RESUMO

The comparative evaluation of the diagnostic value of new cholera eltor bacteriophages ctx+ and ctx-, as well as monophages X[symbol: see text]-3, 4, 5, demonstrated their high activity and specificity. Using of these bacteriophages epidemic potential of 95% Vibrio cholerae eltor strains ctx+ and 84.5% of V. cholerae eltor stains ctx- was determined. Commercial monophages X[symbol: see text]-3, 4, 5 were inferior to bacteriophages ctx+ and ctx- in their diagnostic value: only 55% of strains having gene ctxAB were found to be epidemically dangerous, i.e. 45% of strains capable of causing the disease were not detected. On the basis of the results obtained in this investigation cholera eltor bacteriophages ctx+ and ctx- were recommended for introduction into practical use, while further production of cholera diagnostic monophages X[symbol: see text]-3, 4, 5 was recommended to be stopped.

RESUMO

The plasma levels of tyrosine and the lipid peroxidation intermediate malonic dialdehyde (MDA) were measured in children with pigmental nevus and melanoma. They were found to have antioxidative protective failure. The presence of pigmental nevus predetermines the high incidence of tyrosine metabolic abnormalities. In children with pigmental nevus and melanoma, there was an impairment in the correlation of the parameters of tyrosine metabolism, the rate of free radical lipid peroxidation processes, and the status of the antioxidative system. The findings suggest that children with pigmental nevus may be referred to as a high cancer risk group and monitoring of these parameters should be recommended at follow-up of pigmental nevi.

RESUMO

The comparative study of the enteropathogenic action of V. cholerae strains of group non-O1, serovar O139, and group O1 with different virulence on the APUD system of the intestine of suckling rabbits after intraenteral infection revealed that V. cholerae of group non-O1 induced inflammatory changes in the intestine and the pronounced toxic lesion of parenchymal organs. This was accompanied by a decrease in the number of apudocytes and an increase in the functional tension of the APUD system. After the infection of the animals with V. cholerae of group O1 changes in the APUD system and internal organs directly depended on the virulence of the microbes and the infective dose.

RESUMO

Lipid peroxidation (LP) occurring in pediatric cancer patients receiving polychemotherapy has been investigated. Plasma level of malonic dialdehyde in children with retinoblastoma (Rtb) was found to drop while it remained unchanged in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The treatment caused different changes in the red cell catalase levels in said groups: the enzyme concentration increased in the Rtb patients in the course of therapy and decreased in the ALL group. A slight decline in alpha-tocopherol and retinol levels the Rtb group was matched by a relevant rise in blood-plasma in the ALL group. To adjust LP regulation and improve resistance, antioxidants should be given to pediatric cancer patients suffering peroxidation-related stress.

RESUMO

Intra- or subepithelial focal purulent inflammation with necrosis of exudating leucocytes during 1-2 days is developed in consequence of intradermal injection of the living cholera vibrios, cultured on membrane agar, or their supernatants. Sometimes coagulative necrosis of cover epithelium arises without preliminary purulent inflammation stage from the very beginning. Intradermal injection of living cholera vibrios leads to the development of coagulative necrotic foci in derma too. The vascular genesis of alterations mentioned above is supposed.

RESUMO

The effect of different inorganic sources of reduced and oxidized nitrogen on biosynthesis of gentamicin was studied. It was shown that both the ammonium and the nitrate nitrogen were consumed by the antibiotic-producing organism. Out of all the salts tested only ammonium sulfate stimulated the biosynthesis of gentamicin. The positive role of this salt was due to both the ammonium and the sulfogroup, since the presence of the sulfogroup alone in sodium sulfat, magnesium or sulfuric acid resulted only in partial stimulation of gentamicin biosynthesis. Simultaneous addition of sulfuric acid ammonium nitrate which suppressed the antibiotic biosynthesis when used alone was equal to introduction of ammonium sulfate.

RESUMO

A synthetic medium for biosynthesis of gentamicin was developed. It includes maltose, gelatine, potassium phosphate, ammonium sulphate, cobalt chloride, sodium chloride, magnesium sulphate and zinc sulphate. The dynamics of the biochemical changes in the above medium was studied.

RESUMO

According to the literature data biosynthesis of novobiocin by Act. spheroides unlike other antibiotics does not practically depend on the phosphorus levels in the medium. In the present paper it is shown that production of novobiocin in natural media is sensitive to the concentration of mineral phosphorus in the medium. The optimal concentration of phosphorus for biosynthesis of novobiocin is almost within the same ranges as that for biosynthesis of streptomycin, tetracyclines and oleandomycin.
