RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Marginalized mothers are disproportionately impacted by depression and face barriers in accessing mental health treatment. Recent efforts have focused on building capacity to address maternal depression in Head Start; however, it is unclear if mental health inequities can be addressed by two-generation programs in Head Start settings. Therefore, this study examined the implementation outcomes and processes of a two-generation program called "Healthy Moms, Healthy Kids" (HMHK) that provided an evidence-based depression treatment to ethnic minority Head Start mothers. METHOD: Quantitative and qualitative data were collected and merged in a convergent mixed method design in accordance with the RE-AIM Qualitative Evaluation for Systematic Translation (RE-AIM QuEST) framework. Qualitative data included interviews with 52 key stakeholders, including intervention participants and staff members, and 176 sets of meeting minutes from the implementation period. Quantitative data included intervention study data and administrative data. RESULTS: It was difficult for HMHK to reach the target population, with only 16.8% of eligible mothers choosing to participate. However, mothers who participated experienced reductions in depressive symptoms and parenting stress and shared a variety of positive impacts in interviews. The program was also more successful in enrolling Latinx mothers who were Spanish-speaking or bilingual rather than English-speaking and Black/African American mothers, limiting its reach. CONCLUSION: Providing IPT therapy groups was effective in reducing maternal depressive symptoms and stress for those who enrolled, but additional work should focus on reducing barriers to participation, considering other delivery models to meet participants' needs, and identifying culturally relevant ways to meet the needs of Black mothers.

RESUMO

This study explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on low-income, Latinx mothers in Southern California with a history of depression, including undocumented mothers and members of mixed status families. Drawing participants from a parent study that provided a maternal depression intervention to Head Start mothers (n = 119), this mixed method study integrates qualitative and quantitative data in a convergent design. Thirty-four mothers completed semi-structured qualitative interviews and standardized questionnaires in the fall of 2020. Mothers shared overwhelming economic difficulties, with the majority reporting that their family income decreased and half reporting that they were unable to pay for housing. Stressors were compounded for undocumented mothers and members of mixed-status families who were excluded from major relief programs. Stress affected maternal mental health, and mothers with precarious status reported differences in functioning. Mothers also identified positive ways that they coped with adversity. Results show that Latinx mothers with a history of depression, particularly mothers with precarious immigration status, continue to suffer considerable economic, social, and emotional impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Social workers can support the human rights of this population by advocating for financial relief, food assistance, and the expansion of medical-legal partnerships and physical and mental health services.

RESUMO

Anti-PD-1 based immune therapies are thought to be dependent on antigen processing and presentation mechanisms. To characterize the immune-dependent mechanisms that predispose stage III/IV melanoma patients to respond to anti-PD-1 therapies, we performed a multi-omics study consisting of expression proteomics and targeted immune-oncology-based mRNA sequencing. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue samples were obtained from stage III/IV patients with melanoma prior to anti-PD-1 therapy. The patients were first stratified into poor and good responders based on whether their tumors had or had not progressed while on anti-PD-1 therapy for 1 year. We identified 263 protein/gene candidates that displayed differential expression, of which 223 were identified via proteomics and 40 via targeted-mRNA analyses. The downstream analyses of expression profiles using MetaCore software demonstrated an enrichment of immune system pathways involved in antigen processing/presentation and cytokine production/signaling. Pathway analyses showed interferon (IFN)-γ-mediated signaling via NF-κB and JAK/STAT pathways to affect immune processes in a cell-specific manner and to interact with the inducible nitric oxide synthase. We review these findings within the context of available literature on the efficacy of anti-PD-1 therapy. The comparison of good and poor responders, using efficacy of PD-1-based therapy at 1 year, elucidated the role of antigen presentation in mediating response or resistance to anti-PD-1 blockade.

OBJECTIVE: to characterize nursing interns, to analyze the associated factors and attitude towards the research of nursing inmates. METHODS: It was quantitative, descriptive method, transversal. A sociodemographic questionnaire was used, a modified Likert attitudes scale that was applied to 80 inmates of the Nursing Program of the Lord of Sipan University in Peru. RESULTS: 58,8% of nursing interns, show a negative attitude towards scientific research, while 41,3% of them show a positive attitude towards scientific research, It is necessary to improve the positive attitude by means of a programme of research competences otherwise the professional exercise could become purely technical. CONCLUSIONS: there is statistical evidence to conclude that the factors: age, sex, research subject developed, participation in investigative activities and the number of research works carried out are associated with the attitude towards the investigation of nursing interns.

RESUMO

Chronic inflammation is a major risk factor for colorectal cancer. The p38/MAPKAP Kinase 2 (MK2) kinase axis controls the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines that mediate both chronic inflammation and tumor progression. Blockade of this pathway has been previously reported to suppress inflammation and to prevent colorectal tumorigenesis in a mouse model of inflammation-driven colorectal cancer, by mechanisms that are still unclear. Here, using whole-animal and tissue-specific MK2 KO mice, we show that MK2 activity in the myeloid compartment promotes tumor progression by supporting tumor neoangiogenesis in vivo. Mechanistically, we demonstrate that MK2 promotes polarization of tumor-associated macrophages into protumorigenic, proangiogenic M2-like macrophages. We further confirmed our results in human cell lines, where MK2 chemical inhibition in macrophages impairs M2 polarization and M2 macrophage-induced angiogenesis. Together, this study provides a molecular and cellular mechanism for the protumorigenic function of MK2.

RESUMO

The main objective of this work was to optimize the process of fractionation of the bagasse of Agave angustifolia Haw, applying organosolv assisted with microwaves. The DCC was used to evaluate the effect of independent variables such as ethanol concentration (40, 50, and 60%) and reaction time (1, 1.5, and 2 h) on yield, cellulose and lignin percentages. Lignocellulosic fractions (F1 and F2) were obtained by means of organosolv assisted with microwave in an open system (atmospheric pressure) and a closed system (controlled pressure). The lignocellulosic fractions were microstructurally characterized. The highest extraction yields (70.39%) were reached in the open system at 50% ethanol for 1.5 h. The highest percentages of LK (5.05%) were obtained in the closed system at 60% ethanol for 2 h. The SEM photomicrograph showed that the microstructure of F1 was retained even after treatment with 60% ethanol for 2 h, and the exposure of the fibrillar part was observed obtaining the disposition of pectin.

This text is born from the commitment of a study group that is gestated in the light of taste, passion, quality and humanization processes, in one of many possibilities to accompany the other. It is reflected from the epistemological bases of dynamic psychology, which allow us to think about new constructions and concrete actions for the well-being of the human being. The first section aims at a historical and chronological approach to the term "dynamic", addressed from psychology and psychoanalysis. In the second instance, reference is made to the multiple views of the human being, naming some authors that facilitate the understanding of subjectivity from the relational, representational and evolutionary. Finally, some learning and commitments are exposed, generated from the research carried out, seeking to innovate through practical actions with and for man.
