RESUMO

Caulacanthus okamurae is an invasive red alga that forms extensive mats in sheltered marine habitats around the world. To determine its genomic structure and genetic relationship to native and other non-native populations of C. okamurae, high-throughput sequencing analysis was performed on an introduced specimen from Bennett Slough, Moss Landing, California, USA. Assembly of 23,146,595 filtered 150 bp paired-end Illumina sequencing reads yielded its complete mitogenome (GenBank accession MT193839) and plastid genome (GenBank accession MT193838). The mitogenome is 25,995 bp in length and contains 50 genes. The plastid genome is 173,516 bp and contains 234 genes. Comparison of the organellar chromosomes to other Gigartinales revealed a high-level of gene synteny. BLAST analysis of marker sequences (rbcL, cox1, cox2) of C. okamurae from Moss Landing identified four identical DNA sequences: one from a specimen from a native population of C. okamurae from South Korea and three from specimens representing invasive populations from France, Spain, and the USA. These genetic results confirm the presence of C. okamurae in central California, USA, and represent the first complete mitogenome and plastid genome from the Caulacanthaceae.

RESUMO

This paper explores the potential benefits of the use of mobile health (mHealth) apps in obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN)-embedded psychiatric clinics in the United States. First, we highlight the increasing trend of integrating mental health care within the OB-GYN context. Second, we provide examples of successful uses of mHealth in the global health context and highlight the dearth of available research in the United States. Finally, we provide a summary of the shortcomings of currently available apps and describe the upcoming trial of a novel app currently underway at the Mother-Child Wellness Clinical and Research Center at Boston Medical Center.

According to the Ministry of Health, between 2003 and 200540-70% of Argentine women had a PAP smear done. The present researchwas conducted in the context of a Family Medicine rotation. The objectivewas to estimate the PAP screening coverage in two neighborhoods of BahiaBlanca and to identify the barriers that limits its practice in primary care. The study design chosen was a cross-sectional quali-quantitative study. Datawas collect by structured survey of 224 sexually active women between15 and 65 years, random cluster sampling, and semistructured interviewof both primary health care centers’ staff. 49.1% of women have their PAPsmears performed annually. There’s an association between: the time fromthe last PAP smear and the woman’s age (p <0.001), age and knowledgeof PAP smears’ utility (p <0.001) and knowledge and coverage (p <0.001).Qualitative analysis shows that overload in the health system negativelyimpacts the performing of PAP smears. The main identi&ed barrier was lackof information.

This essay shows a review about leisure concepts taken from different disciplines, which may contributes to the comprension of why time use, through leisure activities is understood as an occupation. It also highlights the way leisure activities change as occupation in the life cycle of people, within the context of our country.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This project examined the intermodal perception of temporal synchrony in 16 young children (ages 4 to 6 years) with autism compared to a group of children without impairments matched on adaptive age, and a group of children with other developmental disabilities matched on chronological and adaptive age. METHOD: A preferential looking paradigm was used, where participants viewed non-linguistic, simple linguistic or complex linguistic events on two screens displaying identical video tracks, but one offset from the other by 3 seconds, and with the single audio track matched to only one of the displays. RESULTS: As predicted, both comparison groups demonstrated significant non-random preferential looking to violations of temporal synchrony with linguistic and non-linguistic stimuli. However, the group with autism showed an impaired, chance level of responding, except when presented with non-linguistic stimuli. CONCLUSIONS: Several explanations are offered for this apparently autism-specific, language-specific pattern of responding to temporal synchrony, and potential developmental sequelae are discussed.
