RESUMO

A relationship between ribamydil concentration and the intensity of accumulation of peroxidation products was found while storing ribamydil-containing liposomes which indicated a significant pro-oxidant activity of ribamydil. Increasing lethality of guinea pigs and white mice infected with Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus was shown while using liposomal ribamydil containing from 4.78 to 6.82 nmol. ml-1 malonic dialdehyde which appeared to be associated with disordered function of the antioxidant system of the experimental animals.

RESUMO

The existence of virulence gradient in the main members of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis virus complex (VEE) was established by subcutaneous inoculation of immunologically competent outbred rats weighing 50-70 g. The virulence of the strains may be judged by a parameter such as the weight of the animal in 5 or 10 days after inoculation. The highest degree of protection was observed in the animals immunized with strain 15, the least in those immunized with strain 230. The above results indicate that adult white rats may be used as a model for the evaluation of the efficacy of protective preparations against viruses of the VEE complex.

RESUMO

The distribution of liposomes prepared from total mouse liver lipids and containing (3H)-labelled platelet activation factor in mouse organs was studied. It was shown that the majority of intraperitoneally injected liposomes prepared from total mouse liver lipids were transported to mouse liver and spleen. The interaction of liposomes with spleen cells in vitro revealed that the affinity of liposomes prepared from total spleen macrophage or total spleen lymphocyte lipids for mouse spleen cells was much higher than that of liposomes prepared from a model lipid mixture. The liposome binding to isolated spleen macrophages or lymphocytes was much higher than the liposome uptake by these cells in the total population of mouse spleen cells.
