OBJECTIVE: An increasing body of evidence suggests a positive role of chiropractic in the treatment of neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. This study aims to explore current research hotspots and trends, providing insights into the broad prospects of this field. METHODS: A bibliometric review was conducted on all chiropractic articles included in the Web of Science Core Collection before December 31, 2023. RESULTS: Over the past century, the volume of research in the field of chiropractic has been fluctuating annually, with four peaks observed in total. The United States, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom are leading countries. Chu, Eric Chun-Pu is the author with the most publications, while Bronfort, Gert has the highest total citation count. The University of Southern Denmark has produced the most publications, while Queens University - Canada is the most central institution. The Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics is the journal with the most publications and citations, while the Journal of the American Medical Association is the most central journal. The two most-cited articles were both authored by Eisenberg DM. Emerging keywords include "chronic pain" and "skills". The theoretical mechanisms and scientific basis of chiropractic, its clinical practice and safety, education and training, integration with other disciplines, and patient experiences and satisfaction are the frontiers and hotspots of research. CONCLUSION: This study integrates bibliometric analysis to summarize the current state of research and global network centers in the field of chiropractic, further highlighting the hotspots and trends in this field. However, Individual and national rankings should be interpreted with caution due to our focus on Web of Science rather than PubMed.

The challenges posed by delayed atrophic healing and nonunion stand as formidable obstacles in osteoporotic fracture treatment. The processes of type H angiogenesis and osteogenesis emerge as pivotal mechanisms during bone regeneration. Notably, the preconditioning of adipose-derived stem cell (ADSC) exosomes under hypoxic conditions has garnered attention for its potential to augment the secretion and functionality of these exosomes. In the present investigation, we embarked upon a comprehensive elucidation of the underlying mechanisms of hypo-ADSC-Exos within the milieu of osteoporotic bone regeneration. Our findings revealed that hypo-ADSC-Exos harboured a preeminent miRNA, namely, miR-21-5p, which emerged as the principal orchestrator of angiogenic effects. Through in vitro experiments, we demonstrated the capacity of hypo-ADSC-Exos to stimulate the proliferation, migration, and angiogenic potential of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) via the mediation of miR-21-5p. The inhibition of miR-21-5p effectively attenuated the proangiogenic effects mediated by hypo-ADSC-Exos. Mechanistically, our investigation revealed that exosomal miR-21-5p emanating from hypo-ADSCs exerts its regulatory influence by targeting sprouly1 (SPRY1) within HUVECs, thereby facilitating the activation of the PI3K/AKT signalling pathway. Notably, knockdown of SPRY1 in HUVECs was found to potentiate PI3K/AKT activation and, concomitantly, HUVEC proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis. The culminating stage of our study involved a compelling in vivo demonstration wherein GelMA loaded with hypo-ADSC-Exos was validated to substantially enhance local type H angiogenesis and concomitant bone regeneration. This enhancement was unequivocally attributed to the exosomal modulation of SPRY1. In summary, our investigation offers a pioneering perspective on the potential utility of hypo-ADSC-Exos as readily available for osteoporotic fracture treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the anti-BP230/180 and anti-BP180 antibodies in patients with bullous pemphigoid (BP) combined with neurological diseases, and to analyse the relevant factors. STUDY DESIGN: Analytical study. Place and Duration of the Study: Neurology Department, Cangzhou People's Hospital, Cangzhou, from April 2019 to June 2022. METHODOLOGY: Eighty BP patients were chosen based on associated neurological diseases, they were split into single (n=42) and combined groups (n=38). Expression of anti-BP180/230 antibodies was compared between the two groups. Associations with neurological diseases were analysed and the factors affecting the expression of anti-BP180/230 antibodies were explored. RESULTS: Out of 80 patients, 61 were positive for anti-BP180 antibodies and 58 were positive for anti-BP230 antibodies. The proportion of patients with positive anti-BP230/180 antibodies in the single group was considerably lower than in the combined group (p<0.05). Presence of both nervous system diseases and BP was found to be associated with the presence of anti-BP230/180 antibodies (p<0.001). Univariate analysis showed statistically significant association with age (<70 years, total IgE (>100 IU/ml), and EOS count >0.5 x 109/L (p<0.05). Logistic analysis demonstrated that age, total IgE and EOS count were independent risk factors affecting the expression of anti-BP180 and anti-BP23 antibodies (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: Serum anti-BP230/180 antibodies expression is abnormally high in BP patients having nervous system diseases. Combined nervous system diseases, age, total IgE and EOS count are independent risk factors affecting expression of anti-BP180/230 antibodies. AIMS: The overexpression of ABC transporters on cancer cell membranes is one of the most common causes of multidrug resistance (MDR). This study investigates the impact of ABCC1 and ABCG2 on the resistance to talazoparib (BMN-673), a potent poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor, in ovarian cancer treatment. METHODS: The cell viability test was used to indicate the effect of talazoparib in different cell lines. Computational molecular docking analysis was conducted to simulate the interaction between talazoparib and ABCC1 or ABCG2. The mechanism of talazoparib resistance was investigated by constructing talazoparib-resistant subline A2780/T4 from A2780 through drug selection with gradually increasing talazoparib concentration. RESULTS: Talazoparib cytotoxicity decreased in drug-selected or gene-transfected cell lines overexpressing ABCC1 or ABCG2 but can be restored by ABCC1 or ABCG2 inhibitors. Talazoparib competitively inhibited substrate drug efflux activity of ABCC1 or ABCG2. Upregulated ABCC1 and ABCG2 protein expression on the plasma membrane of A2780/T4 cells enhances resistance to other substrate drugs, which could be overcome by the knockout of either gene. In vivo experiments confirmed the retention of drug-resistant characteristics in tumor xenograft mouse models. CONCLUSIONS: The therapeutic efficacy of talazoparib in cancer may be compromised by its susceptibility to MDR, which is attributed to its interactions with the ABCC1 or ABCG2 transporters. The overexpression of these transporters can potentially diminish the therapeutic impact of talazoparib in cancer treatment.

The investigation of the implementation effect of the low-carbon city pilot (LCCP) policy in promoting industrial low-carbon development is important for economic growth and carbon reduction in China. This paper takes the industry sector as an independent investigation object, and aims to examine the effectiveness of the policy in improving industrial low-carbon development. The industrial total factor carbon emission efficiency index (ITFCEE) is constructed to measure the level of industrial low-carbon development by the global frontier directional distance function. From the perspective of the multiple participants of the policy, we analyze the mechanisms of the policy, and construct the time-varying difference-in-difference model to test how LCCP policy impacts the ITFCEE. We conclude that (1) LCCP policy improves significantly the ITFCEE. (2) Heterogeneity analysis results show that the positive influence of LCCP policy is significant in cities with high industrial carbon emission intensity, high industrial structure upgrading, and high government expenditure. (3) The result of the mechanism analysis is that LCCP policy can benefit the ITFCEE by promoting enterprise green technology innovation, public environment concern, government technology support, and administrative regulation.

BACKGROUND: This study compared the effectiveness and safety of laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation (LRFA) and percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (PRFA) in the treatment of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) involving specific sites. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included patients with HBV-related HCC involving specific sites treated with LRFA or PRFA between January 2012 and December 2020. The overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and complications were compared between the LRFA and PRFA groups. The Cox proportional-hazards regression model was used to determine the factors affecting prognosis. RESULTS: This study included 109 patients: 69 in the LRFA group and 40 cases in the PRFA group. No significant differences were found in the 3-year OS rate between the two groups (73.7% vs. 70.0%, P = 0.514), but the LRFA group showed a higher 3-year DFS rate than the PRFA group (58.2% vs. 42.5%, P = 0.018). The RFA method was not associated with OS but was independently associated with DFS (LRPA vs. PRFA, HR = 2.078, P = 0.012). The common complications were ascites, pleural effusion, and fever in the two groups. The occurrence of complications in patients treated with LRFA or PRFA was similar (15.9% vs. 12.5%, P = 0.785). CONCLUSION: LRFA was associated with a better DFS in patients with HBV-related HCC involving specific sites. Thus, LRFA might have more advantages in treating liver cancer involving specific sites.

BACKGROUND: Although casein kinase II subunit beta (CK2B) was previously reported to be involved in human cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), there has been no systematic assessment of CK2B in HCC. OBJECTIVE: To assess the potential function of CK2B as a prognostic biomarker and possible druggable target in HCC. METHODS: The Cancer Genome Atlas database was accessed to investigate the potential oncogenic and prognostic roles of CK2B in HCC. Diverse analytical methods were used to obtain a fuller understanding of CK2B, including CIBERSORT, The Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER), gene set enrichment analyses (GSEA), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and gene ontology (GO). Furthermore, the Comparative Toxicogenomic Database (CTD) was used to identify potential drugs to treat CK2B-overexpressing HCC. Patents for these drugs were reviewed using Patentscope® and Worldwide Espacenet®. RESULTS: Upregulated CK2B expression was markedly associated with more aggressive pathological features, including G3, G4 (vs. G1, G2), and T2, T3 (vs. T1). Kaplan-Meier survival curves indicated that patients with HCC with higher expression of CK2B had worse overall survival (P = 0.005), progression-free interval (P = 0.001), and disease-specific survival (P = 0.011). GO and KEGG analysis revealed that CK2B dysregulation affects mitotic chromosome condensation, protein stabilization and binding, regulation of signal transduction of p53 class mediator, and cancer-related pathways. GSEA identified six well-known pathways, including MAPK, WNT, Hedgehog, and TGFß signaling pathways. Finally, CTD identified six compounds that might represent targeted drugs to treat HCC with CK2B overexpression. A review of patents indicated these compounds showed promising anticancer results; however, whether CK2B interacts with these drugs and improves drug outcomes for patients with HCC was not confirmed. CONCLUSION: CK2B is a biomarker for HCC prognosis and could be a potential new drug target. Moreover, the association between infiltrating immune cells and CK2B in the HCC tumor microenvironment might provide a solid basis for further investigation and a potent strategy for immunotherapy of HCC.

Adoptive cell therapy (ACT) has been demonstrated to be one of the most promising cancer immunotherapy strategies due to its active antitumor capabilities in vivo. Engineering T cells to overexpress chimeric antigen receptors (CARs), for example, has shown potent efficacy in the therapy of some hematologic malignancies. However, the efficacy of chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy against solid tumors is still limited due to the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) of solid tumors, difficulty in infiltrating tumor sites, lack of tumor-specific antigens, antigen escape, and severe side effects. In contrast, macrophages expressing CARs (CAR-macrophages) have emerged as another promising candidate in immunotherapy, particularly for solid tumors. Now at its nascent stage (with only one clinical trial progressing), CAR-macrophage still shows inspiring potential advantages over CAR-T in treating solid tumors, including more abundant antitumor mechanisms and better infiltration into tumors. In this review, we discuss the relationships and differences between CAR-T and CAR-macrophage therapies in terms of their CAR structures, antitumor mechanisms, challenges faced in treating solid tumors, and insights gleaned from clinical trials and practice for solid tumors. We especially highlight the potential advantages of CAR-macrophage therapy over CAR-T for solid tumors. Understanding these relationships and differences provides new insight into possible optimization strategies of both these two therapies in solid tumor treatment.

AIMS: Multidrug resistance in pancreatic cancer poses a significant challenge in clinical treatment. Bufalin (BA), a compound found in secretions from the glands of toads, may help overcome this problem. However, severe cardiotoxicity thus far has hindered its clinical application. Hence, the present study aimed to develop a cell membrane-camouflaged and BA-loaded polylactic-co-glycolic acid nanoparticle (CBAP) and assess its potential to counter chemoresistance in pancreatic cancer. METHODS: The toxicity of CBAP was evaluated by electrocardiogram, body weight, distress score, and nesting behavior of mice. In addition, the anticarcinoma activity and underlying mechanism were investigated both in vitro and in vivo. RESULTS: CBAP significantly mitigated BA-mediated acute cardiotoxicity and enhanced the sensitivity of pancreatic cancer to several clinical drugs, such as gemcitabine, 5-fluorouracil, and FOLFIRINOX. Mechanistically, CBAP directly bound to nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain containing protein 2 (NOD2) and inhibited the expression of nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells. This inhibits the expression of ATP-binding cassette transporters, which are responsible for chemoresistance in cancer cells. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings indicate that CBAP directly inhibits NOD2. Combining CBAP with standard-of-care chemotherapeutics represents a safe and efficient strategy for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

The aim of this study is to investigate certain genetic features of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICCA). A total of 12 eligible ICCA patients were enrolled, and tumor tissues from the patients were subjected to next-generation sequencing of a multi-genes panel. Tumor mutation burden (TMB), mutated genes, copy number variants (CNVs), and pathway enrichment analysis were performed. The median TMB was 2.76 Mutation/Mb (range, 0-36.62 Mutation/Mb) in ICCA patients. The top two most commonly mutated genes in ICCA were KRAS (33%) and TP53 (25%). The co-mutations of KRAS and TP53 were 16.7% (2/12) in ICCA patients. Notably, patient P6 with the highest TMB did not have KRAS and TP53 mutations. Additionally, TP53 and/or KRAS alterations were significantly associated with poor progression-free survival than those with wild type (1.4 months vs 18 months). DNA damage repair and homologs recombinant repair deficiencies were significantly associated with high TMB in ICCA cases. In conclusion, we found that certain genetic mutations of TP53 and KRAS could predict poor prognosis in ICCA patients.

Background: Solute carrier family 35 member A2 (SLC35A2), which belongs to the SLC35 solute carrier family of human nucleoside sugar transporters, has shown regulatory roles in various tumors and neoplasms. However, the function of SLC35A2 across human cancers remains to be systematically assessed. Insights into the prediction ability of SLC35A2 in clinical practice and immunotherapy response remains limited. Materials and methods: We obtained the gene expression and protein levels of SLC35A2 in a variety of tumors from Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium, The Cancer Genome Atlas, Gene Expression Omnibus, Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas, and Human Protein Atlas databases. The SLC35A2 level was validated by immunohistochemistry. The predictive value for prognosis was evaluated by Kaplan-Meier survival and Cox regression analyses. Correlations between SLC35A2 expression and DNA methylation, genetic alterations, tumor mutation burden (TMB), microsatellite instability (MSI), and tumor microenvironment were performed using Spearman's correlation analysis. The possible downstream pathways of SLC35A2 in different human cancers were explored using gene set variation analysis. The potential role of SLC35A2 in the tumor immune microenvironment was evaluated via EPIC, CIBERSORT, MCP-counter, CIBERSORT-ABS, quanTIseq, TIMER, and xCell algorithms. The difference in the immunotherapeutic response of SLC35A2 under different expression conditions was evaluated by the tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion (TIDE) score as well as four independent immunotherapy cohorts, which includes patients with bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA, N = 299), non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC, N = 72 and N = 36) and skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM, N = 25). Potential drugs were identified using the CellMiner database and molecular docking. Results: SLC35A2 exhibited abnormally high or low expression in 23 cancers and was significantly associated with the prognosis. In various cancers, SLC35A2 expression and mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 signaling were positively correlated. Multiple algorithmic immune infiltration analyses suggested an inverse relation between SLC35A2 expression and infiltrating immune cells, which includes CD4+T cells, CD8+T cells, B cells, and natural killer cells (NK) in various tumors. Furthermore, SLC35A2 expression was significantly correlated with pan-cancer immune checkpoints, TMB, MSI, and TIDE genes. SLC35A2 showed significant predictive value for the immunotherapy response of patients with diverse cancers. Two drugs, vismodegib and abiraterone, were identified, and the free binding energy of cytochrome P17 with abiraterone was higher than that of SLC35A2 with abiraterone. Conclusion: Our study revealed that SLC35A2 is upregulated in 20 types of cancer, including lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), breast invasive carcinoma (BRCA), colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC). The upregulated SLC35A2 in five cancer types indicates a poor prognosis. Furthermore, there was a positive correlation between the overexpression of SLC35A2 and reduced lymphocyte infiltration in 13 cancer types, including BRCA and COAD. Based on data from several clinical trials, patients with LUAD, LUSC, SKCM, and BLCA who exhibited high SLC35A2 expression may experience improved immunotherapy response. Therefore, SLC35A2 could be considered a potential predictive biomarker for the prognosis and immunotherapy efficacy of various tumors. Our study provides a theoretical basis for further investigating its prognostic and therapeutic potentials.

Background: Breast cancer (BRCA) is a life-threatening malignancy in women with an unsatisfactory prognosis. The purpose of this study was to explore the prognostic biomarkers and a risk signature based on ferroptosis-related RNA-binding proteins (FR-RBPs). Methods: FR-RBPs were identified using Spearman correlation analysis. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified by the "limma" R package. The univariate Cox and multivariate Cox analyses were executed to determine the prognostic genes. The risk signature was constructed and verified with the training set, testing set, and validation set. Mutation analysis, immune checkpoint expression analysis in high- and low-risk groups, and correlation between risk signature and chemotherapeutic agents were conducted using the "maftools" package, "ggplot2" package, and the CellMiner database respectively. The Human Protein Atlas (HPA) database was employed to confirm protein expression trends of prognostic genes in BRCA and normal tissues. The expression of prognostic genes in cell lines was verified by Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Kaplan-meier (KM) plotter database analysis was applied to predict the correlation between the expression levels of signature genes and survival statuses. Results: Five prognostic genes (GSPT2, RNASE1, TIPARP, TSEN54, and SAMD4A) to construct an FR-RBPs-related risk signature were identified and the risk signature was validated by the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) cohort. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated the risk score was a robust independent prognostic factor in overall survival prediction. The Tumor Mutational Burden (TMB) analysis implied that the high- and low-risk groups responded differently to immunotherapy. Drug sensitivity analysis suggested that the risk signature may serve as a chemosensitivity predictor. The results of GSEA suggested that five prognostic genes might be related to DNA replication and the immune-related pathways. RT-qPCR results demonstrated that the expression trends of prognostic genes in cell lines were consistent with the results from public databases. KM plotter database analysis suggested that high expression levels of GSPT2, RNASE1, and SAMD4A contributed to poor prognoses. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study identified the FR-RBPs-related prognostic genes and developed an FR-RBPs-related risk signature for the prognosis of BRCA, which will be of great significance in developing new therapeutic targets and prognostic molecular biomarkers for BRCA.

In this study, we propose a novel high-concentration photovoltaic (HCPV) cell by considering both the light leakage characteristics of the Fresnel-lens-based solar cell modules and the performance issues arising from cloud shading in practical use. We use our self-constructed systems to conduct field measurements for up to half a year under various environmental conditions. According to the acquired results, it was surprising to know that in the area other than the focusing area, the so-called light leakage region, there always bears illuminance of about 20,000-40,000 lx whether it is a sunny day or a cloudy day with different cloud conditions. Such an interesting result is caused by the light scattering of the clouds and the inherent leakage characteristic of a Fresnel lens. To prove this important finding, we simulated the illuminance of the Fresnel lens structure used in the measurement with apertures of different sizes to determine the detected area. In the laboratory, the diffuse plates were used to mimic the situation of varying cloud layer thicknesses. The trend of calculated and measured results fitted well with the field measurements. Also, the experimental and simulation results show that the round angle and draft facet of the Fresnel lens were responsible for light leakage. This finding prompted us to propose a hybrid high-concentration solar module in which more cost-effective polycrystalline silicon solar cells are placed around the high-efficiency wafer of HCPV to capture the dissipated light leakage and convert it into usable electricity.

Antarctic organisms are consistently suffering from multiple environmental pressures, especially the strong UV radiation caused by the loss of the ozone layer. The mosses and lichens dominate the vegetation of the Antarctic continent, which grow and propagate in these harsh environments. However, the molecular mechanisms and related regulatory networks of these Antarctic plants against UV-B radiation are largely unknown. Here, we used an integrated multi-omics approach to study the regulatory mechanism of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) of an Antarctic moss (Pohlia nutans) in response to UV-B radiation. We identified a total of 5729 lncRNA sequences by transcriptome sequencing, including 1459 differentially expressed lncRNAs (DELs). Through functional annotation, we found that the target genes of DELs were significantly enriched in plant-pathogen interaction and the flavonoid synthesis pathway. In addition, a total of 451 metabolites were detected by metabonomic analysis, and 97 differentially change metabolites (DCMs) were found. Flavonoids account for 20% of the total significantly up-regulated metabolites. In addition, the comprehensive transcriptome and metabolome analyses revealed the co-expression pattern of DELs and DCMs of flavonoids. Our results provide insights into the regulatory network of lncRNA under UV-B radiation and the adaptation of Antarctic moss to the polar environments.

Zoraptera shows extreme uniformity in general body morphology, with the exception of Formosozoros (=Zorotypus) newi Chao & Chen, 2000, which stands out in terms of the shape and arrangement of its legs, the cerci, and several other morphological characters. After critical evaluation, we found that this species is not a zorapteran but is instead a nymph (1st instar) of an earwig; i.e., F. newi is a dermapteran. Because of the lack of morphological descriptions of Dermaptera nymphs that would allow species identification, and because the type material of F. newi is lost, a more detailed classification is not possible. We therefore propose that the genus name Formosozoros Chao & Chen, 2000 and the species name Formosozoros newi Chao & Chen, 2000 are nomina dubia.

Background: Nasopharyngeal carcinomas (NPCs) are malignant tumors originating from the lining epithelium of the nasopharynx. Fusion genes have been confirmed to play important roles in the occurrence and development of various malignant tumors, but the role of fusion genes in NPC is poorly understood. We aimed to explore new fusion genes that promote the occurrence and development of NPC. Methods: RNA-seq was used to search for interchromosomal translocations in 18 NPC tissues. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Sanger sequencing were applied to verify the presence of BCL6-SPECC1L (BS); quantitative PCR (qPCR) and Western blotting were used to measure the expression level of BCL-6 in NPC cells; MTT and in vivo tumorigenesis assays were applied to evaluate the cell proliferation ability; immunofluorescence assays were used to determine the cellular localization of BCL6 and BS; and a luciferase reporter assay was performed to evaluate the ability of BCL6 and BS to inhibit transcription. Results: BS was present in 5.34% (11/206) of primary NPC biopsies and 2.13% (1/47) of head and neck cancer biopsies. The expression of BCL6 was downregulated in NPC, and silencing of endogenous BCL6 promoted NPC cell proliferation in vitro. Overexpression of BCL6 but not BS inhibited the growth of NPC cells in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, BCL6 localized in the nucleus can inhibit the G1/S transition to suppress the growth of NPC cells. However, after the fusion of BCL6 and SPECC1L, the product cannot localize to the nucleus, and the transcriptional inhibitory function of BCL6 is abolished, eventually abolishing its tumor suppressor effect and leading to the development of NPC. Conclusion: BS is a novel fusion gene in NPC that may play an important role in the occurrence and development of this cancer. The clinical significance of the BS fusion gene needs further elucidation.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components have been shown as risk factors for several solid cancers. However, current epidemiological evidence about the relevance of MetS and bladder cancer risk was limited. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study of 476,986 participants with undiagnosed bladder cancer based on the UK Biobank. MetS was defined as the presence of at least three of the five selected indicators: hypertension, central obesity, raised triglyceride, reduced HDL-cholesterol, and raised fasting plasma glucose. Bladder cancer has been identified through contact with the British Cancer Registry (median follow-up time: 6.6 years). We assessed hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) through Cox proportional hazard regression after adjusting for demographic and lifestyle factors. Non-linear associations for individual MetS components were assessed by the restricted cubic spline method. Results: During a follow-up of 3,112,566 person-years, 487 cases of bladder cancer were ascertained. MetS (HR = 1.32, 95% CI = 1.08-1.61), central obesity (HR = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.15-1.68), dyslipidemia for HDL cholesterol (HR = 1.31, 95% CI = 1.04-1.66), and hyperglycemia (HR = 1.44, 95% CI = 1.16-1.79) were associated with elevated risk of bladder cancer. Bladder cancer risk increased with the number of MetS components. In stratified analyses, MetS showed similar effects in bladder cancer independently with sex, age, cigarette and alcohol use, physical activity, and dietary factors. Higher waist circumference, BMI, fasting blood glucose, and glycosylated hemoglobin were independently associated with increased risk of bladder cancer, with no evidence against non-linearity. Conclusion: MetS might be an independent risk factor for bladder cancer. Our findings highlighted the importance of individualized management of MetS components for preventing bladder cancer.
