RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), which can be easily measured from whole blood counts, are composite reflections of significant inflammatory response pathways. However, the relationship between PLR and NLR in patients with ovarian endometriosis is only partially supported by clinical evidence. This study aimed at identifying useful markers for early diagnosis by examining the relationship between PLR and NLR in patients with ovarian endometriosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between June 2015 and December 2022, we gathered clinical data of 10,458 endometriosis patients who visited the Gynecology Division of the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University. All statistical analyses were performed using the R statistical package. RESULTS: The results of the univariate analysis, smoothed curve fitting, multiple regression analysis, and subgroup analysis revealed that NLR was always positively correlated with PLR. Further analysis based on the curve fitting threshold effect revealed a significant positive correlation between NLR and PLR when NLR < 2.07 (ß: 34.49). Furthermore, when NLR > 2.07, there was a significant positive correlation between NLR and PLR (ß: 16.93). CONCLUSIONS: The finding that NLR and PLR have a positive correlation confirms that inflammation plays a role in the pathogenesis of ovarian endometriosis. Therefore, PLR and NLR could be used as new biomarkers for the diagnosis of endometriosis.

RESUMO

Apple replant disease (ARD) caused by the fungal pathogen Fusarium proliferatum f. sp. malus domestica (Fpmd) MR5 brings annual losses to apple production within China. However, the genomic information of the pathogen is not yet available. Here, we obtained the whole-genome sequence of the highly virulent Fpmd MR5 using the Illumina PE150 platform. The genome size was 42.76 Mb and consisted of 9,047 genes. The GC content was 48.80%, and several genes potentially associated with pathogenicity were identified, such as carbohydrate-active enzymes, secreted proteins, and secondary metabolite gene clusters. There were 260 specific virulence factor genes, mainly related to fungal vegetative growth and the production of cell wall-degrading enzymes. These data will aid future studies investigating host-pathogen interactions and help us develop suitable disease management strategies.

RESUMO

Apple replant disease (ARD) is the most serious threat facing the apple industry globally. ARD is mainly manifested as decreased plant growth, serious root rot disease, and considerable yield loss. Microbial factors are the dominant factors leading to the occurrence of ARD. Research on soil-borne pathogenic fungi leading to the occurrence of ARD in China is limited. In the present study, we selected 16 replanting orchards from the Northwest Loess region and around the Bohai Gulf. Diseased roots and rhizosphere soil from healthy apple trees and trees showing ARD symptoms were sampled at random. High-throughput sequencing was used to study the fungal communities in the rhizosphere soil, which showed that the composition of the rhizosphere soil fungal community of ARD-symptomatic and healthy apple trees was different. Nectriaceae at the family level and Fusarium at the genus level dominated the rhizosphere soil fungal community in the two regions, while for healthy apple trees, the relative abundance of Mortierella, Minimedusa, Tetracladium, and Chaetomium was higher. Tissue separation and serial dilution were used to separate fungi, and a total of 89 genera and 219 species were obtained, most of which were Fusarium. Fusarium was further confirmed to be the most abundant pathogen species leading to the occurrence of ARD in China through pathogenicity assays. A pathogenicity assay was carried out by the dip-and-cut technique using different host plants. It was found that Fusarium MR5 showed strong aggressiveness to apple rootstocks. Diseased seedlings specifically exhibited chlorosis of the leaves, browning from the edge of the leaf, followed by rolling and yellowing of the leaves, resulting in wilting and eventually death. Strain MR5 was preliminarily identified as F. proliferatum according to the morphological and cultural characteristics. A maximum likelihood analysis of identities based on six gene sequence (ITS, TUB2, IGS, mtSSU, RPB2, and the TEF gene) alignments between the MR5 strain and other strains showed 99 to 100% homology with F. proliferatum. Based on our test results, strain MR5 was identified as F. proliferatum f. sp. malus domestica, which is of great significance for finding new measures to control ARD in China.

RESUMO

We report a new determination of the Boltzmann constant kB using a cylindrical acoustic gas thermometer. We determined the length of the copper cavity from measurements of its microwave resonance frequencies. This contrasts with our previous work (Zhang et al 2011 Int. J. Thermophys.32 1297, Lin et al 2013 Metrologia50 417, Feng et al 2015 Metrologia52 S343) that determined the length of a different cavity using two-color optical interferometry. In this new study, the half-widths of the acoustic resonances are closer to their theoretical values than in our previous work. Despite significant changes in resonator design and the way in which the cylinder length is determined, the value of kB is substantially unchanged. We combined this result with our four previous results to calculate a global weighted mean of our kB determinations. The calculation follows CODATA's method (Mohr and Taylor 2000 Rev. Mod. Phys. 72 351) for obtaining the weighted mean value of kB that accounts for the correlations among the measured quantities in this work and in our four previous determinations of kB. The weighted mean k̂B is 1.380 6484(28) × 10-23 J K-1 with the relative standard uncertainty of 2.0 × 10-6. The corresponding value of the universal gas constant is 8.314 459(17) J K-1 mol-1 with the relative standard uncertainty of 2.0 × 10-6.

RESUMO

Relative primary acoustic gas thermometry (AGT) determines the ratios of thermodynamic temperatures from measured ratios of acoustic and microwave resonance frequencies in a gas-filled metal cavity on isotherms of interest. When measured in a cavity with known dimensions, the frequencies of acoustic resonances in a gas determine the speed of sound, which is a known function of the thermodynamic temperature T. Changes in the dimensions of the cavity are measured using the frequencies of the cavity's microwave resonances. We explored techniques and materials for AGT at high temperatures using a cylindrical cavity with remote acoustic transducers. We used gas-filled ducts as acoustic waveguides to transmit sound between the cavity at high temperatures and the acoustic transducers at room temperature. We measured non-degenerate acoustic modes in a cylindrical cavity in the range 295 K

RESUMO

n order to investigate the dynamics of Septin4 (Sept4) expression and its function in the formation of fibrotic livers in mice infected with Schistosoma japonicum, we constructed the mouse model of S. japonicum egg-induced liver fibrosis for 24 weeks. Immunohistochemical staining, qRT-PCR and Western blot were used to detect the expression of Sept4 and α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA). We found Sept4 localized in the perisinusoidal space where hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) distribute in the periphery of circumoval granulomas and the portal venule. The expression of Sept4 and α-SMA had a similar significant tendency of an up-regulation to a peak at 12 weeks post-infection (p.i.) followed by a down-regulation. At 24 weeks p.i. both were at a low level. These results suggest that Sept4 and α-SMA may interact together in HSCs. Based on this evidence, we hypothesize that Sept4 seems to be involved in the formation of inflammatory granulomata and subsequent liver fibrosis by regulating HSCs activation.
