RESUMO

Designing highly conducting metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is currently a subject of great interest for their potential applications in diverse areas encompassing energy storage and generation. Herein, a strategic design in which a metal-sulfur plane is integrated within a MOF to achieve high electrical conductivity, is successfully demonstrated. The MOF {[Cu2(6-Hmna)(6-mn)]·NH4}n (1, 6-Hmna = 6-mercaptonicotinic acid, 6-mn = 6-mercaptonicotinate), consisting of a two dimensional (-Cu-S-)n plane, is synthesized from the reaction of Cu(NO3)2, and 6,6'-dithiodinicotinic acid via the in situ cleavage of an S-S bond under hydrothermal conditions. A single crystal of the MOF is found to have a low activation energy (6 meV), small bandgap (1.34 eV) and a highest electrical conductivity (10.96 S cm-1) among MOFs for single crystal measurements. This approach provides an ideal roadmap for producing highly conductive MOFs with great potential for applications in batteries, thermoelectric, supercapacitors and related areas.

RESUMO

In this study, we developed an automated microfluidic DNA microarray (AMDM) platform for point mutation detection of genetic variants in inherited arrhythmic diseases. The platform allows for automated and programmable reagent sequencing under precise conditions of hybridization flow and temperature control. It is composed of a commercial microfluidic control system, a microfluidic microarray device, and a temperature control unit. The automated and rapid hybridization process can be performed in the AMDM platform using Cy3 labeled oligonucleotide exons of SCN5A genetic DNA, which produces proteins associated with sodium channels abundant in the heart (cardiac) muscle cells. We then introduce a graphene oxide (GO)-assisted DNA microarray hybridization protocol to enable point mutation detection. In this protocol, a GO solution is added after the staining step to quench dyes bound to single-stranded DNA or non-perfectly matched DNA, which can improve point mutation specificity. As proof-of-concept we extracted the wild-type and mutant of exon 12 and exon 17 of SCN5A genetic DNA from patients with long QT syndrome or Brugada syndrome by touchdown PCR and performed a successful point mutation discrimination in the AMDM platform. Overall, the AMDM platform can greatly reduce laborious and time-consuming hybridization steps and prevent potential contamination. Furthermore, by introducing the reciprocating flow into the microchannel during the hybridization process, the total assay time can be reduced to 3 hours, which is 6 times faster than the conventional DNA microarray. Given the automatic assay operation, shorter assay time, and high point mutation discrimination, we believe that the AMDM platform has potential for low-cost, rapid and sensitive genetic testing in a simple and user-friendly manner, which may benefit gene screening in medical practice.

RESUMO

The photocurrent was performed in the Sb2SeTe2 topological insulator at a wavelength of 532 nm. It exhibits extremely high performance that the responsivity and the photoconductive gain reach 2293 AW-1 and 5344 at 1 V. This high photoresponse is orders of magnitude higher than most reported values in topological insulators and two-dimensional transitional metal dichalcogenides. This finding suggests that the Sb2SeTe2 nanoflake has great potential for future optoelectronic device applications.

RESUMO

In clinical evaluation, we used to evaluate the fall risk according to elderly falling experience or the balance assessment tool. Because of the tool limitation, sometimes we could not predict accurately. In this study, we first analyzed 15 healthy elderly (without falling experience) and 15 falling elderly (1~3 time falling experience) balance performance in previous research. After 1 year follow up, there was only 1 elderly fall down during this period. It seemed like that falling experience had a ceiling effect on the falling prediction. But we also found out that using single leg standing time could be more accurately to help predicting the fall risk, especially for the falling elderly who could not stand over 10 seconds by single leg, and with a significant correlation between the falling experience and single leg standing time (r = -0.474, p = 0.026). The results also showed that there was significant body sway just before they falling down, and the COP may be an important characteristic in the falling elderly group.
