RESUMO

Our comprehensive study on EuFe_{2}As_{2} reveals a dramatic reduction of magnetic detwinning fields compared to other AFe_{2}As_{2} (A=Ba, Sr, Ca) iron pnictides by indirect magnetoelastic coupling of the Eu^{2+} ions. We find that only ∼0.1 T are sufficient for persistent detwinning below the local Eu^{2+} ordering; above T_{Eu}=19 K, higher fields are necessary. Even after the field is switched off, a significant imbalance of twin domains remains constant up to the structural and electronic phase transition (190 K). This persistent detwinning provides the unique possibility to study the low temperature electronic in-plane anisotropy of iron pnictides without applying any symmetry-breaking external force.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to compare the results of the single (STR) versus double TightRope™ (DTR) technique for stabilisation of acute separations of the AC joint with the hypothesis that DTR achieves lower CC distance. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 29 consecutive patients treated operatively with the TR technique (mean age 38.1 years, n=26 male) were analysed in a cohort study with a mean follow-up of 13.3 months (12.0-21.7). Acute AC joint separations types III and V according to Rockwood (R) were included; R types I, II, IV and VI were excluded. The prospective scores determined pre-op and 3, 6 and 12 months post-op and X-rays were evaluated. RESULTS: Of the patients 12 suffered an R type III and 17 an R V separation; 14 were treated with STR and 15 with DTR. With STR, 8 R III and 6 R V injuries and with DTR 4 R III and 11 R V injuries were treated arthroscopically. STR achieved an increased CC distance >125% compared to the contralateral AC joint in five cases (36%). Two of them occurred as R V and three as R III injury. DTR achieved a CC distance >125% in two cases of an R V injury (13%). CONCLUSION: The DTR technique provides lower CC distance compared to the STR technique, without a significant difference of CC distance and scores.

RESUMO

The charge response of a charge-ordered state in the organic conductor α-(BEDT-TTF)2I3 is characterized by dc resistivity, dielectric and optical spectroscopy in different crystallographic directions within the two-dimensional conduction layer. Two dielectric modes are detected. The large mode is related to the phasonlike excitation of the 2k(F) bond-charge density wave which forms in the ab plane. The small dielectric mode is associated with the motion of domain-wall pairs along the a and b axes between two types of domains which are created due to inversion symmetry breaking.

RESUMO

A clinical case is presented in which a systemic approach to psychotherapy was used. This approach to clinical work is crucial in that the interactive pattern of social and institutional relationships is seen as the context for treatment. Systems theory allows the clinician to move away from a cultural way of thinking about clinical work focused on the individual, and instead views the individual in interaction with multiple systems as the focus for clinical intervention. This case study illustrates the nature of systemic work by demonstrating four levels of systems that have an impact on work with the patient: the individual level, the family systems level, the clinic system level, and the agency level. The case highlights how therapists in training might consider the context of larger systems that influence the environmental and psychological factors in their patients' lives.

RESUMO

In a major decision handed down last term (International Union [UAW] versus Johnson Controls, Inc.), the Supreme Court ruled that employment practices excluding fertile or pregnant women from the workplace because of alleged concerns for fetal health constitute illegal sex discrimination. We analyze the three opinions in the case and explain why the decision was an essential first step to promoting reproductive and developmental health in the workplace. Continued progress toward eliminating or reducing reproductive occupational risks will require comprehensive legal strategies involving private lawsuits, governmental regulation and enforcement actions, and new legislation designed to preserve the existing rights of workers and to obtain new and additional protections. Finally, we caution that, in designing such strategies, it will be important to avoid solutions that either shift responsibility for reproductive health to workers, rather than to employers, or that undermine other important legal rights.

RESUMO

Fifty-four cases of respiratory allergy to house dust were studied by observing clinical reactions and, simultaneously, the results of skin tests, respiratory function tests, radio-allergo-sorbent test (RAST) and human basophil degranulation test (HBDT). The standard skin tests matched clinical reactions and correlated better with the results of HBDT (89.5%) than with those of RAST (50%). This would suggest that HBDT is a more reliable test to explore immediate hypersensitivity to heterogenous allergens.

RESUMO

By using the Api-Zym System 55 enzymes were determined to be present in bee venom, venom sac, sacless whole body extract and whole body commercial extracts. Acid phosphatase activity was high in bee venom and sacless whole body extracts. Arylamidase activities were elevated in sacless whole body extracts and very low or undetectable in venoms. Conversely, glycyl-prolin arylamidase activity was high in venoms and very low in the other extracts.
