RESUMO
The overall objective of this research project was to investigate the feasibility of incorporating 100% recycled aggregates, either waste precast concrete or waste asphalt planning, as replacements for virgin aggregates in structural concrete and to determine the mechanical and environmental performance of concrete containing these aggregates. Four different types of concrete mixtures were designed with the same total water cement ratio (w/c=0.74) either by using natural aggregate as reference or by totally replacing the natural aggregate with recycled material. Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) was used as a mineral addition (35%) in all mixtures. The test results showed that it is possible to obtain satisfactory performance for strength characteristics of concrete containing recycled aggregates, if these aggregates are sourced from old precast concrete. However, from the perspective of the mechanical properties, the test results indicated that concrete with RAP aggregate cannot be used for structural applications. In terms of leaching, the results also showed that the environmental behaviour of the recycled aggregate concrete is similar to that of the natural aggregate concrete.

The objective of the present study was to investigate the relationship between leptin and bone mineral density in postmenopausal Turkish women. A total of 122 healthy postmenopausal women were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Blood samples were obtained for analysis of serum leptin. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry at the lumbar spine, femoral neck and trochanter on the same day. Leptin levels was significantly correlated with BMD of L(1-4) (P = 0.04), but not of femoral neck (P = 0.13), and trochanter (P = 0.39). However, Z scores of L(1-4) (P = 0.009), femur neck (P = 0.009), and femur trochanter (P = 0.025) were positively correlated with leptin levels. In multiple linear regression analysis, leptin was not found to be a statistically significant independent predictor for BMD. Leptin was associated with BMD and Z scores at various body sites; however, it was not an independent predictor of BMD.

We report a case of a 48-year-old woman with a complaint of chronic pelvic pain with a pelvic mass not related with uterus or adnexes. Preoperative ultrasonography or contrast enhanced computed tomography did not give accurate information on the origin of tumor. At laparotomy a cystic, retroperitoneal mass was totally resected without rupture. Final histopathological examination revealed that cystic spaces with abundant lymphocytes suggesting lymphangioma. No recurrence was detected in the follow up 6 months after total resection. As a result cystic lymphangioma should be considered as a rare cause of pelvic mass in women.
