RESUMO

A series of investigations have demonstrated the anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, analgesic, and vegetocorrective effects of extraocular selective polarized chromotherapy using blue and red light and the possibility to optimize autonomous regulation with the help of this technique. The results of the study confirmed the high clinical effectiveness and safety of the method being considered for the treatment of acute respiratory diseases, chronic tonsillitis, cervical dorsopathies, and vegetative dysfunction.

RESUMO

The possibility of using water-soluble substance extracted from P. fruticosa in experimental Coxsackie B3 virus infection in newborn mice was studied. The curative action of the extract was studied by its injection to the infected animals for 7 days and its prophylactic action--by introducing it 24 hours and, repeatedly, 1 hour before infection. The study revealed the increase of such characteristics as survival rate, mean survival time, body weight dynamics, as well as decreased level of virus accumulation in the brain, liver and heart tissues of the animalsunder experiment. The immunomodulating properties of the extract were shown.

RESUMO

Studied within the present case study was the antiviral and viricidal activity of the water-soluble polyphenol complex, obtained from Penthaphylloides fruticosa (L.) O. Schwarz, in respect to Enteroviruses Coxsackie B. The complex had a low toxicity and high chemotherapeutic index when introduced experimentally in the cell culture. The therapeutic effect of the water-soluble extract was detected in an experimental infection of newborn mice caused by Coxsackievirus B3. The interferongenic and immunostimulating action of the drug were demonstrated. The results obtained are in favor of further research of the extract as of a promising antiviral drug.

RESUMO

A total of 67 patients with diseases of the blood system and infectious complications, admitted to the Hematological Department of the Novosibirsk Regional Clinical Hospital, were examined. For this study only patients with etiologically established diagnosis were taken. The study revealed that Pseudomonas sp., whose strains were susceptible to Ceftazidime in 100% of cases and resistant to Cefepime and Imipenem in 15-17% of cases, was the etiological agent of 13.6% of all cases of infectious complications in hemoblastosis patients. Infectious lesions of pulmonary parenchyma, the presence of chronic diseases of the respiratory tract in the medical history, neutropenia, artificial ventilation of the lungs were found to be adverse prognostic factors with respect to a high risk of Pseudomonas infection in such patients. Therapy with glucocorticosteroids and cytostatics, preceding antibacterial prophylaxis were not linked with the isolation of Pseudomonas from the patients exhibiting the same levels of lethality and severity of infectious complications.

RESUMO

A total of 67 patients with blood system diseases and infectious complications were examined. During the period of the examination 139 microorganisms were isolated. Of these gram negative microorganisms constituted 51%, gram positive microorganisms--34.8% and fungal flora--14.2%. Most frequently the following gram negative microorganisms were isolated from the patients: Pseudomonas sp. (including P. aeruginosa), Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae. All isolated microorganisms retained sensitivity to imipenem, with the exception of individual strains of Pseudomonas sp.; the latter exhibited sensitivity to amicacin and ceftazidim. Cefotaxime was active with respect to 75% of K. pneumoniae strains and all E. coli strains, ciprofloxacin was active with respect to 43% of E. coli strains, 80% of K. pneumoniae strains and 83.4% of Pseudomonas sp. strains, cefepim was active with respect to 85.7% of Pseudomonas sp. strains and all E. coli strains, ceftazidim was active with respect to all Pseudomonas sp. and E. coli strains. 75% of K. pneumoniae strains, 77.8% of Pseudomonas sp. strains and 86% of E. coli strains retained sensitivity to amicacin. 25% of K. pneumoniae strains required testing for ESBL production.

RESUMO

The short-term (1-7 days) and prolonged (30-90 days) adaptation of bacteria to hypomagnetic conditions was studied by observing changes in growth rate and resistance to antibiotics in E. coli used as an experimental model. The decrease of the growth rate of bacterial cells in the exponential phase was found to occur. The effect disappeared when the screened culture was placed under normal geomagnetic conditions for 1 hour daily. After prolonged screening an increase in the resistance of these bacteria to kanamycin and carbenicillin was registered. These changes were not hereditary: after the cessation of screening the sensitivity of the bacteria to antibiotics was restored.

RESUMO

The therapeutic effect of nonsteroid antiinflammatory drugs (pyrazolone and salicylate derivatives) and their combinations with acyclovir was assessed in experimental herpesvirus infection in cell culture and in mice. A combination of 4-iodoantipyrine and acyclovir protected mice from herpesvirus encephalitis. This effect was associated with a decrease of the level of the virus in mouse brain and an increase of the titers of serum interferon and virus neutralizing antibodies.

RESUMO

The antiviral activity of iodantipyrine-4 belonging to the group of nonsteroid anti-inflammatory compounds was studied in inbred white mice of 10-12 g given a single subcutaneous injection of the Absettarov strain of tick-borne encephalitis virus. Iodantipyrine-4 in different doses was administered orally or parenterally, and the animals were observed for 21 days. In the group of mice infected with 10 LD50 of TBE virus which were treated with the drug orally in a dose of 50 mg/kg a reliable therapeutic effect was established in 60%, after parenteral injection in 53.4%. Prophylactic administration of the drug followed by challenge with 10 LD50 of virus was effective in 47% of mice. In the group of mice infected with 100 LD50 of the virus the therapeutic effect was observed in 38% and prophylactic in 30%. Iodantipyrine-4 was found to induce interferon production.

RESUMO

The investigation of interferon status in 54 diabetes mellitus patients gave evidence for high levels of blood serum interferon, leukocyte inhibition of alpha-interferon production against moderate synthesis of gamma interferon. More marked alterations in the interferon status were registered in severe insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus complicated by angiopathies and running more than 5 years. Compensation of metabolic processes was not relevant to interferon status. Variations in the levels of alpha- and gamma-interferons in the course ob observation occurred in 30% of the patients.

RESUMO

An immunostimulating effect of PIF was studied. The augmentation of antibody production to Coxsackie A13 virus as well as protective effect during influenza infection have been found out in mice after PIF injections. An immunostimulating effect of PIF after SRBC immunization of mice has been also revealed. Possible mechanisms of immunostimulating effect of PIF are discussed.

RESUMO

There has been studied the influence of a number of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agents (NSAID ) on the humoral immune response of mice in immunization with erythrocytic and viral antigen. It has been found out that NSAID have immunomodulating effect, stimulating humoral immune response (4-iodantipyrine, 4-bromantipyrine) or suppressing it (butadione, sodium salicylate). Apparently the mechanism of NSAID ++ immunostimulating effect is related to the inhibition of T-suppressors ++ function by the latter ones.

RESUMO

Nonsteroid antiinflammatory agents (NAIA) such as antipyrine, butadion, acetylsalicylic acid, sodium salicylate, stampyrine and 4-iodantipyrine are not interferonogenic. Still, they stimulated interferonogenic action of poly(G).poly(C) in studies on animals. Relation between the interferon-stimulating action of the NAIA and their effect on activity of prostaglandin and the influence on the immune system was suggested.
