RESUMO

There is increased reliance on newly licensed nurses to fill open healthcare positions. Nurse residency programs (NRPs) provide the training, mentorship, and support newly licensed nurses require to successfully transition to professional practice. Research suggests that NRPs improve nurse retention, clinical outcomes, and organizational outcomes. Sufficient NRP full-time equivalents are needed to ensure adequate support and program management. This article describes how a Colorado hospital system secured additional NRP Coordinator full-time equivalent using a six-step process.

RESUMO

Prior studies assessing workplace violence educational interventions have found positive outcomes including increased frontline staff confidence and reduced restraint utilization. An electronic, evidenced-based educational module was provided to frontline staff across a large healthcare system in response to a gap found during analysis of workplace violence prevention initiatives. This quality improvement project found that education can be feasibly implemented across large healthcare organizations to improve frontline staff vigilance and awareness of workplace violence risks.

RESUMO

Rapid response is a common term in hospital settings, reflecting immediate clinical response to a critical challenge. In preparation for the oncoming pandemic of novel coronavirus 2019, nurse leaders within a large health system in the Mountain West region implemented a rapid response to prepare nondirect care registered nurses for deployment to the bedside. This article highlights the prompt action, organization, and implementation of this process, as well as the lessons learned for future events.
