BACKGROUND: Adrenal cavernous hemangiomas (AH) are benign nonfunctional vascular tumors rarely discovered as incidental findings on imaging studies or autopsies. This study presents a single case report of AH with another rare finding of the Liesegang ring. Also, we reviewed 73 case reports of cavernous adrenal hemangioma to provide an overview of AH's clinical characteristics. Case Report. A nonfunctional AH was incidentally discovered in a 59-year-old morbidly obese female patient with a 10-year history of hypertension and thyroidectomy. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan showed a left suprarenal mass of ∼16 cm in diameter. While the patient had no clinical manifestations from the hemangioma, all laboratory tests were within the normal values with no indication of a functional adrenal tumor. The mass was removed by open left adrenalectomy. The microscopic histological examination revealed a laminated structure with wide blood-filled spaces with a central core of necrotic and hemorrhagic changes, characteristic of a cavernous AH with the presence of a rare Liesegang ring. CONCLUSION: Although rare, AH should be considered as a differential diagnosis for adrenal masses. This is the first reported case of a cavernous AH with rare microscopic findings of the Liesegang ring.

Sialolipoma of the parotid gland is very rare. We report a case of a 38-year-old woman who presented with a painless, slowly growing, mobile lump of the parotid gland. Computed tomography revealed lipoma of the superficial lobe of the parotid gland. Superficial parotidectomy was performed with uneventful postoperative course. The histology showed sialolipoma. Review of the 25 reported cases (including our case) of parotid sialolipoma shows that this tumor is more common in the fifth decade of life, on the left side and the superficial lobe. It has a slight preference for men. Its clinical presentation mimics the standard (pure) parotid lipoma and other more common benign parotid tumors particularly pleomorphic adenoma and Warthin's tumor. Surgical excision is curative with minor complications and small recurrence rate. Histological examination is necessary to establish the diagnosis and to exclude malignancy.

Egypt has the highest prevalence rate of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in the world. HCV contributes to the development of about 70% of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases. Understanding the molecular basis of hepatocarcinogenesis is important for planning the therapeutic regimen for HCC patients. To clarify the possible role of mismatch repair (MMR) genes in HCV-related HCC, we studied 50 HCV-related HCC specimens (28 of which were with adjacent non-cancerous cirrhotic liver tissue, ANCLT) and 30 specimens of chronic liver disease (CLD) with no evidence of HCC. All cases were examined immunohistochemically to demonstrate the protein expression of hMSH2 and hMLH1. Thirty-two (64%) and 35 (70%) of the HCC cases revealed reduced expression of hMSH2 and hMLH1, respectively. Reduced expression of both the proteins was obtained in 26 (52%) of the HCC cases. The expression of hMSH2 and hMLH1 was reduced in 53.6% and 64.3% of ANCLT cases, respectively, with no significant difference between HCC and ANCLT. All 30 specimens of CLD had preserved expression of hMSH2 and hMLH1. Multivariate analysis showed that the reduced expression of hMSH2 or hMLH1 was significantly associated with higher grades of the tumor (p = 0.002 and 0.02, respectively).The relationships of these MMR genes with other clinicopathologic factors were not significant. Reduced expression of hMSH2 and hMLH1 in both HCC and ANCLT suggests that this event occurs at early stages of HCV-related hepatocarcinogenesis. Moreover, the significant association between reduced expression of both MMR genes and poor histologic grades of the tumor claims that these proteins are involved in the process of cancer progression.
