RESUMO

Peripheral nerve injuries, caused by various reasons, often lead to severe sensory, motor, and autonomic dysfunction or permanent disability, posing a challenging problem in regenerative medicine. Autologous nerve transplantation has been the gold standard in traditional treatments but faces numerous limitations and risk factors, such as donor area denervation, increased surgical complications, and diameter or nerve bundle mismatches. The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a complex molecular network synthesized and released into the extracellular space by cells residing in tissues or organs. Its main components include collagen, proteoglycans/glycosaminoglycans, elastin, laminin, fibronectin, etc., providing structural and biochemical support to surrounding cells, crucial for cell survival and growth. Schwann cells, as the primary glial cells in the peripheral nervous system, play various important roles. Schwann cell transplantation is considered the gold standard in cell therapy for peripheral nerve injuries, making ECM derived from Schwann cells one of the most suitable biomaterials for peripheral nerve repair. To better understand the mechanisms of Schwann cells and the ECM in peripheral nerve regeneration and their optimal application, this review provides an overview of their roles in peripheral nerve regeneration.

RESUMO

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) is strongly linked to Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk, but its functions are not fully understood. Here, we found that TREM2 specifically attenuated the activation of classical complement cascade via high-affinity binding to its initiator C1q. In the human AD brains, the formation of TREM2-C1q complexes was detected, and the increased density of the complexes was associated with lower deposition of C3 but higher amounts of synaptic proteins. In mice expressing mutant human tau, Trem2 haploinsufficiency increased complement-mediated microglial engulfment of synapses and accelerated synaptic loss. Administration of a 41-amino-acid TREM2 peptide, which we identified to be responsible for TREM2 binding to C1q, rescued synaptic impairments in AD mouse models. We thus demonstrate a critical role for microglial TREM2 in restricting complement-mediated synaptic elimination during neurodegeneration, providing mechanistic insights into the protective roles of TREM2 against AD pathogenesis.

RESUMO

A novel controllable magnesium silicate nanotube (MSN) material derived from coal fly ash was successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal process for the first time, and the reaction conditions and mechanism of synthesizing MSN materials from magnesium oxide and sodium silicate extracted from the fly ash were studied. The optimal preparation conditions are temperature = 220 °C, pH = 13.5, and Mg: Si molar ratio = 3:2, and the tubular structure gradually appeared and showed controllable and regular growth with the increase of synthesis time. The mechanism revealed that with the gradual dissolution of brucite into the sodium silicate solution, the reaction product begins to crystallize and transform from an initial sheet-like structure to a tubular structure, and finally becomes a uniformly arranged nanotube. The formation process of MSN follows Pauling's fourth rule, Si-O tetrahedral coordination and Mg-OH octahedral coordination is further condensed to form a two-layer structure by the action of active oxygen, then the sheet is rolled into a tube under its structural stress. The growth of both outer tubular diameter and inner tubular diameter has good linear law and controllable, and the growth rate are 0.289 nm h-1and 0.071 nm h-1, respectively.

RESUMO

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) based on the SnO2 electron transport layer (ETL) have achieved remarkable photovoltaic efficiency. However, the commercial SnO2 ETLs show various shortcomings. The SnO2 precursor is prone to agglomeration, resulting in poor morphology with numerous interface defects. Additionally, the open circuit voltage (Voc ) would be constrained by the energy level mismatch between the SnO2 and the perovskite. And, few studies designed SnO2 -based ETLs to promote crystal growth of PbI2 , a crucial prerequisite for obtaining high-quality perovskite films via the two-step method. Herein, we proposed a novel bilayer SnO2 structure that combined the atomic layer deposition (ALD) and sol-gel solution to well address the aforementioned issues. Due to the unique conformal effect of ALD-SnO2 , it can effectively modulate the roughness of FTO substrate, enhance the quality of ETL, and induce the growth of PbI2 crystal phase to develop the crystallinity of perovskite layer. Furthermore, a created built-in field of the bilayer SnO2 can help to overcome the electron accumulation at the ETL/perovskite interface, leading to a higher Voc and fill factor. Consequently, the efficiency of PSCs with ionic liquid solvent increases from 22.09% to 23.86%, maintaining 85% initial efficiency in a 20% humidity N2 environment for 1300 h.

RESUMO

State-of-the-art high-performance perovskite solar cells are mainly based on formamidinium (FA)-dominated perovskites because of their narrow band gap and remarkable thermal resistance. However, photoactive α-FAPbI3 is prone to transit to the photoinactive phase, and pioneering phase stabilization strategies can induce undesirable band gap broadening or phase segregation, seriously restricting the efficiency and long-term stability of the resultant photovoltaics. Herein, a small molecule of ammonium acetate (NH4Ac) was introduced as an additive in a modified ripening method to fabricate component-pure α-FAPbI3. Owing to the strong interaction between NH4Ac and PbI2, FAI via Pb-O coordination, and N-H···N hydrogen bonding, vertically oriented perovskites with relaxed crystal strain were first generated, which were fully converted to α-FAPbI3 in a further ripening process. The NH4Ac was fully volatized after the perovskite formation, resulting in component-pure α-FAPbI3 with a band gap of 1.48 eV and remarkable stability under light illumination. Ultimately, a champion device efficiency of above 21% was obtained based on the component-pure α-FAPbI3 and over 95% of the initial efficiency can be maintained after 1000 h of aging.

RESUMO

The morphology of tissues in pathological images has been used routinely by pathologists to assess the degree of malignancy of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Automatic and accurate segmentation of tumor cells and their surrounding tissues is often a crucial step to obtain reliable morphological statistics. Nonetheless, it is still a challenge due to the great variation of appearance and morphology. In this paper, a selected multi-scale attention network (SMANet) is proposed to segment tumor cells, blood vessels, nerves, islets and ducts in pancreatic pathological images. The selected multi-scale attention module is proposed to enhance effective information, supplement useful information and suppress redundant information at different scales from the encoder and decoder. It includes selection unit (SU) module and multi-scale attention (MA) module. The selection unit module can effectively filter features. The multi-scale attention module enhances effective information through spatial attention and channel attention, and combines different level features to supplement useful information. This helps learn the information of different receptive fields to improve the segmentation of tumor cells, blood vessels and nerves. An original-feature fusion unit is also proposed to supplement the original image information to reduce the under-segmentation of small tissues such as islets and ducts. The proposed method outperforms state-of-the-arts deep learning algorithms on our PDAC pathological images and achieves competitive results on the GlaS challenge dataset. The mDice and mIoU have reached 0.769 and 0.665 in our PDAC dataset.

RESUMO

Perovskite decomposition arising from water permeation and heat induced crystal expansion is a major obstacle restricting the long-term durability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, a polymerizable methyl acrylate (MCE) was employed as dopants in the deposition of perovskite thin films. Owing to the in situ formed polymer network, the environment moisture can be retained on the perovskite surface as the formation of a thin layer of perovskite monohydrate to prevent their deep penetration and transverse spread, and the heat tolerance of the perovskite was also improved because of the anchor structure between Pb2+ and -C═O groups and the agglomeration effect of the polymerized MCE. Moreover, MCE can coordinate with Pb2+ ions and some of them were volatilized during crystallization, resulting in preferred crystal orientations and suppressed nonradiative recombination. As a result, an excellent efficiency up to 21% with improved stability of MAPbI3 PSC was achieved.
