RESUMO

In 2018, Nouioui et al. proposed that Bifidobacterium coryneforme was a later synonym of Bifidobacterium indicum on the basis of the digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH) value (85.0%) between B. coryneforme LMG 18911T and B. indicum LMG 11587T. However, in the study of Scardovi et al. (1970), the type strains of B. indicum and B. coryneforme only exhibited 60% DNA-DNA hybridization value. In the present study, the genomes of B. coryneforme CGMCC 1.2279T, B. coryneforme JCM 5819T, B. indicum JCM 1302T, B. indicum CGMCC 1.2275T, B. indicum DSM 20214T, B. indicum LMG 27437T, B. indicum ATCC 25912T, B. indicum KCTC 3230T, B. indicum CCUG 34985T, were sequenced, and the taxonomic relationship between B. coryneforme and B. indicum was re-evaluated. On the basis of the results presented here, (i) ATCC 25912 and DSM 20214 deposited by Vittorio Scardovi are two different strains; (ii) the type strain of B. indicum is ATCC 25912T (= JCM 1302T = LMG 27437T = CGMCC 1.2275T = KCTC 3230T), and not DSM 20214 (= BCRC 14674 = CCUG 34985 = LMG 11587); (iii) B. coryneforme and B. indicum represent two different species of the genus Bifidobacterium; (iv) strain DSM 20214 (= BCRC 14674 = CCUG 34985 = LMG 11587) belongs to B. coryneforme.

This study investigated the impact of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) at Neiguan acupoint (PC6) on the physiological and behavioral responses of participants exposed in virtual height. 40 participants were included in the study and were randomly assigned to either a control group or an intervention group. Participants had an immersive experience with a VR interactive platform that provided somatosensory interaction in height stimulation scenes. Psychological scores, behavioral and cognitive performance, and physiological responses were recorded and analyzed. The results indicated that the intervention group had significantly lower fear scores compared to the control group. Analysis of heart rate variability revealed that the intervention group exhibited improved heart rate variability, indicating enhanced cardiovascular function and emotion regulation. The behavioral and cognitive results demonstrated that the intervention group exhibited higher left eye openness, faster reaction times, and greater movement distance, suggesting enhanced attentional focus, cognitive processing, and reduced avoidance behaviors. These findings suggest that TEAS at PC6 can effectively reduce fear and improve the regulation of physiological and behavioral responses to negative emotional stimuli.

A novel bifidobacterium (designated F753-1T) was isolated from the gut of honeybee (Apis mellifera). Strain F753-1T was characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Strain F753-1T was phylogenetically related to the type strains of Bifidobacterium mizhiensis, Bifidobacterium asteroides, Bifidobacterium choladohabitans, Bifidobacterium mellis, Bifidobacterium apousia and Bifidobacterium polysaccharolyticum, having 98.4-99.8 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities. The phylogenomic tree indicated that strain F753-1T was most closely related to the type strains of B. mellis and B. choladohabitans. Strain F753-1T had the highest average nucleotide identity (94.1-94.5 %) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (56.3 %) values with B. mellis Bin7NT. Acid production from amygdalin, d-fructose, gentiobiose, d-mannose, maltose, sucrose and d-xylose, activity of α-galactosidase, pyruvate utilization and hydrolysis of hippurate could differentiate strain F753-1T from B. mellis CCUG 66113T and B. choladohabitans JCM 34586T. Based upon the data obtained in the present study, a novel species, Bifidobacterium apis sp. nov., is proposed, and the type strain is F753-1T (=CCTCC AB 2023227T=JCM 36562T=LMG 33388T).

The use of biobased flame-retardant (FR) agents for reducing the flammability of polyester/cotton (T/C) blend fabrics is highly desirable. In this study, a novel and sustainable phosphorus/nitrogen-containing FR, namely, phytic acid-urea (PA-UR) salt, was synthesized. The PA-UR salt was further used to enhance the FR performance of T/C fabric through surface modification. We further explored the potential chemical structure of PA-UR and the surface morphology, thermal stability, heat release capacity, FR properties, and mode of action of the coated fabric. The coated fabric achieved self-extinguishing and exhibited an increased limiting oxygen index of 31.8%. Moreover, the coated T/C blend fabric demonstrated a significantly reduced heat release capacity, indicating a decreased fire hazard. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed the anticipated decomposition of the coated T/C blend fabric and a subsequent increase in thermal stability. The burned char residues also maintained their fiber shape structures, suggesting the presence of condensed FR actions in the PA-UR-coated T/C blend fabric.

Backgrounds: The validity of heart rate variability (HRV) has been substantiated in mental workload assessments. However, cognitive tasks often coincide with physical exertion in practical mental work, but their synergic effects on HRV remains insufficiently established. The study aims were to investigate the combined effects of cognitive and physical load on autonomic nerve functions. Methods: Thirty-five healthy male subjects (aged 23.5 ± 3.3 years) were eligible and enrolled in the study. The subjects engaged in n-back cognitive tasks (1-back, 2-back, and 3-back) under three distinct physical conditions, involving isotonic contraction of the left upper limb with loads of 0 kg, 3 kg, and 5 kg. Electrocardiogram signals and cognitive task performance were recorded throughout the tasks, and post-task assessment of subjective experiences were conducted using the NASA-TLX scale. Results: The execution of n-back tasks resulted in enhanced perceptions of task-load feelings and increased reaction times among subjects, accompanied by a decline in the accuracy rate (p < 0.05). These effects were synchronously intensified by the imposition of physical load. Comparative analysis with a no-physical-load scenario revealed significant alterations in the HRV of the subjects during the cognitive task under moderate and high physical conditions. The main features were a decreased power of the high frequency component (p < 0.05) and an increased low frequency component (p < 0.05), signifying an elevation in sympathetic activity. This physiological response manifested similarly at both moderate and high physical levels. In addition, a discernible linear correlation was observed between HRV and task-load feelings, as well as task performance under the influence of physical load (p < 0.05). Conclusion: HRV can serve as a viable indicator for assessing mental workload in the context of physical activities, making it suitable for real-world mental work scenarios.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to analyze the clinical and genetic characteristics of 6 Chinese patients with foveal hypoplasia (FH) caused by the variants of solute carrier family 38 member 8 (SLC38A8), and to describe the genotype and phenotype of SLC38A8 variants from previous literature. METHODS: All subjects underwent comprehensive ophthalmic examinations. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) was performed to evaluate the structural grade of FH. Pathogenic variants of SLC38A8 gene were identified using panel-based next-generation sequencing and direct Sanger sequencing techniques. Further, all previously reported cases of SLC38A8 variants were re-analyzed together with the novel ones identified in this study. RESULTS: Nystagmus and FH were present in 6 patients with variants of SLC38A8 gene, accompanied by a normal anterior segment. Grade 4 FH was identified in 4 patients. A total of 12 variants of SLC38A8 gene were identified, including 9 novel variants. Systematical analysis revealed that half of the variants (30/60) were missense, the majority of which (23/30) were distributed in the transmembrane (TM) domains. Grade 4 FH was detected in the majority of patients (66%, 23/35). There was no statistical difference in the clinical features between the subgroups of patients with 0, 1 and 2 missense variants. CONCLUSION: Severe arrest of foveal development was identified in patients with variants of SLC38A8. This study provides a brief summary of the clinical and genetic characteristics of the pathogenic SLC38A8 variants, which is helpful in the differentiation diagnosis of FH.

BACKGROUND: Topography and tomography are valuable techniques for measuring the corneal shape, but they cannot directly assess its internal mechanical stresses. And nonuniform corneal stress plays a crucial biomechanical role in the progression of diseases and postoperative changes. Given the cornea's inherent transparency, analyzing corneal stresses using the photoelasticity method is highly advantageous. However, quantification of photoelasticity faces challenges in obtaining the stress-optic coefficient due to wrinkles caused by the non-spherical geometry during tensional experiments. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we propose an innovative experimental setup aimed at generating a gradient field of simple shear stress and achieving surface flatness during corneal stretching experiments, enabling the acquisition of the stress-optic coefficient through comparison with numerical results. METHODS: Our designed setup applies fluid pressure and force couples on the cornea. The internal fluid pressure maintains the corneal shape, preventing wrinkles, while the force couples create a stress field leading to isochromatic fringes. RESULTS: We successfully measured the stress-optic coefficients of the porcine anisotropic cornea in ex-vivo as 1.87 × 10-9 (horizontal) and 1.97 × 10-9 (vertical) (m2/N). Each isochromatic fringe order represents a shear stress range of 6.05 × 104 Pa under a low tension. CONCLUSIONS: This study establishes a significant connection between corneal photoelastic patterns and the quantification of corneal stress by enabling direct measurement through advanced photoelastic visualization technology for clinical applications.

Abnormal lipid metabolism is an essential hallmark of glioblastoma. Hormone sensitive lipase (HSL), an important rate-limiting enzyme contributed to lipolysis, which was involved in aberrant lipolysis of glioblastoma, however, its definite roles and the relevant regulatory pathway have not been fully elucidated. Our investigations disclosed high expression of HSL in glioblastoma. Knock-down of HSL restrained proliferation, migration, and invasion of glioblastoma cells while adding to FAs could significantly rescue the inhibitory effect of si-HSL on tumor cells. Overexpression of HSL further promoted tumor cell proliferation and invasion. Bioinformatics analysis and dual-luciferase reporter assay were performed to predict and verify the regulatory role of ncRNAs on HSL. Mechanistically, hsa_circ_0021205 regulated HSL expression by sponging miR-195-5p, which further promoted lipolysis and drove the malignant progression of glioblastoma. Besides, hsa_circ_0021205/miR-195-5p/HSL axis activated the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) signaling pathway. These findings suggested that hsa_circ_0021205 promoted tumorigenesis of glioblastoma through regulation of HSL, and targeting hsa_circ_0021205/miR-195-5p/HSL axis can serve as a promising new strategy against glioblastoma.

Previous neuroimaging studies have revealed abnormal brain networks in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) in emotional processing. While any cognitive task consists of a series of stages, little is yet known about the topology of functional brain networks in MDD for these stages during emotional face recognition. To address this problem, electroencephalography (EEG)-based functional brain networks of MDD patients at different stages of facial information processing were investigated in this study. First, EEG signals were collected from 16 patients with MDD and 18 age-, gender-, and education-matched normal subjects when performing an emotional face recognition task. Second, the global field power (GFP) method was employed to divide group-averaged event-related potentials into different stages. Third, using the phase transfer entropy (PTE) approach, the brain networks of MDD patients and normal individuals were constructed for each stage in negative and positive face processing, respectively. Finally, we compared the topological properties of brain networks of each stage between the two groups using graph theory approaches. The results showed that the analyzed three stages of emotional face processing corresponded to specific neurophysiological phases, namely, visual perception, face recognition, and emotional decision-making. It was also demonstrated that depressed patients showed abnormally decreased characteristic path length at the visual perception stage of negative face recognition and normalized characteristic path length in the stage of emotional decision-making during positive face processing compared to healthy subjects. Furthermore, while both the MDD and normal groups' brain networks were found to exhibit small-world network characteristics, the brain network of patients with depression tended to be randomized. Moreover, for patients with MDD, the centro-parietal region may lose its status as a hub in the process of facial expression identification. Together, our findings suggested that altered emotional function in MDD patients might be associated with disruptions in the topological organization of functional brain networks during emotional face recognition, which further deepened our understanding of the emotion processing dysfunction underlying MDD.

Four lactic acid bacteria, designated F690T, F697, F790T and F769-2, were isolated from the gut of honeybee (Apis mellifera). Results of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strains F690T and F697 were phylogenetically related to the type strains of Lactobacillus kimbladii, Lactobacillus laiwuensis, Lactobacillus kullabergensis and Lactobacillus huangpiensis, having 99.1-99.6 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities; and that strains F790T and F769-2 were most closely related to the type strain of Lactobacillus melliventris, having 99.2-99.3 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities. The phylogenies based on concatenated pheS, rpoA, gyrB, hsp60, recA, rpoB and tuf sequences and based on whole genome sequences were identical to that based on 16S rRNA gene sequences. Strains F690T and F697 exhibited the highest average nucleotide identity (ANI; 92.1-93.2 %), digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH; 50-50.1 %) and average amino acid identity (AAI; 94.9-95.1 %) values with L. kimbladii Hma2NT. Strains F790T and F769-2 had the highest ANI (93.1-94 %), dDDH (54.4 %) and AAI (94.4-94.7 %) values with L. melliventris Hma8NT. Based upon the data obtained in the present study, two novel species, Lactobacillus juensis sp. nov. and Lactobacillus rizhaonensis sp. nov., are proposed and the type strains are F690T (=JCM 36259T=CCTCC AB 2023131T) and F790T (=JCM 36260T=CCTCC AB 2023132T), respectively.

Rationale: Vitamin D (VD) has been suggested to have antitumor effects, however, research on the role of its transporter vitamin D-binding protein (VDBP, gene name as GC) in tumors is limited. In this study, we demonstrated the mechanism underlying the inhibition of vasculogenic mimicry (VM) by VDBP in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and proposed an anti-tumor strategy of combining anti-PD-1 therapy with VD. Methods: Three-dimensional cell culture models and mice with hepatocyte-specific GC deletion were utilized to study the correlation between VDBP expression and VM. A patient-derived tumor xenograft (PDX) model was further applied to validate the therapeutic efficacy of VD in combination with an anti-PD-1 drug. Results: The study revealed that VDBP expression is negatively correlated with VM in HCC patients and elevated VDBP expression is associated with a favorable prognosis. The mechanism studies suggested VDBP hindered the binding of Twist1 on the promoter of VE-cadherin by interacting with its helix-loop-helix DNA binding domain, ultimately leading to the inhibition of VM. Furthermore, VD facilitated the translocation of the vitamin D receptor (VDR) into the nucleus where VDR interacts with Yin Yang 1 (YY1), leading to the transcriptional activation of VDBP. We further demonstrated that the combination of VD and anti-PD-1 led to an improvement in the anti-tumor efficacy of an anti-PD-1 drug. Conclusion: Collectively, we identified VDBP as an important prognostic biomarker in HCC patients and uncovered it as a therapeutic target for enhancing the efficacy of immune therapy.

To investigate whether high cognitive task load (CTL) for aircraft pilots can be identified by analysing heart-rate variability, electrocardiograms were recorded while cadet pilots (n = 68) performed the plane tracking, anti-gravity pedalling, and reaction tasks during simulated flight missions. Data for standard electrocardiogram parameters were extracted from the R-R-interval series. In the research phase, low frequency power (LF), high frequency power (HF), normalised HF, and LF/HF differed significantly between high and low CTL conditions (p < .05 for all). A principal component analysis identified three components contributing 90.62% of cumulative heart-rate variance. These principal components were incorporated into a composite index. Validation in a separate group of cadet pilots (n = 139) under similar conditions showed that the index value significantly increased with increasing CTL (p < .05). The heart-rate variability index can be used to objectively identify high CTL flight conditions.Practitioner summary: We used principal component analysis of electrocardiogram data to construct a composite index for identifying high cognitive task load in pilots during simulated flight. We validated the index in a separate group of pilots under similar conditions. A particular GTPase-activating protein called RACGAP1 is involved in apoptosis, proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance in a variety of malignancies. Nevertheless, the role of RACGAP1 in pan-cancer was less studied, and its value of the expression and prognostic of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has not been explored. Hence, the goal of this study was to investigate the oncogenic and immunological roles of RACGAP1 in various cancers and its potential value in NPC. We comprehensively analyzed RACGAP1 expression, prognostic value, function, methylation levels, relationship with immune cells, immune infiltration, and immunotherapy response in pan-cancer utilizing multiple databases. The results discovered that RACGAP1 expression was elevated in most cancers and suggested poor prognosis, which could be related to the involvement of RACGAP1 in various cancer-related pathways such as the cell cycle and correlated with RACGAP1 methylation levels, immune cell infiltration and reaction to immunotherapy, and chemoresistance. RACGAP1 could inhibit anti-tumor immunity and immunotherapy responses by fostering immune cell infiltration and cytotoxic T lymphocyte dysfunction. Significantly, we validated that RACGAP1 mRNA and protein were highly expressed in NPC. The Gene Expression Omnibus database revealed that elevated RACGAP1 expression was associated with shorter PFS in patients with NPC, and RACGAP1 potentially influenced cell cycle progression, DNA replication, metabolism, and immune-related pathways, resulting in the recurrence and metastasis of NPC. This study indicated that RACGAP1 could be a potential biomarker in pan-cancer and NPC.

BACKGROUND: The effect of left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) on right ventricular (RV) function is not well known, and there is conflicting evidence regarding whether cardiac resynchronization therapy improves RV function. OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to investigate the effect of LBBP on RV function and to evaluate the response of RV dysfunction (RVD) to LBBP. METHODS: Sixty-five LBBP candidates were prospectively included in the study and underwent echocardiography at baseline and 6-month follow-up. LBBP response was left ventricular (LV) reverse remodeling, defined as a reduction in LV end-systolic volume of ≥15% at follow-up. RESULTS: Patients were assigned to 2 subgroups on the basis of 3-dimensional echocardiography-derived RV ejection fraction (EF) before LBBP implantation: 30 patients (46%) in the no RVD group and 35 patients (54%) in the RVD group. The RVD group was characterized by higher N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide levels, New York Heart Association functional class, and larger LV/RV size. LBBP induced a significant reduction in QRS duration, LV size, and improvement in LVEF and mechanical dyssynchrony in both the no RVD and RVD groups, and a significant improvement in RV volumes and RVEF in the RVD group (all P<.01). LBBP resulted in a similar percentage reduction in QRS duration, LV dimensions, LV volumes, and percentage improvement in LVEF in RVD and no RVD groups (all P>.05). LV reverse remodeling (29 of 35 patients vs 27 of 30 patients; P = .323) in the RVD group was similar to that in the no RVD group after LBBP. CONCLUSION: LBBP induces excellent electrical and mechanical resynchronization, with a significant improvement in RV volumes and function. RVD did not diminish the beneficial effects on LV reverse remodeling after LBBP.

BACKGROUND: Standard low-resolution electromagnetic tomography (sLORETA) was used to accurately detect EEG changes in mental fatigue of air traffic controllers (ATCo) under a simulated air traffic control (ATC) task. We explored the changes in standard current density, activated cortical intensity, and brain source location. METHODS: The participants were instructed to use the tower flight command simulation training system for three hours of uninterrupted ATC task. The 3-hour EEG signal was divided into four stages: task start, 1st hour, 2nd hour, and task end. Each stage was preprocessed for 3 minutes to explore the EEG changes and then processed by sLORETA in a statistical non-parametric mapping analysis. RESULTS: The current density distribution of δ and α oscillations differed significantly during the four tasks, while θ, ß and γ oscillations did not. Changes in δ oscillations of the brain during mental fatigue were detected mainly in the postcentral gyrus (BA2 and BA3), precentral gyrus (BA4 and BA6), inferior temporal gyrus (BA20), and superior temporal gyrus (BA38). The α oscillations were found mainly decreased in the postcentral gyrus (BA2) and inferior parietal lobule (BA40) when the task was in progress compared with the end of the task. CONCLUSION: The superior temporal gyrus and somatosensory cortex were the main activated cortical regions during the simulated ATC task. The α and δ oscillations showed contrasting activity during simulated ATC task, which might reflect the release of task-relevant brain's areas from inhibition and enhance the neural activity.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Agomelatine in improving symptoms in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), providing more scientific evidence for the treatment of depression, and offering more effective therapeutic options for patients. METHODS: A total of 180 MDD patients in acute phase from 10 psychiatric hospitals of Grade three in Zhejiang Province were enrolled in this 12-week study with the competitive and consecutive pattern, and they were randomized into two different groups treated with flexible-dosage antidepressants of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) or agomelatine, respectively. The subjects were evaluated with psychological scales of HAMD-17, HAMA, SHAPS for anhedonia, MFI-20 for fatigue, PQSI for sleep quality and MEQ for disturbances in chronobiologic rhythms at baseline, 2, 4, 8 and 12-weekend points, and TESS was used for side-effect. The results were analyzed with repeated measurement analysis of variance. RESULTS: The two groups each had 90 participants, and there were no significant differences at baseline. The scores of various assessment scales showed statistically significant time main effects during the visits (P < 0.01). The Agomelatine group demonstrated faster efficacy within 2 weeks, with better improvement in SHAPS, MEQ, and PSQI compared to the SSRIs group. However, the remission rate at 12 weeks was lower in the Agomelatine group than in the SSRIs group (63.3% and 72.2%), but the difference between the groups was not statistically significant. The Agomelatine group had fewer adverse reactions (14.4% and 16.7%), but there was a slightly higher incidence of liver function impairment (6.7% and 4.4%), with no statistically significant difference between the groups. CONCLUSION: Agomelatine, as a novel antidepressant, shows certain advantages in improving depression and anxiety symptoms and is comparable to SSRIs in terms of safety. However, its long-term efficacy and safety on MDD or other depressive subtypes still require further observation and research.

Previous studies have shown that Lactobacillus futsaii (now Companilactobacillus futsaii) can be subdivided at the subspecies level. The main purpose of this study is to explore whether this is correct by using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Lactobacillus futsaii subsp. chongqingii was proposed and effectively published in 2019. The names L. futsaii subsp. chongqingensis corrig. and Lactobacillus futsaii subsp. futsaii were not validated until March 2023. However, in the reclassification of the genus Lactobacillus by Zheng et al. in April 2020, L. futsaii was transferred to Companilactobacillus as Companilactobacillus futsaii. So Lactobacillus futsaii subsp. chongqingensis and Lactobacillus futsaii subsp. futsaii should be transferred to Companilactobacillus futsaii now. In the present study, the relationship between L. futsaii subsp. chongqingensis and L. futsaii subsp. futsaii was re-evaluated. The type strains of L. futsaii subsp. chongqingensis and L. futsaii subsp. futsaii shared identical pheS and rpoA sequences, high dDDH value, similar phenotypic characteristics and fatty acid compositions, indicating that they belonged to the same subspecies. Here, we propose to reclassify Lactobacillus futsaii subsp. chongqingensis and Lactobacillus futsaii subsp. futsaii as Companilactobacillus futsaii subsp. chongqingensis comb. nov. and Companilactobacillus futsaii subsp. futsaii comb. nov., respectively, and Companilactobacillus futsaii subsp. chongqingensis as a later heterotypic synonym of Companilactobacillus futsaii subsp. futsaii.

Fully leveraging the remarkable properties of low-dimensional semiconductors requires developing a deep understanding of how their structure and disorder affect the flow of electronic energy. Here, we study exciton transport in single crystals of the two-dimensional superatomic semiconductor CsRe6Se8I3, which straddles a photophysically rich yet elusive intermediate electronic-coupling regime. Using femtosecond scattering microscopy to directly image exciton transport in CsRe6Se8I3, we reveal the rare coexistence of coherent and incoherent exciton transport, leading to either persistent or transient electronic delocalization depending on temperature. Notably, coherent excitons exhibit ballistic transport at speeds approaching an extraordinary 1600 km/s over 300 fs. Such fast transport is mediated by J-aggregate-like superradiance, owing to the anisotropic structure and long-range order of CsRe6Se8I3. Our results establish superatomic crystals as ideal platforms for studying the intermediate electronic-coupling regime in highly ordered environments, in this case displaying long-range electronic delocalization, ultrafast energy flow, and a tunable dual transport regime.

Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) hosts phonon polaritons (PhP), hybrid light-matter states that facilitate electromagnetic field confinement and exhibit long-range ballistic transport. Extracting the spatiotemporal dynamics of PhPs usually requires "tour de force" experimental methods such as ultrafast near-field infrared microscopy. Here, we leverage the remarkable environmental sensitivity of excitons in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides to image PhP propagation in adjacent hBN slabs. Using ultrafast optical microscopy on monolayer WSe2/hBN heterostructures, we image propagating PhPs from 3.5 K to room temperature with subpicosecond and few-nanometer precision. Excitons in WSe2 act as transducers between visible light pulses and infrared PhPs, enabling visible-light imaging of PhP transport with far-field microscopy. We also report evidence of excitons in WSe2 copropagating with hBN PhPs over several micrometers. Our results provide new avenues for imaging polar excitations over a large frequency range with extreme spatiotemporal precision and new mechanisms to realize ballistic exciton transport at room temperature.

Zinc finger protein 281 (ZNF281) has been shown to promote tumor progression. However, the underlying mechanism remains to be further elucidated. In this study, ZNF281 knockdown increased the expression of mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, accompanied with increment of mitochondrial content, oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and levels of TCA cycle intermetabolites. Mechanistic investigation revealed that ZNF281 suppressed the transcription of TFAM, nuclear respiratory factor 1 (NRF1) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator-1α (PGC-1α). Furthermore, ZNF281 interacted with NRF1 and PGC-1α, and was recruited onto the promoter regions of TFAM, TFB1M and TFB2M repressing their expression. Knockdown of TFAM reversed ZNF281 depletion induced up-regulation of mitochondrial biogenesis and function, as well as impaired epithelial mesenchymal transition, invasion and metastasis of HCC cells. Our research uncovered a novel suppressive function of ZNF281 on mitochondrial biogenesis through inhibition of the NRF1/PGC-1α-TFAM axis, which may hold therapeutic potentials for HCC.
