RESUMO

We are presenting a phonomechanographic study for the calculation of sytolic pressure of the pulmonary artery, following the method proposed by Burstin & Fishleder. Correlation is made of 287 patients with the pressure obtained from the registration of direct-catheterism in the pulmonary artery. We insist on the advantages of this method such as quicker accomplishment, easier calculation and harmless for the patient, and we are analyzing some of the physiologic mechanisms which participate in the calculation of the pulmonary systolic pressure. We concluded that it is a reliable method of a high degree of correlation uith the hemodynamic research, specially when both studies are contemporary.

RESUMO

Four hundred and fifty six angiocardiograms were studied to evaluate the validity of levogram for diagnosis. They were separated in three groups: 1. Right angiocardiogram with a levogram. 2. Right angiocardiogram and left angiocardiogram. 3. Left angiocardiogram only. The distribution according to age, and type of heart disease is shown. The correlation between levogram and left angiocardiogram was looked for. The findings at survey were correlated with the angiocardiographic diagnosis and a high correlation was established. The usefulness of this procedure to diagnose specific type of heart disease in the small child is emphasized.

RESUMO

Anomalies in the development of aortic arches may cause the formation of a vascular ring around trachea and esophagus, responsible for compression symptoms. The most frequently found vascular rings are the double aortic arch, the right arch with left ligament and the retroesophageal right subclavian artery. The diagnosis is established by means of contrast esophagogram. Surgery is usually done through a left posterolateral thoracotomy to dissect widely the retroesophageal area, after liberating the obstruction by section of a secondary vessel. Three cases are reported to illustrate the most frequent types of vascular rings and their management.
