RESUMO

Austramastodus apterus gen. et sp. nov. from the Cape Range Peninsula, Australia (Western Australia) is described. This is the first Thaumastodinae recorded from continental Australia and the only terrestrial member of the subfamily not associated with any permanent aquatic habitat. It is probably closely related to Pseudeucinetus Heller, 1921, which is widespread in the Paleartic, Oriental and Australian regions. The new genus is apterous and characterized by the transverse head, widely separated eyes (space between them being larger than an eye diameter) and non-forwardly projecting frons. A key to all known genera of Thaumastodinae is provided.

RESUMO

A new troglobitic species of the subfamily Pselaphinae (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae), Tychobythinus antojandro sp. nov., is described from a cave in south Spain. The main diagnostic features based on male and female specimens are listed and illustrated. The new species shows evident adaptations to cave life, such as reduced eyes with only three ommatidia; reddish-brown in colour; absence of hind wings; and elongate legs and antennae. It can be easily separated from the rest of the Iberian species by the different shape of the aedeagus. So far, Tychobythinus antojandro sp. nov. is known only from its type locality, the limestone cave G.E.V.-2 in the Sierra de Cazorla in southern Spain.

RESUMO

A new species of the costal genus Brachemys Abeille de Perrin, 1890 is described from Crete, B. minotaurus n.sp. (Coleoptera, Malachiidae). The species is included in the subgenus Atelestodes Abeille de Perrin, 1890 due to the lack of modified protarsi, although the subgeneric classification of Brachemys may need to be revised. Specimens of the new species were found running on bare rock in the supralittoral zone, bearing a striking resemblance to ants.

RESUMO

Caccothryptus Sharp, 1902 is a genus of Limnichidae with a mainly Oriental distribution, with only some species at the fringes of the Palaearctic (Hernando & Ribera 2014, 2016). The genus was recently revised by Hernando & Ribera (2014), which described 14 new species and divided the by then 20 species in five species groups, the compactus, rouyeri, testudo, jaechi and zetteli groups. Subsequently, Yoshitomi (2015) described four additional species in the C. testudo group, rising the total number of species to 24. In this paper we describe three additional species in the testudo and compactus groups, among them the so far westernmost species of the genus, from Uttarakhand (India).

RESUMO

The knowledge of the Hydraenidae of sub-Saharan Africa, and in particular of the genus Hydraena Kugelann, 1794, is most incomplete. As an example, in southern Africa only three species were described before the revision of Perkins (2014), which raised the number to 31. Only 15 species are currently known from Central Africa, between the Sahel and South Africa, all belonging to subgenus Hydraenopsis Janssens, 1972 (Trizzino et al. 2013), but many more remain to be described and discovered. The islands of the Gulf of Guinea are no exception to this lack of knowledge (Jones 1994), and only one species of the family was previously known, H. (Hydraenopsis) pagaluensis Hernando & Ribera, 2001 from Annobón (Hernando & Ribera 2001; Trizzino et al. 2013). In this paper we describe the first known species of Hydraenidae from Bioko, the largest and closest to the continent of these islands. The species were collected by our friend and colleague Vasily Grebennikov during a survey of the forest litter fauna of Annobón and Bioko. Despite considerable efforts no Hydraenidae were found in Annobón, and only these two species, in a single locality, in Bioko.

RESUMO

A new species of the genus Parazuphium (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Zuphiini), Parazuphium aguileraisp. n., is described from the Tingitan peninsula in North Morocco. The only known specimen was found under a large deeply buried boulder, and belongs to an anophthalmous, depigmented and flattened species. This is the second species of blind Parazuphium known so far, the other being Parazuphium feloi Machado 1998 from a lava tube in the Canary Islands. Molecular data of the only known Parazuphium aguilerai sp. n. specimen are provided, and a reconstructed phylogeny based on these molecular data confirms its inclusion inside Zuphiini within Harpalinae. Identification keys to the Mediterranean and Macaronesian species of Parazuphium are provided.
