RESUMO

The aim of the study was to compare the intermediate-term (>24 months) clinical outcomes between anterior talofibular ligament repair using Broström operation with and without an internal brace. Nineteen patients underwent surgery using an arthroscopic traditional Broström repair with an internal brace technique (IB) and Eighteen patients underwent surgery using an arthroscopic traditional Broström repair without an internal brace technique (TB) . All patients were evaluated clinically using the Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS) and Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (FAAM). According to FAAM, sports activity scores of TB and IB groups were 83.33 ± 5.66 and 90.63 ± 6.21 at the final follow-up (p = .02). There were no significant differences in preoperative and postoperative stress radiographs between the two groups. Total medical expense was more in the IB group (p < .001). It also has a significant superiority in the terms of FAAM scores at sports activity. However, there was no difference during daily life.

PURPOSE: Morel-Lavallée lesion (MLL) is a closed soft-tissue degloving injurie resulting from shear forces. With the advent of endoscopic technology and advancements in surgical techniques, innovative solutions are now available. However, there are few data on mid-term results after treatment of MLL, especially regarding arthroscopic method. The objective of this study is to evaluate the clinical outcomes of endoscopic debridement combined with percutaneous cutaneo-fascial suture in treating MLL. METHODS: A single-center retrospective study was conducted at a university teaching hospital investigating patients who underwent arthroscopic management of Morel-Lavallée lesion between 2014 and 2020.Patient demographics, postoperative recovery time, peri- and postoperative complications were investigated. Mid-term follow up clinical and radiological examinations were performed. RESULTS: The retrospective study included 38 patients aged between 11 and 90 years, with an average age of 50.9 ± 16.9 years. These patients waited an average of 36.6±23.5days to return to work after operation. The average time to follow-up was from 3 to 9 years, averaging 5.0 ± 1.8 years. At the end of follow-up, only one complication of superficial skin necrosis occurred, accounting for 2.6%. The imaging assessment at the final follow-up indicated improvement over the postoperative period for all 38patients. CONCLUSION: In mid-term experience, endoscopic debridement combined with percutaneous cutaneo-fascial suture for MLL management is a safe and effective option.

Magnesium (Mg) alloys are widely used in bone fixation and bone repair as biodegradable bone-implant materials. However, their clinical application is limited due to their fast corrosion rate and poor mechanical stability. Here, the development of Mg-2Zn-0.5Ca-0.5Sr (MZCS) and Mg-2Zn-0.5Ca-0.5Zr (MZCZ) alloys with improved mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, cytocompatibility, osteogenesis performance, and antibacterial capability is reported. The hot-extruded (HE) MZCZ sample exhibits the highest ultimate tensile strength of 255.8 ± 2.4 MPa and the highest yield strength of 208.4 ± 2.8 MPa and an elongation of 15.7 ± 0.5%. The HE MZCS sample shows the highest corrosion resistance, with the lowest corrosion current density of 0.2 ± 0.1 µA cm-2 and the lowest corrosion rate of 4 ± 2 µm per year obtained from electrochemical testing, and a degradation rate of 368 µm per year and hydrogen evolution rate of 0.83 ± 0.03 mL cm-2 per day obtained from immersion testing. The MZCZ sample shows the highest cell viability in relation to MC3T3-E1 cells among all alloy extracts, indicating good cytocompatibility except at 25% concentration. Furthermore, the MZCZ alloy shows good antibacterial capability against Staphylococcus aureus.

Angiogenesis at the fracture site plays crucial roles in the endogenous osteogenesis process and is a prerequisite for the efficient repair of implant fixed bone defects. To improve the peri-implant vascularization of titanium implant for accelerating defect healing, we developed a Co-doped Mg-Al layered hydroxide coating on the surface of titanium using hydrothermal reaction and then modified the surface with gallic acid (Ti-LDH/GA). Gallic acid coating enabled the sustained release of Co2+ and Mg2+ to the defect site over a month. Ti-LDH/GA treatment profoundly stimulated the angiogenic potential of endothelial cells by upregulating the vascularization regulators such as vascular endothelial growth factor VEGF) and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), leading to enhanced osteogenic capability of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). These pro-bone healing benefits were attributed to the synergistic effects of Co ions and Mg ions in promoting angiogenesis and new bone formation. These insights collectively suggested the potent pro-osteogenic effect of Ti-LDH/GA through leveraging peri-implant vascularization, offering a new approach for developing biofunctional titanium implants.

Zinc (Zn) and some of its alloys are recognized as promising biodegradable implant materials due to their acceptable biocompatibility, facile processability, and moderate degradation rate. Nevertheless, the limited mechanical properties and stability of as-cast Zn alloys hinder their clinical application. In this work, hot-rolled (HR) and hot-extruded (HE) Zn-5 wt.% gadolinium (Zn-5Gd) samples were prepared by casting and respectively combining with hot rolling and hot extrusion for bone-implant applications. Their microstructure evolution, mechanical properties, corrosion behavior, cytotoxicity, antibacterial ability, and in vitro and in vivo osteogenesis were systematically evaluated. The HR and HE Zn-5Gd exhibited significantly improved mechanical properties compared with those of their pure Zn counterparts and the HR Zn-5Gd showed a unique combination of tensile properties with an ultimate tensile strength of ∼311.6 MPa, yield strength of ∼236.5 MPa, and elongation of ∼40.6%, all of which are greater than the mechanical properties required for bone-implant materials. The HR and HE Zn-5Gd showed higher corrosion resistance than their pure Zn counterpart in Hanks' solution and the HE Zn-5Gd had the lowest corrosion rate of 155 µm/y measured by electrochemical corrosion and degradation rate of 26.9 µm/y measured by immersion testing. The HR and HE Zn-5Gd showed high cytocompatibility toward MC3T3-E1 and MG-63 cells, high antibacterial effects against S. aureus, and better in vitro osteogenic activity than their pure Zn counterparts. Furthermore, the HE Zn-5Gd exhibited better in vivo biocompatibility, osteogenesis, and osteointegration ability than pure Zn and pure Ti. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: This work reports the mechanical properties, corrosion behaviors, cytocompatibility, antibacterial ability, in vitro and in vivo osteogenesis of biodegradable Zn-Gd alloy for bone-implant applications. Our findings demonstrate that the hot-rolled (HR) Zn-5Gd showed a unique combination of tensile properties with an ultimate tensile strength of ∼311.6 MPa, yield strength of ∼236.5 MPa, and elongation of ∼40.6%. The HR and HE Zn-5Gd showed higher corrosion resistance than their pure Zn counterpart in Hanks' solution. The HR and HE Zn-5Gd showed high cytocompatibility toward MC3T3-E1 and MG-63 cells, good antibacterial effects against S. aureus, and better in vitro osteogenic activity. Furthermore, the HE Zn-5Gd exhibited better in vivo biocompatibility, osteogenesis, and osteointegration ability than pure Zn and pure Ti.

Addressing the limitations arising from the consistent catalytic behavior observed for various intermediates during the electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2 RR) poses a significant challenge in the optimization of catalytic activity. In this study, we aimed to address this challenge by constructing an asymmetric coordination Fe single atom catalyst (SCA) with a dynamically evolved structure. Our catalyst, consisting of a Fe atom coordinated with one S atom and three N atoms (Fe-S1 N3 ), exhibited exceptional selectivity (CO Faradaic efficiency of 99.02 %) and demonstrated a high intrinsic activity (TOF of 7804.34 h-1 ), and remarkable stability. Using operando XAFS spectra and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, we elucidated the self-relaxation of geometric distortion and dynamic evolution of bond lengths within the catalyst. These structure changes enabled independent regulation of the *COOH and *CO intermediate adsorption energies, effectively breaking the linear scale relationship and enhancing the intrinsic activity of CO2 RR. This study provides valuable insights into the dynamic evolution of SACs and paves the way for targeted catalyst designs aimed to disrupt the linear scaling relationships.

Background: Although radioisotope (RI) combined with blue dye (BD) is the standard technique for sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy in breast cancer, the use of RI is limited at some institutions due to the specific equipment needed. Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence detection has been developed as a potential substitute for RI method. However, reports on the sensitivity of ICG and RI techniques in detecting SLN are inconsistent; hence, the present study was designed to compare the clinical efficacy between the combined method of ICG + BD (ICG-B) and RI + BD (RI-B). Methods: A prospective observational study was performed that identified 138 breast cancer patients who had undergone lymphatic mapping and SLN biopsy with ICG-B or RI-B. The SLN detection rate, positive SLN counts, and lymph node metastasis between the 2 groups were compared. Results: A total of 71 patients were recruited in the ICG-B group, while 67 were recruited in the RI-B group. The SLN detection rate was 100% in both the ICG-B and RI-B groups. Lymph node metastasis was found in 13 patients using ICG-B and in 12 patients using the RI-B technique (18.31% vs 17.91%, respectively; P = .61). No significant differences were observed in the positive SLN counts (3.12 ± 2.01 vs 3.33 ± 2.24, P = .37) between the 2 groups. Conclusions: Indocyanine green combined with BD has an equal efficacy compared with RI plus BD when performing an axillary SLN biopsy in breast cancer. The ICG plus BD procedure is a promising alternative to traditional standard mapping methods.

BACKGROUND: The implication of zinc finger protein 148 (ZNF-148) in pathophysiology of most human cancers has been reported; however, the biological functions of ZNF-148 in breast cancer remain unclear. This study sought to elucidate the potential molecular mechanism of ZNF-148 on breast cancer pathology. METHODS: ZNF148 expression was tested in breast cancer tissues and cells. Then, cells were transfected with ZNF-148 overexpression or downregulation vector, and the cell proliferation, pyroptosis, apoptosis, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production were analyzed by MTT, western blot, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence staining, respectively. Tumor-bearing nude mouse was used to evaluate tumorigenesis of ZNF-148. Mechanisms underpinning ZNF-148 were examined using bioinformatics and luciferase assays. RESULTS: We found that ZNF-148 was upregulated in breast cancer tissues and cell lines. Knockdown of ZNF-148 suppressed malignant phenotypes, including cell proliferation, epithelial-mesenchymal transition, and tumorigenesis in vitro and in vivo, while ZNF-148 overexpression had the opposite effects. Further experiments showed that ZNF-148 deficiency promoted ROS production and triggered both apoptotic and pyroptotic cell death, which were restored by cotreating cells with ROS scavengers. A luciferase reporter assay revealed that miR-335 was the downstream target of ZNF-148 and that overexpressed ZNF-148 increased superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2) expression by sponging miR-335. In parallel, both miR-335 downregulation and SOD2 overexpression abrogated the antitumor effects of ZNF-148 deficiency on proliferation and pyroptosis in breast cancer cells. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicated that ZNF-148 promotes breast cancer progression by triggering miR-335/SOD2/ROS-mediated pyroptotic cell death and aid the identification of potential therapeutic targets for breast cancer.

Osseointegration is an important indicator of implant success. This process can be improved by coating modified bioactive molecules with multiple functions on the surface of implants. Herein, a simple multifunctional coating that could effectively improve osseointegration was prepared through layer-by-layer self-assembly of cationic amino acids and tannic acid (TA), a negatively charged molecule. Osteogenic growth peptide (OGP) and the arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD) functional polypeptides were coupled with Lys6 (K6), the two polypeptides then self-assembled with TA layer by layer to form a composite film, (TA-OGP@RGD)n. The surface morphology and biomechanical properties of the coating were analyzed in gas and liquid phases, and the deposition process and kinetics of the two peptides onto TA were monitored using a quartz crystal microbalance. In addition, the feeding consistency and adsorption ratios of the two peptides were explored by using fluorescence visualization and quantification. The (TA-OGP@RGD)n composite membrane mediated the early migration and adhesion of cells and significantly promoted osteogenic differentiation and mineralization of the extracellular matrix in vitro. Additionally, the bifunctional peptide exhibited excellent osteogenesis and osseointegration owing to the synergistic effect of the OGP and RGD peptides in vivo. Simultaneously, the (TA-OGP@RGD)n membrane regulated the balance of reactive oxygen species in the cell growth environment, thereby influencing the complex biological process of osseointegration. Thus, the results of this study provide a novel perspective for constructing multifunctional coatings for implants and has considerable application potential in orthopedics and dentistry.

Electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR) involves a variety of intermediates with highly correlated reaction and ad-desorption energies, hindering optimization of the catalytic activity. For example, increasing the binding of the *COOH to the active site will generally increase the *CO desorption energy. Breaking this relationship may be expected to dramatically improve the intrinsic activity of CO2RR, but remains an unsolved challenge. Herein, we addressed this conundrum by constructing a unique atomic dispersed hetero-pair consisting of Mo-Fe di-atoms anchored on N-doped carbon carrier. This system shows an unprecedented CO2RR intrinsic activity with TOF of 3336 h-1, high selectivity toward CO production, Faradaic efficiency of 95.96% at - 0.60 V and excellent stability. Theoretical calculations show that the Mo-Fe diatomic sites increased the *COOH intermediate adsorption energy by bridging adsorption of *COOH intermediates. At the same time, d-d orbital coupling in the Mo-Fe di-atom results in electron delocalization and facilitates desorption of *CO intermediates. Thus, the undesirable correlation between these steps is broken. This work provides a promising approach, specifically the use of di-atoms, for breaking unfavorable relationships based on understanding of the catalytic mechanisms at the atomic scale.

Epithelial disruption is the initiation of most infectious disease. Regulation of epithelium apoptosis may play a key role in balance the survival competition between resident bacteria and host cells. The role of the mTOR/p70S6K pathway in preventing apoptosis of human gingival epithelial cells (hGECs) infected with Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) was investigated in order to further understand the survival strategy of the epithelial cells in during Pg infecting. hGECs was challenged with Pg for 4, 12, and 24 h. Additionally, hGECs was pretreated with LY294002 (PI3K signaling inhibitor) or Compound C (AMPK inhibitor) for 12 h and exposed them to Pg for 24 h. Subsequently, apoptosis was detected using flow cytometry, and expression and activity of Bcl-2, Bad, Bax, PI3K, AKT, AMPK, mTOR, and p70S6K proteins were analyzed using western blotting. Pg-infecting did not increase apoptosis of hGECs; but the expression ratio of Bad to Bcl-2 was increased after infecting. In contrast, BadSer136 phosphorylation was promoted, accompanied by a significant reduction of mTOR/p70S6K and PI3K/AKT signaling, along with the upregulation of AMPKThr172 signaling. Morrover, the PI3K inhibitor LY294002 promoted Pg-mediated reduction of mTOR/p70S6K expression, and the increase of AMPK signaling and BadSer136 phosphorylation rate, eventually decreasing apoptosis. While Compound C inhibited Pg-mediated activation of AMPK and downregulation of mTOR/p70S6K signaling, significantly reduced the BadSer136 phosphorylation rate, thereby increasing apoptosis. Thus, hGECs prevent apoptosis via an inherent cellular-homeostasis, pro-survival mechanism during Pg infection, the AMPK/mTOR/p70S6K pathway helps prevent apoptosis in hGECs infected with Pg by regulating BadSer136 phosphorylation.

OBJECTIVE: To explore whether anchor placement could improve holding force of anchors under the condition of osteoporosis, in order to solve the problem of clinical treatment for rotator cuff injury associated with osteoporosis. METHODS: Twenty one bone modules, which included 13 males and 8 females aged from 60 to 95 years old with an average of (77.6±10.3) years old, and were divided into three experimental groups named as group A, B and C, and 7 in each group. A single anchor was inserted in group A, two parallel anchors were screwed in group B, and a single anchor was screwed in group C, then after the anchor was pulled out, anchor was screwed back and another anchor was screwed in close to the anchor. X-ray examination was performed in all three groups to observe situation of anchor in osteoporosis module; the maximum axial pull-out force (Fmax) of the three groups was measured. RESULTS: Fmax of group A, B and C was (170.35±31.21) N, (314.47±23.47) N, and(292.74±25.36) N, respectively. Compared with group A, there were statistical difference of Fmax in group B and C(P<0.05), while no difference of Fmax between group B and C(P>0.05). CONCLUSION: In the case of loose anchors in the osteoporosis module, holding force of anchors could be improved by adding anchor, which provide a remedy for single anchor failure in clinical operation.

OBJECTIVE: To measure anatomical data of calcaneofibular ligament (CFL), relevant data of CFL attachment to provide an anatomical basis for CFL reconstruction. METHODS: Twenty-seven adult ankle specimens were selected, including 11 males and 16 females, aged from 22 to 71 years old with an average of (41.6±17.2) years old;9 cases on the left side and 18 cases on the right side. The specimens reserved at least 20 cm above ankle joint and a complete foot, and exclude deformities, fractures, incomplete development and degenerative lesions. CFL was performed detailed anatomical observation, morphological parameters of CFL was measured, and coordinates of fibula side and calcaneal side of CFL in the coordinate axis were measured. The distance between fibula insertion of CFL and fibula tip, distance between calcaneal insertion of CFL and lateral calcaneal nodule, and Angle between CFL and long axis of fibula were also measured. RESULTS: In these 27 specimens, CFL cases were all single bundles and the length of CFL was (32.83 ± 8.19) mm. The center point of fibula attachment in CFL was(2.87± 1.21) mm proximal with a coefficient of variation of 42.16% and (2.08±1.34) mm anteriorly with a coefficient of variation of 64.42%. The center point of calcaneal attachment region of CFL was located on coordinate axis on the distal end (15.32±5.33) mm, with a coefficient of variation of 34.79%, and the posterior part (6.38±2.15) mm, with a coefficient of variation of 33.86%. The distance between center point of fibula attachment and fibula tip was (4.81±0.82) mm. The distance between center point of calcaneal attachment area of CFL and lateral calcaneal nodules was(17.25±3.12) mm. Angle between CFL and fibula axis is (43 ±18)° . CONCLUSION: According to anatomical studies, we could locate the fibula and calcaneal attachment of CFL by anatomical markers around ankle joint. However, the location of CFL attachment has a large variation, and the anatomical characteristics need to be considered in anatomical reconstruction.

OBJECTIVE: Although the cause of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is still controversial, it is generally accepted that neuroinflammation plays a key role in AD pathogenesis. Thus, regulating the polarization of microglia will help in recovering from AD since microglia can be polarized into classical M1 and alternative M2 phenotypes, M1 microglia leading to neuroinflammation and M2 microglia acting as anti-inflammatory effectors. Our previous study demonstrated that eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an essential n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, may modulate glial cell activity and functions, but it is not clear whether EPA plays a role in microglial polarization. Here, we aimed to test the hypothesis that EPA may regulate the polarization of microglia and subsequently alleviate neuroinflammation and neuronal damage. METHODS: Male C57BL/6 mice were fed an EPA-supplemented diet or a palm oil-supplemented diet for 42 days. On day 28 of diet feeding, the mice received a single intracerebroventricular injection of ß-peptide fragment 1-42(Aß1-42) or saline. The polarization of M1 and M2 microglia was evaluated by western blot using the respective markers. Changes in inflammatory cytokine mRNA levels were examined using real-time PCR. Neurological deficits were analysed using the Morris water maze and TdT-mediated dUTP Nick-End Labeling (TUNEL) assays. RESULTS: EPA supplementation effectively reversed the increasing trend of M1 microglial markers and the decreased expression of M2 microglial markers in the hippocampus mediated by Aß1-42 and normalized the Aß-induced upregulation of proinflammatory cytokines and the downregulation of anti-inflammatory factors. Consistent with these findings, EPA significantly improved cognitive function and inhibited apoptotic neuronal death in the hippocampus. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrated that EPA appears to have potential effects on regulating microglial polarization, which contributes to alleviating neuroinflammation and may have beneficial effects for preventing and treating AD.

The purpose of this study aimed to (1) identify the relationship between the fibula and the talus of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL); (2) collect detailed anatomical data and provide anatomical basis for ATFL anatomical reconstruction. We selected 27 ankle specimens of adult cadavers (9 left feet and 18 right feet in 11 males and 16 females; mean age 41.6 years) with the exception of ankle deformities, fractures, underdevelopment and degenerative diseases. In these 27 specimens,15 cases of ATFL were divided into two bundles and 12 cases of ATFL were single bundles. The average ATFL length was 20.31 ± 3.12mm. The center of the ATFL in 11 specimens was located in the calcaneofibular ligament (CFL) foot print area. The long axis of the fibula side stop point was 8.83±1.82 mm, and the short axis was 3.12±0.49 mm. The distance from the center of the ATFL fibula attachment area to the tip of the fibula was 14.22±2.87 mm, and the distance from the center of the CFL is 5.57±1.80mm. The distance from the center of the ATFL talar attachment area to the tibiotalar articular surface was (9.74±2.12) mm, and the distance from the anterior external cartilage surface of the talus was (4.87±1.82) mm. The angle between ATFL and the long axis of the fibula is 78°±12°. Our results suggest that in ATFL reconstruction, the anatomical attachment points around the ATFL or the angle between ATFL and the long axis of the fibula both can be used for bone canal positioning.

A 1225-Channel Neuromorphic Retinal Prosthesis (RP) SoC is presented. Existing RP SoCs directly convert light intensity to electrical stimulus, which limit the adoption of delicate stimulus patterns to increase visual acuity. Moreover, a conventional centralized image processor leads to the local hot spot that poses a risk to the nearby retinal cells. To solve these issues, the proposed SoC adopts a distributed Neuromorphic Image Processor (NMIP) located within each pixel that extracts the outline of the incoming image, which reduces current dispersion and stimulus power compared with light-intensity proportional stimulus pattern. A spike-based asynchronous digital operation results in the power consumption of 56.3 nW/Ch without local temperature hot spot. At every 5×5 pixels, the localized (49-point) temperature-regulation circuit limits the temperature increase of neighboring retinal cells to less than 1 °C, and the overall power consumption of the SoC to be less than that of the human eye. The 1225-channel SoC fabricated in 0.18 µm 1P6M CMOS occupies 15mm2 while consuming 2.7 mW, and is successfully verified with image reconstruction demonstration.

RESUMO

This paper presents the body-coupled power transmission and ambient energy harvesting ICs. The ICs utilize human body-coupling to deliver power to the entire body, and at the same time, harvest energy from ambient EM waves coupled through the body. The ICs improve the recovered power level by adapting to the varying skin-electrode interface parasitic impedance at both the TX and RX. To maximize the power output from the TX, the dynamic impedance matching is performed amidst environment-induced variations. At the RX, the Detuned Impedance Booster (DIB) and the Bulk Adaptation Rectifier (BAR) are proposed to improve the power recovery and extend the power coverage further. In order to ensure the maximum power extraction despite the loading variations, the Dual-Mode Buck-Boost Converter (DM-BBC) is proposed. The ICs fabricated in 40 nm 1P8M CMOS recover up to 100 µW from the body-coupled power transmission and 2.5 µW from the ambient body-coupled energy harvesting. The ICs achieve the full-body area power delivery, with the power harvested from the ambiance via the body-coupling mechanism independent of placements on the body. Both approaches show power sustainability for wearable electronics all around the human body.

RESUMO

This paper presents a wearable active concentric electrode for concurrent EEG monitoring and Body-Coupled Communication (BCC) data transmission. A three-layer concentric electrode eliminates the usage of wires. A common mode averaging unit (CMAU) is proposed to cancel not only the continuous common-mode interference (CMI) but also the instantaneous CMI of up to 51Vpp. The localized potential matching technique removes the ground electrode. An open-loop programmable gain amplifier (OPPGA) with the pseudo-resistor-based RC-divider block is presented to save the silicon area. The presented work is the first reported so far to achieve the concurrent EEG signal recording and BCC-based data transmission. The proposed chip achieves 100 dB CMRR and 110 dB PSRR, occupies 0.044 mm2, and consumes 7.4 µW with an input-referred noise density of 26 nV/√Hz.

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical effect of proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO) and single condyle replacement (UKA) in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis of different severity. METHODS: From June 2015 to September 2017, 53 patients with knee osteoarthritis were analyzed retrospectively. According to the operation mode, they were divided into PFO group (26 cases) and UKA group (27 cases) . According to Kellygren-Lawrence imaging classification standard:PFO group, 5 cases of gradeⅡ, 11 cases of grade Ⅲ, 10 cases of grade Ⅳ; UKA group, 7 cases of gradeⅡ, 9 cases of grade Ⅲ, 11 cases of grade Ⅳ. The amount of intraoperative bleeding, operation time and postoperative hospital stay were compared between the two groups. The patients were followed up regularly in the outpatient clinic before operation, 3 months after operation and 1 year after operation. The WOMAC score and the angle of tibiofemoral angle at each time point in the same group were compared, and the OMAC score and the angle of tibiofemoral angle at each time between the two groups were compared. RESULTS: Fifty-three patients were followed up for 12 to 24 (16.6±4.8) months. Compared with UKA group, PFO group had less intraoperative bleeding, shorter operative time and shorter postoperative hospital stay (P<0.05) . The scores of pain, stiffness and body function in UKA group were better than those in PFO group (P<0.05) . After 3 months and 1 year, the WOMAC index in PFO group was significantly improved (P<0.05) ; after 3 months and 1 year, the WOMAC index in UKA group was significantly better than that in PFO group (P<0.05) ; after 3 months, the WOMAC index in PFO group was significantly better than that in UKA group (P<0.05) . The tibiofemoral angle of gradeⅡand Ⅲ patients in both groups decreased gradually (P<0.05) ; the tibiofemoral angle of grade Ⅳ patients in UKA group was smaller than that of grade Ⅳ patients in PFO group (P<0.05) . CONCLUSION: Compared with UKA, PFO has the advantages of small trauma, fast recovery and low cost. The curative effect of PFO is equal to or more than UKA in the patients with gradeⅡand Ⅲ knee osteoarthritis. It is an alternative surgical method for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.
