Introduction: ChatGPT can serve as an adjunct informational tool for ophthalmologists and their patients. However, the reliability and readability of its responses to myopia-related queries in the Chinese language remain underexplored. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the ability of ChatGPT to address frequently asked questions (FAQs) about myopia by parents and caregivers. Method: Myopia-related FAQs were input three times into fresh ChatGPT sessions, and the responses were evaluated by 10 ophthalmologists using a Likert scale for appropriateness, usability, and clarity. The Chinese Readability Index Explorer (CRIE) was used to evaluate the readability of each response. Inter-rater reliability among the reviewers was examined using Cohen's kappa coefficient, and Spearman's rank correlation analysis and one-way analysis of variance were used to investigate the relationship between CRIE scores and each criterion. Results: Forty-five percent of the responses of ChatGPT in Chinese language were appropriate and usable and only 35% met all the set criteria. The CRIE scores for 20 ChatGPT responses ranged from 7.29 to 12.09, indicating that the readability level was equivalent to a middle-to-high school level. Responses about the treatment efficacy and side effects were deficient for all three criteria. Conclusions: The performance of ChatGPT in addressing pediatric myopia-related questions is currently suboptimal. As parents increasingly utilize digital resources to obtain health information, it has become crucial for eye care professionals to familiarize themselves with artificial intelligence-driven information on pediatric myopia.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Cecal intubation of colonoscopy relies on self-reporting. We developed an artificial intelligence-based cecum recognition system (AI-CRS) for post hoc verification of cecal intubation and explored its impact on adenoma metrics. METHODS: Quality metrics, including cecal intubation rate (CIR), adenoma detection rate (ADR), and other ADR-related metrics were compared both before (2015-2018) and after (2019-2022) the implementation of AI-CRS. RESULTS: While CIR did not change significantly after the implementation of AI-CRS, ADR and AADR significantly increased. While ADR significantly increased in all segments, the most significant increase in AADR was observed in the proximal colon. Implementation of AI-CRS was associated with a higher likelihood of detecting adenoma (aOR=1.35, 95%CI=1.26-1.45) and advanced adenoma (aOR=1.23, 95%CI=1.07-1.41), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Implementation of a post hoc verification of cecal intubation using an AI-CRS significantly improved various adenoma metrics in screening colonoscopy.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Early-onset colorectal cancer (CRC) is increasing globally. While the United States have lowered the age of initiation of screening to 45, other countries still start screening at age 50. In Taiwan, the incidence of CRC has declined in 55-74 year-olds after the initiation of screening, but still increased in those 50-54, potentially due to rising precancerous lesion incidence in 40-49 year-olds. This study aimed to explore the chronological trend of the prevalence of colorectal advanced neoplasms (AN) in the screening population aged 40-54. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed a screening colonoscopy cohort for prevalence of AN in average-risk subjects aged 40-54 from 2003 to 2019. Logistic regression was used to distinguish cohort effect from time-period effect on the prevalence of AN. RESULTS: In total, 27,805 subjects (52.1% male) men were enrolled. There were notable increases in prevalence of AN in all three age groups during the 17-year span, but these were more rapid in age 40-44 (0.99% to 3.22%) and 45-49 (2.50% to 4.19%). Age 50-54 had higher risk of AN [aOR=1.62(1.19-2.19)] in 2003-2008 but not in later periods [2009-2014: aOR=1.08(0.83-1.41)] and [2015-2019: aOR=0.76(0.56-1.03)] when compared with age 45-49. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of AN in age 40-54 increased in the Taiwanese population, with a later birth cohort having a higher prevalence of AN. However, the prevalence of AN in age 45-49 increased more remarkably and approximated that in age 50-54, which may justify earlier initiation of CRC screening at age 45.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of combining 0.05% cyclosporine A (CsA) with high-potency steroids for treating severe dry eye disease (DED). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective comparative case series included 93 patients treated with 0.05% CsA for severe DED. Among them, we included data from 54 eyes of 27 patients who received high-potency steroids in the study group and from 132 eyes of 66 patients who did not receive high-potency steroids in the control group. Data on demographic characteristics, comorbidities, medications and intraocular pressure (IOP) were recorded. The primary outcomes were changes in symptom and sign scores. The ocular surface disease index was used as the symptom score, whereas tear break-up time, Schirmer I test without anaesthesia, ocular surface staining scores and presence of meibomian gland dysfunction were considered as sign scores. Repeated one-way ANOVA and generalized linear mixed models were used to evaluate differences. RESULTS: In the control group, symptom scores decreased from 1 to 2 months and from 2 to 3 months after treatment (p = .002 and .049). In the high-potency steroid group, symptom scores improved during these intervals (p = .003 and .005). The sign score in the control group remained unchanged (all p > .05), while the high-potency steroid group exhibited progressive improvement in sign scores (all p < .05). The high-potency steroid group had more favourable symptom (p = .035) and sign (p < .001) scores than did the control group. However, multiple systemic diseases were associated with poor symptom (p = .025) and sign (p = .014) scores. The risks for glaucoma and cataract formation were similar between the two groups (all p > .05). CONCLUSIONS: Dual therapy combining high-potency steroids and 0.05% CsA significantly improved the signs and symptoms of severe DED compared with 0.05% CsA monotherapy, without severe complications.


High-potency steroid plus CsA is more effective than CsA monotherapy in alleviating the signs and symptoms of DED.Dual therapy has acceptable safety particularly in terms of IOP and cataract risk.Dual therapy is a viable option for patients with severe DED without contraindications.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the relationships among myopia treatment, decision regret, shared decision-making, and vision-related quality of life among parents of 6-12-year-old children with myopia. METHODS: An online Google Forms questionnaire was developed using a cross-sectional design and distributed between January 16 and August 22, 2023. Parents of 6-12-year-old children with myopia were recruited through school nurses working in Taiwan. The children's and parents' demographic data were collected. Study instruments included the Decisional Regret Scale, Shared Decision-Making, and Vision-Related Quality of Life questionnaires. Multivariable linear regression analysis was used to identify factors influencing vision-related quality of life. RESULTS: Of 350 parents contacted, 314 questionnaires were analyzed. Among the respondents, 77.39 % (n = 243) were mothers, and most were aged >40 years. The mean age of children at myopia diagnosis was 7.12 ± 1.24 years; 46.50 % had < - 1.0 diopters of refractive error. Atropine eye drops were the primary treatment; 17.71 % of children were prescribed orthokeratology for myopia control. Parents reported low levels of decision regret and moderate levels of shared decision-making and vision-related quality of life. Children's age, use of orthokeratology lenses, decision regret, and shared decision-making significantly influenced the vision-related quality of life reported by the parents, accounting for 22.5 % of the variance. CONCLUSION: The study's findings emphasize the importance of addressing decision regret and promoting shared decision-making in myopia treatment. Eye care professionals should discuss treatment options thoroughly before making decisions. Through shared decision-making, parents can make informed choices about treatments based on a comprehensive understanding of the benefits and drawbacks, ultimately benefitting children's vision health.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are present in blood at much lower concentrations (5-6 orders of magnitude) compared to lipoprotein particles (LP). Because LP and EV overlap in size and density, isolating high-purity EVs is a significant challenge. While the current two-step sequential EV isolation process using size-expression chromatography (SEC) followed by a density gradient (DG) achieves high purity, the time-consuming ultracentrifugation (UC) step in DG hinders workflow efficiency. This paper introduces an optimized magnetic bead reagent, LipoMin, functionalized with glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), as a rapid alternative for LP removal during the second-step process in about 10 minutes. We evaluated LipoMin's efficacy on two sample types: (a) EV fractions isolated by size exclusion chromatography (SEC + LipoMin) and (b) the pellet obtained from ultracentrifugation (UC + LipoMin). The workflow is remarkably simple, involving a 10 min incubation with LipoMin followed by magnetic separation of the LP-depleted EV-containing supernatant. Results from enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) revealed that LipoMin removes 98.2% ApoB from SEC EV fractions, comparable to the LP removal ability of DG in the SEC + DG two-step process. Importantly, the EV yield (CD81 ELISA) remained at 93.0% and Western blot analysis confirmed that key EV markers, flotillin and CD81, were not compromised. Recombinant EV (rEV), an EV reference standard, was spiked into SEC EV fractions and recovered 89% of CD81 protein. For UC + LipoMin, ApoA1 decreased by 76.5% while retaining 90.7% of CD81. Notably, both colorectal cancer (CRC) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) samples processed by SEC + LipoMin and UC + LipoMin displayed clear expression of relevant EV and clinical markers. With a 10 min workflow (resulting in a 96% time saving compared to the traditional method), the LipoMin reagent offers a rapid and efficient alternative to DG for LP depletion, paving the way for a streamlined SEC + LipoMin two-step EV isolation process.

AIM: This study explores the influencing factors of attitudes and behaviors toward use of ChatGPT based on the Technology Acceptance Model among registered nurses in Taiwan. BACKGROUND: The complexity of medical services and nursing shortages increases workloads. ChatGPT swiftly answers medical questions, provides clinical guidelines, and assists with patient information management, thereby improving nursing efficiency. INTRODUCTION: To facilitate the development of effective ChatGPT training programs, it is essential to examine registered nurses' attitudes toward and utilization of ChatGPT across diverse workplace settings. METHODS: An anonymous online survey was used to collect data from over 1000 registered nurses recruited through social media platforms between November 2023 and January 2024. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analyses were conducted for data analysis. RESULTS: Among respondents, some were unfamiliar with ChatGPT, while others had used it before, with higher usage among males, higher-educated individuals, experienced nurses, and supervisors. Gender and work settings influenced perceived risks, and those familiar with ChatGPT recognized its social impact. Perceived risk and usefulness significantly influenced its adoption. DISCUSSION: Nurse attitudes to ChatGPT vary based on gender, education, experience, and role. Positive perceptions emphasize its usefulness, while risk concerns affect adoption. The insignificant role of perceived ease of use highlights ChatGPT's user-friendly nature. CONCLUSION: Over half of the surveyed nurses had used or were familiar with ChatGPT and showed positive attitudes toward its use. Establishing rigorous guidelines to enhance their interaction with ChatGPT is crucial for future training. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND HEALTH POLICY: Nurse managers should understand registered nurses' attitudes toward ChatGPT and integrate it into in-service education with tailored support and training, including appropriate prompt formulation and advanced decision-making, to prevent misuse.

Cancer immunotherapy has been regarded as a promising strategy for cancer therapy by blocking immune checkpoints and evoking immunity to fight cancer, but its efficacy seems to be heterogeneous among patients. Manipulating the gut microbiota is a potential strategy for enhancing the efficacy of immunotherapy. Here, we report that MS-20, also known as "Symbiota®", a postbiotic that comprises abundant microbial metabolites generated from a soybean-based medium fermented with multiple strains of probiotics and yeast, inhibited colon and lung cancer growth in combination with an anti-programmed cell death 1 (PD1) antibody in xenograft mouse models. Mechanistically, MS-20 remodeled the immunological tumor microenvironment by increasing effector CD8+ T cells and downregulating PD1 expression, which were mediated by the gut microbiota. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) from mice receiving MS-20 treatment to recipient mice increased CD8+ T-cell infiltration into the tumor microenvironment and significantly improved antitumor activity when combined with anti-PD1 therapy. Notably, the abundance of Ruminococcus bromii, which increased following MS-20 treatment, was positively associated with a reduced tumor burden and CD8+ T-cell infiltration in vivo. Furthermore, an ex vivo study revealed that MS-20 could alter the composition of the microbiota in cancer patients, resulting in distinct metabolic pathways associated with favorable responses to immunotherapy. Overall, MS-20 could act as a promising adjuvant agent for enhancing the efficacy of immune checkpoint-mediated antitumor therapy.

BACKGROUND: As ChatGPT becomes a primary information source for college students, its performance in providing dietary advice is under scrutiny. This study assessed ChatGPT's performance in providing nutritional guidance to college students. METHODS: ChatGPT's performance on dietary advice was evaluated by 30 experienced dietitians and assessed using an objective nutrition literacy (NL) test. The dietitians were recruited to assess the quality of ChatGPT's dietary advice, including its NL achievement and response quality. RESULTS: The results indicate that ChatGPT's performance varies across scenarios and is suboptimal for achieving NL with full achievement rates from 7.50% to 37.56%. While the responses excelled in readability, they lacked understandability, practicality, and completeness. In the NL test, ChatGPT showed an 84.38% accuracy rate, surpassing the NL level of Taiwanese college students. The top concern among the dietitians, cited 52 times in 242 feedback entries, was that the "response information lacks thoroughness or rigor, leading to misunderstandings or misuse". Despite the potential of ChatGPT as a supplementary educational tool, significant gaps must be addressed, especially in detailed dietary inquiries. CONCLUSION: This study highlights the need for improved AI educational approaches and suggests the potential for developing ChatGPT teaching guides or usage instructions to train college students and support dietitians.

The continuously refined genome assembly of the Chinese cabbage accession Chiifu is widely recognized as the reference for Brassica rapa. However, the high self-incompatibility of Chiifu limits its broader utilization. In this study, we report the development of self-compatible Chiifu lines through a meticulous marker-assisted selection (MAS) strategy, involving the substitution of the Chiifu allele of MLPK (M-locus protein kinase) with that from the self-compatible Yellow Sarson (YS). A YS-based marker (SC-MLPK) was employed to screen 841 B. rapa accessions, confirming that all eight accessions with the mlpk/mlpk (mm) genotype exhibited self-compatibility. Additionally, we designed 131 High-Resolution Melting (HRM) markers evenly distributed across the B. rapa genome as genomic background selection (GBS) markers to facilitate the introgression of self-compatibility from YS into Chiifu along with SC-MLPK. Genome background screening revealed that the BC3S1 population had a proportion of the recurrent parent genome (PR) ranging from 93.9% to 98.5%. From this population, we identified self-compatible individuals exhibiting a high number of pollen tubes penetrating stigmas (NPT) (>25) and a maximum compatibility index (CI) value of 7.5. Furthermore, we selected two individuals demonstrating significant similarity to Chiifu in both genetic background and morphological appearance, alongside self-compatibility. These selected individuals were self-pollinated to generate two novel lines designated as SC-Chiifu Lines. The development of these self-compatible Chiifu lines, together with the SC-MLPK marker and the set of HRM markers, represents valuable tools for B. rapa genetics and breeding.

INTRODUCTION: Concerns regarding bleeding remain in cold snare polypectomy (CSP) for small pedunculated (0-Ip) polyps. The aim of this study was to compare the risk of CSP and hot snare polypectomy (HSP) for such lesions. METHODS: Data on 0-Ip colorectal polyps ≤10 mm were extracted from a large, pragmatic, randomized trial. Immediate postpolypectomy bleeding (IPPB), defined as the perioperative use of a clip for bleeding, was evaluated through polyp-level analysis. Delayed postpolypectomy bleeding (DPPB), defined as bleeding occurring within 2 weeks postoperatively, was assessed at the patient-level among patients whose polyps were all ≤10 mm, including at least one 0-Ip polyp. RESULTS: A total of 647 0-Ip polyps (CSP: 306; HSP: 341) were included for IPPB analysis and 386 patients (CSP: 192; HSP: 194) for DPPB analysis. CSP was associated with a higher incidence of IPPB (10.8% vs 3.2%, P < 0.001) but no adverse clinical events. The procedure time of all polypectomies was shorter for CSP than for HSP (123.0 ± 117.8 vs 166.0 ± 237.7 seconds, P = 0.003), while the procedure time of polypectomies with IPPB were similar (249.8 ± 140.2 vs 227.4 ± 125.9 seconds, P = 0.64). DPPB was observed in 3 patients (1.5%) in the HSP group, including one patient (0.5%) with severe bleeding, but not in the CSP group. DISCUSSION: Despite CSP being associated with more IPPB events, it could be timely treated without adverse outcomes. Notably, no delayed bleeding occurred in the CSP group. Our findings support the use of CSP for 0-Ip polyps ≤ 10 mm.

The use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) is on the rise among young adults, with higher public acceptance than traditional tobacco. A study in Taiwan employed concept mapping to explore risk and benefit perceptions of e-cigarette use among college students. The study involved 100 college students from 11 Taiwanese universities, with 50 being e-cigarette users and 50 non-users. Data collection and analysis were done with the GroupWisdom™ platform. Participants engaged in brainstorming, rating and sorting their perceptions, which were analyzed using multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analyses. The participants' mean age was 19.24 years, and 55% were male. This process resulted in the identification of 10 clusters encompassing 64 statements, with 3 clusters focused on risk perceptions, 6 on benefit perceptions, and 1 dealing with e-cigarette regulations. Notably, risk perceptions were rated higher than benefit perceptions. Non-users held significantly higher risk perceptions and lower benefit perceptions across the nine clusters related to e-cigarette use. Concept mapping proved to be an effective tool for understanding college students' perceptions. These findings can assist health educators in comprehending college students' viewpoints on e-cigarette use and in developing targeted interventions. Additionally, exploring benefit perceptions may enhance students' critical thinking skills regarding e-cigarette advertising.

AIM: To investigate the continuing education requirements and factors influencing school nurses' needs in relation to medication administration on school campuses. DESIGN: A total of 391 school nurses working in K-12 schools in Taiwan were invited to participate in an online questionnaire survey. METHODS: This cross-sectional study employed a probability proportionate to size technique along with a random sampling method. Data were collected from February to April 2023. RESULTS: School nurses reported a significant demand for continuing education and perceived moderate levels of stress and government support related to medication administration. Among the various dimensions, the highest demand was observed for 'definition of campus medication errors' and 'regulations for campus medical orders.' Moreover, the 'identifying drug interactions' and 'adverse drug effects and referrals' dimensions were identified as the most stressful aspects. Notably, perceived stress emerged as the sole predictive factor for continuing education demand, accounting for 16.1% of the variance. CONCLUSIONS: The study found that there was a significant demand for and moderate stress related to continuing education among school nurses. Therefore, it is crucial for the government and school nursing organizations to develop targeted programs focusing on medication administration. These initiatives should be designed to enhance nurses' capabilities and reduce their stress, thereby ensuring safe medication administration on campuses. IMPACT: Continuing education enables school nurses to acquire up-to-date knowledge and improve the workflow in their practice. This study highlights a strong need for education in medication administration with a focus on 'campus medication error definitions' and 'campus medical order regulations.' The government and relevant school nursing organizations should prioritize the development and implementation of continuing education programs to decrease the school nurses' stress related to medication administration. This study aimed to examine the relationship between social media use, e-health literacy, and the risk and benefit perceptions of e-cigarettes among college students in Taiwan. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted with 1,571 Taiwanese college students, which included four questionnaires to assess participants' perceptions, social media use behavior, e-health literacy, and sociodemographic factors. The data were presented in terms of means, standard deviations, and percentages. Stepwise regression was used to identify factors associated with the participants' perceptions. The study found that 75.01% of the participants were exposed to e-cigarette information on social media, with 31.26% actively searching for it and 15.95% sharing it. Participants had a high e-cigarette risk perception, indicating low benefit perception, but acceptable e-health literacy. Factors such as current e-cigarette and tobacco use, e-health literacy, academic achievement, and sex significantly predicted e-cigarette risk perception, while sharing e-cigarette related information, sex, age, academic achievement, and current e-cigarette use significantly predicted its benefit perception. Thus, implementing effective e-health literacy programs to enhance college students' e-cigarette risk perception is recommended along with a proactive approach to tackle e-cigarette advertising messages on social media, minimizing their sharing behavior to decrease their perception of associated benefits.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and evaluate a scenario-based nutrition literacy (NL) online programme for Taiwanese college students. DESIGN: A randomised pilot trial design was used in this study. SETTING: The study was conducted at a university in Taiwan. The intervention consisted of a five-unit web-based NL programme including videos of real-life scenario-based stories, situational analysis teaching and after-unit quizzes. Theme-related website information and smartphone apps (both iOS and Android systems) were offered for reference in every unit. The NL measure consisted of a self-rated scale, a scenario-based test and a healthy eating behaviour survey. Paired sample t-tests and ANCOVA were performed to test the effects on NL and healthy eating behaviour. PARTICIPANTS: Participants were ninety-eight students, with a retention rate of 98 %. The ratio of men to women was 0·2:1. Most students were freshmen (48 %). RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the experimental group showed significant post-intervention improvements in the NL and healthy eating behaviours after controlling for pretest scores. CONCLUSIONS: This pilot study offers preliminary evidence of the potential positive effects of implementing a scenario-based NL online programme for college students. It offers a possibly novel strategy to enhance health-promoting behaviours in Taiwanese universities. Further research with larger sample sizes and more rigorous designs is warranted to confirm and build upon these initial findings.

KEY MESSAGE: Lineage-specific evolution of RCO was described in Brassicaceae. BjRCO.1 and BjRCO.2 within the complex locus regulated highly lobed-leaf formation in Brassica juncea. RCO regulates the formation of lobed leaves in Brassicaceae species. RCO originated from the duplication of LMI1-type sequences and evolved through gene duplication and loss within the Brassicaceae. However, the evolutionary process and diversification of RCO in different lineages of Brassicaceae remain unclear. Although the RCO locus in B. juncea has been associated with lobed-leaf formation, its complexity has remained largely unknown. This study involved the identification of 55 LMI1-like genes in 16 species of Brassicaceae through syntenic analysis. We classified these LMI1-like genes into two types, namely LMI1-type and RCO-type, based on their phylogenetic relationship. Additionally, we proposed two independent lineage-specific evolution routes for RCO following the divergence of Aethionema. Our findings revealed that the LMI1-like loci responsible for lobed-leaf formation in Brassica species are located on the LF subgenomes. For B. juncea (T84-66V2), we discovered that the complex locus underwent duplication through segments of nucleic acid sequence containing Exostosin-LMI1-RCO (E-R-L), resulting in the tandem presence of two RCO-type and two LMI1-type genes on chromosome A10. As additional evidence, we successfully mapped the complex locus responsible for highly lobed-leaf formation to chromosome A10 using a B. juncea F2 population, which corroborated the results of our evolutionary analysis. Furthermore, through transcriptome analysis, we clarified that BjRCO.1 and BjRCO.2 within the complex locus are functional genes involved in the regulation of highly lobed-leaf formation. The findings of this study offer valuable insights into the regulation of leaf morphology for the breeding of Brassica crops.

Implementation of proton-exchange membrane water electrolyzers for large-scale sustainable hydrogen production requires the replacement of scarce noble-metal anode electrocatalysts with low-cost alternatives. However, such earth-abundant materials often exhibit inadequate stability and/or catalytic activity at low pH, especially at high rates of the anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Here, the authors explore the influence of a dielectric nanoscale-thin oxide layer, namely Al2 O3 , SiO2 , TiO2 , SnO2 , and HfO2 , prepared by atomic layer deposition, on the stability and catalytic activity of low-cost and active but insufficiently stable Co3 O4 anodes. It is demonstrated that the ALD layers improve both the stability and activity of Co3 O4 following the order of HfO2 > SnO2 > TiO2 > Al2 O3 , SiO2 . An optimal HfO2 layer thickness of 12 nm enhances the Co3 O4 anode durability by more than threefold, achieving over 42 h of continuous electrolysis at 10 mA cm-2 in 1 m H2 SO4 electrolyte. Density functional theory is used to investigate the superior performance of HfO2 , revealing a major role of the HfO2 |Co3 O4 interlayer forces in the stabilization mechanism. These insights offer a potential strategy to engineer earth-abundant materials for low-pH OER catalysts with improved performance from earth-abundant materials for efficient hydrogen production.

We investigated school nurses' experiences, perceived government support, school nurses' acceptance of responsibility for medication administration, perceived stress, and perceived competence of medication administration and analyzed factors associated with perceived competence. In this cross-sectional study, from February to April 2023, we conducted an online survey of 269 school nurses serving at K-12 schools in Taiwan. The results revealed that although 71% of the participants had prior experience with medication administration, they reported low competence and high stress in areas such as drug interactions, adverse drug effects, and referrals. The school nurses' disagreement with responsibilities for medication administration emerged as the only factor to be significantly associated with perceived medication administration competence, accounting for 22.8% of the variance. We recommend implementing continuing training programs to provide school nurses with up-to-date medication information. Additionally, the development of practice guidelines is suggested as a means of enhancing nurses' competence and reducing their stress levels for the administration of medications.

Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic profoundly impacts lifestyle habits and myopia control in children worldwide. This study investigated the changes in eyecare habits, orthokeratology compliance, axial length, and time interval of follow-up visits during home confinement in the COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan. Methods: This investigation was part of a prospective study undertaken to evaluate the effectiveness of a mobile application. A semi-structured telephone interview was conducted with parents retrospectively to document eyecare habits and myopia control during the COVID-19 home confinement. Results: Thirty-three children with myopia participated in the follow-up of orthokeratology lenses for 2 years. The children's time viewing digital devices such as tablets and televisions significantly increased during the COVID-19 pandemic (P < 0.05). An analysis using McNemar's test found that the proportional growth of axial length <0.2 mm in 2021 was significantly higher than that in 2020 (77.42% vs. 58.06%, P < 0.05). In the multivariate logistic regression analysis, onset <10 years of age (P = 0.001) and parents with high myopia (P < 0.001) were independent risk factors for the growth of axial length ≥0.2 mm in 2021. Conclusion: The suspension of face-to-face classes and after-school tutorials benefited myopic axial elongation in children during COVID-19 home confinement. The use of digital devices and staying indoors may not be the exclusive reasons for myopia progression. Educating parents about the influence of extra learning classes after school on myopia progression would be prudent.

Cancer cachexia is a multifactorial disorder characterized by weight loss and muscle wasting, and there are currently no FDA-approved medications. In the present study, upregulation of six cytokines was observed in serum samples from patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) and in mouse models. A negative correlation between the levels of the six cytokines and body mass index in CRC patients was seen. Gene Ontology analysis revealed that these cytokines were involved in regulating T cell proliferation. The infiltration of CD8+ T cells was found to be associated with muscle atrophy in mice with CRC. Adoptive transfer of CD8+ T cells isolated from CRC mice resulted in muscle wasting in recipients. The Genotype-Tissue Expression database showed that negative correlations between the expression of cachexia markers and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2) in human skeletal muscle tissues. Pharmacological treatment with Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), a selective CB2 agonist or overexpression of CB2 attenuated CRC-associated muscle atrophy. In contrast, knockout of CB2 with a CRISPR/Cas9-based strategy or depletion of CD8+ T cells in CRC mice abolished the Δ9-THC-mediated effects. This study demonstrates that cannabinoids ameliorate CD8+ T cell infiltration in CRC-associated skeletal muscle atrophy via a CB2-mediated pathway. Serum levels of the six-cytokine signature might serve as a potential biomarker to detect the therapeutic effects of cannabinoids in CRC-associated cachexia.
