RESUMO

Flashbulb memories (FBMs) refer to vivid and long-lasting autobiographical memories for the circumstances in which people learned of a shocking and consequential public event. A cross-national study across eleven countries aimed to investigate FBM formation following the first COVID-19 case news in each country and test the effect of pandemic-related variables on FBM. Participants had detailed memories of the date and others present when they heard the news, and had partially detailed memories of the place, activity, and news source. China had the highest FBM specificity. All countries considered the COVID-19 emergency as highly significant at both the individual and global level. The Classification and Regression Tree Analysis revealed that FBM specificity might be influenced by participants' age, subjective severity (assessment of COVID-19 impact in each country and relative to others), residing in an area with stringent COVID-19 protection measures, and expecting the pandemic effects. Hierarchical regression models demonstrated that age and subjective severity negatively predicted FBM specificity, whereas sex, pandemic impact expectedness, and rehearsal showed positive associations in the total sample. Subjective severity negatively affected FBM specificity in Turkey, whereas pandemic impact expectedness positively influenced FBM specificity in China and negatively in Denmark.

RESUMO

Following theories of emotional embodiment, the facial feedback hypothesis suggests that individuals' subjective experiences of emotion are influenced by their facial expressions. However, evidence for this hypothesis has been mixed. We thus formed a global adversarial collaboration and carried out a preregistered, multicentre study designed to specify and test the conditions that should most reliably produce facial feedback effects. Data from n = 3,878 participants spanning 19 countries indicated that a facial mimicry and voluntary facial action task could both amplify and initiate feelings of happiness. However, evidence of facial feedback effects was less conclusive when facial feedback was manipulated unobtrusively via a pen-in-mouth task.

RESUMO

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased negative emotions and decreased positive emotions globally. Left unchecked, these emotional changes might have a wide array of adverse impacts. To reduce negative emotions and increase positive emotions, we tested the effectiveness of reappraisal, an emotion-regulation strategy that modifies how one thinks about a situation. Participants from 87 countries and regions (n = 21,644) were randomly assigned to one of two brief reappraisal interventions (reconstrual or repurposing) or one of two control conditions (active or passive). Results revealed that both reappraisal interventions (vesus both control conditions) consistently reduced negative emotions and increased positive emotions across different measures. Reconstrual and repurposing interventions had similar effects. Importantly, planned exploratory analyses indicated that reappraisal interventions did not reduce intentions to practice preventive health behaviours. The findings demonstrate the viability of creating scalable, low-cost interventions for use around the world. RESUMO

The article examines the presence of metacestodes on the liver capsule in two wild boars and on the liver capsule and mediastinum in moose. Cysticerci were identified as Taenia hydatigena metacestodes by morphological features-size and shape of rostellar hooks and molecular analysis of the partial sequences of cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 gene. Molecular analysis revealed similarities between the metacestodes isolated from the wild mammals in the present study to T. hydatigena in European wolves. It is possible that infection of moose and wild boar with T. hydatigena metacestode is related to the growth in the wolf population in Europe.

RESUMO

The nematode Ashworthius sidemi is a typical parasite of Asiatic deer, particularly sika deer (Cervus nippon). It was probably first carried into Poland by migrating red deer. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence and intensity of A. sidemi infection in roe deer and red deer in the Lower Silesian Wilderness in the winter season 2015/2016. Parasitological necropsy of 34 abomasa of red deer from Forest District Ruszów was performed. The prevalence of A. sidemi infection was found to be 91.1%, and the intensity to range from 10 to 2680 nematodes, with a mean intensity of 394 parasites. This prevalence of ashworthiosis and maximum intensity of infection were respectively 17.2% and 38% higher than observed in the previous season (2013/2014). The mean intensity was also slightly higher than reported previously.

RESUMO

Two novel high-performance liquid chromatography methods for the determination of process-related impurities of eplerenone drug substance and the designated starting material were developed and validated. Process impurities, including stereoisomers of eplerenone and the intermediate, were controlled using a Kromasil C18 column (250 mm x 4.6 mm; particle size 5 µm), under gradient conditions. Simple mobile phases: water and acetonitrile, as well as a PDA detector set at 240 nm were used. In order to control the stereochemical purity of the starting material (SM) in the eplerenone synthesis the polysaccharide-based Kromasil 5-AmyCoat chiral stationary phase was applied. To confirm the identity of the process-related impurities (nine compounds) Raman Spectroscopy (RS), as a fast and convenient method, was applied. Differences in the wavenumbers of CC and CO stretching vibrations were the most distinctive features for the identification by means of RS. The bands assignment was supported by quantum mechanical computations. For one pair of the epimers containing the hydroxyl group the O-H…O bond geometry was correlated with the wavenumbers of stretching vibrations of this group. Wherever possible, experimental results were compared with literature data.

RESUMO

Nematodes Ashworthius sidemi are typical parasites of Asiatic cervids, mostly sika deer (Cervus nippon). Migrating red deer have probably introduced this parasite to the area of Poland from neighbouring countries. The aim of the study was to determine prevalence and intensity of infection of red deer and roe deer from the Lower Silesian Wilderness with A. sidemi after one year from previous studies and to examine the influence of these parasites on other species of gastrointestinal nematodes. 31 abomasa of red deer and 3 abomasa of roe deer from Forest Dictrict of Ruszów have been examined on the presence of parasites. In comparison with previous studies, red deer showed significant, over triple increase of prevalence of A. sidemi and over fivefold increase of mean intensity of infection. Maximum intensity of infection has increased over 24 times. These results indicate on dynamic spread of this new aswortiosis foci. Apart from previously registered parasite species, four new nematodes have been found in examined red deer and roe deer during this year studies. Red deer have been infected with Spiculopteragia assymmetrica, typical for fallow deer and Haemonchus placei - typical for bovine, whereas roe deer have been infected with Trichostrongylus axei and Trichostrongylus capricola, parasites of sheep, goats and bovine. Prevalence of red deer infection with nematodes S. boehmi and Ostertagia leptospicularis was lower than two years ago while prevalence of infection with S. mathevossiani and O. kolchida was higher. Intensity of infection with these nematodes has increased.

RESUMO

Aelurostrongylus falciformis belongs to the superfamily of Metastrongyloidea. This nematode occurs in European badgers and locates in lungs, in respiratory tract. Numerous species of land snails are intermediate hosts of the parasite. In 2015, parasitological necropsy of 9 badgers, shot in the Forest District Gleboki Bród in Augustowska Primeval Forest, was performed. Two examined animals were infected with nematodes A. falciformis. In the lungs of each badger two specimens of nematodes were detected (male and female). In the following article, description, morphometrical data and figures are presented. This is the first report of A. falciformis infection in badgers in Poland.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to describe parasites of three lynx living in an enclosure of Western Pomeranian Nature Society in Jablonowo. During analysis of 3 gram faecal samples eggs of Toxascaris leonina, Toxocara cati, Ancylostoma sp. and oocysts of Cystoisospora felis were found. To our knowledge this is the first report of C. felis infection in lynx from Poland. Presented research show that wild cats in captivity are particularly exposed on parasitic infections and demand regular examination.

RESUMO

The abundance of elk (Alces alces) in Poland at the beginning of 2016 reached over 28 000 individual animals. However, little is still known about health status of elk population in the country. In particular, important health issue tend to be parasitic diseases which are the most common diseases in wild animals. Special emphasis should be given to the parasitofauna of elks. Their ability to move over great distances increases the chance of parasitic infestations in new areas and transmission to other wild animals and livestock. The aim of this article is to describe the parasites occurring in elk in Poland on the basis of previous studies from the country and to compare them with data from neighboring countries. The presented review reveals that elk populations have not been examined for the presence of parasites for decades, and no recent studies in Poland have examined the parasitofauna of this animal. As such, our study shows that assessing the parasites present in elk populations remains an important area of research.

RESUMO

UNLABELLED: Liver fluke Parafasciolopsis fasciolaemorpha is a parasite typical of elk (Alces alces). The present study describes the identification of a massive invasion of the liver fluke P. fasciolaemorpha in an elk in the Sobibór Landscape Park, Eastern Poland. In February 2016, samples of liver and faeces were collected from the elk during postmorte examination. A section of liver tissue and three grams of faeces were examined for the presence of flukes or fluke eggs by decantation. In total, 11,150 juvenile and mature flukes of P. fasciolaemorpha were found in the examined liver. Multiple cavities with distinct walls, filled with dark liquid, trematodes, fluke eggs and cellular detritus were seen in the cross section of the parenchyma. Additionally, some of the bile ducts were plugged with calcerous deposits. The three grams of examined faeces were found to contain 322 grey and golden-coloured eggs of P. fasciolaemorpha. The presence of such a massive infection of P. fasciolaemorpha in the examined elk has a significant impact on the health of the individual. We can assume P. fasciolaemorpha has a significant influence on the health and abundance of the entire elk population in Poland. RESUMO

A three-year-old elk was necropsied in Kampinos Forest, near the village of Granica. An analysis of a 3g faecal sample from the animal revealed the presence of 130 oocysts of Eimeria catubrina. The parasite is typical of roe deer; this study is only the second reported observation of E. catubrina in elks. As coccidia are so rarely found in elks, this observation of E. catubrina in this new localization is a matter of concern.

RESUMO

The synthesis of a series of N-guanidinylated cyclic ureidopeptides, analogues of 1,4-ureido-deltorphin/dermorphine tetrapeptide is described. The δ- and µ-opioid receptor affinity of new guanidinylated analogues and their non-guanidinylated precursors was determined by the displacement radioligand binding experiments. Our results indicate that the guanidinylation of cyclic 1,4-ureidodeltorphin peptide analogues does not exhibit a uniform influence on the opioid receptor binding properties, similarly as reported earlier for some linear peptides. All analogues were also tested for their in vitro resistance to proteolysis during incubation with large excess of chymotrypsin, pepsin, and papain by means of mass spectroscopy. Guanidinylated ureidopeptides 1G-4G showed mixed µ agonist/δ agonist properties and high enzymatic stability indicating their potential as therapeutic agents for treatment of pain.

RESUMO

Mesterolone is a synthetic androgenic steroid indicating a weak anabolic activity. A new, simple in use, and economical TLC-densitometric method in normal phase system (NP-TLC) has been developed and validated for the identification and quantitative determination of mesterolone in bulk drug and in tablet formulation. NP-TLC analysis was performed on aluminium plates precoated with silica gel 60F254 as the stationary phase using chloroform-acetone (40 : 10, v/v) as mobile phase. Densitometric analysis was carried out at λ = 745 nm after staining with phosphomolybdic acid. These conditions were found to give visible (dark blue) spot and sharp peak, respectively, for mesterolone at R F 0.75 ± 0.02 and enabled satisfactory separation of mesterolone from its related substance (potential impurity). The proposed NP-TLC-densitometric method was validated for specificity, linearity, precision, accuracy, robustness, and sensitivity according to ICH guideline and other validation requirements. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 61.0 ng · spot(-1) and 184.0 ng · spot(-1), respectively. The percent content of mesterolone in marketed tablet formulation was found to be 99.40% of label claim. The developed TLC-densitometric method can be successfully used in quality control of mesterolone in bulk material and also tablet formulation.

RESUMO

Escin, a complex mixture of pentacyclic triterpene saponins obtained from horse chestnut seeds extract (HCSE; Aesculus hippocastanum L.), constitutes a traditional herbal active substance of preparations (drugs) used for a treatment of chronic venous insufficiency and capillary blood vessel leakage. A new approach to exploitation of pharmacological potential of this saponin complex has been recently proposed, in which the ß-escin mixture is perceived as a source of a hitherto unavailable raw material, pentacyclic triterpene aglycone-protoescigenin. Although many liquid chromatography methods are described in the literature for saponins determination, analysis of protoescigenin is barely mentioned. In this work, a new ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) method developed for protoescigenin quantification has been described. CAD (charged aerosol detection), as a relatively new detection method based on aerosol charging, has been applied in this method as an alternative to ultraviolet (UV) detection. The influence of individual parameters on CAD response and sensitivity was studied. The detection was performed using CAD and UV (200 nm) simultaneously and the results were compared with reference to linearity, accuracy, precision and limit of detection.

RESUMO

A series of novel cyclic ureidopeptides, analogues of dermorphine/deltorphine tetrapeptide, were synthesized by solid phase peptide synthesis and/or in solution. The antinociceptive activity of N-substituted amides 1-10 was evaluated using hot-plate and tail-flick tests. Analogue 1 showed significant, stronger than morphine, antinociceptive effect after systemic applications. All analogues were also tested for their in vitro resistance to proteolysis by means of mass spectroscopy and it was found that all substituted amides 1-10 showed full stability during incubation with large excess of chymotrypsin and pepsin. Compound 1 is a lead molecule for further evaluation.

RESUMO

Six cyclic peptides related to dermorphin(1-7) have been synthesized. The synthesis of linear peptides containing diamino acid residues in positions 2 and 4 was carried out on a 4-methylbenzhydrylamine resin, and cyclization was achieved by treatment with bis-(4-nitrophenyl)carbonate to form a urea unit. The peptides were tested in the guinea-pig ileum (GPI) and mouse vas deferens (MVD) assays. Diverse opioid agonist activities were observed, depending on the size of the ring. The results were compared with those obtained earlier for 1-4 dermorphin analogues. The conformations of all six dermorphin analogues were studied. The conformational space of the peptides was examined using the electrostatically driven Monte Carlo method. On the basis of NMR data, an ensemble of conformations was obtained for each peptide. The opioid activity profiles of the compounds are discussed in the light of the structural data.

RESUMO

Four cyclic enkephalin analogues and four cyclic dermorphin analogues have been synthesized. Cyclization of linear peptides containing basic amino acid residues of various side chain length in position 2 and 5 (enkephalin analogues) or 2 and 4 (dermorphin analogues) was achieved by treatment with bis-(4-nitrophenyl) carbonate to form a urea unit. The peptides were tested in the guinea-pig ileum (GPI) and mouse vas deferens (MVD) assays. Diverse activity was observed, depending on the size of the ring and the location of the urea unit. The conformation of two dermorphin analogues has been studied: one of high activity (IC(50) = 4.15 nM in the GPI assay) and a second of low activity (IC(50) = 6700 nM in the GPI assay). The conformational space of these peptides was examined using the EDMC method. Using data from the NMR spectra, each peptide was described as an ensemble of conformers. Biological activity was discussed in light of the structural data.
