RESUMO

In this Letter, we present a portable all-fiber fluorescent detection system based on metal-lined hollow-core fiber (MLHCF) for the ultra-sensitive real-time monitoring of mercury ions (Hg2+). The system employs a rhodamine derivative as the probe. The hollow core of the MLHCF serves as both the flow channel of the liquid sample and the waveguide of the optical path. The metal coating in the intermediate layer between the capillary and the polyimide (PI) coating in the MLHCF provides good light confinement, enhancing the interaction between the sample and the incident light for better fluorescence excitation and collection efficiency. Additionally, further enhancement is achieved by placing an inserted filter along the light path to reflect the excitation light back to the MLHCF. A 3-cm length of MLHCF enables simultaneous excitation of a 40-µL sample volume and collection of most of its fluorescent signal in all directions, thereby significantly contributing to its exceptional sensitivity with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.3 ng/L. The all-fiber fluorescence-enhanced detection device also shows rapid response time, excellent reusability, and selectivity. This system presents an online, reproducible, and portable solution for the trace detection of Hg2+ and provides a promising way for detecting other heavy metal ions.

RESUMO

Genetically engineered stem cells, not only acting as vector delivering growth factors or cytokines but also exhibiting improved cell properties, are promising cells for periodontal tissue regeneration. Sema3A is a power secretory osteoprotective factor. In this study, we aimed to construct Sema3A modified periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) and evaluated their osteogenic capability and crosstalk with pre-osteoblasts MC3T3-E1. First, Sema3A modified PDLSCs was constructed using lentivirus infection system carrying Sema3A gene and the transduction efficiency was analyzed. The osteogenic differentiation and proliferation of Sema3A-PDLSCs was evaluated. Then, MC3T3-E1 was directly co-cultured with Sema3A-PDLSCs or cultured in condition medium of Sema3A-PDLSCs and the osteogenic ability of MC3T3-E1 was assessed. The results showed that Sema3A-PDLSCs expressed and secreted upregulated Sema3A protein, which confirmed successful construction of Sema3A modified PDLSCs. After osteogenic induction, Sema3A-PDLSCs expressed upregulated ALP, OCN, RUNX2, and SP7 mRNA, expressed higher ALP activity, and produced more mineralization nodes, compared with Vector-PDLSCs. Whereas, there was no obvious differences in proliferation between Sema3A-PDLSCs and Vector-PDLSCs. MC3T3-E1 expressed upregulated mRNA of ALP, OCN, RUNX2, and SP7 when directly co-cultured with Sema3A-PDLSCs than Vector-PDLSCs. MC3T3-E1 also expressed upregulated osteogenic markers, showed higher ALP activity, and produced more mineralization nodes when cultured using condition medium of Sema3A-PDLSCs instead of Vector-PDLSCs. In conclusion, our results indicated that Sema3A modified PDLSCs showed enhanced osteogenic capability, and also facilitated differentiation of pre-osteoblasts.

RESUMO

High spin-injection-efficiency (SIE) and thermal spin-filter-effect (SFE) from a magnetic material to a barrier material are crucial to the high performance of a spintronic device and a spin caloritronic device, respectively. By performing a nonequilibrium Green's function combined with first-principles calculations, we study the voltage-driven and temperature-driven spin transport properties of a half Heusler alloy RuCrAs based spin valve with different atom-terminated interfaces. The spin valve with a CrAs-top (or Ru-top) interface structure has an ultrahigh equilibrium magnetoresistance (MR) ratio of ∼1.56 × 109% (or ∼5.14 × 108%), ∼100% SIE, a large MR ratio, and high spin current intensity under bias voltage, suggesting that it has a great potential application in spintronic devices. The spin valve with the CrAs-top (or CrAs-bri) interface structure has a perfect SFE due to its very high spin polarization of temperature-driven currents, and it is useful in spin caloritronic devices.

RESUMO

Identifying spatiotemporal variation patterns and predicting future water quality are critical for rational and effective surface water management. In this study, an exploratory analysis and forecast workflow for water quality in Pearl River, Guangzhou, China, was established based on the 4-h interval dataset selected from 10 stations for water quality monitoring from 2019 to 2021. The multiple statistical techniques, such as cluster analysis (CA), principal component analysis (PCA), correlation analysis (CoA), and redundancy analysis (RDA), as well as data-driven model (i.e., gated recurrent unit (GRU)), were applied for assessing and predicting the water quality in the basin. The investigated sampling stations were classified into 3 categories based on differences in water quality, i.e., low, moderate, and high pollution regions. The average water quality indexes (WQI) values ranged from 38.43 to 92.63. Nitrogen was the most dominant pollutant, with high TN concentrations of 0.81-7.67 mg/L. Surface runoff, atmospheric deposition, and anthropogenic activities were the major contributors affecting the spatiotemporal variations in water quality. The decline in river water quality during the wet season was mainly attributed to increased surface runoff and extensive human activities. Furthermore, the short-term prediction of river water quality was achieved using the GRU model. The result indicated that for both DLCK and DTJ stations, the WQI for the 5-day lead time were predicted with accuracies of 0.82; for the LXH station, the WQI for the 3-day lead time was forecasted with an accuracy of 0.83. The finding of this study will shed a light on an effective reference and systematic support for spatio-seasonal variation and prediction patterns of water quality.

RESUMO

A new subfamily of Heusler alloys, i.e. double half-Heusler alloys Mn2CoCrZ2 (Z = P, As), are investigated by employing density functional theory combined with the nonequilibrium Green's function. The calculations of their magnetic properties reveal that Mn2CoCrZ2 (Z = P, As) are half-metallic ferrimagnets. Mn2CoCrP2 possesses an indirect spin-down bandgap of 0.671 eV and maintains half-metallicity with the lattice constant ratio c/a ranging from 1.72 to 2.40, while Mn2CoCrAs2 owns a direct spin-down bandgap of 0.993 eV and maintains half-metallicity with c/a ranging from 1.5 to 2.5. By employing Mn2CoCrZ2 as the electrodes and GaAs as the tunnel barrier, two kinds of magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJs) are constructed. When two electrodes of MTJs are in parallel magnetic configuration, the spin-up electrons have strong transmission ability, while the transmission ability of spin-down electrons is severely suppressed. When two electrodes of MTJs are in antiparallel magnetic configuration, the transmission ability of both spin-channel electrons is suppressed. The calculated tunnel magnetoresistance ratios of Mn2CoCrP2/GaAs/Mn2CoCrP2 and Mn2CoCrAs2/GaAs/Mn2CoCrAs2 MTJs reach up to 7.96 × 108 and 1.85 × 108, respectively, indicating that they are promising candidates for high performance spintronic devices.
