RESUMO

Objective To study the distribution characteristics of blood uric acid level and blood glucose status and their potential interaction in elderly hypertensive patients. Methods The randomized study enrolled elderly patients with essential hypertension who were treated in our hospital from January 2020 to January 2022 and received antihypertensive therapy. Collected patients’ sociodemographic information, medical history, treatment history, etc., and detected their blood uric acid and blood glucose levels. Analyzed and described the subjects’ basic characteristics and the distribution of blood uric acid and blood glucose, and the potential interaction between them. Results A total of 205 subjects were included in this study, including 108 males and 97 females, with an average age of 70.94 years and an average BMI of 23.19kg/m2. During the study period, the average blood pressure level was controlled at SBP 151.34±10.96mmHg and DBP 96.24±9.87mmHg, and the proportion of excellent blood pressure control reached 89.27%. The blood uric acid level of the subjects was elevated by increasing of subjects' age and BMI (P < 0.05), and blood glucose only elevated by the increasing of BMI (P < 0.001). High BMI, high DBP, family history of hypertension, high blood uric acid level, and current history of diabetes were risk factors for elevated hypertension grade. Conclusions High DBP, high BMI, high blood uric acid level, current history of diabetes and family history of hypertension are risk factors in elderly hypertensive patients, we could make clinical treatment strategies for these patients accordingly.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE@#This study aimed to assess the relationship between the body composition of children aged 3-5 years and breastfeeding status and duration.@*METHODS@#The study was conducted using data from the National Nutrition and Health Systematic Survey for children 0-17 years of age in China (CNHSC), a nationwide cross-sectional study. Breastfeeding information and potential confounders were collected using standardized questionnaires administered through face-to-face interviews. The body composition of preschool children was measured using bioelectrical impedance analysis. A multivariate linear regression model was used to assess the relationship between breastfeeding duration and body composition after adjusting for potential confounders.@*RESULTS@#In total, 2,008 participants were included in the study. Of these, 89.2% were ever breastfed and the median duration of breastfeeding was 12 months (IQR 7-15 months). Among children aged 3 years, the height-for-age Z-score (HAZ) for the ever breastfed group was lower than that for never breastfed group (0.12 vs. 0.42, P = 0.043). In addition, the weight-for-age Z-score (WAZ) of the ever breastfed group was lower than that of the never breastfed group (0.31 vs. 0.65, P = 0.026), and the WAZ was lower in children aged 4 years who breastfed between 12 and 23 months than in those who never breastfed. Compared to the formula-fed children, the fat-free mass of breastfed infants was higher for children aged 3 years (12.84 kg vs. 12.52 kg, P = 0.015) and lower for those aged 4 years (14.31 kg vs. 14.64 kg, P = 0.048), but no difference was detected for children aged 5 years (16.40 kg vs. 16.42 kg, P = 0.910) after adjusting for potential confounders. No significant difference was detected in the weight-for-height Z-score (WHZ), body mass index (BMI)-for-age Z-score (BAZ), fat-free mass index, and body fat indicators in the ever breastfed and never breastfed groups and among various breastfeeding duration groups for children aged 3-5 years.@*CONCLUSION@#No obvious associations were detected between breastfeeding duration, BMI, and fat mass indicators. Future prospective studies should explore the relationship between breastfeeding status and fat-free mass.

RESUMO

The common data model (CDM) is an important tool to facilitate the standardized integration of multi-source heterogeneous healthcare big data, enhance the consistency of data semantic understanding, and promote multi-party collaborative analysis. The data collections standardized by CDM can provide powerful support for observational studies, such as large-scale population cohort study. This paper provides an in-depth comparative analysis of the data storage structure, term mapping pattern, and auxiliary tools development of the three international typical CDMs, then analyzes the advantages and limitations of each CDM and summarizes the challenges and opportunities faced in the CDM application in China. It is expected that exploring the advanced technical concepts and practical patterns of foreign countries in data management and sharing will provide references for promoting FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) construction of healthcare big data in China and solving the current practical problems, such as the poor quality of data resources, the low degree of semantization, and the inabilities of data sharing and reuse.

RESUMO

Incorporation of inorganic piezoelectric ceramic nanoparticles into a highly elastic polymer matrix is an effective method to develop self-powered sensors and energy harvesters. Herein, a piezoelectrically enhanced nanogenerator (NG) obtained by dispersing lead-free BaTiO3 piezoelectric nanoparticles into elastic polydimethylsiloxane and further surface-modifying with a neoteric mosaic structure for self-powered sensing is proposed. The composites fabricated through this facile and low-cost approach exhibit enhanced voltage by a factor of 1.5 relative to those without modification and display improved mechanical properties with increased elongation at break (failure strain of 150%). The improved performance is mainly attributed to the embossed mosaic structure on the surface, which is theoretically verified by multiphysics simulation. The NGs exhibit highly sensitive and stable piezoelectric output under contact and noncontact working modes and can be applied to detect human vital signs, including bending of fingers and wrists, and various breathing activities, demonstrating wide applications in flexible and smart wearable electronics. The design of the neoteric mosaic structure could be extended to other composite-based NGs, offering significant advantages for the rational design of flexible electronics.

RESUMO

Biomimetic piezoelectric scaffolds provide a noninvasive method for in vivo cell regulation and tissue regeneration. Herein, considering the gradually varied piezoelectric properties of native cartilage and bone tissues, we fabricated biomimetic electrospun poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) nanofibrous mats with gradient piezoelectric properties to induce the integrated osteochondral differentiation of rat mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Nanofibrous mats are polarized under electric fields with linear variation of strength to generate gradient piezoelectricity, and cell adhesion-derived contraction forces could produce gradient piezoelectric potential on the scaffolds. Our results demonstrated that the piezoelectric potential could positively modulate cell adhesion, intracellular calcium transients, Ca2+ binding proteins, and differentiation-related genes. In addition, the differentiation of MSCs into osteogenic and chondrogenic lineages was integrated on a single scaffold at different areas with relatively high and low piezoelectricity values, respectively. The continuous gradient scaffold exhibited the potential to provide a smooth transition between the cartilage and bone, offering new insights to probe the regeneration mechanisms of the osteochondral tissue in a single scaffold and inspiring a future efficient and rational design of piezoelectric smart biomaterials for tissue engineering.

RESUMO

The mechanical and electrical properties of biomaterials are essential in cell function regulation during cell-biomaterial interaction. However, previous studies focused on probing cell regulation mechanisms under one type of stimulus, and a platform that enables the study of electromechanical coupling effects of a biomaterial on cells is still lacking. Here, we present an in-situ electromechanical testing and loading system to image live cells when co-cultured with electroactive biomaterials. The system can provide accurate and repeatable stretch on biomaterials and cells to mimic in vivo tension microenvironment. Besides, the integrated displacement transducer, force sensor, and electrical signal detector enable the real time detection of electromechanical signals on electroactive biomaterials under various stretch loading. Combined with a microscope, live cell imaging can be realized to probe cell behavior. The feasibility of the system is validated by culturing mesenchymal stem cells on piezoelectric nanofiber and conductive hydrogel. Experiment results show the device as a reliable and accurate tool to investigate electromechanical properties of biomaterials and probe essential features of live cells. Our system provides a way to correlate cell behavior with electromechanical cues directly and is useful for exploration of cell function during cell-biomaterial interaction.

RESUMO

Objectives: The objectives were to identify drugs related with anemia in children and evaluate the novelty of these correlations. Methods: The authors established a two-step method for detecting the relationship between drugs and anemia using electronic medical records (EMRs), which were obtained from 247,136 patients in Beijing Children's Hospital between 2007 and 2017. The authors extracted potential drugs by mining cases for hemoglobin abnormalities from the EMR and then performed a retrospective cohort study to correlate them with anemia by calculating the matched odds ratios and 95% confidence interval using unconditional logistic regression analysis. Results: In total, nine positive drug-anemia associations were identified. Among them, the correlations of drugs fluconazole (OR 3.95; 95%CI: 2.65-5.87) and cefathiamidine (OR 3.49; 95%CI: 2.94-4.15) with anemia were considered new signals in both children and adults. Three associations of drugs, vancomycin, cefoperazone-sulbactam and ibuprofen, with anemia were considered new signals in children. Conclusion: The authors detected nine signals of drug-induced anemia, including two new signals in children and adults and three new signals in children. This study could serve as a model for using EMR and automatic mining to monitor adverse drug reaction signals in the pediatric population.

RESUMO

Objectives: This study aimed to develop a procedure to explore the adverse drug reaction signals of drug-induced neutropenia (DIN) or drug-induced agranulocytosis (DIA) in children using an electronic health records (EHRs) database. Methods: A two-stage design was presented. First, the suspected drugs to induce DIN or DIA were selected. Second, the associations were evaluated by a retrospective cohort study. Results: Ten and five drugs were potentially identified to be associated with DIN and DIA, respectively. Finally, five (oseltamivir, chlorpheniramine, vancomycin, meropenem, and ganciclovir) and two (chlorpheniramine, and vancomycin) drugs were found to be associated with DIN and DIA, respectively. Of these, the association between oseltamivir and neutropenia (P = 9.83 × 10-9; OR, 2.10; 95% CI, 1.62-2.69) was considered as a new signal for both adults and children. Chlorpheniramine-induced neutropenia (P = 3.01 × 10-8; OR, 1.59; 95% CI, 1.35-1.87) and agranulocytosis (P = 3.16 × 10-7; OR, 3.76; 95% CI, 2.25-6.26) were considered as new signals in children. Other drugs associated with DIN or DIA were confirmed by previous studies. Conclusion: A method to detect signals for DIN and DIA has been described. Several pediatric drugs were found to be associated with DIN or DIA.

RESUMO

The characteristics of Friedel pairs in diffraction contrast tomography (DCT) are studied in the condition that the rotation axis of the sample is not exactly perpendicular to the incident X-ray direction. For the rotation axis approximately aligned along the vertical direction, the Friedel pairs close to the horizontal plane are insensitive to the non-perpendicularity of the rotation axis, and can be used to refine the sample-to-detector distance and X-ray energy, while the Friedel pairs close to the vertical direction are sensitive to the non-perpendicularity of the rotation axis, and can be used to determine the rotation axis orientation. The correct matching proportion of Friedel pairs decreases with increasing non-perpendicularity of the rotation axis. A method of data processing considering rotation axis misalignment is proposed, which significantly increases the correct matching and indexing proportions of the diffraction spots. A pure aluminium polycrystalline sample is investigated using DCT at beamline 4W1A of Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility. Based on the analysis of Friedel pairs, the sample-to-detector distance and X-ray energy are refined to be 8.67 mm and 20.04 keV, respectively. The non-perpendicular angle of the rotation axis is calculated to be 0.10°. With these refined geometric parameters, the matching proportion of the spatial position of diffraction spots is 90.62%. Three-dimensional reconstruction of the sample with 13 grains is realised using the algebraic reconstruction technique. It is demonstrated that the precise correction of the orientation of the sample rotation axis is effective in DCT suffering from rotation axis misalignment, and the higher accuracy in determining the rotation axis is expected to improve the reconstruction precision of grains.

RESUMO

By using static chamber-gas chromatographic techniques, the CH4 and N2O emissions from the paddy soil in southeast Hubei were measured. Four treatments were installed, i.e., no-tillage plus no-fertilization (NT0), conventional tillage plus no-fertilization (CT0), no-tillage plus fertilization (NTC), and conventional tillage plus fertilization (CTC). In all treatments, the CH4 emission had a seasonal variation of increasing first and decreasing then, while the N2O emission had no significant seasonal variation. Fertilization increased the CH4 and N2O emissions significantly. NT0 increased the CH4 emission and decreased the N2O emission significantly, compared with CT0; NTC only decreased the CH4 emission and increased the N2O emission slightly, compared with CTC. The analysis on the integrated greenhouse effect of CH4 and N2O showed that NT0 increased the effect by 25.9%, compared with CT0, while NTC decreased the effect by 10.1%, compared with CTC. Therefore, a reasonable arrangement of fertilization and no-tillage could reduce the integrated greenhouse effect of CH4 and N2O from paddy field.

RESUMO

Bacterial N-Acyl-L-homoserine lactones (AHLs)-mediated quorum sensing is involved in the regulation of diverse biological functions. As the bacterial pathogen population density increases, AHLs concentration secreted by pathogen reaches a threshold and then interacts with their intercellular receptor and triggers expression of virulence genes. It is a promising approach to biologically control bacterial disease in plants and animals by manipulating bacterial AHL-quorum sensing with AHLs-degrading enzyme and AHL analogue.
