[Regulatory genes of garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) controlling the development of nitrogen-fixing nodules and arbuscular mycorrhiza: a review of basic and applied aspects].

The review sums up the long experience of the authors and other researchers in studying the genetic system of garden pea (Pisum sativum L.), which controls sthe development of nitrogen-fixing symbiosis and arbuscular mycorrhiza. A justified phenotypic classification of pea mutants is presented. Progress in identifying and cloning symbiotic genes is adequately reflected. The feasibility of using double inoculation as a means of increasing the plant productivity is demonstrated, in which the potential of a tripartite symbiotic system (pea plants-root nodule bacteria-arbuscular mycorrhiza) is mobilized.

InAsSb/InAsSbP double heterostructure lasers for 3-4 micrometer spectral range.

InAsSb/InAsSbP double heterostructure diode lasers for the spectral range of 3-4 microm grown by liquid phase epitaxy have been investigated. The laser tuning was studied as a function of the stripe width. The temperature and current tuning of such lasers was measured. Emission spectra, far-field patterns and wavelength tuning versus current have been studied in the wide current range from threshold, Ith, up to 6Ith at liquid nitrogen temperature. Current wavelength tuning in single-mode lasing has been obtained both towards the shorter wavelengths (up to 4.56 cm-1) and towards the longer wavelengths (up to 0.9 cm-1) at the temperature T=77K. Comparison of the emission properties of the lasers, driven by different types of current pulses showed the same quantum-mechanical nature of current tuning. The theoretical model of this nonlinear optical phenomenon is proposed. The estimated times of current tuning defined mainly by the photon lifetime in the cavity are about 10(-9) to 10(-12) s. The emission line-width was determined to be 20 MHz. Optimal conditions were found for the use of the lasers and were employed for the detection of NH3, CH3Cl, OCS and atmospheric water.

[Structuro-functional properties of staphylococci in patients with pyoderma]. / Strukturno-funktsional'nye osobennosti stafilokokkov u bol'nykh piodermiami.

Electron-microscopic and ultra-cytochemical studies have shown the structural and functional features of pyoderma agents--staphylococci isolated from patients with acute and chronic pyoderma. The studies have revealed magnesium-activated ATPase and adenylate cyclase in these bacteria; the authors have tried to trace a correlation between these enzymes' activities and location and the disease pattern. This may help assess the bacterial population status and choose the drugs for purposeful pathogenetic therapy.

[Experience in using a tomicide paste in the combined treatment of patients with pyoderma]. / Opyt primeneniia tomitsidovoi pasty v kompleksnoi terapii bol'nykh piodermiiami.

Tomicide paste is a highly effective agent in combined therapy of patients with primary and secondary pyoderma. Tomicide is recommended for practical dermatology in the liquid form for sanitization++ of infection foci in nasopharyngeal organs and in paste with a 10% concentration of the agent. This paste is also advised for cases with secondary pyoderma complicating the course of neurodermatitis and chronic eczema not liable to weeping.

[Ultrastructure and cytochemical indices of lymphocytes from donors immunized with the rhesus-system antigen D(RhO)]. / Izuchenie ul'trastruktury i tsitokhimicheskikh pokazatelei limfotsitov donorov, immunizirovannykh antigenom D(RhO) sistemy rezus.

Distinctive metabolic and ultrastructural features have been found in peripheral blood lymphocytes of the donors underwent immunization with D(RhO) antigen. The degree of changes in the lymphocytes correlated well with the extent of immune responsiveness to the antigen in question.
