RESUMO

Covid-19 has spurred a renewed interest in decontamination techniques for air, objects and surfaces. Beginning in 2020, urgent effort was done to permit the reuse of UV-C for inactivating SARS-CoV-2. However, those studies diverged widely on the dose necessary to reach this goal; until today, the real value of the sensitivity of the virus to a 254-nm illumination is not known precisely. In this study, decontamination was performed in an original UV-C large decontamination chamber (UVCab, ON-LIGHT, France) delivering an omnidirectional irradiation with an average dose of 50 mJ/cm2 in 60 s. Viral inactivation was checked by both cell culture and PCR test. SARS-CoV-2 was inactivated by UV-C light within 3 s on both porous (disposable gown) and non-porous (stainless steel and apron) surfaces. For the porous surface, an irradiation of 5 min was needed to achieve a completely negative PCR signal. The Z value estimating the sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2 to UV-C in the experimental conditions of our cabinet was shown to be > 0.5820 m2/J. These results illustrate the ability of this apparatus to inactivate rapidly and definitively high loads of SARS-CoV-2 deposited on porous or non-porous supports and opens new perspectives on material decontamination using UV-C.

RESUMO

In this work, we report the solvothermal synthesis of Ce-doped YAG (YAG:Ce) nanoparticles (NPs) and their association with a free-Cd CuInS2/ZnS (CIS/ZnS) core/shell QDs for application into white light emitting diode (WLED). 1500 °C-annealed YAG:Ce NPs and CIS/ZnS core/shell QDs exhibited intense yellow and red emissions band with maxima at 545 and 667 nm, respectively. Both YAG:Ce nanophosphor and CIS/ZnS QDs showed high photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) of about 50% upon 460 nm excitation. YAG:Ce nanophosphor layer and bilayered YAG:Ce nanophosphor-CIS/ZnS QDs were applied on blue InGaN chip as converter wavelength to achieve WLED. While YAG:Ce nanophosphor converter layer showed low color rendering index (CRI) and cold white light, bilayered YAG:Ce nanophosphor-CIS/ZnS QDs displayed higher CRI of about 84 and warm white light with a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 2784 K. WLED characteristics were measured as a function of forward current from 20 to 1200 mA. The white light stability of bilayered nanophosphor-QDs-based WLED operated at 200 mA was also studied as a function of operating time up to 40 h. Interestingly, CRI and CCT of such device tend to remain constant after 7 h of operating time suggesting that layer-by-layer structure of YAG:Ce phosphor and red-emitting CIS/ZnS QDs could be a good solution to achieve stable warm WLED, especially when high current density is applied.

RESUMO

Polydiacetylenes (PDAs) are exceptional polymeric materials with pi-conjugated backbones. Several of them can undergo chromogenic transitions under a wide range of external stimuli. Herein we investigate the electronic structure and the resulting properties of model and experimental PDAs, by means of first principles condensed matter calculations. It is shown that torsional isomers with a twist of the lateral groups can be formed at small energetic costs. We also show the relationship that exists between these twists and the observed changes in the electronic and physical properties. In particular, the calculated changes in the absorption, Raman and NMR spectra agree with the color and property changes as observed experimentally. Therefore, these isomers are excellent models for the structures involved in the chromogenic transitions.
