RESUMO

The authors propose a new checklist model adapted for ambulatory oral surgery procedures based on the 'surgical checklist' proposed by the WHO. The proposed document contains 18 items divided into two sets: those that must be verified before beginning surgery and those that must be verified after its completion, but prior to the patient's departure from the site where the surgery is performed. A checklist is an easy-to-use tool that requires little time but provides order, logic and systematization taking into account certain basic concepts to increase the level of patient safety. The authors think that the result is a checklist that is easy to complete and ensures that key patient safety-related matters are dealt with in this field of surgery.

Synovial chondromatosis very rarely affects the TMJ. It is a metaplastic disorder of the synovial tissue that usually produces intra-articular loose bodies, or chondromas. It has variable clinical features and the symptoms are unspecific. Examination by meansof magnetic resonance imaging and arthroscopic observation are the diagnostic techniques of choice. Treatment consists in the removal the loose bodies and partial synovectomy. Occasionally the skull has been destroyed and the middle cranial fossa invaded. There arecases of malignant transformation to chondrosarcoma. A long-term follow up is necessary. We describe a case with incipient intracranial extension

RESUMO

The chronic diffuse sclerosing osteomyelitis (CDSO) of the mandible has been described as an inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent episodes of intense pain in the mandible, often accompanied by trismus, paresthesia and progressive mandibular deformity. The etiopathogeny of this entity is not fully known. The differential diagnosis must be carried out very carefully, and the treatment results are very disappointing. Recently, evidence that suggests that CDSO may be the mandibular location of a more diffuse condition, the synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis, osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome, has been offered. We describe two clinical cases of CDSO of typical evolution which fulfill the criteria for SAPHO syndrome, offering us an occasion for a review of the current literature.

RESUMO

Diffuse sclerosing chronic osteomyelitis is a lasting pathological entity characterized for recurrent outbreaks of intensive pain referred to the mandible, escorted with inflammatory phenomena, trismus, paresthesia of the nervus alveolaris inferior and progressive deformity of the lower jaw. The differential diagnosis with other facial neuralgies of the face must be very carefully get up and its treatment is disappointing. The etio-pathology of the illness remains uncertain. The AA. report one clinic case with typical course, which offer them the opportunity to review and discuss the literature of the subject.
