RESUMO

Autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type 1 exhibits very specific oral manifestations in the form of enamel hypoplasia and oral candidiasis. The authors present the case of a 10-year-old girl with autoimmune polyglandular syndrome characterized by chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis infections, hypoparathyroidism, and enamel hypoplasia. The importance of this entity is stressed, with special attention to the observed oral anomalies.

RESUMO

Mandibular torus fracture as a result of accidental trauma has not been reported to date in the dental literature. This study describes the case of a young adult male who suffered multiple fractures affecting the teeth and mandibular torus secondary to chin area trauma due to a bicycle accident; the first manifestation of bone damage being left unilateral paraesthesia of the lip. An occlusal x-ray study of the affected area was made to evaluate possible fracture, as unlike centred periapical x-rays and orthopantomography, it is able to reveal the existence of a fracture line of the alveolar wall. In the associated presence of paraesthesia, a computed tomographic study is advisable.

In the present work is analysed the mesiodistal diameters of the temporal and permanent teeth of the same sampie to calculate the symmetry. The first sample was 267 children, 90 girls (34%) and 177 (66%) boys from Oriental Andalusia, aged between 8 and 10 years old. After four years, we analysed the same children with permanent teething and we obtained just a sample of 171, 69 girls (40%) and 102 (60%) boys, with an average age of 12 years and a range from 11 to 13 years, using as criteria selection not having morphological alteration, teeth loss, important congestions, between other elements. The teething dimension was measured as the maximum distance between the mesiodistal contact points of the crown, using a sharp-end gauge, with a 0,1 mm precision. All the measurements were made by the same viewer, directly to the mouth. For the statistic analysis was used the t Student test, with a level of statistic signification of p<0,05. The main results include the symmetry of the mesiodistal size both in a mixed dentition and a permanent dentition, of the same sample (AU)

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study attempts to remedy the situation that no morphological studies exit of tongue piercing. METHODS: The tongues of eight Beagles were pierced with titanium implants. The animals were then divided into four groups: 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month and 3 months for clinical-photographic and histopathological studies. RESULTS: Group I: clinically, erythema at both orifices and, microscopically, granulation tissue covering the surface of the canal and infiltrates of polynuclear neutrophils. Group II: persistence of erythema and of the granulation tissue, with the edges of the epithelium showing signs of regeneration. Group III: granulation tissue alternating with fibrosis; epithelium covering the sides of the canal. Group IV: fibrosis substituting the granulation tissue and almost complete re-epithelialization of the canal. All groups, except group I, numerous foreign body-type granulomas. CONCLUSIONS: Tongue piercing provokes fibrous reparation with almost total re-epithelialization of the perforated zone and foreign body-like granulomatous inflammation.

RESUMO

The technique of bonding fragments when dental fractures occur is a routine procedure. The objective of this investigation is to demonstrate the retention of the fragments bonded using a compound material according to the Simonsen technique. The most noteworthy conclusion is that this type of restoration lasts less than two years when in the mouth. For this reason other therapeutic options with better future expectations should be introduced.

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to carry out a comparative evaluation of the bond strength to enamel of two present-day fissure sealants, Helioseal and Concise; good adhesion of the material to the tooth surface is one of the requisites for the success of this preventive technique. To this end, 16 caries-free human premolars extracted for orthodontic reasons were used. Proximal, mesial, and distal surfaces were treated and studied. Bond strength was evaluated by the application of compression forces (Instron) at a velocity of 0.5 mm/mm. The overall results obtained do not show significant differences between the two materials.

RESUMO

Two Class III cases are described which are treated first during childhood with orthopedics and later by a second stage with orthodontics using bonded braces. One case was treated solely with a chin cup and the other with a chin cup, disjunction and anterior traction. Profile and occlusion changes are analyzed and the orthopedic effect of the treatment is discussed.

RESUMO

In this present work the authors state the importance of a careful anamnesis in a adenopathy in the maxillofacial pediatric area. Ever though in most cases the origin is purely dental, it can often have another etiology, such as tuberculosis.

RESUMO

Five brothers suffering from Peutz-Jeghers syndrome with freckles in the skin of the face and mucous membrane of the oral cavity, and intestinal polyps are reported. These patients have not been traditionally considered of being at risk. The current opinion is that patients with this disorder can develop malignancies in the gastrointestinal tract, and tumors in other organs.

RESUMO

In this essay the authors study a problem which has been considered a "social illness" pediatric the one about child abuse, talking under the oral manifestations point of view. In this way due to the relative frequency of this appearance, the odontopediatric, must known before a traumatism orofacial, the possible existence of child abuse.
