RESUMO
This paper reports on 2 hemolytic serious reactions in 2 Arabian patients because of the use of primaquine as presumptive antimalarial treatment given in Cuba to all travellers from countries where malaria is endemic. Taking into account the non-existence of imported malaria cases in travellers from the Arab-world since more then 15 years and the frequency of individuals presenting with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency it is recommended not to use this therapeutic procedure, and to maintain the rest of surveillance measures to all travellers from such region.

A description in made about the methodology and outcome of screening conducted on foreing students arriving in Cuba from 1987-1990 to reside for several years. During that period, a total number of 13,025 foreing travellers coming from 36 countries were controlled; of them, 1,100 were positive to some kind of infectious disease. The majority were positive to malaria (838), 220 cases were diagnosed as having epidemic hemorrhagic conjunctivitis and 58 were seropositive to HIV. All positive cases were controlled and treated by the Department of Medical Services of the Institute of Tropical Medicine "Pedro Kouri".

Se informan en este trabajo los 307 casos de enfermedades exoticas notificadas por el Instituto de Medicina Tropical "Pedro Louri" durante el ano 1982, y se comparan con la situacion informada en el ano 1981.Se presenta un analisis de los mismos atendiendo a las cuatro enfermedades basicas importadas: 118 casos de paludismo,112 de esquistosomiasis, 69 de filariasis,6 de leishmaniasis, ademas de un caso de tracoma y uno de dracunculosis.En todos se analizan las especies parasitarias diagnosticadas y los paises de procedencia
