RESUMO

UNLABELLED: The aim of the study is to find the correlation between bone turnover markers and bone mineral density in a cohort of Moroccan postmenopausal women. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study, conducted over a period of 12 months from October 2008 to November 2009. Five hundred Moroccan postmenopausal women volunteers participated in this study and we included only 185. RESULTS: In this cohort of 185 women, average age 60 years, the percentage of osteoporotic women was 35.7%, they were older 62.09 (9.13) years and they had an average of the body mass index (BMI), the lowest 29.58 (4.45). The values of the bone mineral density (BMD) measured at the lumbar spine correlated positively and significantly with BMI (P<0.001), serum calcium (P=0.026), negatively with age (P<0.001) and osteocalcin (OC) (P=0.0033). As for the results of BMD measured at the femoral neck, they show a negative and highly significant correlation with age (P<0.001) and osteocalcin. Looking for an association between the biochemical markers of bone remodeling, a weak positive correlation was found between the calcium (Ca) and alkaline phosphatase (PAL) on the one hand and Ca and intact parathyroid hormone (PTHi) in the other hand. And a significant positive correlation was found between PTHi and PAL, and between PTHi and OC. Finally, a significant positive correlation was found between the cross-laps (ß-CTX) and Ca and between PAL and OC. CONCLUSION: Our results are in agree to some international studies and disagree to others.

RESUMO

Tinea capitis (TC) is a contagious infection that affects mainly children and teenagers. A retrospective study was realized at the mycology-parasitology department of the Ibn Sina hospital in Rabat, Morocco. The study includes 125 cases of TC. The mean age is 12.73 ± 11.61 year. The isolation of TC is dominated by two species Trichophyton violaceum 76 (60.8%) and Microsporum canis 27 (21.6%). Trichophyton verrucosum was isolated only in male and all of rural origin. In adults over 18 years, the most isolated species is T. violaceum (six cases) in females. For the last thirty years, the epidemiological profile of TC remains almost the same in Morocco.

RESUMO

Cancer chemotherapy is responsible for infections by decreasing the phagocytosis and chemotaxis of polymorphonuclear. We conducted a retrospective analysis during the period from 18/10/2006 to 21/05/2008, on all bacteria isolated from blood cultures performed in the department of clinical hematology at the hospital military instruction Mohamed V. One hundred and sixty two blood isolates were selected; Gram positive cocci (CGP) accounted for 60.34% and Gram negative bacilli (GNB) for 24.14%. Coagulase negative staphylococci (SNA) and S. aureus presented a resistance to methicilline respectively 54.55% and 22.22%. Prevalence of Gram positive cocci is consistent with the results of the EORTC (International Antimicrobial Therapy Cooperative Group). Analysis of resistance patterns of all species, except for staphylococci, showed phenotypes essentially community, sometimes wild. In conclusion probabilistic antibiotic treatement of bacteraemia in the haematology department should focus among other staphylococci resistant to methicilline.
