RESUMO

Frozen surimi quality generally correlates with oxidation, but impacts of protein oxidation on salt-dissolved myofibrillar protein (MP) sol in surimi remain unclear. Hence, physicochemical and gelling properties of MP sol with different oxidation degrees were investigated subjected to freeze-thaw cycles. Results showed that mild oxidation (≤1 mmol/L) improved unfrozen MP gel quality with lowest cooking loss (3.29 %) and highest hardness (829.76 N). Whereas, oxidized sol suffering freeze-thawing degenerated severely, showing reduction of 23.85 % of salt soluble protein contents with H2O2 concentrations of 10 mmol/L. Shearing before heating influenced gelling properties of freeze-thawed sol, depending on oxidation levels. Oxidized gel with shearing displayed disorganized network structures, whereas gel without shearing displayed relatively complete appearances without holes under high oxidation condition (10 mmol/L). Overall, freeze-thaw process aggravated denaturation extents of MP sol subjected to oxidation, further causing high water loss and yellow color of heat-induced gel, especially to gel with shearing.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Students are a priority population in mental health research. This study aimed to explore the risk factors of anxiety and depression symptoms among college students in Chongqing, a megacity under the impact of COVID-19, and to provide a basis for determining the priorities of public health policies and implementing effective educational health care interventions. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study conducted in Chongqing, China, the data came from web-based stratified random sampling. Anxiety and depression symptoms were measured by the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), respectively, and risk factors were analyzed by logistic regression. RESULTS: Data were obtained from 915 college students (34.75% were male, and 65.25% were female) with age (20.29 ± 1.51) in Chongqing, China. The prevalence rates of anxiety and depression were 19.78% and 22.62%, respectively. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the risk factors of anxiety symptoms were associated with junior years, sleep time of less than 6 h a day, influence on career planning, and depression symptoms. Comprehensive, science and engineering, and medicine disciplines, having siblings, poorer mastery of study, and anxiety symptoms were risk factors for developing depression symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: During the pandemic, college students experienced varying degrees of anxiety and depression. Our research findings highlight the necessity of universities and relevant departments providing precise mental health education for college students under major public health emergencies.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of Wenjing Decoction and Tiaobu Chongren acupuncture and moxibustion therapy on serum sex hormones and ovarian function recovery in premature ovarian failure (POF) patients with deficiency-cold syndrome. METHODS: From February 2018 to October 2019, 119 POI patients with deficiency-cold syndrome who met the selection criteria were randomly divided into the control group (n = 59) and the observation group (n = 60). The control group was treated with hormone replacement therapy, and the observation group was treated with Wenjing Decoction and Tiaobu Chongren acupuncture and moxibustion therapy on the basis of the control group. Both groups were treated continuously for 3 months. After treatment, the clinical efficacy of the two groups was compared, the Chinese medicine syndrome score, serum estradiol (E 2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) and bilateral antral follicle count (AFC), mean ovarian volume, and endometrial thickness of the two groups before and after treatment were compared. RESULT: The effective rate of the observation group (93.10%) was higher than that of the control group (77.59%) (P < 0.05). After treatment, the index scores of traditional Chinese medicine syndromes in two groups were lower than before (P < 0.05), and the observation group was lower than the control group (P < 0.05). The serum E 2 and AMH levels in the two groups increased, while FSH and LH levels decreased compared with before treatment, and the observation group improved significantly compared with the control group (P < 0.05). The bilateral AFC, mean ovarian volume, and endometrial thickness of the two groups increased compared with before treatment, and the observation group was higher than the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: On the basis of hormone replacement therapy, the combination of Wenjing Decoction and Tiaobu Chongren acupuncture and moxibustion therapy is effective in treating POF patients with deficiency-cold syndrome, which can effectively regulate their serum sex hormone levels and promote the recovery of ovarian function.

RESUMO

Muscle atrophy is a severe clinical problem involving the loss of muscle mass and strength that frequently accompanies the development of numerous types of cancer, including pancreatic, lung and gastric cancers. Cancer cachexia is a multifactorial syndrome characterized by a continuous decline in skeletal muscle mass that cannot be reversed by conventional nutritional therapy. The pathophysiological characteristic of cancer cachexia is a negative protein and energy balance caused by a combination of factors, including reduced food intake and metabolic abnormalities. Numerous necessary cellular processes are disrupted by the presence of abnormal metabolites, which mediate several intracellular signaling pathways and result in the net loss of cytoplasm and organelles in atrophic skeletal muscle during various states of cancer cachexia. Currently, the clinical morbidity and mortality rates of patients with cancer cachexia are high. Once a patient enters the cachexia phase, the consequences are difficult to reverse and the treatment methods for cancer cachexia are very limited. The present review aimed to summarize the recent discoveries regarding the pathogenesis of cancer cachexiainduced muscle atrophy and provided novel ideas for the comprehensive treatment to improve the prognosis of affected patients.

RESUMO

To identify the common inhibition types, the putative decision system is unsatisfactory. In a new decision system, Michaelis-Menten constants and maximal reaction rates were plotted versus inhibitor concentrations for deriving K(ik) and K(iv) as the inhibition constants, respectively; their difference was quantified as the ratio of the larger one to the smaller one. Such ratios below 2.0 suggested uncompetitive inhibitors, over 5.0 suggested noncompetitive or competitive inhibitors, and from 2.0 to 5.0 suggested mixed inhibitors. By the new decision system, (i) the simulation recovery of uncompetitive inhibitors under CVs of 2% or 5% was improved by four times, but that of competitive or noncompetitive inhibitors was improved slightly; (ii) the recovery of L-phenylalanine as an uncompetitive inhibitor of intestinal alkaline phosphatase reached 38%, while the putative decision system lost all; the recovery of xanthine as a competitive inhibitor of uricase was improved slightly. Therefore, the new decision system was better.

RESUMO

As a highly conserved nuclear protein, death domain-associated protein (Daxx) plays an important role in transcriptional control, carcinogenesis, and resistance to virus infection and so on. In order to further investigate the mechanism of Daxx, the yeast two-hybrid technique was used to screen the intra-cellular proteins interacting with Daxx. And 13 positive colonies and three proteins interacting with Daxx were obtained. One of the candidate proteins was identified as ferritin, heavy polypeptide 1(FTH1). The interaction between Daxx and FTH1 was further supported by GST pull-down and co-immunoprecipitation respectively. Then Daxx was determined to induce apoptosis and FTH1 can inhibit Daxx-mediated apoptosis. Besides, it is found that Daxx mediated apoptosis through the Fas-Daxx-ASK1-JNK1 signaling pathway, while FTH1 can inhibit the activation of JNK signaling pathway. We present evidence to demonstrate the FTH1 and Daxx are able to participate in apoptosis pathway through JNK signal molecule and FTH1 can inhibit this pathway.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify the mayven-interacting proteins and study the effect of mayven on multiple sclerosis pathogenesis. METHODS: The full length and four different fragments of mayven gene were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with specific primers and were cloned into the yeast expression vector pDBLeu. Then, the recombinant plasmids were transformed into MAV203 yeast strain. The autonomous activation of their expression products was detected. RESULTS: The yeast expression vectors of mayven, which include a full-length and four different fragments, were constructed successfully. Full length P1, fragments P3 and P4 have no effect on the expression of HIS3 and LacZ gene, but fragments P7 and P8 do. The C-terminal of Mayven gene may contain a transcription activation domain. CONCLUSION: Full length P1, fragments P3 and P4 of the mayven gene can be used to screen the mayven-interacting proteins, but whether Mayven has transcriptional activation activity need to be studied.
