RESUMO

Pesticides threat marine organisms worldwide. Among them, the Pacific oyster is a bivalve mollusc model in marine ecotoxicology. A large body of literature already stated on the multiple-scale effects pesticides can trigger in the Pacific oyster, throughout its life cycle and in a delayed manner. In particular, reproductive toxicity is of major concern because of its influence on population dynamics. However, past studies mostly investigated pesticide reprotoxicity as a direct effect of exposure during gametogenesis or directly on gametes and little is known about the influence of an early embryo exposure on the breed capacity. Therefore, we studied delayed and multigenerational consequences through gametogenesis features (i.e. sex ratio, glycogen content, gene expression) and reproductive success in two consecutive oyster generations (F0 and F1) exposed to an environmentally-relevant pesticide mixture (sum nominal concentration: 2.85 µg.L-1) during embryo-larval development (0-48 h post fertilization, hpf). In the first generation, glycogen content increased in exposed individuals and the expression of some gametogenesis target genes was modified. The reproductive success measured 48 hpf was higher in exposed individuals. A multigenerational influence was observed in the second generation, with feminisation, acceleration of gametogenesis processes and the sex-specific modification of glycogen metabolism in individuals from exposed parents. This study is the first to highlight the delayed effects on reproduction induced by an early exposure to pesticides, and its multigenerational implications in the Pacific oyster. It suggests that environmental pesticide contamination can have impacts on the recruitment and the dynamics of natural oyster populations exposed during their embryo-larval phase.

RESUMO

MALDI mass spectrometry imaging has gained major interest in the field of chemical imaging. This technique makes it possible to locate tens to hundreds of ionic signals on the sample surface without any a priori. One of the current challenges is still the limited ability to annotate signals in order to convert m/z values into probable chemical structures. At the same time, data obtained by LC-MS/MS have benefited from the development of numerous chemoinformatics tools, in particular molecular networks, for their efficient annotation. For the first time, we present here the combination of MALDI-FT-ICR imaging with molecular networks from MALDI-MS/MS data directly acquired on plant tissue sections. Annotation improvements are demonstrated, paving the way for new annotation pipelines for MALDI imaging.

The molecular mechanisms induced by hypoxia are misunderstood in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and above all the hypoxia and RASSF1A/Hippo signaling relationship. We confirmed that human NSCLC (n = 45) as their brain metastases (BM) counterpart are hypoxic since positive with CAIX-antibody (target gene of Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)). A severe and prolonged hypoxia (0.2% O2, 48 h) activated YAP (but not TAZ) in Human Bronchial Epithelial Cells (HBEC) lines by downregulating RASSF1A/kinases Hippo (except for NDR2) regardless their promoter methylation status. Subsequently, the NDR2-overactived HBEC cells exacerbated a HIF-1A, YAP and C-Jun-dependent-amoeboid migration, and mainly, support BM formation. Indeed, NDR2 is more expressed in human tumor of metastatic NSCLC than in human localized NSCLC while NDR2 silencing in HBEC lines (by shRNA) prevented the xenograft formation and growth in a lung cancer-derived BM model in mice. Collectively, our results indicated that NDR2 kinase is over-active in NSCLC by hypoxia and supports BM formation. NDR2 expression is thus a useful biomarker to predict the metastases risk in patients with NSCLC, easily measurable routinely by immunohistochemistry on tumor specimens.

Thoracic radiation therapy may result in accelerated atherosclerosis and in late aortic valve stenosis (AS). In this study, we assessed the feasibility of inducing radiation-induced AS using a targeted aortic valve irradiation (10 or 20 Grays) in two groups of C57Bl6/J (WT) and ApoE-/- mice compared to a control (no irradiation). Peak aortic jet velocity was evaluated by echocardiography to characterize AS. T2*-weighted magnetic resonance imaging after injection of MPIO-αVCAM-1 was used to examine aortic inflammation resulting from irradiation. A T2* signal void on valve leaflets and aortic sinus was considered positive. Valve remodeling and mineralization were assessed using von Kossa staining. Finally, the impact of radiation on cell viability and cycle from aortic human valvular interstitial cells (hVICs) was also assessed. The targeted aortic valve irradiation in ApoE-/- mice resulted in an AS characterized by an increase in peak aortic jet velocity associated with valve leaflet and aortic sinus remodeling, including mineralization process, at the 3-month follow-up. There was a linear correlation between histological findings and peak aortic jet velocity (r = 0.57, p < 0.01). In addition, irradiation was associated with aortic root inflammation, evidenced by molecular MR imaging (p < 0.01). No significant effect of radiation exposure was detected on WT animals. Radiation exposure did not affect hVICs viability and cell cycle. We conclude that targeted radiation exposure of the aortic valve in mice results in ApoE-/-, but not in WT, mice in an aortic valve remodeling mimicking the human lesions. This preclinical model could be a useful tool for future assessment of therapeutic interventions.

The following paper gives a detailed description of the oogenesis cycle for the European Plaice (Pleuronectes platessa), from oogonia to post-ovulatory follicle, including ovarian follicle and zona pellucida sizes. Noteworthy particularities were the difficulty in identifying cortical alveoli due to their very small size. Quantitative histology (stereology) on histological slides was used to determine a first size at maturity for females from the English Channel, which was found to be smaller compared to the literature (19 cm). Stereology also determined a first spawning event starting in January, with a peak in February and ongoing until March. Moreover, the use of stereology showed misclassifications for individuals categorized into a maturity phase using a macroscopic visual method. Misclassifications were found with individuals that had spawned (D) but were put under the immature (A) phase, and individuals in development (B) classified under D.

OBJECTIVES: VEGF/VEGFR autocrine loop is a hallmark of pleural mesothelioma (PM). We thus assayed the prognostic and predictive values of VEGFR-2 [vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 or Flk-1] and CD34, a marker of endothelial cells, in samples from patients accrued in the Mesothelioma Avastin Cisplatin Pemetrexed Study ('MAPS', NCT00651456). MATERIALS AND METHODS: VEGFR2 and CD34 expression were assayed using immunohistochemistry in 333 MAPS patients (74.3%), and their prognostic value was evaluated in terms of overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in univariate and multivariate analyses, before validation by bootstrap methodology. RESULTS: Positive VEGFR2 or CD34 staining was observed in 234/333 (70.2%) and 322/323 (99.6%) of tested specimens, respectively. VEGFR2 and CD34 staining correlated weakly, yet significantly, with each other (r = 0.36, p < 0.001). High VEGFR2 expression or high CD34 levels were associated with longer OS in PM patients in multivariate analysis (VEGFR2: adjusted [adj.] hazard ratio [HR]: 0.91, 95% confidence interval [CI] [0.88; 0.95], p < 0.001; CD34: adj. HR: 0.86, 95 %CI [0.76; 0.96], p = 0.010), with only high VEGFR2 expression resulting in significantly longer PFS (VEGFR2: adj. HR: 0.96, 95 %CI [0.92; 0.996], p = 0.032). Stability of these results was confirmed using bootstrap procedure. Nevertheless, VEGFR2 expression failed to specifically predict longer survival in bevacizumab-chemotherapy combination trial arm, regardless of whether the VEGFR2 score was combined or not with serum VEGF concentrations. CONCLUSION: VEGFR2 overexpression independently correlated with longer OS or PFS in PM patients, such biomarker deserving prospective evaluation as stratification variable in future clinical trials.

BACKGROUND Cervical incompetence and deformities contribute significantly to mid-trimester pregnancy losses and preterm births. Abdominal cerclages prevent these complications, particularly in patients with a history of failed vaginal cerclage or severe cervical deformities. However, pregnancy complications such as chorioamnionitis and fetal demise may necessitate cerclage removal. The removal methods vary, with the least invasive being the colpotomy approach, associated with lower morbidity rates than the transabdominal approach or laparoscopy. CASE REPORT We detail a case involving a 31-year-old woman with a twin pregnancy at 18 weeks gestation, complicated by COVID-19 and chorioamnionitis. This clinical scenario necessitated the removal of an abdominal cerclage. Given the patient's risk profile, a posterior colpotomy approach was deemed most suitable. CONCLUSIONS The posterior colpotomy approach provided an effective and less risky method for abdominal cerclage removal in a high-risk patient. It successfully mitigated the potential complications of general anesthesia and operative risks associated with laparoscopy/laparotomy, offering optimal operative conditions.

Many studies pointed out the deleterious effects of high temperatures events during the crop reproductive phase on seed yield and quality. However, plant responses to repeated stressing events remain poorly understood, while the increased frequency of extreme abiotic constraints, such as spring and summer heat waves, has been proven as one feature of the on-going and future climate change. The responses of oilseed rape plants subjected to three heat stress sequences that differed in the intensity, the timing of application, the duration and the frequency of the high temperature events were investigated throughout the seed development and maturation phases under controlled conditions. Seed yield and components were measured in three different harvest dates. Biochemical and histological analyses of seeds were carried out in order to monitor the evolution of the main storage compounds (fatty acids, proteins, sugars) involved in seed nutritional quality. Although the effects of heat stress were not significant on total yield, differences in seed number and weight highlighted the strong compensation capacity in indeterminate growth species. Heat stress induced significant decreases and increases in seed oil and protein content respectively, to different extent according to the age of the pods. Soluble sugars concentrations were impacted by heat during seed development, but not when the seeds reached physiological maturity, thus indicating compensatory mechanisms that set up after the stress exposure. Our results led to conclude that the effects of repeated heat stresses on seed yield and quality were tightly related to (i) the optimal temperature of a given compound biosynthesis process, and (ii) the synchrony between the temperature event and the period of biosynthesis of the targeted storage compound. These results highlight the complexity to design thermo-sensitizing protocols to maintain or even improve the various seed quality related criteria, especially in species with indeterminate growth.

Introduction: We sought to develop a novel method for a fully automated, robust quantification of protein biomarker expression within the epithelial component of high-grade serous ovarian tumors (HGSOC). Rather than defining thresholds for a given biomarker, the objective of this study in a small cohort of patients was to develop a method applicable to the many clinical situations in which immunomarkers need to be quantified. We aimed to quantify biomarker expression by correlating it with the heterogeneity of staining, using a non-subjective choice of scoring thresholds based on classical mathematical approaches. This could lead to a universal method for quantifying other immunohistochemical markers to guide pathologists in therapeutic decision-making. Methods: We studied a cohort of 25 cases of HGSOC for which three biomarkers predictive of the response observed ex vivo to the BH3 mimetic molecule ABT-737 had been previously validated by a pathologist. We calibrated our algorithms using Stereology analyses performed by two experts to detect immunohistochemical staining and epithelial/stromal compartments. Immunostaining quantification within Stereology grids of hexagons was then performed for each histological slice. To define thresholds from the staining distribution histograms and to classify staining within each hexagon as low, medium, or high, we used the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM). Results: Stereology analysis of this calibration process produced a good correlation between the experts for both epithelium and immunostaining detection. There was also a good correlation between the experts and image processing. Image processing clearly revealed the respective proportions of low, medium, and high areas in a single tumor and showed that this parameter of heterogeneity could be included in a composite score, thus decreasing the level of discrepancy. Therefore, agreement with the pathologist was increased by taking heterogeneity into account. Conclusion and discussion: This simple, robust, calibrated method using basic tools and known parameters can be used to quantify and characterize the expression of protein biomarkers within the different tumor compartments. It is based on known mathematical thresholds and takes the intratumoral heterogeneity of staining into account. Although some discrepancies need to be diminished, correlation with the pathologist's classification was satisfactory. The method is replicable and can be used to analyze other biological and medical issues. This non-subjective technique for assessing protein biomarker expression uses a fully automated choice of thresholds (GMM) and defined composite scores that take the intra-tumor heterogeneity of immunostaining into account. It could help to avoid the misclassification of patients and its subsequent negative impact on therapeutic care.

Over the past few decades, male fertility has been decreasing worldwide. Many studies attribute this outcome to endocrine disruptors exposure such as bisphenol A (BPA), which is a chemical compound used in plastics synthesis and exhibiting estrogenic activity. In order to assess how the window of exposure modulates the effects of BPA on the testis, prepubertal (15 dpp to 30 dpp) and pubertal (60 dpp to 75 dpp) male Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to BPA (50 µg/kg bw/day), 17-ß-estradiol (E2) (20 µg/kg bw/day) as a positive control, or to a combination of these compounds. For both periods of exposure, the rats were sacrificed and their testes were collected at 75 dpp. The histological analysis and the quantification of the gene expression of testis cell markers by RT-qPCR confirmed the complete spermatogenesis in all groups for both periods of exposure. However, our results suggest a deleterious effect of BPA on the blood-testis barrier in adults after pubertal exposure as BPA and BPA+E2 treatments induced a decrease in caveolin-1 and connexin-43 gene expression; which are proteins of the junctional complexes. As none of these effects were found after a prepubertal exposure, these results suggested the reversibility of BPA's effects. Caution must be taken when transposing this finding to humans and further studies are needed in this regard. However, from a regulatory perspective, this study emphasizes the importance of taking into account different periods of exposure, as they present different sensitivities to BPA exposure.

During the last two decades, MALDI-ToF mass spectrometry has become an efficient and widely-used tool for identifying clinical isolates. However, its use for classification and identification of environmental microorganisms remains limited by the lack of reference spectra in current databases. In addition, the interpretation of the classical dendrogram-based data representation is more difficult when the quantity of taxa or chemotaxa is larger, which implies problems of reproducibility between users. Here, we propose a workflow including a concurrent standardized protein and lipid extraction protocol as well as an analysis methodology using the reliable spectra comparison algorithm available in MetGem software. We first validated our method by comparing protein fingerprints of highly pathogenic bacteria from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) open database and then implemented protein fingerprints of environmental isolates from French Guiana. We then applied our workflow for the classification of a set of protein and lipid fingerprints from environmental microorganisms and compared our results to classical genetic identifications using 16S and ITS region sequencing for bacteria and fungi, respectively. We demonstrated that our protocol allowed general classification at the order and genus level for bacteria whereas only the Botryosphaeriales order can be finely classified for fungi.

This study investigated the effects of varying environmental Ca2+ concentrations on the influx of Ca2+ to the testis, testicular morphology, and liver enzymes in the zebrafish. Adult zebrafish (Danio rerio) were held in water containing low (0.02 mM), control (0. 7 mM) or high (2 mM) Ca2+ concentrations for 12 h. Testes were then incubated in vitro with 0.1 µCi/mL 45Ca2+ to measure Ca2+ influx at 30 and 60 min and qualitative and quantitative testicular histological analyses were conducted. In addition, activity of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), enzymes that indicate tissue damage, were evaluated in the liver. The testes from zebrafish exposed in vivo to low (0.02 mM) and high (2 mM) Ca2+ content water had a higher Ca2+ influx than the control group after 30 min of incubation, and at 60 min (high Ca2+ group only). There were morphological changes in the testes from the low and high Ca2+ groups including spermatozoa distributed in dense agglomerates and apoptotic cells. Furthermore, zebrafish exposed to high Ca2+ containing water had an increased density of haploid cells (spermatids and spermatozoa). In addition, both low and high Ca2+ water affected liver function by increasing ALT and GGT activities. Collectively, these studies show that alterations in calcium homeostasis in the testis, stimulation of the spermatogenic wave and hepatic injury were rapid responses to changes in the concentration of Ca2+ in the water.

Annonaceous acetogenins are natural products held responsible for atypical Parkinsonism due to chronic consumption in traditional medicine or as food, leading to the development of analytical strategies for their complete chemical characterization in complex mixtures. Characterization by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) of acetogenins using collision-induced dissociation from lithium adducts provides additional structural information compared to protonated or sodiated species such as ketone location on the acetogenin backbone. However, very low intensity diagnostic ions together with the lack of extensive structural information regarding position of OH and THF substituents limit this approach. Copper adducts led to diagnostic fragment ions that allow us to identify the position of oxygen rings and hydroxyl substituents. Fragmentation rules were established on the basis of acetogenin standards allowing the identification of 45 over the 77 analogues observed in an extract of Annona muricata by LC-MS/MS using postcolumn infusion of copper sulfate (CuSO4) solution. Molecular networks that were generated thanks to specific fragmentations obtained with copper led to the distinction of THF ring position or to the identification of hydroxylated lactone, for instance.

Social insects are in mutualism with microorganisms, contributing to their resistance against infectious diseases. The fungus Pseudallescheria boydii SNB-CN85 isolated from termites produces ovalicin derivatives resulting from the esterification of the less hindered site of the ovalicin epoxide by long-chain fatty acids. Their structures were elucidated using spectroscopic analysis and semisynthesis from ovalicin. For ovalicin, these compounds displayed antiprotozoal activities against Plasmodium falciparum and Trypanosoma brucei, with IC50 values of 19.8 and 1.1 µM, respectively, for the most active compound, i.e., ovalicin linoleate. In parallel, metabolomic profiling of a collection of P. boydii strains associated with termites made it possible to highlight this class of compounds together with tyroscherin derivatives in all strains. Finally, the complete genome of P. boydii strains was obtained by sequencing, and the cluster of potential ovalicin and ovalicin biosynthesis genes was annotated. Through these metabolomic and genomic analyses, a new ovalicin derivative named boyden C, in which the 6-membered ring of ovalicin was opened by oxidative cleavage, was isolated and structurally characterized.

The Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, is a successive irregular hermaphrodite mollusk which has an annual breeding cycle. Oysters are naturally diploid organisms, but triploid oysters have been developed for use in shellfish aquaculture, with the aim of obtaining sterile animals with commercial value. However, studies have shown that some triploid oysters are partially able to undergo gametogenesis, with numerous proliferating cells closed to diploids (3n alpha) or a partial one with an accumulation of locked germ cells (3n beta). The aim of our study therefore was to understand the regulation of spermatogenesis in both groups of triploid oysters (alpha and beta) from the beginning of spermatogenesis, during mitosis and meiosis events. Our results demonstrate that the reduced spermatogenesis in triploids results from a deregulation of the development of the germinal lineage and the establishment of the gonadal tract led by a lower number of tubules. Morphological cellular investigation also revealed an abnormal condensation of germ cell nuclei and the presence of clear patches in the nucleoplasm of triploid cells, which were more pronounced in beta oysters. Furthermore, studies of molecular and cellular regulation showed a downregulation of mitotic spindle checkpoint in beta oysters, resulting in disturbance of chromosomal segregation, notably on spindle assembly checkpoint involved in the binding of microtubules to chromosomes. Taken together, our results suggest that the lower reproductive ability of triploid oysters may be due to cellular and molecular events such as impairment of spermatogenesis and disruptions of mitosis and meiosis, occurring early and at various stages of the gametogenetic cycle.

This study investigated the in vitro and short-term in vivo effects of Bisphenol A (BPA) on testicular energy metabolism and morphology in the zebrafish (Danio rerio). Testes were incubated in vitro for 1 h or fish were exposed in vivo to BPA in the tank water for 12 h. Testicular lactate, glycogen and cholesterol were measured and 14C-deoxy-d-glucose uptake and activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were determined. In addition, testis samples from the in vivo exposures were subject to digital analysis of testicular cells using Ilastik software and the Pixel Classification module and estimation of apoptosis by Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) dUTP Nick-End Labeling (TUNEL) immunohistochemical analysis. Our results from in vitro studies showed that BPA at 10 pM and 10 µM decreased testicular lactate content, glycogen content and LDH activity, but increased testicular AST activity. In addition, only BPA at 10 pM significantly decreased testicular ALT activity and cholesterol content. However, 14C-deoxy-d-glucose uptake was not changed. Furthermore, our results from in vivo studies showed that 10 pM BPA but not 10 µM BPA reduced testicular content of lactate and glycogen. In addition, both BPA concentrations decreased AST activity, whereas only BPA at 10 µM reduced ALT activity. However, LDH activity was not changed. Additionally, both concentrations of BPA induced spermatocyte apoptosis and a decrease in the proportion of the surface area of spermatids and spermatozoa. Collectively these data suggest that short-term BPA exposure affects energy metabolism and spermatogenesis in male zebrafish.

In the area of cancer research, the development of new and potent inhibitors of anti-apoptotic proteins is a very active and promising topic. The small molecule MIM1 has been reported earlier as one of the first selective inhibitors of the anti-apoptotic protein Mcl-1. In the present paper, we first revised the structure of this molecule based on extensive physicochemical analyses. Then we designed and synthesized a focused library of analogues for the corrected structure of MIM1. Next, these molecules were subjected to a panel of in cellulo biological studies, allowing the identification of dual Bcl-xL/Mcl-1 inhibitors, as well as selective Mcl-1 inhibitors. These results have been complemented by fluorescence polarization assays with the Mcl-1 protein. Preliminary structure-activity relationships were discussed and extensive molecular modelling studies allowed us to propose a rationale for the biological activity of this series of new inhibitors, in particular for the selectivity of inhibition of Mcl-1 versus Bcl-xL.

Type 1 tunneling nanotubes (TNTs-1) are long, cytoplasmic protrusions containing actin, microtubules and intermediate filaments that provide a bi-directional road for the transport of various components between distant cells. TNT-1 formation is accompanied by dramatic cytoskeletal reorganization offering mechanical support for intercellular communication. Although the centrosome is the major microtubule nucleating center and also a signaling hub, the relationship between the centrosome and TNTs-1 is still unexplored. We provide here the first evidence of centrosome localization and orientation towards the TNTs-1 protrusion site, which is implicated in TNT-1 formation. We also envision a model whereby synchronized reorientation of the Golgi apparatus along with the centrosome towards TNTs-1 ensures effective polarized trafficking through TNTs-1. Furthermore, using immunohistochemistry and live imaging, we observed for the first time the movement of an extra centrosome within TNTs-1. In this regard, we hypothesize a novel role for TNTs-1 as a critical pathway serving to displace extra centrosomes and potentially to either protect malignant cells against aberrant centrosome amplification or contribute to altering cells in the tumor environment. Indeed, we have observed the increase in binucleation and proliferation markers in receiving cells. The fact that the centrosome can be both as the base and the user of TNTs-1 offers new perspectives and new opportunities to follow in order to improve our knowledge of the pathophysiological mechanisms under TNT control.

To discover microorganisms that naturally possess chemical weapons against the phytopathogen Fusarium oxysporum, the biological and chemical diversity of plant leaf endophytes was investigated. Endophytes were isolated from the palm tree Astrocaryum sciophyllum collected in pristine forests of French Guiana. Several Xylariaceae inhibited the growth of F. oxysporum and were further explored. Antifungal specialized metabolites were isolated from the Xylariaceae BSNB-0294 strain in confrontation with the phytopathogen and led to the identification of undescribed compounds, i.e., two depsipeptides named xylariaceins, two metabolites containing a 3-imidazolinone moiety, and four new compounds including a nitro-phenylpropanamide and three phenylalanine analogues named xylariains A-D. In parallel, the chemical investigation of the phytopathogen during the coculture led to the identification of an unknown compound, which we named focicin. The production of focicin was exacerbated during the competition. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization coupled to time-of-flight mass spectometry (MALDI-TOF MS) imaging of the competition between BSNB-0294 (endophytic strain) and F. oxysporum f.sp. ciceris (phytopathogen) highlighted time-dependent chemical interactions between the two microorganisms.

Differences between computer-assisted image analysis (CAI) algorithms may cause discrepancies in the identification of immunohistochemically stained immune biomarkers in biopsies of breast cancer patients. These discrepancies have implications for their association with disease outcome. This study aims to compare three CAI procedures (A, B and C) to measure positive marker areas in post-neoadjuvant chemotherapy biopsies of patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and to explore the differences in their performance in determining the potential association with relapse in these patients. A total of 3304 digital images of biopsy tissue obtained from 118 TNBC patients were stained for seven immune markers using immunohistochemistry (CD4, CD8, FOXP3, CD21, CD1a, CD83, HLA-DR) and were analyzed with procedures A, B and C. The three methods measure the positive pixel markers in the total tissue areas. The extent of agreement between paired CAI procedures, a principal component analysis (PCA) and Cox multivariate analysis was assessed. Comparisons of paired procedures showed close agreement for most of the immune markers at low concentration. The probability of differences between the paired procedures B/C and B/A was generally higher than those observed in C/A. The principal component analysis, largely based on data from CD8, CD1a and HLA-DR, identified two groups of patients with a significantly lower probability of relapse than the others. The multivariate regression models showed similarities in the factors associated with relapse for procedures A and C, as opposed to those obtained with procedure B. General agreement among the results of CAI procedures would not guarantee that the same predictive breast cancer markers were consistently identified. These results highlight the importance of developing additional strategies to improve the sensitivity of CAI procedures.
