RESUMO

Frequency swept reflectometry has reached the symbolic value of 1 µs sweeping time; this performance has been made possible, thanks to an improved control of the ramp voltage driving the frequency source. In parallel, the memory depth of the acquisition system has been upgraded and can provide up to 200 000 signals during a plasma discharge. Additional improvements regarding the trigger delay determination of the acquisition and the voltage ramp linearity required by this ultra-fast technique have been set. While this diagnostic is traditionally dedicated to the plasma electron density profile measurement, such a fast sweeping rate can provide the study of fast plasma events and turbulence with unprecedented time and radial resolution from the edge to the core. Experimental results obtained on ASDEX Upgrade plasmas are presented to demonstrate the performances of the diagnostic.

RESUMO

Turbulence in hot magnetized plasmas is shown to generate permeable localized transport barriers that globally organize into the so-called "ExB staircase" [G. Dif-Pradalier et al., Phys. Rev. E, 82, 025401(R) (2010)]. Its domain of existence and dependence with key plasma parameters is discussed theoretically. Based on these predictions, staircases are observed experimentally in the Tore Supra tokamak by means of high-resolution fast-sweeping X-mode reflectometry. This observation strongly emphasizes the critical role of mesoscale self-organization in plasma turbulence and may have far-reaching consequences for turbulent transport models and their validation.

RESUMO

Reflectometry profile measurement requires an accurate determination of the plasma reflected signal. Along with a good resolution and a high signal to noise ratio of the phase measurement, adequate data analysis is required. A new data processing based on time-frequency tomographic representation is used. It provides a clearer separation between multiple components and improves isolation of the relevant signals. In this paper, this data processing technique is applied to two sets of signals coming from two different reflectometer devices used on the Tore Supra tokamak. For the standard density profile reflectometry, it improves the initialization process and its reliability, providing a more accurate profile determination in the far scrape-off layer with density measurements as low as 10(16) m(-1). For a second reflectometer, which provides measurements in front of a lower hybrid launcher, this method improves the separation of the relevant plasma signal from multi-reflection processes due to the proximity of the plasma.

RESUMO

A new system has been installed on the JET tokamak consisting of six independent fast-sweeping reflectometers covering four bands between 44 and 150 GHz and using orthogonal polarizations. It has been designed to measure density profiles from the plasma edge to the center, launching microwaves through 40 m of oversized corrugated waveguides. It has routinely produced density profiles with a maximum repetition rate of one profile every 15 µs and up to 100,000 profiles per pulse.

RESUMO

In order to study the temporal dynamics of turbulence, the sweep time of our reflectometry has been shortened from 20 to 2 µs with 1 µs dead time. Detailed technical aspects of the upgrade are given, namely, about the stability of the ramp generation, the detection setup, and the fast acquisition module. A review of studies (velocity measurement of the turbulence, modifications of the wavenumber spectrum, radial mapping of correlation time, etc.) offered by such improvements is presented.

RESUMO

Turbulence measurements in TORE SUPRA tokamak plasmas have been quantitatively compared to predictions by nonlinear gyrokinetic simulations. For the first time, numerical results simultaneously match within experimental uncertainty (a) the magnitude of effective heat diffusivity, (b) rms values of density fluctuations, and (c) wave-number spectra in both the directions perpendicular to the magnetic field. Moreover, the nonlinear simulations help to revise as an instrumental effect the apparent experimental evidence of strong turbulence anisotropy at spatial scales of the order of ion-sound Larmor radius.

RESUMO

Steady state full noninductive current tore supra plasmas offer a unique opportunity to study the local parametric dependence of particle pinch velocity, in order to discriminate among different theories. Magnetic field shear is found to generate an inward pinch which is dominant in the gradient region (normalized radius 0.3

RESUMO

Recently, plasmas exceeding 4 min have been obtained with lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) in Tore Supra. These LHCD plasmas extend for over 80 times the resistive current diffusion time with zero loop voltage. Under such unique conditions the neoclassical particle pinch driven by the toroidal electric field vanishes. Nevertheless, the density profile remains peaked for more than 4 min. For the first time, the existence of an inward particle pinch in steady-state plasma without toroidal electric field, much larger than the value predicted by the collisional neoclassical theory, is experimentally demonstrated.

RESUMO

On the basis of a series of 89 patients with a histologically confirmed adenocarcinoma of the prostate and another population of 89 patients with prostatic hypertrophy, also confirmed histologically, the authors study the sensitivity and specificity of the radio-immunological estimation of prostatic acid phosphatase levels. Comparison is made of the performance of radio-immunological techniques with that of conventional techniques. As a general rule, the sensitivity of the test is very low, since amongst 39% of the prostatic carcinomas studied, the RI acid phosphatase level was below the upper limit of normal fixed at 3.2 ng/ml. By contrast, the degree of specificity is high, since amongst 96% of cases with abnormally high RI acid phosphatase levels, the diagnosis was indeed an adenocarcinoma of the prostate. In terms of stages, sensitivity was found to be nil for minor stages T1 - T2 and of the order of 80% for advanced stages. This confirmed data from the literature. In the absence of bone metastases detectable radiologically or by isotope bone scan, an abnormally high RI acid phosphatase level is predictive of lymph node involvement in 90% of cases. By contrast, under the same conditions of bone investigations, a normal RI acid phosphatase level corresponds in 81% of cases with absence of lymph node involvement and in 19% with limited involvement. In patients with value which are normal or become normal under the influence of treatment, the prognosis is better than if such does not apply. Finally, figures given by radioimmunological estimation are much more specific than those obtained by traditional enzyme estimations.
