Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder that is predominantly known for its motor symptoms but is also accompanied by non-motor symptoms, including anxiety. Objective: The underlying neurobiological substrates and brain network changes associated with comorbid anxiety in PD require further exploration. Methods: An analysis of oscillation-specific nodal properties in patients with and without anxiety was conducted using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and graph theory. We used a band-pass filtering approach to differentiate oscillatory frequency bands for subsequent functional connectivity (FC) and graph analyses. Results: The study included 68 non-anxiety PD (naPD) patients, 62 anxiety PD (aPD) patients, and 64 healthy controls (NC). Analyses of nodal betweenness centrality (BC), degree centrality (DC), and efficiency were conducted across multiple frequency bands. The findings indicated no significant differences in BC among naPD, aPD, and NC within the 0.01-0.08 Hz frequency range. However, we observed a specific reduction in BC at narrower frequency ranges in aPD patients, as well as differing patterns of change in DC and efficiency, which are believed to reflect the neurophysiological bases of anxiety symptoms in PD. Conclusions: Differential oscillation-specific nodal characteristics have been identified in PD patients with anxiety, suggesting potential dysregulations in brain network dynamics. These findings emphasize the complexity of brain network alterations in anxiety-associated PD and identify oscillatory frequencies as potential biomarkers. The study highlights the importance of considering oscillatory frequency bands in the analysis of brain network changes.

Objective: This work focused on investigating if robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery improved middle term vital outcome for primary brainstem hemorrhage (PBSH). Methods: This work obtained clinical data from patients with PBSH admitted from July 2019 to August 2021. All cases were classified as surgical or conservative treatment group. The general information, Glasgow coma scale (GCS) score, Glasgow outcome score (GOS), along with survival time in patients 60 days after robot-assisted surgery were recorded and analyzed. Results: A prospective analysis was performed on 82 cases meeting eligibility criteria, including 36 from surgical group whereas 46 from the conservative group. Sixty days after onset, the death rate was found to be 19.44% and 50.00% of surgical and conservative groups, separately (cases versus controls, P < 0.05). Furthermore, postoperative GOS and GCS scores of surgical group were significantly higher, and hydrocephalus was lower compared with conservative group. Central fever incidence did not exhibit any significant difference between two groups. Conclusion: Robot-assisted PBSH drainage may improve survivorship and reduce the occurrence of hydrocephalus.

Polymer solar cells (PSCs) rely on a blend of small molecular acceptors (SMAs) with polymer donors, where thermodynamic relaxation of SMAs poses critical concerns on operational stability. To tackle this issue, tethered SMAs, wherein multiple SMA-subunits are connected to the aromatic-core via flexible chains, are proposed. This design aims to an elevated glass transition temperature (Tg) for a dynamical control. However, attaining an elevated Tg value with additional SMA subunits introduces complexity to the molecular packing, posing a significant challenge in realizing both high stability and power conversion efficiency (PCE). In this study, we initiate isomer engineering on the benzene-carboxylate core and find that meta-positioned dimeric BDY-ß exhibits more favorable molecular packing compared to its para-positioned counterpart, BDY-α. With this encouraging result, we expand our approach by introducing an additional SMA unit onto the aromatic core of BDY-ß, maintaining a meta-position relative to each SMA unit location in the tethered acceptor. This systematic aromatic-core engineering results in a star-shaped C3h-positioned molecular geometry. The supramolecular interactions of SMA units in the trimer contribute to enhancements in Tg value, crystallinity, and a red-shifted absorption compared to dimers. These characteristics result in a noteworthy increase in PCE to 18.24 %, coupled with a remarkable short-circuit current density of 27.06 mA cm-2. More significantly, the trimer-based devices delivered an excellent thermal stability with over 95 % of their initial efficiency after 1200 h thermal degradation. Our findings underscore the promise and feasibility of tethered trimeric structures in achieving highly ordered aggregation behavior and increased Tg value in PSCs, simultaneously improving in device efficiency and thermal stability.

Photochemical ozone (O3) formation in the atmospheric boundary layer occurs at both the surface and elevated altitudes. Therefore, the O3 formation sensitivity is needed to be evaluated at different altitudes before formulating an effective O3 pollution prevention and control strategy. Herein, we explore the vertical evolution of O3 formation sensitivity via synchronous observations of the vertical profiles of O3 and proxies for its precursors, formaldehyde (HCHO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), using multi-axis differential optical absorption spectroscopy (MAX-DOAS) in urban areas of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH), Yangtze River Delta (YRD), and Pearl River Delta (PRD) regions in China. The sensitivity thresholds indicated by the HCHO/NO2 ratio (FNR) varied with altitude. The VOC-limited regime dominated at the ground level, whereas the contribution of the NOx-limited regime increased with altitude, particularly on heavily polluted days. The NOx-limited and transition regimes played more important roles throughout the entire boundary layer than at the surface. The feasibility of extreme NOx reduction to mitigate the extent of the O3 pollution was evaluated using the FNR-O3 curve. Based on the surface sensitivity, the critical NOx reduction percentage for the transition from a VOC-limited to a NOx-limited regime is 45-72%, which will decrease to 27-61% when vertical evolution is considered. With the combined effects of clean air action and carbon neutrality, O3 pollution in the YRD and PRD regions will transition to the NOx-limited regime before 2030 and be mitigated with further NOx reduction.

Polymer solar cells (PSCs) are promising for efficient solar energy conversion, but achieving high efficiency and device longevity within a bulk-heterojunction (BHJ) structure remains a challenge. Traditional small-molecule acceptors (SMAs) in the BHJ blend show thermodynamic instability affecting the morphology. In contrast, tethered SMAs exhibit higher glass transition temperatures, mitigating these concerns. Yet, they might not integrate well with polymer donors, causing pronounced phase separation and overpurification of mixed domains. Herein, a novel ternary device is introduced that uses DY-P2EH, a tethered dimeric SMA with conjugated side-chains as host acceptor, and BTP-ec9, a monomeric SMA as secondary acceptor, which respectively possess hypomiscibility and hypermiscibility with the polymer donor PM6. This unique combination affords a parallel-connected ternary BHJ blend, leading to a hierarchical and stable morphology. The ternary device achieves a remarkable fill factor of 80.61% and an impressive power conversion efficiency of 19.09%. Furthermore, the ternary device exhibits exceptional stability, retaining over 85% of its initial efficiency even after enduring 1100 h of thermal stress at 85 °C. These findings highlight the potential advantage of tethered SMAs in the design of ternary devices with a refined hierarchical structure for more efficient and durable solar energy conversion technologies.

Hypoxic microenvironments are intricately linked to malignant characteristics of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Long non-coding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) have been reported to be involved in the progression of GBM and closely associated with hypoxia. Nevertheless, the differential expression profiles as well as functional roles of lncRNAs in GBM cells under hypoxic conditions remain largely obscure. We explored the expression profiles of lncRNAs in hypoxic U87 cells as well as T98G cells using sequencing analysis. The effect of differentially expressed lncRNAs (DElncRNAs) was assessed through bioinformatic analysis. Furthermore, the expression of lncRNAs significantly dysregulated in both U87 and T98G cells was further validated using quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Relevant cell functional experiments were also conducted. We used predicted RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) to construct an interaction network via the interaction prediction module. U87 and T98G cells showed dysregulation of 1115 and 597 lncRNAs, respectively. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis indicated that altered lncRNA expression was associated with nucleotide-excision repair and cell metabolism in GBM cells. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis revealed the association between dysregulated lncRNAs and the Hippo signaling pathway under hypoxia. The dysregulation of six selected lncRNAs (ENST00000371192, uc003tnq.3, ENST00000262952, ENST00000609350, ENST00000610036, and NR_046262) was validated by qRT-PCR. Investigation of lncRNA-microRNA (miRNA)-mRNA networks centered on HIF-1α demonstrated cross-talk between the six validated lncRNAs and 16 related miRNAs. Functional experiments showed the significant inhibition of GBM cell proliferation, invasion, and migration by the knockdown of uc003tnq.3 in vitro. Additionally, uc003tnq.3 was used to construct a comprehensive RBP-transcription factor (TF)-miRNA interaction network. The expression of LncRNAs was dysregulated in GBM cells under hypoxic conditions. The identified six lncRNAs might exert important effect on the development of GBM under hypoxic microenvironment.

Background: Anxiety is one of the most common and disturbing non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, few studies have explored the relationship between functional connectivity (FC) and the rate of anxiety improvement after subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS). Therefore, in this study, we aimed to explore the correlation between FC and the rate of anxiety improvement in patients with PD who underwent STN-DBS. Methods: The resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data of 62 patients with anxious PD (aPD), 68 patients with PD without anxiety (naPD), and 64 healthy controls (HCs) were analyzed according to FC. Intergroup comparison and correlation analyses of anxiety improvement rates were performed. Results: The HC, aPD and naPD groups of zFCs were then used for the ANOVA test, and the results were FDR-corrected. There were 24 significant differences in FCs between the three groups. Post tests were conducted between groups found that 15 significantly different FCs were observed between the naPD and aPD groups. In addition, the two FCs in patients with aPD were significantly correlated with the rate of improvement in anxiety. Conclusion: We found that the two FCs in patients with aPD (olfactory cortex and inferior frontal gyrus [IFG] pars orbitalis; inferior temporal gyrus and posterior orbital gyrus) were significantly correlated with the rate of improvement in anxiety. Our study may help us understand the underlying mechanisms by which STN-DBS improves anxiety in PD patients and identify more effective treatment strategies.

BACKGROUND: Uric acid is a natural antioxidant and it has been shown that low levels of uric acid may be a risk factor for the development of Parkinson's disease. We aimed to investigate the relationship between uric acid and improvement of motor symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease after subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation. METHODS: We analyzed the correlation between serum uric acid levels in 64 patients with Parkinson's disease and the rate of improvement of motor symptoms 2 years after subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation. RESULTS: A non-linear correlation was observed between uric acid levels and the rate of motor symptom improvement after subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation, during both the drug-off and drug-on periods. CONCLUSIONS: Uric acid is positively associated with the rate of motor symptom improvement in subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation within a certain range.

With the power conversion efficiency of binary polymer solar cells dramatically improved, the thermal stability of the small-molecule acceptors raised the main concerns on the device operating stability. Here, to address this issue, thiophene-dicarboxylate spacer tethered small-molecule acceptors are designed, and their molecular geometries are further regulated via the thiophene-core isomerism engineering, affording dimeric TDY-α with a 2, 5-substitution and TDY-ß with 3, 4-substitution on the core. It shows that TDY-α processes a higher glass transition temperature, better crystallinity relative to its individual small-molecule acceptor segment and isomeric counterpart of TDY-ß, and a more stable morphology with the polymer donor. As a result, the TDY-α based device delivers a higher device efficiency of 18.1%, and most important, achieves an extrapolated lifetime of about 35000 hours that retaining 80% of their initial efficiency. Our result suggests that with proper geometry design, the tethered small-molecule acceptors can achieve both high device efficiency and operating stability.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) represents one of the most frequently seen neurodegenerative disorders, while anxiety accounts for its non-motor symptom (NMS), and it has greatly affected the life quality of PD cases. Bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) can effectively treat PD. This study aimed to develop a clinical prediction model for the anxiety improvement rate achieved in PD patients receiving STN-DBS. METHODS: The present work retrospectively enrolled 103 PD cases undergoing STN-DBS. Patients were followed up for 1 year after surgery to analyze the improvement in HAMA scores. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were conducted to select factors affecting the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) improvement. A nomogram was established to predict the likelihood of achieving anxiety improvement. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, decision curve analysis (DCA), and calibration curve analysis were conducted to verify nomogram performance. RESULTS: The mean improvement in HAMA score was 23.9% in 103 patients; among them, 68.9% had improved anxiety, 25.2% had worsened (Preop) anxiety, and 5.8% had no significant change in anxiety. Education years, UPDRS-III preoperative score, and HAMA preoperative score were independent risk factors for anxiety improvement. The nomogram-predicted values were consistent with real probabilities. CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, a nomogram is built in the present work for predicting anxiety improvement probability in PD patients 1 year after STN-DBS. The model is valuable for determining expected anxiety improvement in PD patients undergoing STN-DBS.

Introduction: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by dyskinesia and is closely related to oxidative stress. Uric acid (UA) is a natural antioxidant found in the body. Previous studies have shown that UA has played an important role in the development and development of PD and is an important biomarker. Subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) is a common treatment for PD. Methods: Based on resting state function MRI (rs-fMRI), the relationship between UA-related brain function connectivity (FC) and STN-DBS outcomes in PD patients was studied. We use UA and DC values from different brain regions to build the FC characteristics and then use the SVR model to predict the outcome of the operation. Results: The results show that PD patients with UA-related FCs are closely related to STN-DBS efficacy and can be used to predict prognosis. A machine learning model based on UA-related FC was successfully developed for PD patients. Discussion: The two biomarkers, UA and rs-fMRI, were combined to predict the prognosis of STN-DBS in treating PD. Neurosurgeons are provided with effective tools to screen the best candidate and predict the prognosis of the patient.

For polymer solar cells (PSCs), the mixture of polymer donors and small-molecule acceptors (SMAs) is fine-tuned to realize a favorable kinetically trapped morphology and thus a commercially viable device efficiency. However, the thermodynamic relaxation of the mixed domains within the blend raises concerns related to the long-term operational stability of the devices, especially in the record-holding Y-series SMAs. Here, a new class of dimeric Y6-based SMAs tethered with differential flexible spacers is reported to regulate their aggregation and relaxation behavior. In their polymer blends with PM6, it is found that they favor an improved structural order relative to that of Y6 counterpart. Most importantly, the tethered SMAs show large glass transition temperatures to suppress the thermodynamic relaxation in mixed domains. For the high-performing dimeric blend, an unprecedented open circuit voltage of 0.87 V is realized with a conversion efficiency of 17.85%, while those of regular Y6-base devices only reach 0.84 V and 16.93%, respectively. Most importantly, the dimer-based device possesses substantially reduced burn-in efficiency loss, retaining more than 80% of the initial efficiency after operating at the maximum power point under continuous illumination for 700 h. The tethering approach provides a new direction to develop PSCs with high efficiency and excellent operating stability.

OBJECTIVE: Infection is one of the important and frequent complications following implantable pulse generator and deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrode insertion. The goal of this study was to retrospectively evaluate and identify potential risk factors for DBS infections. METHODS: From January 2015 to January 2021 in Qingdao municipal hospital (training cohort) and The First Affiliated Hospital of the University of Science and Technology of China (validation cohort), the authors enrolled patients with Parkinson disease who had undergone primary DBS placement or implantable pulse generator replacement. The cases were divided into infection or no-infection groups according to the 6-month follow-up. The authors used the logistic regression models to determine the association between the variables and DBS infection. Depending on the results of logistic regression, the authors established a nomogram. The calibration curves, receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, and decision curves were used to evaluate the reliability of the nomogram. RESULTS: There were 191 cases enrolled in the no-infection group and 20 cases in the infection group in the training cohort. The univariate logistic regression showed that BMI, blood glucose, and albumin were all significant predictors of infection after DBS surgery (OR 0.832 [p = 0.009], OR 1.735 [p < 0.001], and OR 0.823 [p = 0.001], respectively). In the crude, adjust I, and adjust II models, the three variables stated above were all considered to be significant predictors of infection after DBS surgery. The calibration curves in both training and validation cohorts showed that the predicted outcome fitted well to the observed outcome (p > 0.05). The decision curves showed that the nomogram had more benefits than the "All or None" scheme. The areas under the curve were 0.93 and 0.83 in the training and validation cohorts, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram included BMI, blood glucose, and albumin, which were significant predictors of infection in patients with DBS surgery. The nomogram was reliable for clinical application.

Objective: Traumatic subdural effusion (TSE) is a common complication of traumatic brain injury (TBI). This study aimed to determine the risk factors associated with subdural effusion and to propose a nomogram to predict the risk of TSE in patients with mild TBI. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 120 patients with mild TBI between January 2015 and December 2020 at the Third People's Hospital of Hefei. The risk factors of TSE were selected using univariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis. A nomogram was developed to predict the incidence of TSE. Receiver operating characteristics and calibration plots were used to evaluate the discrimination and fitting performance. Results: Of the 120 patients, 32 developed subdural effusion after mild TBI. Univariate analysis showed that gender, age, history of hypertension, traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, basilar skull fracture, and cerebral contusion were varied significantly between groups (p < 0.05). Logistic multivariate regression analysis showed that the gender, age, history of hypertension, and basilar skull fracture were independent risk factors for TSE. Based on these results, a nomogram model was developed. The C-index of the nomogram was 0.78 (95% CI: 0.70-0.87). The nomogram had an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.78 (95% CI: 0.70-0.87). The calibration plot demonstrated the goodness of fit between the nomogram predictions and actual observations. Conclusion: Gender, age, history of hypertension, and basilar skull fracture can be used in a nomogram to predict subdural effusion after mild TBI.

Purpose: This study investigated the prognostic value of the albumin-to-fibrinogen ratio (AFR) in patients with sepsis as a consequence of infection at various sites. Methods: A total of 300 patients with sepsis caused by various infection sites, who met the diagnostic criteria for sepsis hospitalized in the intensive care unit, were enrolled in this study. The observational endpoint was 28-day mortality. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was performed to determine the potential prognostic factors for 28-day mortality in these septic patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate and compare the prognostic factors for 28-day mortality. Results: Of 300 participants, 147 died, corresponding to a 28-day mortality of 49% (147/300). Baseline Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II) score (hazard ratio (HR) 1.18 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.07-1.30); P < 0.001), baseline lactic acid level (HR 1.27 (95% CI 1.08-1.50); P = 0.005), the presence of septic shock (HR 21.44 (95% CI 2.51-182.76); P = 0.005), and baseline AFR (HR 0.70 (95% CI 0.62-0.80); P < 0.001) were independent prognostic factors for 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis according to multivariate Cox analysis. Baseline AFR was an effective predictor of 28-day mortality, with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.700, and a specificity and sensitivity of 90.8% and 42.1%, respectively. A low baseline AFR level was associated with increased 28-day sepsis-related mortality. The quadruple index, which included the APACHE II score, lactic acid, septic shock, and AFR, showed a more accurate predictive value for septic patients than the APACHE II score, lactic acid, septic shock, and AFR alone, with an AUC of 0.922, and specificity and sensitivity of 86.9% and 83.6%, respectively. Moreover, the triple index, which included the APACHE II score, lactic acid, and septic shock, showed a significantly lower prognostic value for 28-day mortality compared with the ROC curve of the quadruple index and triple index, with an AUC of 0.877 and specificity and sensitivity of 77.8% and 82.3%, respectively. Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrate that AFR is an independent protective factor for predicting 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis due to various infection sites. AFR combined with the APACHE II score, lactic acid, and septic shock showed a higher prognostic value for sepsis prognosis.

Background: Ring enhancement on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an important characteristic of GBM. Though patients suffering from glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) with BRAF mutation (MUT BRAF) in V600E benefit from BRAF-targeted inhibitors, the relationship between ring enhancement and MUT BRAF remains elusive. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between BRAF mutation status and the appearance of ring enhancement so as to guide preoperative targeted therapy for MUT BRAF GBM. Methods: Patient's population, clinical data and characteristic ring enhancement appearances on MRI were compared between GBM with MUT BRAF and GBM with WT BRAF. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the differential diagnostic significance. A nomogram was developed to predict the mutation status of BRAF. Moreover, all the variables were re-analyzed between epithelioid GBM (E-GBM) with or without MUT BRAF. Results: Compared to GBM with WT BRAF, GBM with MUT BRAF had specific ring enhancement appearances with multiple rings, multiple located lobes, regular shape of ring, uniform thickness of ring and smaller diameter of ring. Area under the curve (AUC) of all the variables' combination was 0.929. The nomogram was developed and validated. The re-analyzed results between E-GBM with or without MUT BRAF were similar to these above. AUC of the combination of quantity of ring, quantity of located lobe and shape of ring was 0.962. Conclusion: The characteristic ring enhancement appearances of GBM may play an important role in predicting BRAF mutation status preoperatively, especially in E-GBM. Further study with larger cases may provide more evidences to guide the pretreatment of targeted medicine for GBM patients with MUT BRAF in future.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease is a common neurodegenerative disease, with depression being a common non-motor symptom. Bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation is an effective method for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. Thus, this study aimed to establish a nomogram of the possibility of achieving a better depression improvement rate after subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation in patients with Parkinson's disease. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 103 patients with Parkinson's disease who underwent subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation and were followed up for the improvement of their Hamilton Depression scale scores 1 year postoperatively. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to select factors affecting the improvement rate of depression. A nomogram was then developed to predict the possibility of achieving better depression improvement. Furthermore, the discrimination and fitting performance was evaluated using a calibration diagram, receiver operating characteristics, and decision curve analysis. RESULTS: The mean and median improvement rates of Hamilton Depression scores were 13.1 and 33.3%, respectively. Among the 103 patients, 70.8% had an improved depression, 23.3% had a worsened depression, and 5.8% remained unchanged. Logistic multivariate regression analysis showed that age, preoperative Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire, Hamilton Anxiety, and Hamilton Depression scores were independent factors for the possibility of achieving a better depression improvement rate. Based on these results, a nomogram model was developed. The nomogram had a C-index of 0.78 (95% confidence interval: 0.69-0.87) and an area under the receiver operating characteristics of 0.78 (95% confidence interval: 0.69-0.87). The calibration plot and decision curve analysis further demonstrated goodness-of-fit between the nomogram predictions and actual observations. CONCLUSION: We developed a nomogram to predict the possibility of achieving good depression improvement 1 year after subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation in patients with Parkinson's disease, which showed a certain value in judging the expected depression improvement of these patients.

PURPOSE: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease, for which cognitive impairment is a non-motor symptom (NMS). Bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) is an effective treatment for PD. This study established a nomogram to predict cognitive improvement rate after STN-DBS in PD patients. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 103 PD patients who underwent STN-DBS. Patients were followed up to measure improvement in MoCA scores one year after surgery. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors affecting improvement in cognitive status. A nomogram was developed to predict this factor. The discrimination and fitting performance were evaluated by receiver operating characteristics (ROC) analysis, calibration diagram, and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS: Among 103 patients, the mean improvement rate of the MoCA score was 37.3% and the median improvement rate was 27.3%, of which 64% improved cognition, 27% worsened cognition, and 8.7% remained unchanged. Logistic multivariate regression analysis showed that years of education, UPDRSIII drug use, MoCA Preop, and MMSE Preop scores were independent factors affecting the cognitive improvement rate. A nomogram model was subsequently developed. The C-index of the nomogram was 0.98 (95%CI, 0.97-1.00), and the area under the ROC was 0.98 (95%CI 0.97-1.00). The calibration plot and DCA demonstrated the goodness-of-fit between nomogram predictions and actual observations. CONCLUSION: Our nomogram could effectively predict the possibility of achieving good cognitive improvement one year after STN-DBS in patients with PD. This model has value in judging the expected cognitive improvement of patients with PD undergoing STN-DBS.

BACKGROUND: Uric acid is a natural antioxidant, and low levels of uric acid have been reported to be a potential risk factor in the development of nervous system diseases. Herein, we investigated whether uric acid levels play a role in trigeminal neuralgia (TN). METHODS: We conducted a cohort study to compare the serum uric acid levels of patients with TN and healthy controls. We also analyzed the impact of uric acid levels on the risk of TN and symptom severity. RESULTS: In comparison to control participants (n = 133), uric acid levels were remarkably decreased in patients with TN (n = 181). Uric acid (OR = 0.989; 95% CI 0.986-0.993; P < 0.001) was also determined as a protective factor against TN based on multivariate logistic regression models. Furthermore, nonlinear relationships between serum uric acid levels and TN incidence rate and between that and the Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) grading were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Our study is the first to show a relationship between serum uric acid levels and TN. Specifically, low serum uric acid levels were associated with an increased risk of TN and more severe clinical symptoms. We expect that these findings will provide new insights into the prevention and treatment of TN.

Objective: Programming plays an important role in the outcome of deep brain stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's disease (PD). This study introduced a new application for functional zonal image reconstruction in programming. Methods: Follow-up outcomes were retrospectively compared, including first programming time, number of discomfort episodes during programming, and total number of programming sessions between patients who underwent image-reconstruction-guided programming and those who underwent conventional programming. Data from 142 PD patients who underwent subthalamic nucleus (STN)-DBS between January 2017 and June 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 75 conventional programs and 67 image reconstruction-guided programs. Results: At 1-year follow-up, there was no significant difference in the rate of stimulus improvement or superposition improvement between the two groups. However, patients who underwent image reconstruction-guided programming were significantly better at the first programming time, number of discomfort episodes during programming, and total number of programming sessions than those who underwent conventional programming. Conclusion: Imaging-guided programming of directional DBS leads was possible and led to reduced programming time and reduced patient side effects compared with conventional programming.
