The implementation of advanced practice nurses (APNs) in a hospital structure requires a methodology, supportive actors and communication. Interprofessional collaboration with an APN provides added value for the patient. For this to work, teams must develop their collaborative practice and train in this way of working.

The French National Association of Advanced Practice Nurses has set several objectives, including supporting its members in their training projects as well as in the implementation of their various activities and the improvement of their professional practices. Each college is committed to organizing regular videoconference meetings so that its members can exchange, build together and train. At the same time, the colleges are establishing new partnerships with various organizations to encourage communication and the deployment of the skills of advanced practice nurses.

In France, periodic certification of nurses will come into effect in 2023. In Canada, self-assessment, which corresponds to the evaluation of one's own competencies, is one of the means used to evaluate these professionals. This capacity is based on the principle of reflexivity, which is implemented at various levels: initial training, continuing professional development, and analysis of professional practices in the field. Advanced practice nurses are now among the players in this process.
