RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have found that hyperuricaemia (HUA) is closely related to intestinal flora imbalance. AIM: The current study investigated the effects and safety of washed microbiota transplantation (WMT) on serum uric acid (SUA) levels in different populations. METHODS: A total of 144 patients who received WMT from July 2016 to April 2020 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University and had SUA data before treatment were selected. Changes in SUA levels before and after treatment were retrospectively reviewed based on short-term and mid-term effects of WMT regimens. SUA levels measured in the last test within 3 mo after the first WMT represented the short-term effect, and SUA levels measured in the last test within 3-6 mo after the first WMT represented the mid-term effect. The patients were divided into an HUA group (SUA > 416 µM) and a normal uric acid (NUA) group (SUA ≥ 202 µM to ≤ 416 µM) based on pretreatment SUA levels. RESULTS: Average short-term SUA levels in the HUA group decreased after WMT (481.00 ± 99.85 vs 546.81 ± 109.64 µM, n = 32, P < 0.05) in 25/32 patients and returned to normal in 10/32 patients. The short-term level of SUA reduction after treatment moderately correlated with SUA levels before treatment (r = 0.549, R² = 0.300, P < 0.05). Average SUA levels decreased after the first and second courses of WMT (469.74 ± 97.68 vs 540.00 ± 107.16 µM, n = 35, and 465.57 ± 88.88 vs 513.19 ± 78.14 µM, n = 21, P < 0.05). Short-term and mid-term SUA levels after WMT and SUA levels after the first, second and third courses of WMT were similar to the levels before WMT in the NUA group (P > 0.05). Only 1/144 patients developed mild diarrhea after WMT. CONCLUSION: WMT reduces short-term SUA levels in patients with HUA with mild side effects but has no obvious effect on SUA levels in patients with NUA.

RESUMO

Multifunctional materials that exhibit different physical properties in a single phase have potential for use in multifunctional devices. Herein, we reported an organic-inorganic hybrid compound [(18-crown-6)K][Fe(1)Cl(1)4 ]0.5 [Fe(2)Cl(2)4 ]0.5 (1) by incorporating KCl and FeCl3 into a 18-crown-6 molecule, which acts as a host of the six O atoms providing a lone pair of electrons to anchor the guest potassium cation, and [FeCl4 ]- as a counterion for charge balance to construct a complex salt. This salt exhibited a one-step reversible structural transformation giving two separate high and low temperature phases at 373 K, which was confirmed by systematic characterizations including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements, variable-temperature structural analyses, and dielectric, impedance, variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements. Interestingly, the structural transformation was coupled to both hysteretic dielectric phase transition, conductivity switch and magnetic-phase transition at 373 K. This result gives an idea for designing a new type of phase-transition materials harboring technologically important magnetic, conductivity and dielectric properties.

RESUMO

In recent years, Dysmicoccus neobrevipes Beardsley (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) is found as one of important alien species in China. For the alien pest, temperature always is a crucial factor on constructing stable population. In this study, the development and reproduction of D. neobrevipes population of pumpkin under different temperatures were investigated. The developmental duration, developmental rate, survival rate and fecundity of D. neobrevipes were compared in the laboratory under the conditions of 17, 20, 23, 26, 29 and 32 ℃, photoperiod 14L:10D, RH (75±5)%, and the life table of the laboratory population was constructed. The results showed that in 20-29 ℃, the developmental durations of every stage of D. neobrevipes all decreased with the increasing temperature; under 20 ℃, both female and male nymph D. neobrevipes had the longest duration, being 46.95 and 50.26 d, respectively. The female and male nymph D. neobrevipes grew most fast under 29 ℃ (20.28 d) and 32 ℃ (20.70 d). The relationship between the developmental rate and temperature for each stage could be simulated by the quadratic regression. In addition, we found that the temperature could impact the survival rate of D. neobrevipes. The highest survival rate of D. neobrevipes was recorded at 29 ℃ for both female (70.3%) and male (69.3%) nymphs. The developmental threshold temperature of female and male was 13.80 ℃ and 11.61 ℃, and the accumulated temperature of female and male was 491.50 and 388.85 day-degrees, respectively. Both pre-oviposition duration and adult longevity decreased with increasing temperature, and the highest fecundity per female was 442.2 eggs at 29 ℃, and the lowest 111.8 eggs at 20 ℃. The population trend indexes under 20 ℃ and 29 ℃ were 19.1 and 168.2, respectively. At 17 ℃ and 32 ℃, D. neobrevipes of the 1st instar nymphs and 3rd instar nymphs were found to stop growth, suggesting that excessively high or low temperature was unfavorable to the growth of D. neobrevipes. In conclusion, temperature could significantly affect the growth and development, survivorship, reproduction and population increasing of D. neobrevipes, and the most suitable temperature range for this pest is from 23 ℃ to 29 ℃.

RESUMO

Tetraphenylethylene (TPE)-based glycoconjugates were easily synthesized by copper(I)-catalyzed "click reactions" between propargyl-attached TPE and azido-functionalized sugars. The TPE compound bearing lactosyl moieties (Lac-TPE) was found to be a fluorescence "turn-on" sensor for cholera toxin by virtue of aggregation-induced emission characteristics of the TPE motif owing to the specific interaction of lactose with the cholera toxin B subunit, whilst a cellobiose-functionalized TPE derivative did not show any response to the toxin. Therefore, Lac-TPE shows promising applications in the detection of cholera toxin, as well as in the investigation of carbohydrate-protein interaction.
