RESUMO

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an acute infectious disease caused by a novel Bunyavirus infection with low population immunity and high mortality rate. Lacking specific therapies, the treatment measures vary with the severity of the disease, therefore, a case control study involved 394 SFTS patients was taken to determine risk factors for mortality. Comparative clinical data from the first 24 h after admission was collected through the electronic medical record system. Independent risk factors for death of SFTS were identified through univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression analyses. The results of the logistic regression were visualized using a nomogram which was created by downloading RMS package in the R program. In our study, four independent mortality risk factors were identified: advanced age(mean 70.45 ± 7.76 years), MODS, elevated APTT, and D-dimer. The AUC of the nomogram was 0.873 (0.832, 0.915), and the model passes the calibration test namely Unreliability test with P = 0.958, showing that the model's predictive ability is excellent. The nomogram to determine the risk of death in SFTS efficiently provide a basis for clinical decision-making for treatment.

RESUMO

Advancements in two-dimensional materials, particularly MXenes, have spurred the development of innovative composites through their integration with natural polymers such as sodium alginate (SA). Mxenes exhibit a broad specific surface area, excellent electrical conductivity, and an abundance of surface terminations, which can be combined with SA to maximize the synergistic effect of the materials. This article provides a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art techniques in the fabrication of SA/MXene composites, analyzing the resulting structural and functional enhancements with a specific focus on advancing the design of these composites for practical applications. A detailed exploration of SA/MXene composites is provided, highlighting their utility in various sectors, such as wearable electronics, wastewater treatment, biomedical applications, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. The review identifies the unique advantages conferred by incorporating MXene in these composites, examines the current challenges, and proposes future research directions to understand and optimize these promising materials thoroughly. The remarkable properties of MXenes are emphasized as crucial for advancing the performance of SA-based composites, indicating significant potential for developing high-performance composite materials.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Our goal was to access early and mid-term outcomes of a gutter-plugging chimney stent graft for treatment of Stanford type B aortic dissections in the clinical trial Prospective Study for Aortic Arch Therapy with stENt-graft for Chimney technology (PATENCY). METHODS: Between October 2018 and March 2022, patients with Stanford type B aortic dissections were treated with the Longuette chimney stent graft in 26 vascular centres. The efficiency and the incidence of adverse events over 12 months were investigated. RESULTS: A total of 150 patients were included. The technical success rate was 99.33% (149/150). The incidence of immediate postoperative endoleak was 5.33% (8/150, type I, n = 6; type II, n = 1; type IV, n = 1) neurologic complications (stroke or spinal cord ischaemia); the 30-day mortality was 0.67% (1/150) and 1.33% (2/150), respectively. During the follow-up period, the median follow-up time was 11.67 (5-16) months. The patent rate of the Longuette graft was 97.87%. Two patients with type I endoleak underwent reintervention. The follow-up rate of the incidence of retrograde A type aortic dissection was 0.67% (1/150). There was no paraplegia, left arm ischaemia or stent migration. CONCLUSIONS: For revascularization of the left subclavian artery, the Longuette chimney stent graft can provide an easily manipulated, safe and effective endovascular treatment. It should be considered a more efficient technique to prevent type Ia endoleak. Longer follow-up and a larger cohort are needed to validate these results. CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY NUMBER: NCT03767777.

RESUMO

Cryo-electron micrograph images have various characteristics such as varying sizes, shapes, and distribution densities of individual particles, severe background noise, high levels of impurities, irregular shapes, blurred edges, and similar color to the background. How to demonstrate good adaptability in the field of image vision by picking up single particles from multiple types of cryo-electron micrographs is currently a challenge in the field of cryo-electron micrographs. This paper combines the characteristics of the MixUp hybrid enhancement algorithm, enhances the image feature information in the pre-processing stage, builds a feature perception network based on the channel self-attention mechanism in the forward network of the Swin Transformer model network, achieving adaptive adjustment of self-attention mechanism between different single particles, increasing the network's tolerance to noise, Incorporating PReLU activation function to enhance information exchange between pixel blocks of different single particles, and combining the Cross-Entropy function with the softmax function to construct a classification network based on Swin Transformer suitable for cryo-electron micrograph single particle detection model (Swin-cryoEM), achieving mixed detection of multiple types of single particles. Swin-cryoEM algorithm can better solve the problem of good adaptability in picking single particles of many types of cryo-electron micrographs, improve the accuracy and generalization ability of the single particle picking method, and provide high-quality data support for the three-dimensional reconstruction of a single particle. In this paper, ablation experiments and comparison experiments were designed to evaluate and compare Swin-cryoEM algorithms in detail and comprehensively on multiple datasets. The Average Precision is an important evaluation index of the evaluation model, and the optimal Average Precision reached 95.5% in the training stage Swin-cryoEM, and the single particle picking performance was also superior in the prediction stage. This model inherits the advantages of the Swin Transformer detection model and is superior to mainstream models such as Faster R-CNN and YOLOv5 in terms of the single particle detection capability of cryo-electron micrographs.

RESUMO

All-solution-processed organic optoelectronic devices can enable the large-scale manufacture of ultrathin wearable electronics with integrated diverse functions. However, the complex multilayer-stacking device structure of organic optoelectronics poses challenges for scalable production. Here, we establish all-solution processes to fabricate a wearable, self-powered photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor. We achieve comparable performance and improved stability compared to complex reference devices with evaporated electrodes by using a trilayer device structure applicable to organic photovoltaics, photodetectors, and light-emitting diodes. The PPG sensor array based on all-solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes and photodetectors can be fabricated on a large-area ultrathin substrate to achieve long storage stability. We integrate it with a large-area, all-solution-processed organic solar module to realize a self-powered health monitoring system. We fabricate high-throughput wearable electronic devices with complex functions on large-area ultrathin substrates based on organic optoelectronics. Our findings can advance the high-throughput manufacture of ultrathin electronic devices integrating complex functions.

RESUMO

Current knowledge in three-dimensional (3D) chromatin regulation in normal and disease states was mostly accumulated through Hi-C profiling in in vitro cell culture system. The limitations include failing to recapitulate disease-specific physiological properties and often lacking clinically relevant disease microenvironment. In this study, we conduct tissue-specific Hi-C profiling in a pilot cohort of 12 breast tissues comprising of two normal tissues (NTs) and ten ER+ breast tumor tissues (TTs) including five primary tumors (PTs), and five tamoxifen-treated recurrent tumors (RTs). We find largely preserved compartments, highly heterogeneous topological associated domains (TADs) and intensively variable chromatin loops among breast tumors, demonstrating 3D chromatin-regulated breast tumor heterogeneity. Further cross-examination identifies RT-specific looping-mediated biological pathways and suggests CA2, an enhancer-promoter looping (EPL)-mediated target gene within the bicarbonate transport metabolism pathway, might play a role in driving the tamoxifen resistance. Remarkably, the inhibition of CA2 not only impedes tumor growth both in vitro and in vivo , but also reverses chromatin looping. Our study thus yields significant mechanistic insights into the role and clinical relevance of 3D chromatin architecture in breast cancer endocrine resistance.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The Talos stent-graft has extended length to improve aortic remodeling, and distal porous design to decrease the rate of spinal cord ischemia. This study retrospectively analyzed its mid-term outcomes for uncomplicated type B aortic dissection in a multicenter study. METHODS: The primary safety endpoint was 30-day major adverse events, including all-cause mortality, dissection-related mortality, conversion to open surgery, and device-related adverse events. The primary efficacy endpoint was treatment success at 12 months post-operation, defined as no technical failure or secondary dissection-related reintervention. The survival status of the patients was visualized using the Kaplan-Meier curve. Aortic growth was assessed at four levels, and spinal cord ischemia was evaluated at 12 months. RESULTS: 113 patients participated with a mean age of 54.4 (11.1) years and 71.7% (81/113) were male. The 30-day mortality was 0.9% (1/113), no conversions to open surgery or device-related adverse events were recorded. The 12-month treatment success rate was 99.1% (112/113), with no dissection-related reinterventions. There was no spinal cord or visceral ischemia at 12 months. At a median of 34 months follow-up, 9 further deaths were recorded and the 3-year survival rate was 91.7%. The percentage of aortic growth was 1.8% (2/111) at the tracheal bifurcation, 3.6% (4/111) below the left atrium, 6.0% (5/83) above the celiac artery, and 12.1% (9/74) below the lower renal artery. The total thrombosis rate of the false lumen at the stented segment was 80.5% (91/113). CONCLUSIONS: The results showed satisfactory results of Talos stent-graft in terms of safety and efficacy. More data are needed to confirm the long-term performance.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the safety and feasibility of left subclavian artery (LSA) revascularization techniques during thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR)-the in situ needle fenestration (ISNF) technique and the carotid-subclavian bypass (CS-Bp)-for complicated aortic pathologies. METHODS: A retrospective single-center observational study was conducted to identify all patients with thoracic aortic pathologies who underwent TEVAR with LSA revascularization using either CS-Bp or ISNFs from January 2014 to December 2020. RESULTS: One hundred and twelve consecutive patients who received TEVAR with LSA revascularization were included. Among them, 69 received CS-Bp and 43 received ISNF (29 using the Futhrough adjustable puncture needles, 14 using the binding stent-graft puncture systems). Technical success, defined as achieving aortic arch pathology exclusion and LSA preservation, was attained in 99.1% patients. Early mortality was 0.9%. Major adverse events within 30 days, including one cerebral hemorrhage, one cervical incision hemorrhage, one stroke and two paraplegia, were exclusively observed in the CS-Bp group. Immediate type I, II and III endoleaks occurred in 0%, 4.7% and 2.3% in the ISNF group, respectively, compared to 0%, 2.9% and 0% in the CS-Bp group. One hundred and eight (97.2%) patients were available for follow-up at a median 50 (maiximum of 103) months, revealing a LSA patency rates of 99.1%. Six patients died during follow-ups-five in the CS-Bp group and one in the ISNF group. Cause of death include one aortic-related stent-graft infection, three non-related and two with unknow causes. The survival exhibited no significantly different between the ISNF (97.7%) and CS-Bp (89.9%) groups (p = 0.22). CONCLUSIONS: Both CS-Bp and ISNF are feasible techniques for LSA reconstruction in TEVAR. ISNF, whether using Futhrough or BPS, seems to be competitive with CS-Bp.

RESUMO

Objective: Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) has been recognized as an important biomarker of cardiovascular disease and is closely related to inflammation over the past decade. This study aimed to assess the relationship between FGF23 and myocardial injury in patients with sepsis. Methods: We sequentially measured serum FGF23, Klotho, biomarkers of inflammation (CRP, IL-6 and WBC), myocardial injury (cTnI and N-terminal B-type natriuretic peptide) and sepsis (procalcitonin) at peak of intercurrent septic shock and after complete resolution or before death in a series of 29 patients with septic shock. 29 healthy adults without infections were used as controls. Results: There was a difference in serum FGF23 level between patients with septic shock and healthy adults (p < 0.0001), and the peak level of FGF23 in septic shock in the survivor group was higher than that after complete remission (p < 0.0001). No statistical difference was found in the level of FGF23 before and after treatment in the death group (p = 0.0947). At the peak of septic shock, FGF23 was significantly correlated with inflammatory markers, CRP (r = 0.8063, p < 0.0001), PCT (r = 0.6091, p = 0.0005) and WBC (r = 0.8312, p < 0.0001), while the correlation with IL-6 was not statistically significant (r = 0.0098, p = 0.9598). At the same time, it was found that FGF23 was significantly correlated with myocardial injury markers, cTNI (r = 0.8475, p < 0.0001) and NTproBNP (r = 0.8505, p < 0.0001). Nevertheless, FGF23 and klotho are not correlated (r = 0.2609, p = 0.1717). Conclusion: In conclusion, in patients with septic shock and myocardial injury, the exacerbation of inflammation in the septic process was accompanied by a abnormal increase of circulating FGF23 level. FGF23 also subsided after the improvement of inflammation, and the opposite was true for patients who did not survive. The up-regulation of FGF23 may be involved in the response of patients to septic shocks, and it is also speculated that FGF23 is involved in the myocardial injury of septic shock.

RESUMO

Background: Rickettsia japonica infection is a rare disease, it is rare to report critical and severe case caused by this disease in Zhejiang Province, China. Patient Concerns: We report a patient who initially sought medical attention due to fever and developed coma and convulsions during treatment. The patient did not develop typical eschar and rash. Eventually, the patient needed to be treated in the intensive care unit due to acute respiratory failure. Diagnoses: The patient was diagnosed with Rickettsia japonica bloodstream infection by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS). Outcomes: Due to the critical illness, the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit, received doxycycline and other treatments, and rapidly recovered and discharged. Conclusion: The patient developed a critical illness after being infected with Rickettsia, when the medical history is unclear and clinical symptoms and signs are atypical, it is necessary to use mNGS examination for diagnosis.

RESUMO

The main impediment to the development of zinc-air batteries is the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Transition metal N-doped carbon catalysts offer a promising alternative to noble metal catalysts, with metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived carbon material catalysts being particularly noteworthy. Here, we synthesized MxP-Z-C carbon catalysts by combining two-dimensional (2D) metal porphyrin-based MOFs (MxPMFs, x = Fe, Co, Ni, Mn) and three-dimensional zeolitic imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) through electrostatic interaction, followed by carbonization. ZIF-8 was inserted between the layers of MxPMFs to prevent its Π-Π stacking, allowing the active sites to become fully exposed. MxP-Z-C demonstrated an impressive catalytic activity for both the ORR and the OER reactions. Among them, FeP-Z-C showed the best catalytic activity. The half-wave potential for ORR was 0.92 V (vs the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE)), while the overpotential for the OER was 290 mV. In addition, the zinc-air battery assembled by FeP-Z-C exhibited high power density (133.14 mW cm-2) and significant specific capacity (816 mAh gZn-1), indicating considerable potential as a bifunctional catalyst for electronic devices.

RESUMO

In this study, we propose a meticulous method for the three-dimensional modeling of slope models using structured light, a swift and cost-effective technique. Our approach aims to enhance the understanding of slope behavior during landslides by capturing and analyzing surface deformations. The methodology involves the initial capture of images at various stages of landslides, followed by the application of the structured light method for precise three-dimensional reconstructions at each stage. The system's low-cost nature and operational convenience make it accessible for widespread use. Subsequently, a comparative analysis is conducted to identify regions susceptible to severe landslide disasters, providing valuable insights for risk assessment. Our findings underscore the efficacy of this system in facilitating a qualitative analysis of landslide-prone areas, offering a swift and cost-efficient solution for the three-dimensional reconstruction of slope models.

RESUMO

Iron has been found to be involved in the tumor cell proliferation process, which can lead to the increased sensitivity of cancer cells to ferroptosis. Since erianin is associated with oxidative stress in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), we hypothesized that the therapeutic effect and mechanism of erianin on HCC is related to ferroptosis. HCC cells were stimulated with increase of erianin concentrations for 24 h, and the survival rates of Huh-7 and HepG2 cells gradually decreased. After intervention with different doses of erianin, cell proliferation, clone number, and invasion were prominently decreased, apoptosis ratio was increased. Moreover, Nec-1, CQ, and Z-VAD had no effect on the cell viability induced by erianin, while the combination of ferroptosis inhibitors (deferoxamine mesylate, ferrostatin-1, and liproxstatin-1) and erianin prominently increased cell survival rate. Erianin pretreatment induced ferroptosis by enhancing reactive oxygen species, MDA, and Fe2+ levels, and reducing GSH levels. Erianin activated JAK2/STAT3 pathway and inhibited SLC7A11 and GPX4 expression, thereby inducing ferroptosis. Besides, tumor growth was significantly inhibited in the erianin-treated mice, and there was no obvious toxicity in the mice. Erianin reduced proliferation and invasion of HCC cells by inducing ferroptosis by blocking the JAK2/STAT3/SLC7A11 pathway, thereby impeding tumor growth.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the association between the outflow morphology and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) rupture risk, to find risk factors for future prediction models. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 46 patients with ruptured AAAs and 46 patients with stable AAAs using a 1:1 match for sex, age, and maximum aneurysm diameter. The chi-square test, paired t-test, and Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used to compare variables. Logistic regression was performed to evaluate variables potentially associated with AAA rupture. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and the area under the curve (AUC) were used to assess the regression models. RESULTS: Ruptured AAAs had a shorter proximal aortic neck (median (interquartile range, IQR): 24.0 (9.4-34.2) mm vs. 33.3 (20.0-52.8) mm, p = 0.004), higher tortuosity (median(IQR): 1.35 (1.23-1.49) vs. 1.29 (1.23-1.39), p = 0.036), and smaller minimum luminal area of the right common iliac artery (CIA) (median (IQR): 86.7 (69.9-126.4) mm2 vs. 118.9 (86.3-164.1)mm2, p = 0.001) and left CIA (median(IQR): 92.2 (67.3,125.1) mm2 vs. 110.7 (80.12, 161.1) mm2, p = 0.010) than stable AAA did. Multiple regression analysis demonstrated significant associations of the minimum luminal area of the bilateral CIAs (odds ratio [OR] = 0.996, 95 % confidence interval [CI] 0.991-0.999, p = 0.037), neck length (OR = 0.969, 95 % CI 0.941-0.993, p = 0.017), and aneurysm tortuosity (OR = 1.031, 95 % CI 1.003-1.063, p = 0.038) with ruptured AAAs. The AUC of this regression model was 0.762 (95 % CI 0.664-0.860, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The smaller minimum luminal area of the CIA is associated with an increased risk of rupture. This study highlights the potential of utilizing outflow parameters as novel and additional tools in risk assessment. It also provides a compelling rationale to further intensify research in this area.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To observe the short-term efficacy of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) using a single left common carotid artery chimney stent combined with a Castor single-branched stent-graft (SC-TEVAR) in the treatment of zone 2 (Z2) aortic diseases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: To conduct a retrospective analysis of 20 patients with Z2 aortic diseases who were treated in our department from June 2021 to April 2022. The lesions included true aortic degenerative aneurysms with diameter ≥5.0 cm and penetrating aortic ulcers with depth >1.0 cm or basal width >2.0 cm. All 20 patients accepted the SC-TEVAR treatment, which was a new hybrid method to assure the flow of the left common carotid artery (LCCA) and left subclavian artery (LSA). This method was defined as a concomitant chimney stent for LCCA and a Castor single-branched stent graft for the aorta and LSA. The baseline data and intraoperative data were collected to evaluate the safety and efficacy of this method. The patency of the target blood vessel and any associated complications were evaluated at 1 and 6 months postoperatively, to analyze the safety and efficacy of this new method. RESULTS: After discharge from the hospital, all patients were followed up by a specific follow-up team. At 6 monthly follow-up period, there were no cardiac events, stroke, hemiplegia, type I endoleak, type II endoleak, proximal stent graft-induced new entries, distal stent graft-induced new entries, wound infection, or bleeding. Only 1 patient developed an inguinal wound hematoma and got conservative treatment. Importantly, no patients developed stenosis or occlusion of the LCCA or LSA. The patency of branched arteries was 100%. The technical success rate was 90%. CONCLUSION: SC-TEVAR appears to be a new and relatively simple, safe, and effective treatment for Z2 aortic diseases. CLINICAL IMPACT: This was a single-center retrospective cohort study. A total of 20 patients with zone 2 aortic diseases accepted a new hybrid surgical method named SC-TEVAR. This method was not complicated and could be finished with only 3 peripheral artery exposure. The result showed no mortality, 100% patency of the branch artery, and 90% of technical success in 6 months of follow-up time. SC-TEVAR showed a satisfactory result in this retrospective study and could be promoted as an easy method to treat zone 2 aortic diseases.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Community-acquired pneumonia causes significant illness and death worldwide, requiring further investigation and intervention. The invasion of Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae, S.p) can lead to serious conditions like meningitis, sepsis, or pneumonia. Extracellular Cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (eCIRP) acts as a damage-associated molecular pattern that triggers inflammatory responses and plays an important role in both acute and chronic inflammatory diseases. It remains unclear whether CIRP is involved in the process of S. pneumoniae infection in normal human bronchial epithelial cells (BEAS-2B). METHODS: Cell counting kit (CCK)-8 assay was used to detect the activity of BEAS-2B cells. The subcellular localization of CIRP was detected by immunofluorescence. The mRNA and protein levels of CIRP, nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) p65, toll like receptor-4 (TLR4), interleukin-6 (IL-6) were detected using quantitative real-time PCR (PCR) and Western Blot (WB). The protein expressions of CIRP, IL-1ß, IL-6, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) were assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS: CIRP affects the activity of BEAS-2B cells induced by S. pneumoniae infection. After infection, CIRP translocates from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, thereby inducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, and MCP-1). Additionally, the NF-κB p65 protein increases in infected cells but decreases with si-CIRP interference. Treatment with TLR4 neutralizing antibodies or NF-κB inhibitor effectively reduces the expressions of IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, and MCP-1. CONCLUSIONS: The infection with S. pneumoniae upregulates CIRP expression and translocates it from the nucleus to the cytoplasm in BEAS-2B cells, leading to the release of proinflammatory factors via activation of NF-κB signaling pathway. CIRP as a key mediator in S. pneumoniae-induced inflammation offers potential targets for therapeutic intervention against community-acquired pneumonia.

RESUMO

The health effects of air pollution have become a major public health problem. Studies on the relationship between short-term exposure to air pollutants and upper respiratory tract infection (URTI) related clinic visits and expenditures were scarce. From January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2021, we included all the URTI cases that turned to 11 public hospitals in Kunshan, and summarized individual medical cost. Daily meteorological factors and 24-h mean concentrations of four common air pollutants, including particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter less than 2.5 µm (PM2.5) and 10 µm (PM10), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), were consecutively recorded. Generalized additive regression model was adopted to quantify the associations between each air pollutant and the daily clinic visits of URTI cases. We further calculated attributable number (AN) and attributable fraction, and performed sensitivity analysis by gender, age, and season. A total of 934,180 cases were retrieved during the study period. PM2.5, PM10, SO2, and NO2 showed significant associations with hospital visits and expenditures due to URTI. Relative risks for them were 1.065 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.055, 1.076), 1.045 (95% CI 1.037, 1.052), 1.098 (95% CI 1.038, 1.163), and 1.098 (95% CI 1.085, 1.111) on lag 0-5 days, respectively. Thirty-one thousand four hundred fifty-five (95% CI 27,457, 35,436) cases could be ascribed to increased NO2 and accounted for 3.37% (95% CI 2.94%, 3.79%) of all clinic visits. Sensitivity analyses indicated that the effects of air pollution were generally consistent for male and female. PM2.5, PM10, and NO2 had stronger associations among people aged ≤ 18 years, followed by those aged 19-64 years and ≥ 65 years. The association strengths of air pollution varied seasonally. Short-term exposure to ambient air pollutants had significant associations with clinic visits and expenditures owing to URTI. Children and adolescents appeared to be more susceptible to adverse health effects of air pollution. NO2 may be a priority when formulating pollution control measures.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To compare the 30-day and long-term outcomes between patients with concomitant type B intramural hematoma and intimal disruption upon admission who underwent endovascular repair in the acute or subacute phases. METHODS: Data were extracted from January 1, 2010, to December 31, 2019. Logistic regression and Cox regression were performed to evaluate the impact of timing of intervention on 30-day and long-term outcomes, respectively. RESULTS: The study included 241 patients, among which 159 were in the acute group. No significant difference was observed in 30-day mortality (0.6% vs. 0%, P = 1), 30-day complication rate (2.5% vs. 1.2%, P = 0.664), long-term all-cause mortality (10.7% vs. 7.3%, P = 0.540), and aortic reintervention rate (2.5% vs. 2.4%, P = 1) between the acute and subacute group. In multivariable analysis, the timing of intervention was not associated with 30-day mortality (odds ratio (OR) = 0, 95% confidence interval CI: 0-Inf, P = 0.999), 30-day complication (OR = 0.30, 95% CI: 0.02-3.77, P = 0.348), long-term mortality (hazard ratio = 0.56, 95% CI: 0.20-1.61, P = 0.283), and aortic reintervention (OR = 0.97, 95% CI: 0.15-6.08, P = 0.970). CONCLUSIONS: For patients with concomitant type B intramural hematoma and intimal disruption upon admission, there is no significant difference in 30-day and long-term outcomes between those who undergo endovascular treatment in the acute or subacute phase.

RESUMO

As a promising solution to address the global challenge of freshwater scarcity, solar-powered interfacial steam generation has undergone notable advancements. This study introduces a novel solar-driven interfacial evaporation membrane (ZnIn2S4@SiO2/ACSA, ZSAS) comprising a ZnIn2S4@SiO2 composite and a black sodium alginate aerogel infused with activated carbon. The ZSAS membrane demonstrates exceptional light absorption and thermal insulation, leading to elevated surface temperatures and reduced heat dissipation into the bulk water. Furthermore, the incorporation of AC reinforces the mechanical properties of the ZSAS membrane and enhances the water purification performance. These collective features result in an impressive evaporation rate of 1.485 kg m-2 h-1 and a high photothermal conversion efficiency of 91.2% under 1 sun irradiation for the optimal ZSAS membrane. Moreover, the optimal ZSAS membrane can effectively remove salts, heavy metal ions, and organic pollutants, benefitting from its superior evaporation separation effect and the photocatalytic properties of the ZnIn2S4@SiO2 composite.

RESUMO

In this case report, a 53-year-old woman was diagnosed with severe NE after receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer. The patient with breast cancer was treated with a single cycle of docetaxel (140 mg) + epirubicin (130 mg) + cyclophosphamide (0.9 g) chemotherapy. However, the woman presented with symptoms of fatigue and diarrhea 5 days later accompanied with severe neutropenia according to the routine blood test. The computed tomography examination displayed the thickening and swelling of the colorectal wall. After the diagnosis of NE, the woman received antibiotics and supportive treatment, but her symptoms were not improved. The Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) diagnostic pattern was then designed for the patient. The patient was administered with two CHM decoctions. One decoction contained 24 kinds of herbal materials, and the other one was called pure ginseng decoction. These two decoctions were administered to the patient 2 or 3 times per day to tonify the spleen, nourish Qi and blood, and remove phlegm and damp heat symptoms. After the CHM treatment lasting for 10 days, the symptoms of the patient were improved, and she was discharged. In conclusion, CHM treatment played an indispensable role in curing the woman with chemotherapy-induced NE.
