RESUMO

Clonal integration of defense or stress signal induced systemic resistance in leaf of interconnected ramets. However, similar effects of stress signal in root are poorly understood within clonal network. Clonal fragments of Centella asiaticas with first-young, second-mature, third-old and fourth-oldest ramets were used to investigate transportation or sharing of stress signal among interconnected ramets suffering from low water availability. Compared with control, oxidative stress in root of the first-young, second-mature and third-old ramets was significantly alleviated by exogenous ABA application to the fourth-oldest ramets as well as enhancement of antioxidant enzyme (SOD, POD, CAT and APX) activities and osmoregulation ability. Surface area and volume in root of the first-young ramets were significantly increased and total length in root of the third-old ramets was significantly decreased. POD activity in root of the fourth-oldest and third-old ramets was significantly enhanced by exogenous ABA application to the first-young ramets. Meanwhile, total length and surface area in root of the fourth-oldest and third-old ramets were significantly decreased. Ratio of belowground to aboveground biomass in the whole clonal fragments was significantly increased by exogenous ABA application to the fourth-oldest or first-young ramets. It is suggested that transportation or sharing of stress signal may induce systemic resistance in root of interconnected ramets. Specially, transportation or sharing of stress signal against phloem flow was observed in the experiment. Possible explanation is that rapid recovery of foliar photosynthesis in first-young ramets subjected to exogenous ABA application can partially reverse phloem flow within clonal network. Thus, our experiment provides insight into ecological implication on clonal integration of stress signal.

RESUMO

Herein, we describe a Brønsted-acid-catalyzed enantioselective desymmetrization of 1,3-diols with alkynes through a hydroalkoxylation/hydrolysis process. The reaction leads to the atom-economical synthesis of valuable chiral ß-amino alcohols under mild reaction conditions. Further synthetic transformations based on the ß-amino alcohol moiety provide divergent approaches toward chiral N-containing heterocycles.

Different nutrient supply brings about changes in leaf stoichiometry, which may affect growth rate and primary production of plants. Invasion of alien plants is a severe threat to biodiversity and ecosystem worldwide. A pot experiment was conducted by using three stoloniferous alien plants Wedelia trilobata, Alternanther philoxeroides and Hydrocotyle vulgaris to investigate effects of nutrient supply on their leaf stoichiometry and relative growth rate. Different nitrogen or phosphorus supply was applied in the experiment (N1:1 mmol L-1, N2:4 mmol L-1, and N3:8 mmol L-1, P1:0.15 mmol L-1, P2:0.6 mmol L-1 and P3:1.2 mmol L-1). Nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in leaves of the three alien plants significantly increased with increase of nitrogen supply. With increase of phosphorus supply, nitrogen or phosphorus concentration of leaf was complex among the three alien plants. N:P ratio in leaf of the three alien plants subjected to different levels of nutrient supply was various. A positive correlation between relative growth rate and N:P ratio of the leaf is observed in W. trilobata and A. philoxeroides suffering from N-limitation. A similar pattern was not observed in Hydrocotyle vulgaris. We tentatively concluded that correlations between relative growth rate and N: P ratio of the leaf could be affected by species as well as nutrient supply. It is suggested that human activities, invasive history, local abundance of species et al maybe play an important role in the invasion of alien plants as well as relative growth rate.

In the summer of 2019, field measurements of ozone (O3) and its precursors[volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and nitrogen oxides (NOx)] were carried out at an urban site in Ji'nan. We found that the daily maximum 8-hour averages φ(O3) were (103.0±14.5)×10-9. The average φ(NOx) and φ(VOCs), which are ozone precursors, were (16.7±11.3)×10-9and (22.4±9.4)×10-9, respectively. The ·OH reactivity of VOCs was determined (9.6±3.8) s-1. Ji'nan suffered from serious O3 pollution. An observation-constrained chemical box model was deployed to evaluate in situ photochemical O3 production, which indicated that chemical reactions made positive contributions to O3 production rates between 07:00 and 19:00 LT, with the average hourly O3 production rate of 35.6×10-9 h-1. To evaluate the effectiveness of various ozone precursor control strategies in reducing ozone pollution, we combined the observation-based model (OBM) with the relative incremental reactivity (RIR) method. The key indicators that affect the local ozone production rate were identified. Ji'nan was under VOC-limited conditions and the key VOC precursors were alkenes. The O3 formation mechanism changed from the VOC-limited regime in the morning to the transitional regime in the afternoon. Correspondingly, the simulated local O3 production rate was increased from 18.3×10-9 h-1 to 29.6×10-9 h-1. To further explore the role of anthropogenic emissions in ozone pollution, we used the positive matrix factorization (PMF) model to identify the major sources contributing to VOCs. The major sources in Ji'nan were vehicular exhaust and gasoline evaporation, accounting for more than 50% of the observed VOCs. Therefore, constraints on vehicular emissions is the most effective strategy to control O3 pollution in Ji'nan.

RESUMO

Transition-metal-catalyzed Si-H bond insertion reactions are generally limited to stabilized diazo compounds. An efficient copper-catalyzed Si-H bond insertion reaction of N-propargyl ynamides with hydrosilanes is described, allowing practical and atom-economic construction of valuable organosilanes in generally moderate to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. Notably, this reaction constitutes a new method of Si-H bond insertion reaction involving vinyl cations as key intermediates.

Objective: To explore the value of the assessment of plasma trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) combined with N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) on predicting the all-cause mortality, length of hospitalization, and hospital cost in ischemic heart failure (IHF) patients. Methods: This prospective cohort study included 189 patients (157 males, mean age (64.0±10.5) years) with a left ventricular ejection fraction<45% caused by coronary artery disease, who hospitalized in our department from March 2016 to December 2020. Baseline data, including demographics, comorbid conditions and laboratory examination, were analyzed. The cumulative rate of all-cause mortality was evaluated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared between the groups according to the log-rank test. Relative risks were reported as hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI) calculated using the Cox proportional-hazards analysis, with stepwise adjustment for covariables. Spearman correlation analysis was then performed to determine the relationship between TMAO combined with NT-proBNP and length of hospitalization and hospital cost. Results: There were 50 patients in the low TMAO+low NT-proBNP group, 89 patients in high TMAO or high NT-proBNP group, 50 patients in high TMAO+high NT-proBNP group. The mean follow-up period was 3.0 years. Death occurred in 70 patients (37.0%), 27 patients (54.0%) in high TMAO+high NT-proBNP group, 29 patients (32.6%) in high TMAO or high NT-proBNP group and 14 patients (28.0%) in low TMAO+low NT-proBNP group. TMAO, in combination with NT-proBNP, improved all-cause mortality prediction in IHF patients when stratified as none, one or both biomarker(s) elevation, with the highest risk of all-cause mortality in high TMAO+high NT-proBNP group (HR=3.62, 95%CI 1.89-6.96, P<0.001). ROC curve analysis further confirmed that TMAO combined with NT-proBNP strengthened the prediction performance on the risk of all-cause death (AUC=0.727(95%CI 0.640-0.813), sensitivity 55.0%, characteristic 83.1%). Spearman correlation analysis showed that IHF patients with high TMAO and high NT-proBNP were positively associated with longer duration of hospitalization (r=0.191,P=0.009), but not associated with higher hospital cost (r=0.030, P=0.686). Conclusions: TMAO combined with NT-proBNP are valuable prediction tool on risk stratification of patients with IHF, and those with two biomarkers elevation face the highest risk of mortality during follow-up period, and are associated with the longer hospital stay.

AIM: Chronic skin disease (CSD) often has devastating effects on the physiological, psychological and social aspects of patients, who must adapt to them. However, it is not clear how patients adapt, especially with regard to their psychosocial adaptation (PSA). This research explored a theoretical model of PSA among people with CSD. DESIGN: Following constructivist grounded theory methodology, a qualitative study was undertaken between August 2018 and June 2019. METHODS: Observation and semi-structured interview were conducted with included participants (n=19). Data were iteratively coded and analyzed by constant comparison following the key stages of initial, focused, axial and theoretical coding until saturation was achieved. RESULTS: When individuals face the impacts of disease, they try to adjust to adapt it. The findings showed the core category (self-cognitive) and the contributing categories (impacts of chronic skin disease, contextual factors, physiological experiences, psychological experiences, social experiences, and positive and negative psychosocial adaptations) of the PSA among people with CSD. The process of PSA among people with CSD was not linear throughout the disease and was instead entwined within a set of complexes (contextual factors-experience) interactions. The consequences of PSA included positive and negative aspects. The theoretical model of PSA among people with CSD will provide us with information needed to develop accurate assessment and effective intervention strategies. Understanding that PSA among people with CSD is a complex, dynamic, and interactional process may provide evidence for further assessing and meeting the needs of people.

BACKGROUND: Paeonia lactiflora 'Hangshao' is widely cultivated in China as a traditional Chinese medicine 'Radix Paeoniae Alba'. Due to the abundant unsaturated fatty acids in its seed, it can also be regarded as a new oilseed plant. However, the process of the biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids in it has remained unknown. Therefore, transcriptome analysis is helpful to better understand the underlying molecular mechanisms. RESULTS: Five main fatty acids were detected, including stearic acid, palmitic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid and α-linolenic acid, and their absolute contents first increased and then decreased during seed development. A total of 150,156 unigenes were obtained by transcriptome sequencing. There were 15,005 unigenes annotated in the seven functional databases, including NR, NT, GO, KOG, KEGG, Swiss-Prot and InterPro. Based on the KEGG database, 1766 unigenes were annotated in the lipid metabolism. There were 4635, 12,304, and 18,291 DEGs in Group I (60 vs 30 DAF), Group II (90 vs 60 DAF) and Group III (90 vs 30 DAF), respectively. A total of 1480 DEGs were detected in the intersection of the three groups. In 14 KEGG pathways of lipid metabolism, 503 DEGs were found, belonging to 111 enzymes. We screened out 123 DEGs involved in fatty acid biosynthesis (39 DEGs), fatty acid elongation (33 DEGs), biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acid (24 DEGs), TAG assembly (17 DEGs) and lipid storage (10 DEGs). Furthermore, qRT-PCR was used to analyze the expression patterns of 16 genes, including BBCP, BC, MCAT, KASIII, KASII, FATA, FATB, KCR, SAD, FAD2, FAD3, FAD7, GPAT, DGAT, OLE and CLO, most of which showed the highest expression at 45 DAF, except for DGAT, OLE and CLO, which showed the highest expression at 75 DAF. CONCLUSIONS: We predicted that MCAT, KASIII, FATA, SAD, FAD2, FAD3, DGAT and OLE were the key genes in the unsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis and oil accumulation in herbaceous peony seed. This study provides the first comprehensive genomic resources characterizing herbaceous peony seed gene expression at the transcriptional level. These data lay the foundation for elucidating the molecular mechanisms of fatty acid biosynthesis and oil accumulation for herbaceous peony.

Objective To analyze the statistical behavior of plantar pressure distribution, extract the characteristics of foot movement, and provide references for application of gait recognition in medical clinical diagnosis, rehabilitation training and public health. Methods The collected foot pressure data were prepossessed, statistical analysis on the data was performed, the footprint reconstruction was realized, and the pressure distribution rates of the footprints, segmented regions and each region were compared and analyzed, so as to decompose the foot motion characteristics. Results Based on the cross point of pressure peak curve in different regions, the plantar region was divided into toe region, metatarsal region, arch region and heel region, which could accurately extract the foot movement characteristics. Conclusions The peak plantar pressure is used to extract the characteristics of foot movement, which is divided into landing stage, whole foot contact stage, heel tiptoe stage and ground off stage.

OBJECTIVE: Despite the proven benefits of adjuvant endocrine therapy, adherence to oral endocrine therapy in breast cancer treatment is a substantial problem. The aim of this study was to assess adherence to adjuvant endocrine therapy by women in China for the first 5 years, and to identify its influencing factors. METHODS: Stratified sampling method was adopted to select 1875 cases of breast cancer patients for cross-sectional telephone follow-up. Compliance to medications was assessed using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale. Status of endocrine therapy was assessed using nine additional questions. Binomial regression was used when assessing the factors associated with persistence, multinomial regression models were used to assess factors associated with compliance. RESULTS: Of 888 patients who started adjuvant endocrine therapy, 769(86.6%) persisted and 119 (13.4%) discontinued. 760 patients who completed Morisky Medication Adherence Scale, the compliance was 7.4% low, 42% medium, and 50.6% high. The type of medication, duration of medication and side effects had an impact both on persistence and compliance. Age, history of radiotherapy and caregivers only had an impact on persistence. CONCLUSIONS: Medication adherence was affected by many factors. Special attention and interventions should be given to women taking tamoxifen in the 2nd to 3rd year of medication, and aromatase inhibitors in the 1st to 2nd year. Further prospective design studies are needed to explore effective measures to improve medication adherence of women with breast cancer treated by endocrine therapy.

AIMS: To explore the experience and feelings associated with the endocrine therapy treatment trajectory in women with breast cancer and what affects medication taking behaviour. DESIGN: Qualitative systematic review. DATA SOURCES: Qualitative studies were extracted from PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO from inception of each database until February 2019. REVIEW METHODS: The systematic search method SPIDER (sample, phenomenon of interest, design, evaluation, research type) was used. Thematic synthesis of the qualitative data was used. RESULTS: A total of 478 were identified in the initial search. Only 17 articles met inclusion criteria and were included in this review. Five analytical themes and 17 descriptive subthemes were identified. CONCLUSIONS: The systematic review highlights knowledge, balancing the scales, self-efficacy and support influence medication taking behaviour to women with breast cancer. IMPACT: The medication taking behaviour of breast cancer women can be classified into four types: acceptance/persistence, bearing/suffering, hesitation/adjustment, refusing/abandoning. The four types can switch from one to another. Medication taking behaviour is affected by knowledge, balancing the scales, self-efficacy, and support. The medical institutions, communities, and families can gain knowledge of the treatment experiences of women to better understand medication taking behaviour and those at risk for non-adherence. Women wanted different types and amounts of information. Healthcare providers should be aware of patient preferences and take targeted interventions to help them receive treatment.

BACKGROUND: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a common disease with high morbidity and mortality around the world. The aim of this research was to determine the differentially expressed genes (DEGs), which may serve as potential therapeutic targets or new biomarkers in AMI. METHODS: From the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, three gene expression profiles (GSE775, GSE19322, and GSE97494) were downloaded. To identify the DEGs, integrated bioinformatics analysis and robust rank aggregation (RRA) method were applied. These DEGs were performed through Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses by using Clusterprofiler package. In order to explore the correlation between these DEGs, the interaction network of protein-protein internet (PPI) was constructed using the STRING database. Utilizing the MCODE plug-in of Cytoscape, the module analysis was performed. Utilizing the cytoHubba plug-in, the hub genes were screened out. RESULTS: 57 DEGs in total were identified, including 2 down- and 55 upregulated genes. These DEGs were mainly enriched in cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction, chemokine signaling pathway, TNF signaling pathway, and so on. The module analysis filtered out 18 key genes, including Cxcl5, Arg1, Cxcl1, Spp1, Selp, Ptx3, Tnfaip6, Mmp8, Serpine1, Ptgs2, Il6, Il1r2, Il1b, Ccl3, Ccr1, Hmox1, Cxcl2, and Ccl2. Ccr1 was the most fundamental gene in PPI network. 4 hub genes in total were identified, including Cxcl1, Cxcl2, Cxcl5, and Mmp8. CONCLUSION: This study may provide credible molecular biomarkers in terms of screening, diagnosis, and prognosis for AMI. Meanwhile, it also serves as a basis for exploring new therapeutic target for AMI.

BACKGROUND: Skin disease is a global public health problem that often has physiological, psychological and social impacts. However, it is not very clear how to adapt to these impacts, especially psychosocial adaptation of patients with skin disease. METHODS: We searched EMBASE, PubMed, CINAHL and PsycINFO from 2009 to 2018. The following themes were extracted from the included articles: the concepts, related factors, and interventions for psychosocial adaptation of patients with skin disease. Two reviewers independently screened and analyzed. RESULTS: From 2261 initial records, 69 studies were identified and analyzed. The concept of psychosocial adaptation in patients with skin disease was referred to under an assortment of descriptions. The related factors for psychosocial adaptation in patients with skin disease included the following: demographic factors (sex, age, education level, ethnicity, BMI, sleep quality, marital status, exercise amount, family history, the use of topical treatment only, personality and history of smoking); disease-related factors (disease severity, clinical symptoms, localization and duration); psychological factors (anxiety/depression, self-esteem, body image, stigma and suicidal ideation); and social factors (social support, social interaction, sexual life, economic burden and social acceptance). Despite being limited in quantity, several studies have clarified the benefits of adjuvant care in the form of cognitive behavioral training, educational training and self-help programs, all of which have become common methods for dealing with the psychosocial impacts. CONCLUSIONS: Based on the previous literatures, we constructed a protocol of care model for psychosocial adaptation in patients with skin disease. It not only provided the direction for developing new instruments that could assess psychosocial adaptation statue, but also a basis for helping patients adjust to changes in skin disease.

Malignant arrhythmia is a fast cardiac arrhythmia that can lead to a hemodynamic abnormality within a short time, most of which is ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation (VF), which should be managed in time. Both organic and nonorganic cardiac diseases have the potential to cause malignant arrhythmia. We report a noteworthy case of malignant arrhythmia in a teenager during exercise. Transthoracic echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), electrophysiological study, magnetic resonance imaging of the brain, electroencephalography, chest X-ray, and blood tests were all normal. Twelve-lead electrocardiography showed incomplete right bundle branch block (IRBBB). Two heterozygous missense variants of the desmocollin-2 gene (DSC2, c.G2446A/p.V816M) and desmoplakin gene (DSP, c.G3620A/p.R1207K) were detected in the peripheral blood of this teenager and his father by genetic testing, which encoded a desmosomal protein that was related to arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC). In these two rare variants, DSC2 V816M has been reported but uncertain significance, whereas DSP R1207K is never reported. Therefore, the two site variants in DSC2 and DSP genes are likely to become a new research focus for diagnosis and treatment of ARVC in the future. Meanwhile, this report emphasizes that, in addition to a standard set of laboratory tests and examinations, genetic testing may be useful for analyzing the causes of malignant arrhythmia.

Herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) is an excellent ornamental plant, which is usually stressed by summer high temperatures, but little is known about its relevant measures. In this study, the effects of trehalose on alleviating high temperature-induced damage in P. lactiflora were examined. High temperature stress in P. lactiflora increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), including superoxide anion free radical (O2·-) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), enhanced both malondialdehyde (MDA) content and relative electrical conductivity (REC), decreased superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, increased catalase (CAT) activity, inhibited photosynthesis, and destroyed cell structure. However, exogenous trehalose effectively alleviated its high temperature-induced damage. Trehalose decreased O2·- and H2O2 accumulation, MDA content, and REC, increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes, enhanced photosynthesis, improved cell structure, and made chloroplasts rounder. Additionally, trehalose induced high temperature-tolerant-related gene expressions to different degrees. These results indicated that trehalose decreased the deleterious effect of high temperature stress on P. lactiflora growth by enhancing antioxidant systems, activating photosynthesis, and protecting cell structure. These findings indicate the potential application of trehalose for managing high temperatures in P. lactiflora cultivation.

Herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) is particularly appreciated because of its elegant and gorgeous flower color, but little is known about the underlying mechanisms of flower coloration. In this study, three P. lactiflora cultivars 'Xuefeng', 'Fenyulou' and 'Dahonglou' with white, pink and red flower were selected as the materials. Their anatomical structures, cell sap pH and metal elements were investigated, and the colored pigment mainly distributed in palisade mesophyll was only found in 'Fenyulou' and 'Dahonglou', and their shape of epidermal cells, cell sap pH and metal elements were not the key factors deciding phenotype color. Moreover, the qualitative and quantitative analysis of flavonoids were performed, their total anthocyanin, anthoxanthin and flavonoid contents were decreased during flower development, and only anthocyanin content in 'Dahonglou' was always higher than that in 'Xuefeng' and 'Fenyulou'. Subsequently, three anthocyanin compositions were found, and peonidin 3,5-di-O-glucoside (Pn3G5G) was identified as the main anthocyanin composition. In addition, the full-length of flavonol synthase gene (FLS) was isolated with the GenBank accession number KM259902, and the expression patterns of eight flavonoid biosynthetic genes showed that only PlDFR and PlANS basically had the highest levels in 'Dahonglou' and the lowest levels in 'Xuefeng', and they basically displayed a descended trend during flower development especially PlDFR, suggesting that these two genes might play a key role in the anthocyanin biosynthesis which resulted in the shift from white to pink and red in flowers. These results would contribute to understand the underlying molecular mechanisms of flower coloration in P. lactiflora.

Objective To compare volumetric‐modulated arc therapy(VMAT) with intensity‐modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for brain metastases with regard to the dosimetric character .Methods Sixty patients who were diagnosed with brain me‐tastases were included in this study .The target area received two dose levels using late addition amount technique ,WBRT (30 Gy/10 F) with following addition (20 Gy/10 F) to 59 Gy .For a fair comparison ,VMAT and IMRT treatment plans were respectively designed for every patient with the same dosimetric constraints .Dosimetric comparisons between VMAT and IMRT plans were ana‐lyzed to evaluate :target coverage and homogeneity ,conformity of PTV ;sparing of OARs ;monitor units (MUs) .Results Two treatment plans all reached the treatment need .When compared with IMRT ,there was no significant difference in Dmean of eyeball , len ,optic never ,visual chiasma ,parotid ,brain stem ,and external auditory canal of VMAT (P>0 .05) .The Dmax of eyeball ,len ,pa‐rotid ,and external auditory canal of VMAT were lower than that in IMRT group (P<0 .05) .The VMAT group has the less MUs (P=0 .017) and less treatment time .Conclusion VMAT can reach the big‐dose radiotherapy need on brain metastases clinically . There are no significant diffference between VMAT and IMRT on Dmax ,Dmean ,CI ,and HI .The Dmax of eyeball ,len ,parotid ,and external auditory canal of VMAT were lower than that in IMRT group .The VMAT can reduce the radiotherapy time .

Objective To study the effect of the uncertain deflection of the Delta4 phantom (ScandiDos AB,Sweden) in setting up on the Gamma index passing rate during the VMAT plan verification.Methods Two patients with head and neck cancer,two with lung cancers and one with pelvic cancer receiving VMAT radiotherapy were randomly chosen.By means of Eclipse8.6 TPS the treatment plans elaborated for the five patients were picked up to make the verification plans and Delta4 was used to perform dose verification On VARIAN Clinac Ⅸ.The Delta4 phantom was precisely set up first,and then it was deflected in a given angle towards the horizontal direction in relation to the center of the linear accelerator isocenter to perform the dose verification for 11 times successively.To figure out the relationship between the deflection angle of the Delta4 phantom and the Gamma index passing rate.Results As the Delta4 phantom was deflected by 0.0°,0.2°,0.4°,0.6°,0.8°,1.0°,1.2°,1.4°,1.6°,1.8° and 2.0° in sequence,the measured Gamma index passing rates presented a slight decline,but all greater than 90% (DD 3%,DTA 3 mm).Conclusions In the VMAT plan verification,the Gamma index passing rate of Delta4 has no dependence on the uncertain deflection of the Delta4 phantom provided that the uncertain deflection of the Delta4 phantom is no greater than 2°,but the passing rates of DD and DTA vary significantly with the uncertain deflection of the Delta4 phantom.

During the initial phase of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, serum HBV DNA levels are high. Contrarily, fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma have been found in patients with lower serum HBV DNA levels. The aim of this study is to clarify HBV DNA level dynamics of serum apportioned by the same hepatic parenchyma cell volume (HPCV) in hepatic fibrosis stages 1-4 during the natural history of chronic hepatitis B. Serum HBV DNA levels were evaluated by real-time polymerase chain reaction. Further, serum HBV DNA levels were apportioned by and compared with the same HPCV in hepatic fibrosis stages 1-4, respectively. Serum HBV DNA levels were 8.91 x 10(6) +/- 4.37 x 10(1), 8.13 x 10(6) +/- 7.41 x 10(1), 9.55 x 10(5) +/- 1.02 x 10(2), and 4.07 x 10(5) +/- 7.24 x 10(1) copies/ml, respectively; there were differences among hepatic fibrosis stages 1-4 (p < 0.021-0.000). However, serum HBV DNA levels apportioned by the same volume of hepatic parenchyma cells in hepatic fibrosis stages 1-4 were 3.47 x 10(10) +/- 8.71 x 10(2), 1.02 x 10(11) +/- 9.55 x 10(2), 1.41 x 10(10) +/- 2.57 x 10(3), and 3.72 x 10(10) +/- 3.02 x 10(3) with HPCV proportions 65.9, 62.7, 58.9, and 53.3%, respectively; there were no differences among hepatic fibrosis stages 1-4 (p > 0.203-0.967).Following the progression of hepatic fibrosis from stage 1 to 4, ongoing decline of HPCV is responsible for a declining trend of serum HBV DNA levels.
