RESUMO

Among human tumorigenic viruses, the role of Human papillomavirus (HPV) has been proven as one of the most important oncoviruses that are associated with a large number of cancers. Most cancers of the genital area such cervical and anal cancer as are caused by HPV, and in many other cancers, such as colorectal, gastric, liver, esophageal, urinary bladder, and head and neck cancers, it is considered as one of the important risk factors. Our search was conducted for published researches between 2000 and 2022 by using several international databases including Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science as well as Google scholar. We also evaluated additional evidence from relevant published articles. It has been demonstrated that HPV can promote tumorigenesis via focusing on genes, proteins, and signaling pathways, by using E6 and E7 oncoproteins and inhibiting two crucial tumor suppressors, P53 and Rb. The following study was performed to investigate different malignant cancers under the influence of HPV infection and changes in molecular factors caused by HPV infection.

RESUMO

The study presents a novel approach to objectively assessing the upper-extremity motor symptoms in spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) using data collected via a wearable sensor worn on the patient's wrist during upper-extremity tasks associated with the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA). First, we developed an algorithm for detecting/extracting the cycles of the finger-to-nose test (FNT). We extracted multiple features from the detected cycles and identified features and parameters correlated with the SARA scores. Additionally, we developed models to predict the severity of symptoms based on the FNT. The proposed technique was validated on a dataset comprising the seventeen (n = 17) participants' assessments. The cycle detection technique showed an accuracy of 97.6% in a Bland-Altman analysis and a 94% accuracy (F1-score of 0.93) in predicting the severity of the FNT. Furthermore, the dependency of the upper-extremity tests was investigated through statistical analysis, and the results confirm dependency and potential redundancies in the upper-extremity SARA assessments. Our findings pave the way to enhance the utility of objective measures of SCA assessments. The proposed wearable-based platform has the potential to eliminate subjectivity and inter-rater variabilities in assessing ataxia.

RESUMO

Applying the min-projection strategy (MPS) to a three-phase grid-connected inverter to improve its transient performance is the main objective of this paper. For this purpose, the inverter is first modeled as a switched linear system. Then, the feasibility of the MPS technique is investigated and the stability criterion is derived. Hereafter, the fundamental equations of the MPS for the control of the inverter are obtained. The proposed scheme is simulated in PSCAD/EMTDC environment. The validity of the MPS approach is confirmed by comparing the obtained results with those of VOC method. The results demonstrate that the proposed method despite its simplicity provides an excellent transient performance, fully decoupled control of active and reactive powers, acceptable THD level and a reasonable switching frequency.

RESUMO

To test the hypothesis that inhibition of offspring angiogenesis by maternal undernutrition (MUN) is mediated by maternal glucocorticoids, 3 groups of dams were studied: controls received ad libitum food; MUN dams were food restricted by 50% from day 10 of gestation; and metyrapone (MET) dams were food restricted and treated with 0.5 mg/mL of MET, a glucocorticoid synthesis inhibitor. The MUN reduced birth weights, reduced vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) abundance in P1 aortas, reduced VEGF and VEGF-R2 abundances in P1 mesenteric arterioles, reduced arteriolar endothelial nitric oxide synthase abundance, reduced microvessel density in the anterior tibialis, reduced endothelial cell branching in culture, reduced arteriolar immunoreactivity for proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), increased active caspase 3 in P1 mesenteric arterioles, and decreased matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 abundances in lysates of P1 aortas. All of these effects were prevented by treatment with metyrapone. Collectively, these findings suggest that reduced angiogenesis in MUN offspring involves direct inhibitory effects of maternal glucorticoid on fetal VEGF and its receptors.

RESUMO

Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) has diverse roles in the female reproductive system including a role in blastocyst implantation. Aberrant expression of eNOS could therefore be significant in the pathogenesis of disorders of implantation. In this study, eNOS protein and mRNA levels in the endometrium of women with recurrent miscarriages, unexplained infertility and a control group were determined by compartmental quantitative immunohistochemistry and real-time reverse-transcription PCR. eNOS was found to be immunolocalized to all layers of the endometrium and vascular endothelium. eNOS protein was higher in glandular epithelium (P = 0.004) and luminal epithelium (P = 0.002), but not vascular endothelium and stroma, in women with recurrent miscarriage. Similarly, in women with unexplained infertility, eNOS was significantly higher (P < 0.03) in luminal epithelium but not in any other compartments compared with the control group. The levels of mRNA confirmed the protein data, demonstrating higher eNOS mRNA in the endometrium of women with recurrent miscarriage and unexplained infertility compared with controls. In conclusion, increased expression of eNOS in glandular and luminal epithelium of the endometrium in women with recurrent miscarriages and unexplained infertility suggests a detrimental effect of excess nitric oxide in endometrial receptivity and implantation.
