RESUMO

Many drugs target the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor, including psychedelics, antidepressants, and antipsychotics. This study investigates the 5-HT2A receptor-binding properties of a series of novel compounds with an amino-phenylmethylene-imidazolone (APMI) core structure. Two compounds (2a and 2c) demonstrated significant 5-HT2A receptor-binding affinity without agonistic activity, instead displaying antagonistic effects. Structurally, these compounds differ from previously reported phenethylamine-based antagonists. This work introduces APMIs as a novel pharmacophore for 5-HT2A receptor interaction and provides a foundation for developing new 5-HT2A receptor-targeting therapeutic agents.

RESUMO

Creating well-defined single-crystal textures in materials requires the biaxial alignment of all grains into desired orientations, which is challenging to achieve in soft materials. Here we report the formation of single crystals with rigorously controlled texture over macroscopic areas (>1 cm2) in a soft mesophase of a columnar discotic liquid crystal. We use two modes of directed self-assembly, physical confinement and magnetic fields, to achieve control of the orientations of the columnar axes and the hexagonal lattice along orthogonal directions. Field control of the lattice orientation emerges in a low-temperature phase of tilted discogens that breaks the field degeneracy around the columnar axis present in non-tilted states. Conversely, column orientation is controlled by physical confinement and the resulting imposition of homeotropic anchoring at bounding surfaces. These results extend our understanding of molecular organization in tilted systems and may enable the development of a range of new materials for distinct applications.

RESUMO

In the title compound, C8H20N(+)·C3H10B11N2 (-), the carborane anion cage displays nearly-perfect Cs symmetry, with the two CN groups lying on a noncrystallographic mirror plane that bis-ects the cage. In the crystal, the anions form extended chains along the a-axis direction, with C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds linking consecutive anions. The C N bond lengths (and B-C N angles) in the nitrile moities are 1.1201 (19) Å, 178.60 (15)° and 1.1433 (17) Å, 179.45 (15)°, similar to those observed in organic nitriles. A hydrogen bond between a methylene H atom of the cation and the N atom in one of the nitrile groups of the anion is the closest contact between the anion and cation, at 2.52 Å.
