OBJECTIVES: To analyze the literature on artificial intelligence in forensic research from 2012 to 2022 in the Web of Science Core Collection Database, to explore research hotspots and developmental trends. METHODS: A total of 736 articles on artificial intelligence in forensic medicine in the Web of Science Core Collection Database from 2012 to 2022 were visualized and analyzed through the literature measuring tool CiteSpace. The authors, institution, country (region), title, journal, keywords, cited references and other information of relevant literatures were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 736 articles published in 220 journals by 355 authors from 289 institutions in 69 countries (regions) were identified, with the number of articles published showing an increasing trend year by year. Among them, the United States had the highest number of publications and China ranked the second. Academy of Forensic Science had the highest number of publications among the institutions. Forensic Science International, Journal of Forensic Sciences, International Journal of Legal Medicine ranked high in publication and citation frequency. Through the analysis of keywords, it was found that the research hotspots of artificial intelligence in the forensic field mainly focused on the use of artificial intelligence technology for sex and age estimation, cause of death analysis, postmortem interval estimation, individual identification and so on. CONCLUSIONS: It is necessary to pay attention to international and institutional cooperation and to strengthen the cross-disciplinary research. Exploring the combination of advanced artificial intelligence technologies with forensic research will be a hotspot and direction for future research.

RESUMO

Forkhead box P3 (FOXP3) has been identified as a novel molecular marker in various types of cancer. The present study assessed the expression of FOXP3 in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and its potential as a clinical prognostic indicator, and developed a radiomics model based on enhanced computed tomography (CT) imaging. Data from 483 patients with HNSCC were downloaded from the Cancer Genome Atlas for FOXP3 prognostic analysis and enhanced CT images from 139 patients included in the Cancer Imaging Archives, which were subjected to the maximum relevance and minimum redundancy and recursive feature elimination algorithms for radiomics feature extraction and processing. Logistic regression was used to build a model for predicting FOXP3 expression. A prognostic scoring system for radiomics score (RS), FOXP3, and patient clinicopathological factors was established to predict patient survival. The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) and calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA) were used to evaluate model performance. Furthermore, the relationship between FOXP3 and the immune microenvironment, as well as the association between RS and immune checkpoint-related genes, was analyzed. Results of analysis revealed that patients with HNSCC and high FOXP3 mRNA expression exhibited better overall survival. Immune infiltration analysis revealed that FOXP3 had a positive correlation with CD4 + and CD8 + T cells and other immune cells. The 8 best radiomics features were selected to construct the radiomics model. In the FOXP3 expression prediction model, the AUC values were 0.707 and 0.702 for the training and validation sets, respectively. Additionally, the calibration curve and DCA demonstrated the positive diagnostic utility of the model. RS was correlated with immune checkpoint-related genes such as ICOS, CTLA4, and PDCD1. A predictive nomogram was established, the AUCs were 0.87, 0.787, and 0.801 at 12, 24, and 36 months, respectively, and DCA demonstrated the high clinical applicability of the nomogram. The enhanced CT radiomics model can predict expression of FOXP3 and prognosis in patients with HNSCC. As such, FOXP3 may be used as a novel prognostic marker to improve individualized clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions.

We present a novel, eco-friendly and one-pot approach for synthesizing unsymmetrical oxalamides with the aid of dichloroacetamide and amine/amides in the presence of CBr4 in a basic medium. The use of water as a potent supplement for the oxygen atom source and the detailed mechanism have been disclosed. Moreover, the protocol involves triple cleavage of CCl2Br and the formation of new C-O/C-N bonds, with the advantage of achieving selective bromination using CBr4 with good to excellent yield under mild conditions. The method also demonstrates promise for industrial use, as proven by its effective implementation in gram-scale synthesis conducted in a batch process, along with its utilization in a continuous-flow system.

The Si-based integrated circuits industry has been developing for more than half a century, by focusing on the scaling-down of transistor. However, the miniaturization of transistors will soon reach its physical limits, thereby requiring novel material and device technologies. Resistive memory is a promising candidate for in-memory computing and energy-efficient synaptic devices that can satisfy the computational demands of the future applications. However, poor cycle-to-cycle and device-to-device uniformities hinder its mass production. 2D materials, as a new type of semiconductor, is successfully employed in various micro/nanoelectronic devices and have the potential to drive future innovation in resistive memory technology. This review evaluates the potential of using the thinnest advanced materials, that is, monolayer 2D materials, for memristor or memtransistor applications, including resistive switching behavior and atomic mechanism, high-frequency device performances, and in-memory computing/neuromorphic computing applications. The scaling-down advantages of promising monolayer 2D materials including graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides, and hexagonal boron nitride are presented. Finally, the technical challenges of these atomic devices for practical applications are elaborately discussed. The study of monolayer-2D-material-based resistive memory is expected to play a positive role in the exploration of beyond-Si electronic technologies.

Objective: To explore the combined efficacy of modified Yangxin Anshen decoction and Western medicine treatment in elderly patients with schizophrenia and sleep disorders. Methods: A total of 144 elderly patients with schizophrenia and sleep disorders in Wuhan Wudong Hospital were enrolled as participants in this study from April 2021 to April 2022. The participants were randomly and equally divided into a control group (receiving conventional Western medicine treatment) and two study groups: study group 1 received modified Yangxin Anshen decoction, and study group 2 receive modified Yangxin Anshen decoction in addition to Western medicine treatment. TCM syndrome scores, sleep quality, polysomnography, serum levels of 5-HT, DA, and MT were compared between the two groups. Moreover, the efficacy and adverse reactions were recorded. Results: After four weeks of treatment, the efficacy of study group 2 was significantly better than that of the control group and Study Group 1 (P < .05). There was no statistically significant difference between the three groups in secondary and main symptoms before treatment (P >.05), while the secondary and main symptoms of study group 2 were significantly lower than those of the control group and study group 1 after four weeks of treatment (P < .05). Before treatment, no statistically significant difference was found in sleep quality score between the three groups (P > .05), whereas the index of the study group 2 was evidently lower than that of the control group and study group 1 after four weeks of treatment (P < .05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference in terms of total recording time, total sleep time, sleep onset latency, sleep efficiency, and four stages (N1, N2, N3, and REM) between the three groups (P > .05). After four weeks of treatment, although no statistically significant difference was shown in total recording time between the three groups (P > .05), the total sleep time, sleep onset latency, sleep efficiency, and four stages (N1, N2, N3, and REM) of the study group 2 were significantly improved than those of the control group and the study group 1 (P < .05). Before treatment, there was no significant difference in serum levels of 5-HT, DA, and MT between the three groups (P > .05), while the three indexes were evidently lower than the control group and the study group 1 after four weeks of treatment (P < .05). During the treatment process, 1 case of mild dry mouth occurred in the study group who did not receive special treatment, and the incidence of adverse reactions was 1/48. In the control group, there were 3 cases of dry mouth, 1 case of constipation, 1 case of diarrhea, 1 case of decreased appetite, and 1 case of nausea, whose symptoms were not specially treated, with the incidence of adverse reactions of 7/48. Hence the incidence of adverse reactions in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P < .05). Conclusion: Combined treatment with modified Yangxin Anshen decoction and Western medicine improved sleep quality in elderly patients with schizophrenia and sleep disorders, which is available for wide clinical application.

Background: Previous observational studies have reported inconsistent findings regarding the incidence of cancer in patients with schizophrenia compared to the general population. The causal relationship between schizophrenia and cancer remains unclear and requires further investigation. Objective: To investigate the causal relationship between schizophrenia and cancer. Methods: In this study, a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was conducted using publicly available genome-wide association studies to determine the causal relationship. The effect estimates were calculated using the random-effects inverse-variance-weighted method. Results: We determined a causal relationship between genetic predisposition to schizophrenia and cancer, with schizophrenia increasing lung cancer (odds ratio (OR) = 1.0007; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.0001-1.0013; p = 0.0192), thyroid cancer (OR = 1.5482; CI, 1.1112-2.1569; p =0.0098),colorectal cancer (OR = 1.0009; CI, 1.0001-1.0018; p = 0.0344), ovarian cancer (OR = 1.0770; CI, 1.0352-1.1203; p = 0.0002), breast cancer (OR = 1.0011; CI, 1.0001- 1.0022; p =0.0352) and reduced the risk of malignant neoplasm of the stomach (OR = 0.8502; CI, 0.7230-0.9998; p = 0.0496). Conclusions: This study conducted a two-sample MR analysis and discovered a positive causal relationship between schizophrenia and breast, ovarian, thyroid, lung, and colorectal cancers. On the other hand, an inverse causal relationship was found between schizophrenia and malignant neoplasm of the stomach.

BACKGROUND: Recently, the number of cases of Mycobacterium marinum infection has increased. Due to the nonspecific clinical manifestations and lack of standardized treatment guidelines, these infections are often misdiagnosed and are challenging to treat. METHODS: In this study, four patients had M. marinum skin infections accompanied by a high-risk exposure history and were diagnosed by bacterial culture and gene chip. Two patients were treated with antibiotic therapy alone, and the other two patients were treated with 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) combined with antibiotics. RESULTS: All four patients enrolled in the study were cured with 100 % efficacy. Two patients were cured after receiving two active antibiotics for 4 months. The other two patients, having considered the drug resistance and intolerance described above, were cured after receiving two active antibiotics for 1-1.5 months along with combination therapy with ALA-PDT. CONCLUSION: Combination therapy with ALA-PDT and antibiotics was chosen to shorten the duration of antibiotic treatment and reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions.

Minimizing the amount of metallic lithium (Li) to zero excess to achieve an anode-free configuration can help achieve safer, higher energy density, and more economical Li metal batteries. Nevertheless, removal of excess Li creates challenges for long-term cycling performance in Li metal batteries due to the lithiophobic copper foils as anodic current collectors. Here, we improve the long-term cycling performance of anode-free Li metal batteries by modifying the anode-free configuration. Specifically, a lithiophilic Au nanoparticle-anchored reduced graphene oxide (Au/rGO) film is used as an anodic modifier to reduce the Li nucleation overpotential and inhibit dendrite growth by forming a lithiophilic LixAu alloy and solid solution, which is convincingly evidenced by density functional theory calculations and experimentally. Meanwhile, the flexible rGO film can also act as a buffer layer to endure the volume expansion during repeated Li plating/stripping processes. In addition, the Au/rGO film promotes a homogeneous distribution of the electric field over the entire anodic surface, thus ensuring a uniform deposition of Li during the electrodeposition process, which is convincingly evidenced by finite element simulations. As expected, the Li||Au/rGO-Li half-cell shows a highly stable long-term cycling performance for at least 500 cycles at 0.5 mA cm-2 and 0.5 mA h cm-2. A Li2S-based anode-free full cell allows achieving a stable operation life of up to 200 cycles with a capacity retention of 63.3%. This work provides a simple and scalable fabrication method to achieve anode-free Li2S-based cells with high anodic interface stability and a long lifetime.

Growing evidence supports that Alzheimer's disease (AD) could be regarded as a metabolic disease, accompanying central and peripheral metabolic disturbance. Nowadays, exploring novel and potentially alternative hallmarks for AD is needed. Peripheral metabolites based on blood and gut may provide new biochemical insights about disease mechanisms. These metabolites can influence brain energy homeostasis, maintain gut mucosal integrity, and regulate the host immune system, which may further play a key role in modulating the cognitive function and behavior of AD. Recently, metabolomics has been used to identify key AD-related metabolic changes and define metabolic changes during AD disease trajectory. This review aims to summarize the key blood- and microbial-derived metabolites that are altered in AD and identify the potential metabolic biomarkers of AD, which will provide future targets for precision therapeutic modulation.

BACKGROUND: Skin photoaging is a condition caused by long-term exposure to ultraviolet irradiation, resulting in a variety of changes in the skin, such as capillary dilation, increased or absent pigmentation, dryness, sagging, and wrinkles. Stem cells possess a remarkable antioxidant capacity and the ability to proliferate, differentiate, and migrate, and their main mode of action is through paracrine secretion, with exosomes being the primary form of secretion. Stem cell-derived exosomes contain a variety of growth factors and cytokines and may have great potential to promote skin repair and delay skin ageing. METHODS: This review focuses on the mechanisms of UV-induced skin photoaging, the research progress of stem cell exosomes against skin photoaging, emerging application approaches and limitations in the application of exosome therapy. RESULT: Exosomes derived from various stem cells have the potential to prevent skin photoaging. CONCLUSION: The combination with novel materials may be a key step for their practical application, which could be an important direction for future basic research and practical applications.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors such as anti-PD-1 receptor antibodies have been shown to be effective in patients with advanced gastric cancer. However, there is a growing concern about immune-related adverse events. A case of a patient with gastric adenocarcinoma who developed toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) induced by sintilimab and subsequently developed lichenoid dermatitis is reported. TEN was diagnosed according to a history of sintilimab use, clinical symptoms and physical examination. During hospitalization, the patient developed recurrent fever caused by bacteremia and recovered from TEN after anti-infection and anti-inflammatory treatments. However, when TEN was controlled, the patient developed the lesional manifestations of lichenoid dermatitis. To date, no cases of lichenoid dermatitis after TEN have been reported following the use of PD-1 inhibitors.


PD-1 inhibitors are drugs that help fight stomach cancer but can sometimes cause skin problems. Most skin problems are minor and do not have a serious impact on the patient's health. However, life-threatening skin problems such as toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) can sometimes happen. This case report describes a patient with stomach cancer who had lichenoid dermatitis (another skin problem) after TEN, following the treatment of his cancer with PD-1 inhibitors. To the best of our knowledge, it is very rare to experience both skin problems after treating cancer with PD-1 inhibitors. This rare phenomenon is reported to bring more attention to it. More research is needed to determine how to treat this problem better.

Aqueous zinc ion hybrid capacitors (ZHCs) are promising as electrochemical energy storage devices due to their safety and cost-effectiveness. However, the practical application of aqueous ZHCs is impeded by zinc dendrite growth and side reactions induced by H2O during long-term cycling. Herein, an organic small molecule, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), is elaborately introduced into 2 M ZnSO4 electrolyte to simultaneously overcome these challenges. As convincingly evidenced by experimental and theoretical results, the DMSO reconstructs the Zn[(H2O)6]2+ structure and original hydrogen bond networks at the molecular level. By forming coordination bonds with Zn2+ and hydrogen bonds with H2O due to the stronger electron donating ability of oxygen in molecule, DMSO establishes a Zn2+ solvation shell structure that inhibits H2O decomposition and dendrite growth. As a proof of concept, the implementation of this hybrid electrolyte in a Zn||Cu asymmetrical cell results in a high Coulombic efficiency (CE) of over 99.8% for 568 cycles at a current density of 2 mA cm-2. Furthermore, the full cells using this hybrid electrolyte coupled with activated carbon (AC) cathode can operate for over 30,000 cycles. These results suggest that reconstructing the solvation structure and hydrogen bond networks guide the design of electrolytes for the development of high-performance aqueous ZHCs.

Tailored electrocatalysts that can modulate their electronic structure are highly desirable to facilitate the reaction kinetics of oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and oxidation reduction reaction (ORR) in lithium-oxygen batteries (LOB). Although octahedron predominant inverse spinels (e.g., CoFe2O4) have been proposed as promising candidates for catalytic reactions, their performance has remained unsatisfactory. Herein, the chromium (Cr) doped CoFe2O4 nanoflowers (Cr-CoFe2O4) are elaborately constructed on nickel foam as a bifunctional electrocatalyst that drastically improves the performance of LOB. The results show that the partially oxidized Cr6+ stabilizes the cobalt (Co) sites at high-valence and regulates the electronic structure of Co sites, facilitating the oxygen redox kinetics of LOB due to their strong electron-withdrawing capability. Moreover, DFT calculations and ultraviolet photoelectron spectrometer (UPS) results consistently demonstrate that Cr doping optimizes the eg electron filling state of the active octahedral Co sites, significantly improves the covalency of Co-O bonds, and enhances the degree of Co 3d-O 2p hybrids. As a result, Cr-CoFe2O4 catalyzed LOB can achieve low overpotential (0.48 V), high discharge capacity (22030 mA h g-1) and long-term cycling durability (over 500 cycles at 300 mA g-1). This work promotes the oxygen redox reaction and accelerates the electron transfer between Co ions and oxygen-containing intermediates, highlighting the potential of Cr-CoFe2O4 nanoflowers as bifunctional electrocatalysts for LOB.

FeCl3-catalyzed decyanation of α-aminonitriles followed by a [4 + 2] annulation with terminal alkynes has been developed to synthesize 2,4-diaryl quinolines. A broad range of aniline, aldehyde, and arylacetylene derivatives were well tolerated to access 2,4-diaryl quinolines in moderate to good yields. The control experiment studies suggested that the reaction proceeds through a nonradical pathway involving Povarov-type [4 + 2] annulation from the in situ generated iminium species. The synthetic application of this strategy (i) includes gram-scale synthesis and (ii) a continuous-flow process for a few representative compounds in a shorter reaction time (22 min) and (iii) worked well with styrene as a proof of concept.

Therapeutic failure in breast cancer patients is largely attributed to postoperative advancement and therapy resistance. Nevertheless, an efficacious prognostic signature for recognizing this population is lacking. The basement membrane (BM) has been proven to be strongly involved in cancer progression and metastasis, and has the potential to be a powerful predictor in breast cancer. In this study, substantial bulk RNA transcriptomics, single cell RNA transcriptomics and clinical information were collected from TCGA-BRCA, METABRIC and GSE96058, and Kaplan-Meier survival curves, single cell analysis and in vitro experiments were conducted to validate the signature. From the results, a prognostic index, namely, the BMscore, was established with six pivotal BM genes, specifically LOXL1, FBLN1, FBLN5, SDC1, ADAMTS8 and PXDNL. Verification by independent cohorts showed that breast cancer patients with high BMscore had a distinctly worse outcome. By integrating the BMscore and clinical factors, we constructed a prognostic nomogram that displayed good predictive capability. Furthermore, we evaluated the implication of the BMscore in breast cancer immune infiltration. More importantly, a strongly positive correlation between the BMscore and EMT activity was revealed with immunohistochemistry and in vitro experiments. Taken together, we provided a novel BMscore gene signature for breast cancer patients to predict clinical prognosis and metastasis accurately, which may help with individualized clinical decision-making.

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect and mechanism of dihydromyricetin (DHM) on Parkinson's disease (PD)-like lesions in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats. The T2DM model was established by feeding Sprague Dawley (SD) rats with high-fat diet and intraperitoneal injection of streptozocin (STZ). The rats were intragastrically administered with DHM (125 or 250 mg/kg per day) for 24 weeks. The motor ability of the rats was measured by balance beam experiment, the changes of dopaminergic (DA) neurons and the expression of autophagy initiation related protein ULK1 in the midbrains of the rats were detected by immunohistochemistry, and the protein expression levels of α-synuclein (α-syn), tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), as well as AMPK activation level, in the midbrains of the rats were detected by Western blot. The results showed that, compared with normal control, the rats with long-term T2DM exhibited motor dysfunction, increased α-syn aggregation, down-regulated TH protein expression, decreased number of DA neurons, declined activation level of AMPK, and significantly down-regulated ULK1 expression in the midbrain. DHM (250 mg/kg per day) treatment for 24 weeks significantly improved the above PD-like lesions, increased AMPK activity, and up-regulated ULK1 protein expression in T2DM rats. These results suggest that DHM may improve PD-like lesions in T2DM rats by activating AMPK/ULK1 pathway.

Queyrat erythroplasia is an intraepidermal squamous cell carcinoma localized on the glans penis or the inner side of the foreskin. It accounts for about 10% of all penile malignancies and up to 33% cases may lead to invasive squamous cell carcinoma and the intraurethral erythroplasia of Queyrat is relatively rare. Treatment of Queyrat erythroplasia present a challenge especially if the proximal urethra is involved. Here, we report a case of intractable Queyrat erythroplasia involving the urethral meatus. This case suggested that 5-aminolaevulinic acid photodynamic therapy is effective and safe in the treatment of Queyrat erythroplasia, which provides a new choice for the patients with Queyrat erythroplasia with poor therapeutic effect.

RESUMO

A new method for directly synthesizing acylated and alkylated quinazoline derivatives by the epoxide ring-opening reaction in the presence of I2/DMSO with 2-aminobenzamide is described herein. The developed mild protocol is efficient and displays a wide variety of functional group tolerance and substrate-controlled high selectivity, and the application of a continuous flow technique allows for faster reaction time and higher yields. Moreover, the robustness of the method is applicable in gram-scale synthesis.

The non-volatile resistive switching process of a MoS2based atomristor with a vertical structure is investigated by first-principles calculations. It is found that the monolayer MoS2with a S vacancy defect (VS) could maintain an insulation characteristic and a high resistance state (HRS) is remained. As an electrode metal atom is adsorbed on the MoS2monolayer, the semi-conductive filament is formed with the assistance ofVS. Under this condition, the atomristor presents a low resistance state (LRS). The ON state current of this semi-filament is increased close to two orders of magnitude larger than that without the filament. The energy barrier for an Au-atom to penetrate the monolayer MoS2viaVSis as high as 6.991 eV. When it comes to a double S vacancy (VS2), the energy barrier is still amounted to 3.554 eV, which manifests the bridge-like full conductive filament cannot form in monolayer MoS2based atomristor. The investigation here promotes the atomic level understanding of the resistive switching properties about the monolayer MoS2based memristor. The physics behind should also work in atomristors based on other monolayer transition-metal dichalcogenides, like WSe2and MoTe2. The investigation will be a reference for atomristor-device design or optimization.

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to elucidate the temporal and spatial characteristics of tumor evolution in an oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) mouse model with higher burden of lymphatic metastasis through high-throughput sequencing. METHODS: The OSCC model was established in 9 mice. DNA was extracted from the tumors of primary tongue lesions and disseminated tumor cells (DTCs) of submandibular gland lymph nodes and bone marrow, and then whole genome sequencing was performed. After bioinformatics analysis, somatic single-nucleotide variants (SSNVs) and copy number variations (CNVs) data were obtained. Based on SSNVs, clonal architecture and ancestor-descendant relationships among tumor cell subclones were elucidated. RESULTS: A total of 238 tumor-related SSNVs with 120 high-frequency mutated genes were obtained from 36 samples of 9 mice by whole-genome sequencing. The number of unique SSNVs in the primary lesion, submandibular lymph node and bone marrow was greater than the number of shared SSNVs. Furthermore, the primary lesion-originated subclones, which were identified by SSNVs, were also detected in submandibular lymph nodes in the early stage of oral carcinogenesis. Moreover, at different histopathological stages, unique subclones were also identified in DTCs isolated from lymph nodes. CONCLUSION: Tumor heterogeneity is significant in primary tumor cells and disseminated tumor cells. OSCC cells probably disseminate to lymph nodes in the early stage of oral carcinogenesis. OSCC is characterized by polyclonal dissemination, and the evolutionary trajectory of DTCs is potentially dominated by the tumor microenvironment.
