impact of the disease. MI intensity (MIQ-RS and KVIQ-34) and temporal accuracy of MI (imagined box and block test [iBBT], imagined timed stand and walk test [iTUG]) were assessed. Functional and clinical assessments included upper limb motor function, balance, gait, independence in activities of daily living and quality of life measures. Statistically significant differences in temporal accuracy were observed and partial and weak relationships were revealed between MI measures and functioning, independence and QoL. PwPD retain the ability to create MI, indicating the suitability of MI in this population. Temporal accuracy might be altered as a reflection of bradykinesia on the mentally simulated actions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Therapeutic exercise (TE) recommendations for non-specific low back pain (LBP) are meant to support therapy choices for people who suffer from this condition. The aim of this study was to reach an agreement on the definition and use of TE in the care of people with LBP. METHODS: A Delphi study was carried out with a formal consensus procedure and sufficient scientific evidence, using an established methodology. Four rounds of anonymous questionnaires were administered to create useful suggestions and instructions in terms of the therapeutic activity for patients with LBP, and a group consensus conference. RESULTS: A consensus was reached on most of the questions after 35 physiotherapists completed the questionnaires. Participants agreed that proper TE requires correct posture, body awareness, breathing, movement control, and instruction. Patients with LBP were advised to participate in supervised sessions twice a week for 30 to 60 min for a period of 3 to 6 months. Participants added that tailored evaluation and exercise prescription, monitoring, and functional integration of exercise, as well as using specific equipment, would benefit patients with LBP. CONCLUSIONS: TE recommendations for patients with LBP should be dosed and customized based on their personal psychological needs, level of fitness, and kinesiophobia.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Chronic neck pain (CNP) may be associated with latent myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) in the levator scapulae (LS), which can be treated with ischemic compression (IC) and dry needling (DN). Variables and elastography changes are evaluated to compare the short-term efficacy of two treatments with DN. METHODS: A randomized clinical trial is conducted with 80 participants in two groups: the DN group (n = 40) and IC group (n = 40). The duration is 12 weeks, and mechanical heterogeneity index, pressure pain threshold (PPT), and pain intensity are measured at baseline, immediately after, 48 h after, and one week after treatment. RESULTS: Statistically significant changes were immediately observed between the two groups: PPT decreased in the DN group (p = 0.05), while it increased in the IC group. At 48 h and one week after treatment, these values increased in the DN group and remained higher than in the IC group. The heterogeneity index improved in both groups but more significantly in the DN group than in the IC group. CONCLUSIONS: In subjects with CNP who had latent plus hyperalgesic MTrPs in the LS muscle, DN outperformed IC in PPT, pain intensity, and mechanical heterogeneity index at 48 h and one week after initiating therapy.

RESUMO

The need for alternatives to synthetic pesticides is a priority today, especially when these pesticides are directed against aphids, one of the more challenging pests facing modern agriculture. Essential oils may be one of these alternatives. We assayed the insecticidal potential of essential oils from Thymus vulgaris, Rosmarinus officinalis var. 'prostratus' and Lavandula dentata. Essential oil extraction was carried out by hydrodistillation in a Clevenger-type apparatus for 3 h and their respective composition was elucidated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The essential oil fraction from T. vulgaris contained 81.20% monoterpenoids and 12.85% sesquiterpenoids; R. officinalis var. 'prostratus' contained 91.98% monoterpenoids and 1.93% sesquiterpenoids, while L. dentata contained 69.60% monoterpenoids and 8.05% sesquiterpenoids. The major components found were 1,8-cineole (18.11%), camphor (11.18) and borneol (10.32%) in T. vulgaris; α-pinene (18.72%), verbenone (13.42%) and 1,8-cineole (10.32%) in R. officinalis; and 1,8-cineole (34.65%), camphor (7.58%) and ß-pinene (6.39%) in L. dentata. The insecticidal activity of the essential oils was evaluated by contact toxicity bioassays against the bird cherry oat aphid, Rhopalosiphum padi L. We observed a mortality rate of 78.3% ± 23.9 at 15 µL/mL with T. vulgaris, 54.7% ± 25.8 with L. dentata (although at a lower concentration, 10 µL/mL), and 56.7% ± 25.6 at 15 µL/mL with R. officinalis. Our results suggest that thyme essential oil may be particularly promising for integrated aphid management provided that specific conditions of use and dosages are observed.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Performance and selection rate of non-newly graduated physicians in a medical residency admission test as an indicator for the need of continuing education. METHODS: A database comprising 153 654 physicians who took a residency admission test in the period 2014-2018 was analysed. Performance and selection rates were assessed in relation to year of graduation and performance in medical school. RESULTS: The whole sample scored at a mean of 62.3 (SD ±8.9; range 1.11-91.11). Examinees who took the test in their year of graduation performed better (66.10) than those who took the test after their year of graduation (61.84); p<0.001.Selection rates differed accordingly; 33.9% for newly graduated physicians compared with 24.8% in those who took the test at least 1 year after graduation; p<0.001. An association between selection test performance and medical school grades was established using Pearson's correlation: r=0.40 for newly graduated physicians and r=0.30 for non-newly graduated physicians. There were statistically significant differences in selection rates for every ranking group of grades in medical school based on the χ2 test (p<0.001). The selection rates are decreased years after graduation even for candidates with high grades in medical school. DISCUSSION: There is an association between performance in a medical residency admission test and academic variables of the candidates: medical school grades and time elapsed from graduation to test taking. The evidence of decrease in retention of medical knowledge since graduation highlights the pertinence of continuing education interventions.

RESUMO

Cylindrospermopsin (CYN) is a potent cyanobacterial toxin found in freshwaters worldwide. In this work, the feasibility of the photo-Fenton process under neutral pH using light emitting diodes as irradiation source for the removal of this hazardous cyanotoxin from freshwater was investigated. The impact of the kind of iron chelating agent (ethylenediamine-N, N'-disuccinic acid vs. ethylenedinitrilotetraacetic acid) as well as the effect of the main operating conditions viz. H2O2 dose, Fe(III) load, initial CYN concentration, and Fe(III):EDDS molar ratio on the performance of the process was systematically evaluated. EDDS was selected as the most appropriate iron chelating agent considering the kinetics of the process and the environmental impact (Vibrio fischeri and Artemia salina). Under optimized conditions ([H2O2] = 30 mg L-1; [Fe(III)] = 5 mg L-1; Fe(III):ligand = 1:0.5 (molar ratio)), complete removal of CYN was achieved in 15-min reaction time. Furthermore, the catalytic system showed to be effective in real water matrices (river and reservoir waters) spiked with CYN. Although the presence of inorganic ions (mainly HCO3-/CO32-) and dissolved organic carbon decreased the oxidation rate of CYN due to scavenging reactions and iron coordination, respectively, complete elimination of the cyanotoxin was achieved in all cases. The fate of EDDS along the process was also evaluated to demonstrate that the catalytic system investigated, apart from its effectiveness, warrants the complete absence of residues after reaction. Therefore, the proposed system constitutes a promising method for cyanotoxin treatment either as a drinking water treatment step in conventional plants or as a potential remediation strategy in the natural environment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Patients with advanced illness frequently attend emergency services, accompanied by their relatives. The objective of this study was to explore and describe the experiences of relatives, related to loss and preservation of dignity in end-of-life care in the emergency department. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Descriptive qualitative study. Eighteen in-depth interviews were conducted in the period between January 2020 and June 2020. The Atlas.Ti ® version 9 programme was used as support in the analysis of the speeches. RESULTS: 3 themes emerged: 1) "the urgency of dignity" which includes aspects related to going to the emergency room and moments when dignity can be threatened; 2) "dignity in the hands of health professionals" which deals with attitudes and gaps in communication skills of professionals: 3) "care from the perspective of dignity in emergencies" which includes conditions that can help preserve dignity and those aspects of the health system that interfere in the maintenance of dignity. CONCLUSION: The care of these patients and their families requires specific protocols that include a humane and dignified approach, as well as intervention programmes aimed at health professionals.

RESUMO

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) constitutes a heterogenic group of primary immunodeficiency disorders with a wide-ranging clinical spectrum. CVID-associated non-infectious morbidity constitutes a major challenge requiring a full understanding of its pathophysiology and its clinical importance and global variability, especially considering the broad clinical, genetic, and regional heterogeneity of CVID disorders. This work aimed to develop a nationwide, multicenter, retrospective study over a 3-year period describing epidemiological, clinical, laboratory, therapeutic, and prognostic features of 250 CVID patients in Spain. The mean diagnostic delay was around 10 years and most patients initially presented with infectious complications followed by non-infectious immune disorders. However, infectious diseases were not the main cause of morbimortality. Non-infectious lung disease was extraordinarily frequent in our registry affecting approximately 60% of the patients. More than one-third of the patients in our cohort showed lymphadenopathies and splenomegaly in their follow-up, and more than 33% presented immune cytopenias, especially Evans' syndrome. Gastrointestinal disease was observed in more than 40% of the patients. Among biopsied organs in our cohort, benign lymphoproliferation was the principal histopathological alteration. Reaching 15.26%, the global prevalence of cancer in our registry was one of the highest reported to date, with non-Hodgkin B lymphoma being the most frequent. These data emphasize the importance of basic and translational research delving into the pathophysiological pathways involved in immune dysregulation and diffuse lymphocytic infiltration. This would reveal new tailored strategies to reduce immune complications, and the associated healthcare burden, and ensure a better quality of life for CVID patients.

RESUMO

This work aims at evaluating the fate of microplastics (MPs) along Fenton oxidation. For such goal, realistic MPs (150-250 µm) of five representative polymer types (PET, PE, PVC, PP and EPS) were obtained from commercial plastic products by cryogenic milling. Experiments (7.5 h) were performed under relatively severe operating conditions: T = 80 °C; pH0 = 3; [H2O2]0 = 1000 mgL-1 (15 doses, 1 every 0.5 h); [Fe3+]0 = 10 mgL-1 (5 doses, 1 every 1.5 h). Slight MPs weight losses (∼10%) were achieved after Fenton oxidation regardless the MP nature. Nevertheless, oxidation yield clearly increased with decreasing the particle size given their higher exposed surface area (up to 20% weight loss with 20-50 µm EPS MPs). Clearly, MPs suffered important changes in their surface due to the introduction of oxygenated groups, which made them more acidic and hydrophilic. Furthermore, MPs progressively reduced their size. In fact, they can be completely oxidized to CO2, as demonstrated in the oxidation of PS nanoplastics (140 nm), where 70% mineralization was achieved. The nature of the plastic particles had a relevant impact on its overall oxidation, being more prone to be oxidized those polymers which contain aromatic rings in their structures (EPS and PET) compared to those formed by alkane chains (PE, PP and PVC). In the latter, the presence of substituents also reduced their oxidation potential. Remarkably, possible leachates released along reaction were more quickly oxidized than the MPs/NPs, so it can be assumed that these dissolved compounds would be completely removed once the solid particles are eliminated. Notably, the leachates obtained upon MPs oxidation were more biodegradable than the released from the fresh solids. All this knowledge is crucial for the understanding of MPs oxidation by the Fenton process and opens the door for the design and optimization of this technology either for water treatment or for analytical purposes (MPs isolation).

RESUMO

(1) Background: Introducing ultrasound-guided dry needling to neurorehabilitation treatments increases the beneficial effects of therapy. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of including an ultrasound-guided dry needling session in neurorehabilitation treatment on spasticity and gait-balance quality versus neurorehabilitation treatment in subjects who had suffered a stroke. (2) Methods: A single-blind, randomized clinical trial was conducted. Thirty-six patients who had suffered a stroke in the right middle cerebral artery signed the informed consent for participation in the study. Twenty patients finally participated and were randomly assigned to the control group (neurorehabilitation treatment) or experimental group (neurorehabilitation treatment plus ultrasound-guided dry needling). Pre-treatment and post-treatment data were collected on the same day. The experimental group (n = 10) first underwent an ultrasound-guided dry needling intervention on the tibialis anterior and tibialis posterior musculature, followed by neurorehabilitation treatment; the control group (n = 10) underwent their corresponding neurorehabilitation without the invasive technique. Pre-treatment and post-treatment measurements were taken on the same day, assessing the quality of balance-gait using the "Up and Go" test and the degree of spasticity using the Modified Modified Ashworth Scale. (3) Results: The patients who received neurorehabilitation treatment plus ultrasound-guided dry needling showed a greater decrease in spasticity in the tibial musculature after the neurorehabilitation treatment session (p < 0.001), improving balance and gait (p < 0.001). (4) Conclusions: An ultrasound-guided dry needling session combined with neurorehabilitation treatment reduced spasticity and improved balance and gait in stroke patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The presence of latent myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) in the gluteus medius is one of the possible causes of non-specific low back pain. Dry needling (DN) and ischemic compression (IC) techniques may be useful for the treatment of these MTrPs. METHODS: For this study, 80 participants were randomly divided into two groups: the dry needling group, who received a single session of DN to the gluteus medius muscle plus hyperalgesia (n = 40), and the IC group, who received a single session of IC to the gluteus medius muscle plus hyperalgesia (n = 40). Pain intensity, the pressure pain threshold (PPT), range of motion (ROM), and quality of life were assessed at baseline, immediately after treatment, after 48 h, and one week after treatment. RESULTS: Statistically significant differences were shown between the two groups immediately after the intervention, showing a decrease in PPT (p < 0.05) in the DN group and an increase in PPT in the IC group. These values increased more and were better maintained at 48 h and after one week of treatment in the DN group than in the IC group. Quality of life improved in both groups, with greater improvement in the DN group than in the IC group. CONCLUSIONS: IC could be more advisable than DN with respect to UDP and pain intensity in the most hyperalgesic latent MTrPs of the gluteus medius muscle in subjects with non-specific low back pain, immediately after treatment. DN may be more effective than IC in terms of PPT, pain intensity, and quality of life in treating latent plus hyperalgesic gluteus medius muscle MTrPs in subjects with non-specific low back pain after 48 h and after one week of treatment.

RESUMO

Background: Osteoarthritis of the knee is one of the most common ailments worldwide, and pain management of this condition is critical. Methods: A multicentre randomized controlled trial RCT with three months of follow-up, conducted in parallel groups: hyaluronic acid (HA), dry needling (DN) and ultrasound (US) and isometrics of quadriceps. 60 participants took part in the RCT who were diagnosed with osteoarthritis (Grade 3) of the knee by MRI and active adults (age: 23.41 ± 1.68 years; height: 1.79 ± 0.08 m; body mass: 78.33 ± 9.03 kg; body mass index (BMI): 24.14 ± 1.45 kg/m2). After the assigned intervention, VAS, WOMAC, IPAQ and the Star Excursion Balance test were measured at baseline. At 24 h, 15 days, 30 days, 90 days and 180 days follow-up, all variables were measured again. Results: Comparing statistically significant differences between groups, VAS scores were significant at post-test measurement (HA vs. US + isometric and DN vs. US + isometric) at 24 h (HA vs. DN), at 15 days (HA vs. US + isometric and DN vs. US + isometric) and at 1 month (US + isometric vs. HA and US + isometric vs. DN). Conclusions: There is an improvement in pain intensity in knee osteoarthritis in the short term in patients undergoing DN and conventional US + isometric treatment, but in the long term the HA group shows an improvement in pain intensity. There is also a significant difference in the improvement of knee function at different phases of the study in the various intervention groups. The combination of DN and HA in clinical practice is the best option for the treatment of osteoarthritis.

Objective: to describe the parameters of ventricular electrical activity in basal conditions and during isometric exercise, in young adults of both genders with different degrees of cardiovascular reactivity. Methods: the sample consisted of 130 individuals of both genders, and was divided into two groups: normoreactive and hyperreactive. All of them underwent a digital electrocardiogram in DII lead; LabChart 8 software on an ADInstruments polygraph was used. The following variables were studied: QRS complex, corrected QT interval (QTc), JT interval, Tpeak-Tend interval, ST segment and T wave amplitude at rest, in isometric exercise and during recovery. Results: significant differences between normoreactive and hyperreactive women were found in the amplitude of the T wave, both at baseline, during isometric exercise, and in recovery. Significant differences were only found between men in both groups in the JT interval, during exercise. Conclusions: the changes produced in the autonomic regulation of cardiac function during isometric exercise and recovery were reflected in the ventricular electrical activity in normoreactive and hyperreactive individuals of both genders, mainly in the JT interval and the height of the T wave.

RESUMO

The hoverfly Sphaerophoria rueppellii is currently one of the most effective predators commercially available for aphid pest control. However, knowledge of the reproductive system of males and females of this syrphid is limited. The present article aims to report how changes in the temperature and photoperiod may affect development of the gonads (ovaries and testes), oviposition, and fecundity during the lifespan of S. rueppellii. Four environmental conditions (14L:10D, T: 20 ± 1 °C; 12L:12D, T: 20 ± 1 °C; 14L:10D, T: 25 ± 1 °C; and 12L:12D, T: 25 ± 1 °C) were used to determine oviposition, hatching percentage, and lifespan during a period of 30 days after the adult emergence. The maturation of the ovaries was done under three treatments (barley leaves with aphids always available; barley leaves two days per week with aphids available; no barley leaves available), and in the same environmental conditions noted above. Males at 14L:10D, 20 ± 1 °C; and 14L:10D, 25 ± 1 °C; were used to analyze and study the maturation of the testes. Females at 14L:10D; T: 25 ± 1 °C showed a significant difference in oviposition, percentage of hatching, and rate of eggs. A detailed description of the male and female gonads was undertaken, and it was determined that the conditions in which males sexually mature early are at 14L:10D, 25 ± 1 °C. These results will improve the application of S. rueppellii in crops, for the control of aphid pests.

(AU)

Xanthogranuloma is a rare lesion that characterizes the large group of non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis (NLCH). Different variants of NLCH: xanthoma, juvenile xanthogranuloma, xanthoma disseminatum, necrobiotic xanthogranuloma, reticulum histiocytosis, Rosai Dorfman disease, and a heterogeneous set of rare diseases that share common cutaneous and histopathological manifestations are described as orbital xanthogranulomatous disease of the adult (EXOA). Erdheim Chester disease (ECD) is included in this last group. Our objective is to describe a clinical case with great systemic involvement and skin lesions in both upper and lower eyelids that invalidate the patient physically and psychologically. We present its surgical resolution with wide resection of lesions and reconstruction with total skin grafts with a very good aesthetic and functional result. (AU)

RESUMO

Tetraclinis articulata (Vahl) Masters is an endangered tree growing in coastal and arid environments that is widely exploited by the timber and resin industry, among other applications. In this context, the use of in vitro techniques is highly encouraged for its propagation. We present a protocol for micropropagation using twigs from adult trees as a source of explants. The Schenk and Hildebrandt basal medium (SH) supplemented with 30 g L-1 sucrose, 6.5 g L-1 plant agar, 4.0 mg L-1 6-benzyladenine (BA), and 0.05 mg L-1 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) provided the optimum multiplication rate (90.48 ± 9.52 explants with basal shoots and 2.58 ± 0.29 basal shoots per explant). Application of activated charcoal (AC) or ½ Knop solution in a liquid overlay produced significantly longer shoots. Supplementation of solid media with indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) or NAA gave low rooting percentages (<17%). Addition of 0.9 g L-1 AC improved rooting (40%) but rooting performance was optimal (66.7%) after a pulse treatment consisting of 4 h immersion in liquid SH medium without growth regulators, followed by 8 weeks of cultivation. Rooted microplants were successfully acclimatized (93.33%) in a peat moss and vermiculite mixture (1:1 v/v ratio). The genetic stability of the in vitro regenerated plantlets was confirmed using the randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique. Explant survival and growth remained higher than 90% after 28 weeks of cold storage at both 4 °C and 10 °C. The protocol presented here allows for largescale T. articulata production and could be applied for both ex situ conservation strategies and industrial purposes.
