RESUMO

Some consumers have become very suspicious of certain health products such as medicines, medical devices and cosmetics. This can lead them to choose to make such products themselves. The aim of this work was therefore to analyse recipes for eye makeup and makeup removal products, as well as eyelash and eye contour care products. We collected recipes for do-it-yourself products found on blogs and social media (YouTube channels, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and TikTok) in French and English and then analyse their composition as well as how practical it is to make these recipes. We compiled and studied 275 recipes for products that can be used in or around the eye (periocular area). This work has shown that the quantities of the various ingredients are very imprecise, that the proposed substances are not suitable for the intended use and that the preservation of the finished products is not sufficiently guaranteed. The results obtained suggest that recipes for products intended for use in the eye or in the periocular area are not safe to use and that their use is likely to have relatively serious consequences.

INTRODUCTION: Families of young children face numerous barriers to accessing evidence-based mental health treatments. These barriers contribute to low engagement and treatment dropout; thus, researchers have examined initiatives to reduce barriers and increase treatment involvement, such as the use of mobile health units (MHUs). Initial research suggests the delivery of services using MHUs is promising for treatment outcomes, yet little is known about whether MHUs improve access to services for long-term mental health treatments, particularly for families of young children. METHOD: The current study explored differences for families participating in parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) delivered in an MHU versus an outpatient clinic. We compared treatment dropout, number of sessions attended, as well as reported barriers and treatment attitudes across locations. RESULTS: Findings indicated comparable dropout rates and severity of treatment barriers, but families accessing services at the MHU reported less positive treatment attitudes compared with families at the outpatient clinic. DISCUSSION: Our results highlight the need to understand the impact of MHUs for delivering mental health services, specifically which barriers are addressed, how this influences treatment completion, and how delivery of services in an MHU can influence family perceptions of therapy. RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: This case illustrates the feasibility, benefit, and putative enhanced ecological validity of performing internet-parent-child interaction therapy (I-PCIT) in the parent-child dyad's home for the treatment of behavior problems in medically ill children in the context of a global pandemic. PATIENT CONCERNS: Parents of a 5-year-old girl initially presented with concerns regarding inattentiveness, physical and verbal fighting with her siblings, and getting kicked out of daycare for hitting another child. Patient also had difficulties sleeping at night. DIAGNOSES: Patient was diagnosed with electrical status epilepticus in sleep, frontal lobe executive function deficit, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. INTERVENTIONS: Patient received a course of I-PCIT. Equipment included a cell phone with video capabilities connected to a videotelephony software program and set-up in the child's home by the parents. The treatment course included 8, 1-hour, weekly teaching/coaching sessions (7 of which were performed using I-PCIT) plus 1 follow-up booster session 6 months later. OUTCOMES: Home-based I-PCIT implementation greatly improved disruptive behaviors in a young child with electrical status epilepticus in sleep and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. CONCLUSION: A combination of I-PCIT and methylphenidate allowed her to be successful at home and in a school setting. More research is needed on PCIT adaptations, such as home-based and internet-based PCIT, for medically ill children as well as treatment protocols for combined therapies.
