Photoinduced melting of antiferromagnetic order in La(0.5)Sr(1.5)MnO4 measured using ultrafast resonant soft x-ray diffraction.

We used ultrafast resonant soft x-ray diffraction to probe the picosecond dynamics of spin and orbital order in La(0.5)Sr(1.5)MnO(4) after photoexcitation with a femtosecond pulse of 1.5 eV radiation. Complete melting of antiferromagnetic spin order is evidenced by the disappearance of a (1/4,1/4,1/2) diffraction peak. On the other hand, the (1/4,1/4,0) diffraction peak, reflecting orbital order, is only partially reduced. We interpret the results as evidence of destabilization in the short-range exchange pattern with no significant relaxation of the long-range Jahn-Teller distortions. Cluster calculations are used to analyze different possible magnetically ordered states in the long-lived metastable phase. Nonthermal coupling between light and magnetism emerges as a primary aspect of photoinduced phase transitions in manganites.

Coherent structural dynamics and electronic correlations during an ultrafast insulator-to-metal phase transition in VO2.

We directly trace the multi-THz conductivity of VO2 during an insulator-metal transition triggered by a 12-fs light pulse. The femtosecond dynamics of lattice and electronic degrees of freedom are spectrally discriminated. A coherent wave packet motion of V-V dimers at 6 THz modulates the lattice polarizability for approximately 1 ps. In contrast, the electronic conductivity settles to a constant value already after one V-V oscillation cycle. Based on our findings, we propose a qualitative model for the nonthermal phase transition.

By that way the course of consultations, the mass-examinations and the valuation is effective possible after a short phase of adaption.

Clinical as well as oro- and vaginocytological results obtained from 92 female patients aged 16 to 48, to whom ovulostatic drugs were administered, have been analyzed. Variations in cell composition of the mucosal surface could be detected by exfoliative cytology in the vaginal and oral regions.

The author describes a case of excessive gingival hyperplasia in a 9-year-old girl under hydantoin medication. The hyperplasia of the gingivae inhibited the regular uptake of food and the eruption of the permanent teeth.

[Comparative clinical and exfoliative cytological studies on the use of occlusive dressings]. / Klinisch und exfoliativzytologisch vergleichende Untersuchungen über die Anwendung von Haftverbänden.

Among the variety of surgical packs described in the literature, zinc oxide-based packs have proved especially useful. Two types still currently used are the zinc oxide-eugenol pack according to Büchs and Walter and the pack modified by Behlke which contains Peruvian balsam in place of eugenol. Of 27 patients who had undergone a periodontal-surgical intervention, 6 were treated with a zinc oxide-eugenol pack, and 21 with a pack modified by Behlke. Clinical and cytological examinations were performed before intervention, at each change of pack (on the 5th, 8th and 14th days after intervention) and 4 weeks after intervention. The comparison of the results obtained shows the superiority of the pack modified by Behlke over the zinc oxide-eugenol pack.

Exfoliative cytology allows important information to be obtained about the structure and function of individual sections of tissue. Use of this particular method of examination is characterized by simplicity and freedom from strain on the subject being tested. In addition, the method yields clear and comprehensive results. Smears obtained from different regions of the oral cavities of subjects with clinically healthy oral mucous membrans and intact teeth were carefully analyzed. Also examined by clinical methods as well as by exfoliative cytology was the healthy gingiva, with parodontopathia inflammata superficialis and parodontopathia inflammata profunda serving as reference groups.
