RESUMO
A histomorphological study of the regenerating liver of Rana ridibunda, within 2 months after partial hepatectomy, shows that regenerative processes on the wound surface are slowly proceeding. Processes of reticular fiber reconstruction occurred in the composition of the basal membrane of liver sinusoids. A cytophotometric study shows that glandular cells in R. ridibunda liver are commonly tetraploid. The post-traumatic regeneration of the liver after partial hepatectomy involves activation of DNA synthesis in hepatocytes, leading to increase in their ploidy. Within the 1st month of regeneration, the mitotic index of hepatocytes substantially increased. Regeneration of glandular parenchyma of the liver is accompanied by a quantitative increase in binucleate hepatocytes, which is most highly expressed within 5-20 days after partial hepatectomy.

Simultaneous partial pancreatectomy does not change the fundamental mechanisms of reparative regeneration of the chick liver, taking the course of regeneration hypertrophy. Nevertheless it introduces some temporary and quantitative alterations into this process. Later on the connective tissue is formed on the wound surface and infiltration of the resected organ lobe with eosinophilic leukocytes takes place. The wound healing and scar formation are slightly retarded, with the processes of hypertrophy and hyperplasia of the cells being more significant. These events govern more continuous and more intense processes of the regeneration of epithelial structures and the growth of the secretory tubes. The liver weight completely returns to normal toward the end of experiment. Stereological analysis of the regenerating organ shows that this happens largely due to the regeneration growth of the glandular parenchyma because of the activation of proliferative processes and cell hypertrophy.

The data on histochemical study of changes in the activity of esterases, alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase and the fat content in the chick regenerating liver are presented. The accumulation of the fat in hepatocytes during the early periods of regeneration (1--5th day of the experiment) is partially conditioned by the reduction of the activity of nonspecific esterases. The maximal liver steatosis is accompanied also by an increase in the activity of alpha-glycerophosphate dehydrogenase which indicates intensification of glycolysis and synthesis of triacylglycerines (liver spare lipids) during regeneration.
