RESUMO

Given the significant evolution in the global food consumption pattern, animal protein needs have increased. This pattern has been leading to intensified efforts to develop the poultry industry that adopts scientific methods and advanced technologies since poultry meat is an important source of animal protein. Therefore, this study aimed to use different levels of therapeutic Curcuma in the diets provided to broilers and its role in production traits. This study was conducted at the University of Baghdad / College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences. This experiment used 315 unsexed Ross 308 chicks one day old. The chicks were randomly distributed into seven treatments, with three replicates per treatment, at a rate of 15 chicks for each replicate. The treatments were T1, which represents the control treatment without any addition, and T2 added 0.3% of Therapeutic Curcuma powder, while T3 added 0.6% of Therapeutic Curcuma powder). Moreover, T4 represents adding 0.9% of Therapeutic Curcuma powder, and T5 includes adding 1.2% of Therapeutic Curcuma powder. Finally, T6 was characterized by adding 1.5% of Therapeutic Curcuma powder, while T7 added 1.8% of Therapeutic Curcuma powder. The effect of using Therapeutic Curcuma powder in the above treatments showed that the use of Therapeutic Curcumapowder in broiler diets significantly increased (P<0.05) in the productive traits represented by body weight, weight gain, feed consumption, and feed conversion ratio. Moreover, it is possible to use Therapeutic Curcuma powder with a percentage of 0.9%, which improves the production traits.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the additive action of ginger starch on the antifungal activity of honey against Candida albicans (C. albicans). METHODS: C. albicans was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of four varieties of Algerian honey. Lower concentrations of honey than the MIC were incubated with a set of concentrations of starch and then added to media to determine the minimum additive inhibitory concentration (MAIC). RESULTS: The MIC for the four varieties of honey without starch against C. albicans ranged between 38% and 42% (v/v). When starch was incubated with honey and then added to media, a MIC drop was noticed with each variety. MAIC of the four varieties ranged between 32% honey (v/v) with 4% starch and 36% honey (v/v) with 2% starch. CONCLUSIONS: The use of ginger starch allows honey benefit and will constitute an alternative way against the resistance to antifungal agents.

RESUMO

The penile veins are thought to be responsible for some erectile disorders. The aim of this study was to describe the anatomy and function of these veins. The venous systems of 25 cadaveric penises were studied by various anatomic and histologic techniques. The superficial veins arising from the tegumentary layers drain into the superficial dorsal vein which in three-quarters of cases empties into the left great saphenous vein. The veins of the deep internal system, running below the deep fascia of the penis, emerge from the erectile bodies and can be divided into two systems, one anterosuperior and the other posteroinferior. The anterosuperior system comprises the veins of the glans which will form the deep dorsal vein; the latter receives blood from the medial portion of the corpus spongiosum and from the free portion of the corpora cavernosum mainly via the circumflex veins. It ends in the pre-prostatic plexus. The posteroinferior system, issuing from the posterior portion of the erectile bodies, is composed of the bulbar, cavernous and crural veins which drain towards the pre-prostatic plexus and the internal pudendal veins. Anastomoses link the two networks, superficial and deep. Study of the structure of the veins of the deep system reveals the presence of muscular cushions, which we have shown to have adrenergic innervation. These findings are compared with those of the literature, which show variations which are mainly of number. The place of veins in the mechanism of erection is discussed.

RESUMO

In transverse testicular ectopia, both testes are present in the same hemiscrotum. We report such a case and review the possible mechanism of this anomaly, the differential diagnosis, recognition, and management.

RESUMO

The first dorsal metatarsal artery (MDA) is usually described as the last collateral branch of dorsalis pedis artery (DPA, which anastomoses with the lateral plantar branch of the posterior tibial artery (PTA). Doppler assessment on DMA of a flow does not always mean that DPA is free, but may show a functional plantar arch. The aim of this study was to determinate the patency rate of this plantar arch and to appreciate the part of DPA in the vascularisation of the foot. Anatomical descriptions were compared with our own dissections, (25 cadavers and 55 arteriographies in fetus), angiographic analysis and vascular plastic casts. The functional aspect of this study was made by Doppler examination of DMA using alternative or simultaneous compression of the main arteries of the ankle, until doppler curves were canceled. That was done on healthy volunteers and arteriosclerotic patients. The results show that, from the anatomical viewpoint, the plantar arch is almost always present, since it was found in 88% of adult pieces. Nevertheless, on Doppler examination, the plantar arch was found functional only in 64% of healthy people. The difference between the two rates emphasizes the fact that anatomical anastomosis are note always open, according to the subject and probably to the age. Looking after MDA permeability in patients with arteriosclerosis leads to point out the main vascular access to the foot, for limb salvage, and the leading part of distal anastomosis to keep good trophicity of the toes.

RESUMO

Infantile myofibromatosis is a rare mesenchymal disorder in infants and children. We recently managed three children with this disorder; in this report we describe the cases and provide a review of the literature.

RESUMO

Over a 3-year period, the diagnosis of persistent neonatal hyperinsulinism (PNH) was made in seven infants, from an unselected cohort of 18,726 births, all of Saudi Arabian origin. Thus the incidence of PNH was one in 2,675 births. The high incidence, associated consanguinity, and occurrence in siblings suggest that PNH may be inherited as an autosomal recessive disorder.

RESUMO

In reference to four particular cases where a venous thrombosis associated with the use of oral contraceptives, the authors review the various factors of this problem. The importance of the concomitant use of tobacco as well as risk factors such as hyperlipidemia and hypertension, are especially stressed. These four cases, almost of an experimental nature, permit to correlate precisely the interaction between estro-progestative medications and the occurrence of venous thromboses.

RESUMO

The authors sum up the anatomical aspects of the arteries of the hand. They emphasise the fact that, by the side of the classical description; there is a lot of variations. These can be explained by organogenesis, showing that hand arteries pass over several stages, before reaching the terminal one. Generally, it seems that the classical diagram correspond to the majority of cases, and that there is a main flow for hand's arteries: this are the superficial and deep arches, which give common and proper digital arteries. About the innervation, this structures are very richly innervated, but this sympathetic innervation is not so precisely delimited in its topography, and for that reason, its seems to be difficult to give an clear diagram of its origin and distribution. That can explain surgical treatment's failure in vasomotor syndromes of upper limbs.
