Background: Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is the leading cause of low back pain (LBP). The mechanism of IDD development and progression is not fully understood. Peripheral biomarkers are increasingly vital non-radioactive methods in early detection and diagnosis for IDD. Nevertheless, less attention has been paid to the role of mitophagy genes in the progress of IDD. This study aimed to identify the mitophagy disease-causing genes in the process of IDD and mitophagy diagnostic biomarkers for IDD. Methods: Mitophagy-related differentially expressed genes (MRDEGs) related to IDD were investigated by analyzing the microarray datasets of IDD cases from GEO, PathCards and Molecular Signatures Databases. We used R software, WGCNA, PPI, mRNA-miRNA, mRNA-TF, GO, KEGG, GSEA, GSVA and Cytoscape to analyze and visualize the data. We further used ssGSEA for immunoinfiltration analysis to obtain different immune cell infiltration. LASSO model was developed to screen for genes that met the diagnostic gene model requirements. Finally, qRT-PCR, Western blotting and HE were used to verify hub genes and their expression from clinical IDD samples. Results: We identified 14 MRDEGs and 12 hub genes. GO, KEGG, GSEA and GSVA analyses demonstrated that hub genes were critical for the development of IDD. LASSO diagnostic model consisted of six hub genes, among which SQSTM1, ATG7 and OPTN were significantly different between the two IDD disease subtypes. At the same time, SQSTM1 also had a high correlation with immune characteristic subtypes. The results of qRT-PCR and Western blotting also indicated that these genes were significantly differentially expressed in nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) of the IDD group. Conclusion: We explored an association between MRDEGs-associated signature in IDD and validated that hub genes like SQSTM1 might serve as biomarkers for diagnostic and therapeutic targets for IDD. Meanwhile, this study can provide new insights into the functional characteristics and mechanism of mitophagy in the development of IDD.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is widely used to establish various animal models, including models of acute lung injury, cardiomyocyte damage, and acute kidney injury. Currently, there is no consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of LPS-induced disease. We herein present a case series of four patients who developed dose-dependent multi-organ injury, including acute lung injury and acute kidney injury, after inhaling LPS gas in a sealed room. These patients exhibited varying degrees of multi-organ injury characterized by inflammatory cell infiltration and secretion of proinflammatory cytokines. One patient showed progressive symptoms even with active treatment, leading to mild pulmonary fibrosis. This study emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of significant LPS exposure and suggests personalized treatment approaches for managing LPS poisoning.

The aggregation and sedimentation of micro/nano-plastics significantly affect their migration and distribution in the environment. This study investigated the effects of Na+ and natural organic matter (NOM) on the aggregation and sedimentation of polystyrene nano-plastics (PS-NPs) in the aqueous phase. Six types of water, such as seawater, lake water, and domestic sewage, were used to evaluate the above effects and other potential influencing factors. The results indicated that Na+ could facilitate the sedimentation of PS-NPs when it was less than 80 mmol·L-1, whereas it could promote the aggregation and suspension of PS-NPs when the concentration was greater than 80 mmol·L-1. NOM molecules affected the aggregation and sedimentation of PS-NPs by changing the ζ potential and relative density of particles via forming a multilayer adsorption structure with Na+ on the particle surface. It was observed that NOM greater than 10 mg·L-1 enhanced the dispersion and suspension of PS-NPs, which might have been attributed to the decrease in relative density of the particles as a large amount of NOM was absorbed onto the surface. Compared with synthetic waters, environmental waters enhanced the aggregation of PS-NPs, which may have been related to the amino acid, protein, and other organic macro-molecules in the water.

Immunotherapy, particularly immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICIs) therapy, stands as an innovative therapeutic approach currently garnering substantial attention in cancer treatment. It has become a focal point of numerous studies, showcasing significant potential in treating malignancies, including lung cancer and melanoma. The objective of this research is to analyze publications regarding immunotherapy for colorectal cancer (CRC), investigating their attributes and identifying the current areas of interest and cutting-edge advancements. We took into account the publications from 2002 to 2022 included in the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric analysis and visualization were conducted using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, R-bibliometrix, and Microsoft Excel. The quantity of publications associated with this domain has been steadily rising over the years, encompassing 3753 articles and 1498 reviews originating from 573 countries and regions, involving 19,166 institutions, 1011 journals, and 32,301 authors. In this field, China, the United States, and Italy are the main countries that come forward for publishing. The journal with the greatest impact factor is CA-A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. Romain Cohen leads in the number of publications, while Le Dt stands out as the most influential author. The immune microenvironment and immune infiltration are emerging as key hotspots and future research directions in this domain. This research carries out an extensive bibliometric examination of immunotherapy for colorectal cancer, aiding researchers in understanding current focal points, investigating possible avenues for research, and recognizing forthcoming development trends.

Stroke remained the leading cause of disability in the world, and the most important non-modifiable risk factor was age. The treatment of stroke for elder patients faced multiple difficulties due to its complicated pathogenesis and mechanism. Therefore, we aimed to identify the potential differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and singnalling pathways for aged people of stroke. To compare the DEGs in the aged rats with or without middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and to analyse the important genes and the key signaling pathways involved in the development of cerebral ischaemia in aged rats. The Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) analysis tool was used to analyse the DEGs in the GSE166162 dataset of aged MCAO rats compared with aged sham rats. Differential expression analysis was performed in aged MCAO rats and sham rats using limma. In addition, the 74 DEGs (such as Fam111a, Lcn2, Spp1, Lgals3 and Gpnmb were up-regulated; Egr2, Nr4a3, Arc, Klf4 and Nr4a1 were down-regulated) and potential compounds corresponding to the top 20 core genes in the Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network was constructed using the STRING database (version 12.0). Among these 30 compounds, resveratrol, cannabidiol, honokiol, fucoxanthin, oleandrin and tyrosol were significantly enriched. These DEGs were subjected to Gene Ontology (GO) function analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis to determine the most significantly enriched pathway in aged MCAO rats. Moreover, innate immune response, the complement and coagulation cascades signaling pathway, the IL-17 and other signaling pathways were significantly correlated with the aged MCAO rats. Our study indicates that multiple genes and pathological processes involved in the aged people of stroke. The immune response might be the key pathway in the intervention of cerebral infarction in aged people.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to develop a nomogram model for predicting the occurrence of intramyocardial hemorrhage (IMH) in patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). The model is constructed utilizing clinical data and the SYNTAX Score (SS), and its predictive value is thoroughly evaluated. METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted, including 216 patients with AMI who underwent Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) within a week post-PCI. Clinical data were collected for all patients, and their SS were calculated based on coronary angiography results. Based on the presence or absence of IMH as indicated by CMR, patients were categorized into two groups: the IMH group (109 patients) and the non-IMH group (107 patients). The patients were randomly divided in a 7:3 ratio into a training set (151 patients) and a validation set (65 patients). A nomogram model was constructed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. The predictive capability of the model was assessed using Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, comparing the predictive value based on the area under the ROC curve (AUC). RESULTS: In the training set, IMH post-PCI was observed in 78 AMI patients on CMR, while 73 did not show IMH. Variables with a significance level of P < 0.05 were screened using univariate logistic regression analysis. Twelve indicators were selected for multivariate logistic regression analysis: heart rate, diastolic blood pressure, ST segment elevation on electrocardiogram, culprit vessel, symptom onset to reperfusion time, C-reactive protein, aspartate aminotransferase, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase, creatine kinase-MB, high-sensitivity troponin T (HS-TnT), and SYNTAX Score. Based on multivariate logistic regression results, two independent predictive factors were identified: HS-TnT (Odds Ratio [OR] = 1.61, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 1.21-2.25, P = 0.003) and SS (OR = 2.54, 95% CI: 1.42-4.90, P = 0.003). Consequently, a nomogram model was constructed based on these findings. The AUC of the nomogram model in the training set was 0.893 (95% CI: 0.840-0.946), and in the validation set, it was 0.910 (95% CI: 0.823-0.970). Good consistency and accuracy of the model were demonstrated by calibration and decision curve analysis. CONCLUSION: The nomogram model, constructed utilizing HS-TnT and SS, demonstrates accurate predictive capability for the risk of IMH post-PCI in patients with AMI. This model offers significant guidance and theoretical support for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of these patients.

BACKGROUND: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common type of lung cancer (LC), which is the leading cause of tumor mortality. In recent years, compared with tissue biopsy, which is the diagnostic gold standard for tumor diagnosis, Liquid biopsy (LB) is considered to be a more minimally invasive, sensitive, and safer alternative or auxiliary diagnostic method. However, the current value of LB in early diagnosis of LC is not ideal, so it is particularly important to study the changes in blood composition during the process of tumorigenesis and find more sensitive biomarkers. PURPOSE: Platelets are a type of abundant blood cells that carry a large amount of RNA. In the LC regulatory network, activated platelets play an important role in the process of tumorigenesis, development, and metastasis. In order to identify predictive liquid biopsy biomarkers for the diagnosis of NSCLC, we summarized the development and function of platelets, the interaction between platelets and tumors, the value of TEP RNA in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of NSCLC, and the method for detecting TEP RNA of NSCLC in this article. CONCLUSION: The application of platelets in the diagnosis and treatment of NSCLC remains at a nascent stage. In addition to the drawbacks of low platelet count and complex experimental processes, the diagnostic accuracy of TEP RNA-seq for cancer in different populations still needs to be improved and validated. At present, a large number of studies have confirmed significant differences in the expression of TEP RNA in platelets between NSCLC patients and healthy individuals. Continuous exploration of the diagnostic value of TEP RNA in NSCLC is of utmost importance. The integration of NSCLC platelet-related markers with other NSCLC markers can improve current tumor diagnosis and prognostic evaluation systems, providing broad prospects in tumor screening, disease monitoring, and prognosis assessment.

To predict massive cerebral infarction (MCI) occurrence after anterior circulation occlusion (ACO) by cASPECTS-CTA-CS (combined ASPECTS and CTA-CS). Of 185 cerebral infarction patients with the ACO, their collateral circulation scores from CT angiography (CTA) images in two groups (MCI and non-MCI) were evaluated using Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) and CT angiography collateral score (CTA-CS) approaches. The cASPECTS-CTA-CS was validated internally using the bootstrap sampling method with 1000 bootstrap repetitions and compared to CTA-CS. Receiver-operating characteristic curve (ROC), clinical impact curve (CIC), and decision curve analysis (DCA) strategies were used to assess the clinical practicality and predictability of both approaches (cASPECTS-CTA-CS and CTA-CS). Using net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) analyses, discrimination levels of the cASPECTS-CTA-CS were compared with CTA-CS. Classification and regression tree (CART) analyses was conducted to identify the best predictive values and identify subgroup of MCI. The discrimination ability of collateral circulation evaluation score using the cASPECTS-CTA-CS [AUC: 0.918, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.869-0.967, P < 0.01; NRI: 0.200, 95% CI: -0.104 to 0.505, P = 0.197; and IDI: 0.107, 95% CI: 0.035-0.178, P = 0.004] was better than CTA-CS alone (AUC: 0.885, 95% CI: 0.833-0.937, P < 0.01). DCA indicated the net benefits of the cASPECTS-CTA-CS approach was higher than CTA-CS alone when the threshold probability range over 20%. CIC analyses showed that the number of high risks and true positives were in agreement when the threshold probability > 80%. Less than 23 of cASPECTS-CTA-CS by CART was important factor in determining MCI occurrence, and ASPECTS < 7 was followed factor. The cASPECTS-CTA-CS approach cumulatively predicted MCI after ACO.

BACKGROUND: Ligamentum flavum (LF) hypertrophy is the main cause of lumbar spinal canal stenosis (LSCS). Previous studies have shown that LF hypertrophy tissue exhibits abnormal lipid accumulation, but the regulatory mechanism remains unclear. The objective of this study was to explore the function and potential mechanism of ACSM5 in LF lipid accumulation. METHODS: To assess the ACSM5 expression levels, lipid accumulation and triglyceride (TG) level in LF hypertrophy and normal tissue, we utilized RT-qPCR, western blot, oil red O staining, and TG assay kit. The pearson correlation coefficient assay was used to analyze the correlation between ACSM5 levels and lipid accumulation or TG levels in LF hypertrophy tissue. The role of ACSM5 in free fatty acids (FFA)-induced lipid accumulation in LF cells was assessed in vitro, and the role of ACSM5 in LF hypertrophy in mice was verified in vivo. To investigate the underlying mechanisms of ACSM5 regulating lipid accumulation in LF, we conducted the mRNA sequencing, bioinformatics analysis, and rescue experiments. RESULTS: In this study, we found that ACSM5, which was significantly down-regulated in LF tissues, correlated with lipid accumulation. In vitro cell experiments demonstrated that overexpression of ACSM5 significantly inhibited FFA-induced lipid accumulation and fibrosis in LF cells. In vivo animal experiments further confirmed that overexpression of ACSM5 inhibited LF thickening, lipid accumulation, and fibrosis. Mechanistically, ACSM5 inhibited lipid accumulation of LF cells by inhibiting FABP4-mediated PPARγ signaling pathway, thereby improving hypertrophy and fibrosis of LF. CONCLUSIONS: our findings elucidated the important role of ACSM5 in the regulation of LF lipid accumulation and provide insight into potential therapeutic interventions for the treatment of LF hypertrophy. This study further suggested that therapeutic strategies targeting lipid deposition may be an effective potential approach to treat LF hypertrophy-induced LSCS.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is the pathological basis of a range of degenerative spinal diseases and is the primary cause of lower back pain. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) transplantation inhibits IVDD progression. However, the specific mechanisms that underlie these effects remain unclear. In this study, candidate microRNAs (miRNAs) are screened using bioinformatics and high-throughput sequencing. TNF-α is used to induce nucleus pulposus cell (NPC) degeneration. MSC-derived exosomes (MSC-exosomes) are obtained using high-speed centrifugation and identified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and western blot analysis. Cell viability is determined by CCK-8 assay. Flow cytometry and TUNEL assays are used to detect cell apoptosis. The expression levels of miR-125b-5p are detected by RT-qPCR, and a dual-luciferase gene reporter assay confirms the downstream target genes of miR-125b-5p. Protein expression is determined by western blot analysis. Rat models are used to validate the function of miR-125b-5p in MSC-exosomes. The results show that miR-125b-5p is expressed at low levels in degenerated disc tissues compared with that in normal disc tissues; however, it is highly expressed in MSC-exosomes. Furthermore, MSC-exosomes are efficiently taken up by NPCs while miR-125b-5p is delivered into NPCs; thus, MSC-exosomes act as inhibitors of apoptosis in NPCs. Overexpression of miR-125b-5p downregulates TRAF6 expression and inhibits NF-κB activation. However, TRAF6 overexpression reverses these effects of miR-125b-5p. We demonstrate that MSC-exosomes attenuate IVDD in vivo by delivering miR-125b-5p. MSC-exosomes can deliver miR-125b-5p to target TRAF6, inhibit NF-κB activation, and attenuate the progression of IVDD.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Malignant brain edema (MBE) occurring after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) could lead to severe disability and mortality. We aimed to investigate the incidence, predictors, and clinical outcomes of MBE in patients with AIS after MT. METHODS: The clinical and imaging data of 155 patients with AIS of anterior circulation after MT were studied. Standard non-contrast CT was used to evaluate baseline imaging characteristics at admission. Clinical outcomes were measured using the 90-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score. Based on the follow-up CT scans performed within 72 h after MT, the patients were classified into MBE and non-MBE group. MBE was defined as a midline shift of ≥ 5 mm with signs of local brain swelling. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were used to analyze the relationship between MBE and clinical outcomes and identify the predictors that correlate with MBE. RESULTS: MBE was observed in 19.4% of the patients who underwent MT and was associated with a lower rate of favorable 90-day clinical outcomes. Significant differences were observed in both MBE and non-MBE groups: baseline Alberta Stroke Program Early CT (ASPECT) score, hyperdense middle cerebral artery sign (HMCAS), baseline signs of early infarct, angiographic favorable collaterals, number of retrieval attempts, and revascularization rate. Multivariate analysis indicated that low baseline ASPECT score, absent HMCAS, angiographic poor collaterals, more retrieval attempt count, and poor revascularization independently influenced the occurrence of MBE in AIS patients with anterior circulation after MT. CONCLUSION: MBE was associated with a lower rate of favorable 90-day clinical outcomes. Low baseline ASPECT score, absent HMCAS, angiographic poor collaterals, more retrieval attempt count and poor revascularization were independently associated with MBE after MT.

This study explores the pollution characteristics, risks, and sources of heavy metals in small-scale areas. Rongcheng District, Jieyang City, Guangdong Province was considered as the study area and enrichment factor (EF), pollution load index (PLI), potential ecological risk index (RI), and US EPA health risk assessment model were used to evaluate its environmental risk. Moreover, the source apportionment of heavy metals was analyzed through correlation analysis, the characteristic of spatial distribution, and a PMF model. The results showed that the mean concentrations of ω(Cr), ω(Hg), ω(As), ω(Pb), ω(Ni), ω(Cd), ω(Cu), and ω(Zn) were 54.87, 0.25, 8.35, 56.00, 15.38, 0.35, 30.56, and 124.23 mg·kg-1, respectively. The mean concentrations of all elements exceeded the local soil background value. In terms of EF level, Cr, As, Pb, and Ni showed negligible accumulation; Zn and Cu showed minor accumulation; and Hg and Cd showed moderate accumulation. The mean value of the pollution load index was 2.37, with a severe pollution level, and the eight elements were in different pollution levels. In total, the study region suffered severe ecological risk, Hg and Cd presented strong ecological risk, and other elements presented slight ecological risk. The non-carcinogenic risks under the three exposure paths were within the acceptable level. The carcinogenic risks (CR) of adults and children were 9.81E-05 and 5.59E-04, respectively, and Cr and As were the main contributors of CR. The results showed that the four sources of heavy metals were transportation sources (37.02%), parent material sources (18.53%), atmospheric deposition sources (26.49%), and industrial sources (17.96%).

The regioselectivity of C-H functionalization is commonly achieved by directing groups, electronic factors, or steric hindrance, which facilitate the identification of reaction sites. However, such strategies are less effective for reactants such as simple monofluoroarenes due to their relatively low reactivity and the modest steric demands of the fluorine atom. Herein, we present an undirected gold-catalyzed para-C-H arylation of a wide array of monofluoroarenes using air-stable aryl silanes and germanes at room temperature. A high para-regioselectivity (up to 98 : 2) can be realized by utilizing a dinuclear dppm(AuOTs)2 (dppm=bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) as the catalyst and hexafluorobenzene as the solvent. This provides a general and practical protocol for the concise construction of structurally diverse para-arylated monofluoroarenes through C-H activation manner. It features excellent functional group tolerance and a broad substrate scope (>80 examples). Besides, this strategy is also robust for other simple monosubstituted arenes and heteroarenes. Our mechanistic studies and theoretical calculations suggest that para-C-H selectivity arises from highly electrophilic and structurally flexible dinuclear Ar-Au(III)-Au(I) species, coupled with noncovalent interaction induced by hexafluorobenzene.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is a common neurological disorder characterized by the sudden onset of cerebral ischemia, leading to functional impairments. Swift and precise detection of AIS lesions is crucial for stroke diagnosis and treatment but poses a significant challenge. This study aims to leverage multimodal fusion technology to combine complementary information from various modalities, thereby enhancing the detection performance of AIS target detection models. METHODS: In this retrospective study of AIS, we collected data from 316 AIS patients and created a multi-modality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) dataset. We propose a Multi-Scale Attention-based YOLOv5 (MSA-YOLOv5), targeting challenges such as small lesion size and blurred borders at low resolutions. Specifically, we augment YOLOv5 with a prediction head to detect objects at various scales. Next, we replace the original prediction head with a Multi-Scale Swin Transformer Prediction Head (MS-STPH), which reduces computational complexity to linear levels and enhances the ability to detect small lesions. We incorporate a Second-Order channel attention (SOCA) module to adaptively rescale channel features by employing second-order feature statistics for more discriminative representations. Finally, we further validate the effectiveness of our method using the ISLES 2022 dataset. RESULTS: On our in-house AIS dataset, MSA-YOLOv5 achieves a 79.0% mAP0.5, substantially surpassing other single-stage models. Compared to two-stage models, it maintains a comparable performance level while significantly reducing the number of parameters and resolution. On the ISLES 2022 dataset, MSA-YOLOv5 attains an 80.0% mAP0.5, outperforming other network models by a considerable margin. MS-STPH and SOCA modules can significantly increase mAP0.5 by 2.7% and 1.9%, respectively. Visualization interpretability results show that the proposed MSA-YOLOv5 restricts high attention in the small regions of AIS lesions. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed MSA-YOLOv5 is capable of automatically and effectively detecting acute ischemic stroke lesions in multimodal images, particularly for small lesions and artifacts. Our enhanced model reduces the number of parameters while improving detection accuracy. This model can potentially assist radiologists in providing more accurate diagnosis, and enable clinicians to develop better treatment plans.

INTRODUCTION: N-acetylcysteine (NAC) prevents acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD). However, the value of NAC inhalation in the treatment of patients with AECOPD is still poorly understood. The study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of NAC inhalation in AECOPD patients requiring hospitalization. METHODS: In this single institutional, retrospective cohort study, all patients with AECOPD requiring hospitalization between January 2021 and January 2022 were included. Patients were divided into NAC group and Non-NAC group according to whether being treated with NAC inhalation and were matched using the propensity score. The primary outcome was a composite of progression to ventilation requirement, in-hospital mortality and readmission for AECOPD within 30 days. The effect on the mean hospitalized days, blood gas indexes and the incidence rate of adverse drug events were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Ninety-six patients in the NAC group were matched with 96 patients in the Non-NAC group. The differences in the primary composite end point (NAC group vs Non-NAC group, 5.2% vs 16.7%; P = 0.011) were significant. The median time to discharge was shorter in the NAC group (8.3 vs. 9.1 days, P = 0.030). The NAC group presented a larger increase in partial pressure of arterial oxygen (Pa O2 ) and a higher ratio of self-reported symptomatic improvement from admission to day 5. There was no definite difference between the two groups in the frequency of adverse event. CONCLUSION: NAC inhalation is associated with an improved clinical outcome. A further study should be conducted to confirm the clinical usefulness of NAC inhalation in AECOPD patients.

Identification of the spatial distribution, driving forces, and future trends of agricultural methane (AGM) emissions is necessary to develop differentiated emission control pathways and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 in China, which is the largest emitter of AGM. However, such research is currently lacking. Here, we estimated China's AGM emissions from 2010 to 2020 and then decomposed six factors that affect AGM emissions via the LMDI model. The results indicated that the AGM emissions in China in 2020 were 23.39 Tg, with enteric fermentation being the largest source, accounting for 43.9% of the total emissions. A total of 39.3% of the AGM emissions were from western China. The main driver of AGM emission reduction was emission intensity, accounting for 59% and 33.7% of methane emission reduction in the livestock sector and rice cultivation, respectively. Additionally, higher levels of urbanization contributed to AGM emission reductions, accounting for 31.3% and 43.0% of the livestock sector and rice cultivation emission reductions, respectively. Based on the SSP-RCP scenarios, we found that China's AGM emissions in 2060 were reduced by approximately 90% through a combination of technology measures, behavioral changes, and innovation policies. Our study provides a scientific basis for optimizing existing AGM emission reduction policies not only in China but also potentially in other high AGM-emitting countries, such as India and Brazil.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: We examined functional outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) procedures following anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (ACLVO)-related acute ischemic strokes (AIS). Results were based on admission non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) studies, using the Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS) as standard metric. METHODS: Qualifying subjects were consecutive patients (N = 343) at a single center undergoing MT for ACLVO-related AIS. Each was grouped according to ASPECTS status on admission, determined from NCCT images by two physicians. Primary clinical endpoint was functional independence, assessed via modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at 90 days. Secondary endpoints were vessel recanalization (i.e., modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction [mTICI] score), symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH), and mortality. RESULTS: In this study population (mean age, 63.6 ± 12.6 years; women, 30.3%; median baseline National Institute of Health Stroke Scale [NIHSS] score, 15.2 ± 4.5), patients were stratified by ASPECTS tier at presentation, either 0-5 (n = 50) or 6-10 (n = 293). Multivariate logistic regression showed a relation between ASPECTS values ≤ 5 and lesser chance of 90-day functional improvement (OR = 2.309, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.012-5.271; p = 0.047), once adjusted for age, baseline NIHSS score, diabetes mellitus, HbA1c concentration, D-dimer level, occlusive location, numbers of device passes, and successful recanalization. CONCLUSIONS: ASPECTS values ≤ 5 correspond with worse long-term functional improvement (mRS scores > 2) in patients undergoing MT for ACLVO-related AIS. Other independent determinants of functional outcomes after MT are age, baseline NIHSS score, HbA1c concentration, and successful recanalization.
