RESUMO

Herein, an iodine-promoted reductive sulfenylation reaction of ketones with disulfides has been developed. This method provides an approach for synthesizing unsymmetrical alkyl-alkyl and alkyl-aryl sulfides in a single step. Investigation of the reaction mechanism revealed that ketones play a dual role in this process. They react with disulfides to produce vinyl thioethers and act as effective organic hydride donors, reducing the number of vinyl thioethers that are formed in situ. This study expands the range of applications of ketones in chemical synthesis.

RESUMO

While brain regions function in coordination to mediate diverse behaviors, techniques allowing simultaneous monitoring of many deep brain regions remain limited. Here, we present a multi-fiber recording protocol that enables simultaneous recording of fluorescence signals from multiple brain regions in freely behaving mice. We describe steps for assembling a multi-fiber array and patch cord, implantation, and recording. We then detail procedures for data extraction and visualization. This protocol enables a comprehensive view of the neural activity at the network level. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Guo et al.1.

RESUMO

This study explored the ambiguous characteristics and influencing factors of parental anxiety, practices, and parent-child relationships among families with young children during a sudden COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai, China. An online survey was conducted from 1 June to 10 November 2022, with 477 valid responses. Parental anxiety, practices, and parent-child relationships were evaluated. During this lockdown, 72.6% caregivers felt anxious about parenting to different degrees, with only a small proportion experiencing extreme anxiety. Parental anxiety was mainly influenced by whether the caregivers faced parenting issues and external parenting difficulties. The frequency of two-parent-child activities of reading books or looking at picture books with their children and telling stories to them significantly increased. Caregivers' occupations of either professional or technical personnel and working from home were the most significant influencing factors. Mother-child relationships were relatively good. In conclusion, parental anxiety, practices, and parent-child relationships were relatively good and stable among families with young children during this lockdown. In the context of public health emergencies like COVID-19, more parenting support and knowledge should be provided to caregivers from professionals in CHCs or hospitals to decrease parental anxiety and improve parent-child relationships. Full advantage should be taken of working from home to promote parent-child activities.

RESUMO

Sexual and aggressive behaviors are vital for species survival and individual reproductive success. Although many limbic regions have been found relevant to these behaviors, how social cues are represented across regions and how the network activity generates each behavior remains elusive. To answer these questions, we utilize multi-fiber photometry (MFP) to simultaneously record Ca2+ signals of estrogen receptor alpha (Esr1)-expressing cells from 13 limbic regions in male mice during mating and fighting. We find that conspecific sensory information and social action signals are widely distributed in the limbic system and can be decoded from the network activity. Cross-region correlation analysis reveals striking increases in the network functional connectivity during the social action initiation phase, whereas late copulation is accompanied by a "dissociated" network state. Based on the response patterns, we propose a mating-biased network (MBN) and an aggression-biased network (ABN) for mediating male sexual and aggressive behaviors, respectively.

RESUMO

Background: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is self-injurious behavior without suicidal intent commonly seen in the adolescent population and poses a serious threat to the life safety of adolescents. Related researches suggest a possible correlation between addiction and the occurrence of NSSI. This study aimed to explore the correlation between addiction and NSSI from a molecular biological perspective by analyzing the differential expression of addiction-related genes in NSSI patients. Methods: (1) The association between addiction and non-suicidal self-injury in a Chinese adolescent population was verified with the help of questionnaires on substance and non-substance addictions and non-suicidal self-injury among 1,329 adolescents in China, (2) Screening for key genes associated with addiction by bioinformatics analysis, and (3) RT-qPCR experiment was performed to validate key genes and Receiver Operating Characteristic curves were plotted for target genes. Results: (1) Substance and non-substance addictions were all significantly correlated with non-suicidal self-injury, (2) Four target genes: SERPINA3, SLC14A1, RPS6 and RPS3A were screened by bioinformatics technique, and (3) Relative quantitative analysis by RT-qPCR revealed that the expression levels of SLC14A1 (p < 0.01), RPS6 (p < 0.05) and RPS3A (p < 0.01) were significantly higher in NSSI patients than in healthy controls. Conclusion: (1) The significant association between addiction and NSSI exists in the Chinese adolescent population and (2) Addiction-related genes SLC14A1, RPS6, and RPS3A are differentially expressed in adolescents with NSSI. The genes have the potential to become biological markers for the diagnosis of NSSI.

RESUMO

Aggression is costly and requires tight regulation. Here we identify the projection from estrogen receptor alpha-expressing cells in the caudal part of the medial preoptic area (cMPOAEsr1) to the ventrolateral part of the ventromedial hypothalamus (VMHvl) as an essential pathway for modulating aggression in male mice. cMPOAEsr1 cells increase activity mainly during male-male interaction, which differs from the female-biased response pattern of rostral MPOAEsr1 (rMPOAEsr1) cells. Notably, cMPOAEsr1 cell responses to male opponents correlated with the opponents' fighting capability, which mice could estimate based on physical traits or learn through physical combats. Inactivating the cMPOAEsr1-VMHvl pathway increased aggression, whereas activating the pathway suppressed natural intermale aggression. Thus, cMPOAEsr1 is a key population for encoding opponents' fighting capability-information that could be used to prevent animals from engaging in disadvantageous conflicts with superior opponents by suppressing the activity of VMHvl cells essential for attack behaviors.

RESUMO

Dry reforming of methane (DRM) is an efficient process to transform methane and carbon dioxide to syngas. Nickel could show good catalytic activity for DRM, whereas the deactivation of nickel surfaces by the formation of inert carbon structures is inevitable. In this study, we carry out a detailed investigation of the evolution and catalytic performance of the carbon-covered surface structure on Ni(100) with a combined density functional theory and microkinetic modeling approach. The results suggest that the pristine Ni(100) surface is prone to carbon deposition and accumulation under reaction conditions. Further studies show that over this carbon-covered reconstructed Ni(100) surface, a carbon-based Mars-van-Krevelen mechanism would be favored, and the activity and coke resistance is promoted. This surface state and reaction mechanism were rarely reported before and would provide more insights into the DRM process under real reaction conditions and would help design more stable Ni catalysts.

RESUMO

It is significantly important to modulate the electrical properties of graphene films through doping for building desired electronic devices. One of the effective doping methods is the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of graphene films with heteroatom doping during the process, but this usually results in nitrogen-doped graphene with low doping levels, high defect density, and low carrier mobility. In this work, we developed a novel condensation-assisted CVD method for the synthesis of high-quality nitrogen-doped graphene (NG) films at low temperatures of 400 °C using solid 3,4,5-trichloropyridine as a carbon and nitrogen source. The condensation system was employed to reduce the volatilization of the solid source during the non-growth stage, which leads to a great improvement of quality of as-prepared NG films. Compared to the one synthesized using conventional CVD methods, the NG films synthesized using condensation-assisted CVD present extremely low defects with a ratio of from D- to G-peak intensity (ID/IG) in the Raman spectrum lower than 0.35. The corresponding total N content, graphitic nitrogen/total nitrogen ratio, and carrier mobility reach 3.2 at%, 67%, and 727 cm2V-1S-1, respectively. This improved condensation-assisted CVD method provides a facile and well-controlled approach for fabricating high-quality NG films, which would be very useful for building electronic devices with high electrical performance.

RESUMO

Objective: Learning burnout affects the positive development of college students. The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between family socioeconomic status (FSES) and learning burnout, as well as the mediation effect of subjective well-being and the moderation effect of resilience in this relation. Methods: A total of 550 Chinese college students from Yunnan completed a questionnaire measuring the research variables in this study. Results: (1) After controlling for participants' gender and age, FSES negatively, and significantly predicted learning burnout; (2) subjective well-being partially mediated the relationship between FSES and learning burnout; and (3) the direct effect of FSES on learning burnout and the mediation effect of subjective well-being was moderated by resilience. The level of learning burnout of individuals with low resilience increased significantly with the decrease of FSES, and the level of learning burnout of individuals with high resilience decreased significantly with the increase in subjective well-being. Conclusion: The present findings support the moderated mediation model underlying the relationship between FSES and learning burnout. This also has significant implications for formulating prevention and intervention measures on learning burnout among college students. Limitations: First of all, this study used the cross-sectional study design, which cannot make a causal inference. In addition, the sample in this study is university students from Kunming, which may affect the popularity of the results.

RESUMO

Objective: To examine the relation between mobile phone addiction and high school students' depression, and its inner mechanism-the sequential mediating roles of the cyberbullying victimization and the cyberbullying perpetration in this relationship. Methods: 1297 high school students were recruited to complete the Smartphone Addiction Scale, European Cyberbullying Intervention Project Questionnaire and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale. Results: (1) Mobile phone addiction was positively correlated with and high school students' depression; (2) cyberbullying victimization and the cyberbullying perpetration significantly mediated the relation between mobile phone addiction and high school students' depression, which contained tow mediating paths-the independent mediating effects of cyberbullying victimization and the sequential mediating effect of cyberbullying victimization and the cyberbullying perpetration; (3) there are gender differences in the sequential mediation model, and boys who are victims of cyberbullying are more likely to develop into cyberbullying perpetrators than girls. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that depression among high school students with mobile phone addiction can be eliminated through the development of cyberbullying victimization and the cyberbullying perpetration.

RESUMO

Background: The occupation expectation of medical students can predict the possibility of their future employment in the medical industry, and empathy is the special ability of medical students in their study and career, which affects the development of their occupation expectation. Objective: To explore the relationship between resilience and subjective well-being between medical students' empathy and occupation expectation and their internal mechanisms. Design: Data were collected from October 2020 to March 2021 using a paper questionnaire survey. Subjective: 586 medical students at a key medical university in Yunnan Province were invited to complete the survey. Main Measures: The Basic Empathy Scale, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire, and Occupation Expectation Scale. Key Results: The empathy is intended to affect the occupation expectation of medical students through four paths. The direct path effect value is 0.073 (95% CI: 0.007∼0.217), the indirect path 1 effect value is 0.078 (95% CI: 0.022∼0.134), indirect path 2 effect value is 0.010 (95% CI: 0.005∼0.022), indirect path 3 effect value is 0.022 (95% CI: 0.0604∼0.039), all the confidence intervals do not contain 0, and the mediated effect ratio is 60.109%. Conclusion: Empathy has an impact on occupation expectation of medical students through the sequential mediating effects of resilience and subjective well-being. Medical colleges should fully consider the role of protective factors when cultivating and enhancing the occupation expectation of clinical medical students. Strengthening the intervention of emotional factors (empathy), self-regulating ability (psychological toughness) and cognitive factors (subjective well-being) is an important way to effectively establish professional values, improve occupation expectation of medical students and reduce the turnover rate of medical students.

RESUMO

Bio-valorization of organic waste streams, such as food waste and waste activated sludge, to lactic acid (LA) has recently drawn much attention. It offers an opportunity for resource recovery, alleviates environmental issues and potentially turns a profit. In this study, both stable and high LA yield (0.72 ± 0.15 g/g total chemical oxygen demand) and productivity rate (0.53 g/L•h) were obtained through repeated batch fermentation. Moreover, stable solubilization and increase in the critical hydrolase activities were achieved. Depletions of ammonia and phosphorus were correlated with the LA production. The relative abundance of the key LA bacteria genera (i.e., Alkaliphilus, Dysgonomonas, Enterococcus and Bifidobacterium) stabilized in the repeated batch reactor at a higher level (44.5 ± 2.53%) in comparison with the batch reactor (26.2 ± 4.74%). This work show a practical way for the sustainable valorization of organic wastes to LA by applying the repeated batch mode during biological treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Wieacker-Wolff syndrome (WWS) is a congenital X-linked neuromuscular disorder, which was firstly reported in 1985. Zinc finger C4H2-type containing (ZC4H2) gene has been found to be associated with the disease pathogenesis. However, the underlying mechanism remains elusive. METHODS: Whole-exome sequencing was performed to identify the mutations. Expression plasmids were constructed and cell culture and immune-biochemical assays were used to examine the effects of the mutation. RESULTS: We reported a female patient with classical symptoms of WWS and discovered a novel nonsense heterozygous mutation (p.R67X; c.199C>T) in ZC4H2 gene in the patient but not in her parents. The mutation resulted in a 66 amino-acid truncated ZC4H2 protein. The mutation is located in the key helix domain and it altered the subcellular locations of the mutant ZC4H2 protein. X-chromosome inactivation (XCI) pattern analysis revealed that the XCI ratio of the proband was 22:78. CONCLUSION: Female heterozygous carriers with nonsense mutation with a truncated ZC4H2 protein could lead to the pathogenesis of Wieacker-Wolff syndrome and our study provides a potential new target for the disease treatment.

RESUMO

Active defense against a conspecific aggressor is essential for survival. Previous studies revealed strong c-Fos expression in the ventrolateral part of the ventromedial hypothalamus (VMHvl) in defeated animals. Here, we examined the functional relevance and in vivo responses of the VMHvl during conspecific defense. We found that VMHvl cells expressing estrogen receptor α (Esr1) are acutely excited during active conspecific defense. Optogenetic inhibition of the cells compromised an animal's ability to actively defend against an aggressor, whereas activating the cells elicited defense-like behaviors. Furthermore, the VMHvl is known for its role in aggression. In vivo recording and c-Fos mapping revealed differential organization of the defense and aggression-responsive cells in the VMHvl. Specifically, defense-activated cells are concentrated in the anterior part of the VMHvl, which preferentially targets the periaqueductal gray (PAG). Thus, our study identified an essential neural substrate for active conspecific defense and expanded the function of the VMHvl.

RESUMO

In this work, ultrasound has been employed to help prepare Al-Sc alloys using the molten salt electrolysis. The effects of synergetic ultrasound on the Sc content and primary Al3Sc particles of Al-Sc alloys are specifically investigated. Ultrasound can strongly promote the Sc content of the electrolytic Al-Sc alloy and transform the large Al3Sc phase clusters into fine cubic particles. Meanwhile, it also homogenizes the distribution of Al3Sc phase. The Sc content increases by 74.4% up to 1.43 wt% when applying ultrasound during both electrolysis and solidification process. It also transforms the molten salts/liquid Al interface by enhancing the wettability. The huge primary Al3Sc phase clusters transform into fine cubic particles by ultrasound. The average particle size reduces from 77 ±â€¯36 µm down to 21 ±â€¯8 µm. The concerned mechanism have been discussed in detail.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical and genetic characteristics of a case with Pallister-Killian syndrome (PKS). METHODS: Chromosomal karyotype of umbilical cord blood sample derived from a 36-year-old pregnant woman was analyzed by G-banding analysis. After birth, the child was further analyzed with single nucleotide polymorphism microarray (SNP array) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using 12pter/12qter probes. RESULTS: G-banding analysis showed that the fetus has a karyotype of 46,XY [77]/47,XY,+mar [23]. After birth, Affymetrix CytoScan 750K array analysis showed a segmental tetrasomy of arr [hg19] 12p13.33p11.1(173 786 - 34 835 641)×4 and a 34.6 Mb repeat at 12p13.33p11.1 with in the neonate. FISH analysis confirmed that 39% of cells harbored the 12p tetrasomy. CONCLUSION: Combined clinical examination, G-banded chromosomal karyotyping, FISH and microarray analysis can delineate the origin and fragments of small supernumerary marker chromosomes and diagnose PKS with precision.

RESUMO

Aimed at providing technology for a rapid nutrition diagnosis system of micronutrients in Armeniaca vulgaris cv. Luntaibaixing, we established an element concentration estimation model for its foliar ferrum (Fe) and manganese (Mn) concentration based on spectrum analysis. The foliar spectrum reflectance at various phenological periods of fruit development under different soil fertility conditions was measured by Unispec-SC spectrometer. By analyzing the correlation of foliar Fe, Mn concentration at various phenological periods of fruit development, the spectrum reflectance Rλ and its first-order differential f' (Rλ), we filtered out its sensitive bands. And we established an element concentration estimation model for its foliar Fe and Mn at various phenological periods of fruit development with the linear regression model. The results showed that the spectral sensitive bands of foliar Fe in fruit setting period were 873 and 874 nm, 375 and 437 nm in fruit core-hardening period, 836 and 837 nm in maturity period and 325 and 1 054 nm in post-harvest period. However, the spectral sensitive bands of Mn were 913 and 1 129 nm, 425 and 970 nm, 390 and 466 nm, 423 and 424 nm, respectively. The Fe and Mn concentration of A. vulgaris cv. Luntaibaixing leaves were the most relevant to the first-order differential f' (RD) of its spectrum reflectance, whose linear spectrum estimation model fitting degree was the highest and reached to a significant or highly significant level. It showed that the spectral sensitive bands of Fe and Mn element varied with different phenological periods of fruit development. The spectrum estimation models for its foliar Fe and Mn concentration could be established with linear model according to its first-order differential f' (Rλ).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The Transverse Myelitis Consortium Working Group has proposed new diagnostic criteria for acute transverse myelitis. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate the relations between clinical variables and functional prognosis using new criteria. METHODS: We reviewed 39 Chinese cases meeting the new criteria, recorded clinical epidemiological data, and followed activities of daily living measuring scale (Modified Barthel Index). RESULTS: Thirty-nine children met new criteria for definite acute transverse myelitis in the past 14 years between 1995 and 2008. Mean follow-up time was 102.7 months. Conversion to multiple sclerosis occurred in two patients (5.1%). Those children with a short time to maximal deficits, long time of peak neurological impairment and initial time of treatment, increased protein levels of the cerebrospinal fluid, and secondary infection were more likely to have residual neurological deficits, resulting in lower qualities of life (P = 0.005, P = 0.003, P = 0.011, P = 0.0012, P = 0.000, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: A short time to maximal deficits, long time of peak neurological impairment and initial time of treatment, increased protein levels of cerebrospinal fluid, and secondary infection played important roles in predicting poor prognosis.
