RESUMO

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a tumor that is typical of late metastases detected within 3 years after radical nephrectomy in 85% of cases. RCC most commonly metastasizes to the lung, bone, liver, and brain; the pancreas is involved in no more than 0.25-3% of cases. The paper describes a unique clinical case of multiple late pancreatic metastases from clear cell RCC in a 77-year-old woman 27 years after removal of the primary tumor.

RESUMO

The status of anatomy-morphology of maxillary mucosa depending on the time of interconnection between the maxillary sinus and oral cavity, the size of it and its function were studied. The study was conducted on 25 patients and 20 cadavers. Changes in the mucous membrane of the maxillary sinus in relation to some of factors are discussed.

RESUMO

A total of 134 samples of intact prostate tissue, nodular hyperplasia and prostate cancer were examined. Number of androgen-positive cells was 28.51 +/- 3.50%, Ki-67 expression index - 2.76 +/- 0,45% and Bcl-2--6.25 +/- 1.38% in nodular hyperplastic tissue. In peritumorous epithelial tissue, that parameter dropped to 20.60 +/- 3, 10%, while stromal E+ cells index rose to 19.42 +/- 4, 81. Androgen expression varied 40-90% in tumor epithelium and that of Ki-67--8.26-13.93. Bcl-2 expression was lower in recurrent tumor (4.95 +/- 2.76) as compared with adenocarcinoma microfoci (5.41 +/- 0.71).

RESUMO

Indices of Ki67, Bc12 expression, mutant gene p53, nucleolar organizers activity and the percentage of cells having nucleic acids levels higher or lower of the diploid levels were determined in prostatic epithelium in cancer, in the peritumorous area and in the area of benign prostatic hyperplasia. A considerable variability of the tumor epithelium by the level of proliferative activity, apoptosis inhibition and expression of mutant p53 gene was established. Increased proliferative activity and predominance of epitheliocytes with a nucleic acids level higher as compared to the diploid one were revealed in the tumor epithelium. Low apoptosis inhibition and increased degradation of the epithelium in case of a high level of Ki-67 expression index were noted in the peritumorous area. Changes in the peritumorous region were noticed both very close to the tumor lesion as well as at considerable distance from it.

RESUMO

Close interaction between biosynthetic, proliferative and overall activities of nucleic acids in tumor epithelial cells, on the one hand, and histo-hematic barrier of peritumorous area, on the other, has been investigated. Nucleolar organizer regions in prostate cancer appeared very active and the interaction of histo-hematic barrier components much closer than in nodose hyperplasia. Fibroplastic and sclerotic alterations in stroma adjacent to tumor enhanced. It is significant that profound changes occur in the epithelium-connective tissue system in prostate cancer regions which are morphologically identical with those in nodose hyperplasia. It is suggested that such changes might accompany tumorigenesis as well as precede it. In either situation, said characteristics of histo-hematic barrier of peritumorous area may be instrumental in early detection of prostate cancer, particularly, when puncture biopsies are used.

RESUMO

Examinations of plastic function changes in myocardial cells (MC) from 36 patients with chronic ischemic heart disease were carried out before, during and soon after cardioplegic ischemia. The initial mean number of silver grains in nucleoli varied greatly showing some difference between groups of the patients with (9.5 +/- 0.48) or without (11.0 +/- 0.5) myocardial infarction. During the myocardial arrest this index of MC plastic activity was decreased in all but 7 patients. In contrast to this, it was elevated in most patients tested during subsequent reperfusion. On the basis of these data and parallel histochemical photometric assessment of DNA, RNA and succinate dehydrogenase activity, a hypothesis was suggested which explains the non-standard elevation of ribosomal cistron activity during both myocardial arrest and reperfusion by their compensatory reaction to myocardial injury.

RESUMO

Sets of conventional macroscopic and up-to-date histochemical techniques were employed to study hearts from 267 patients who had died of essential hypertension, atherosclerosis or secondary renal hypertension. Excessive cardiac mass was found disease-specific and related to the time since hypertension onset. Cardiac hypertrophy was augmenting with growing deficiency of coronary blood supply and showed specific correlation between cardiomyocyte nucleus and cytoplasm within each nosological unit mentioned. This may serve evidence for the absence of a common morphofunctional underground for this process. Essential hypertension is characterized by stepwise nuclear changes in cardiomyocytes relevant to advancing hypertrophy.
