During the last two decades, several cases of venous thrombosis (VTE) after a prolonged period at a computer have been described, denominated as "eThrombosis". Video gaming on a computer has become very popular and can be a social activity where several players gather to play against each other or in a virtual environment for several days ("LAN (i.e., Local Area Network) parties") where the participants are sedentary and consuming calorie-rich food items. The aim of this study was to investigate potential coagulation activation during a 42 h LAN party. Nine male gamers volunteered for the LAN party. Citrated blood was sampled before and every 6 h, and plasma was analyzed for thrombin generation, thrombin-antithrombin complexes (TAT), prothrombin fragment 1 + 2 (F1 + 2), and D-dimer. Thrombin generation increased slightly but not significantly during the LAN party, whereas the coagulation activation markers were unchanged. These results do not indicate that the coagulation system is activated significantly during 42 h of gaming with minimal physical activity. Although increased activity cannot be excluded, it does not directly indicate a risk of VTE in general.

BACKGROUND: Vietnam is among 11 countries in the Western Pacific region that has developed a National Action Plan for Antimicrobial Resistance (NAPCA). METHODS: This scoping review characterises health system barriers to the implementation of the Vietnam NAPCA, with reference to the WHO Health Systems Framework. RESULTS: Over 7 years, between 2013 and 2020, the Ministry of Health (MOH) of Vietnam has been implementing activities to achieve the six NAPCA objectives. They include revision of regulations needed for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) prevention programs; formation and operation of national management bodies; improvement of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) in hospitals; maintenance of surveillance systems for AMR; provision of trainings on AMR and antibiotics use to doctors and pharmacists; and organization of nation-wide educational campaigns. Limited cooperation between MOH management bodies, shortages of human resource at all health system levels, a low degree of agreement between national and hospital guidelines on antibiotic use, low capability in the domestic supply of standardised drugs, and unequal training opportunities for lower-level health professionals present ongoing challenges. Actions suggested for the next period of the NAPCA include a final review of what has been achieved by the plan so far and evaluating the effectiveness of the different components of the plan. Different options on how to improve coordination across sectors in the development of a new NAPCA should be put forward. CONCLUSIONS: The 6-year implementation of the Vietnam NAPCA has yielded valuable lessons for AMS in Vietnam, guiding the development of future national plans, with a central focus on scaling up AMS in hospitals and promoting community AMS programs to combat AMR.

The pandemic of COVID-19 severe acute respiratory syndrome, which was fatal for millions of people worldwide, triggered the race to understand in detail the molecular mechanisms of this disease. In this work, the differences of interactions between the SARS-CoV/SARS-CoV-2 Receptor binding domain (RBD) and the human Angiotensin Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptor were studied using in silico tools. Our results show that SARS-CoV-2 RBD is more stable and forms more interactions with ACE2 than SARS-CoV. At its interface, three stable binding patterns are observed and named red-K31, green-K353 and blue-M82 according to the central ACE2 binding residue. In SARS-CoV instead, only the first two binding patches are persistently formed during the MD simulation. Our MM/GBSA calculations indicate the binding free energy difference of about 2.5 kcal/mol between SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV which is compatible with the experiments. The binding free energy decomposition points out that SARS-CoV-2 RBD-ACE2 interactions of the red-K31 ([Formula: see text]) and blue-M82 ([Formula: see text]) patterns contribute more to the binding affinity than in SARS-CoV ([Formula: see text] for red-K31), while the contribution of the green-K353 pattern is very similar in the two strains ([Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] for SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV, respectively). Five groups of mutations draw our attention at the RBD-ACE2 binding interface, among them, the mutation -PPA469-471/GVEG482-485 has the most important and favorable impact on SARS-CoV-2 binding to the ACE2 receptor. These results, highlighting the molecular differences in the binding between the two viruses, contribute to the common knowledge about the new corona virus and to the development of appropriate antiviral treatments, addressing the necessity of ongoing pandemics.

The development of superconcentrated or water-in-salt electrolytes (WISEs) has paved a new way toward realizing environmentally friendly, nonflammable batteries and supercapacitors based on aqueous electrolytes. The development of new electrolytes, such as WISEs, needs to be accompanied by further studies of the charging mechanism. This is essential to guide the choice of the electrode/electrolyte pairs for optimizing the performance of WISE-based supercapacitors. Therefore, to optimize the performance of carbon/carbon supercapacitors when using new, superconcentrated electrolytes, we present a detailed investigation of the carbon/electrolyte interface by combining electrochemical measurements with Raman and NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. In particular, NMR provides crucial information about the local environment of electrolyte ions inside the carbon pores of the electrode. The results show that the structure of the electrolyte strongly depends on the concentration of the electrolyte and affects the mechanism of charge storage at the positive and negative electrodes.

BACKGROUND: Sediment scour at downstream of hydraulic structures is one of the main reasons threatening its stability. Several soil properties and initial input data have been studied to investigate its influence on scour hole geometry by both physical and numerical models. However, parameters of resistance affecting sedimentation and erosion phenomena have not been carried out in the literature. Besides, the auxiliary-like wing walls prevalently used in many real applications have been rarely addressed for their effect on morphological change. RESULTS: In this study, a 3D Computational Fluid Dynamics model is utilized to calibrate the hydraulic characteristics of steady flow going through the culvert by comparison with experimental data, showing good agreement between water depth, velocity, and pressure profiles at the bottom of the boxed culvert. The results show that a grid cell of 0.015 m gave minimum NRMSE and MAE values in test cases. Another approach is numerical testing sediment scour at a meander flume outlet with a variety of roughness/d50 ratio (cs) and diversion wall types. The findings include the following: cs = 2.5 indicates the close agreement between the numerical and analytical results of maximum scour depth after the culvert; the influence of four types of wing wall on the geometrical deformation including erosion at the concave bank and deposition at the convex bank of the meander flume outlet; and two short headwalls represent the best solution that accounts for small morphological changes. CONCLUSIONS: The influence of the roughness parameter of soil material and headwall types on sediment scour at the meander exit channel of hydraulic structure can be estimated by the numerical model.

BACKGROUND: Before the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant arrived in Vietnam, case rates suggested seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 was low. Beginning in March 2021, we assessed different dosing schedules and adverse events following immunization (AEFIs) for ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine among healthcare workers (HCWs). METHODS: We performed a prospective cohort study to estimate the prevalence of IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 before and after ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccination. We conducted antibody testing among HCWs in February 2021 (baseline), before the second dose (June-July 2021), and 1 and 3 months after the second dose. We detected antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 using Tetracore® FlexImmArray™, and surrogate neutralizing antibodies using GenScript cPass™. Neither assay can distinguish natural from vaccine-induced antibodies. We assessed AEFIs through interview post-dose 1 and 1 month post-dose 2. RESULTS: Before vaccination, 1/617 participants (0.16%) had antibodies to SARS-CoV-2. Of these 617, 405 were vaccinated with ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 with 4-8- (60%), 9-12- (27%), or ≥13-week (13%) intervals between the 2 doses. Three months following series completion, 99% and 97% of vaccinated participants had ≥1 sample with detectable antibodies and surrogate neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, respectively. We observed no significant differences among those with different dosing intervals at last follow-up. All participants reported PCR testing for SARS-CoV-2 during the study; 2 (0.5%) were laboratory-confirmed. AEFIs were more frequent post-dose 1 (81%) vs post-dose 2 (21%). CONCLUSIONS: In this population, regardless of dosing interval, ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 induced antibodies within 3 months of the second dose. These findings may offer flexibility to policymakers when balancing programmatic considerations with vaccine effectiveness.

Background: The infodemic has been co-existing with the COVID-19 pandemic with an influx of misinformation and conspiracy theories. These affect people's psychological health and adherence to preventive measures. eHealth literacy (eHEALS) may help with alleviating the negative effects of the infodemic. As nursing students are future healthcare professionals, having adequate eHEALS skills is critically important in their clinical practice, safety, and health. This study aimed to (1) explore the eHEALS level and its associated factors, and (2) examine the associations of eHEALS with preventive behaviors, fear of COVID-19 (FCV-19S), anxiety, and depression among nursing students. Methods: We surveyed 1851 nursing students from 7 April to 31 May 2020 from eight universities across Vietnam. Data were collected, including demographic characteristics, eHEALS, adherence to preventive behaviors (handwashing, mask-wearing, physical distancing), FCV-19S, anxiety, and depression. Linear and logistic regression analyses were performed appropriately to examine associations. Results: The mean score of eHEALS was 31.4 ± 4.4. The eHEALS score was significantly higher in males (unstandardized regression coefficient, B, 0.94; 95% confidence interval, 95% CI, 0.15 to 1.73; p = 0.019), and students with a better ability to pay for medication (B, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.39 to 1.19; p < 0.001), as compared to their counterparts. Nursing students with a higher eHEALS score had a higher likelihood of adhering to hand-washing (odds ratio, OR, 1.18; 95% CI, 1.15 to 1.22; p < 0.001), mask-wearing (OR, 1.15; 95% CI, 1.12 to 1.19; p < 0.001), keeping a safe physical distance (OR, 1.20; 95% CI, 1.15 to 1.25; p < 0.001), and had a lower anxiety likelihood (OR, 0.95; 95% CI, 0.92 to 0.99; p = 0.011). Conclusions: Nursing students who were men and with better ability to pay for medication had higher eHEALS scores. Those with higher eHEALS scores had better adherence to preventive measures, and better psychological health. The development of strategies to improve eHEALS of nursing students may contribute to COVID-19 containment and improve their psychological health.

We evaluated the effects of the coronavirus disease pandemic on diagnosis of and treatment for tuberculosis (TB) in Vietnam. We obtained quarterly notifications for TB and multidrug-resistant/rifampin-resistant (MDR/RR) TB from 2015-2020 and evaluated changes in monthly TB case notifications. We used an interrupted time series to assess the change in notifications and treatment outcomes. Overall, TB case notifications were 8% lower in 2020 than in 2019; MDR/RR TB notifications were 1% lower. TB case notifications decreased by 364 (95% CI -1,236 to 508) notifications per quarter and MDR/RR TB by 1 (95% CI -129 to 132) notification per quarter. The proportion of successful TB treatment outcomes decreased by 0.1% per quarter (95% CI -1.1% to 0.8%) in 2020 compared with previous years. Our study suggests that Vietnam was able to maintain its TB response in 2020, despite the pandemic.

Sensitive and quantitative detection of molecular biomarkers is crucial for the early diagnosis of diseases like metabolic syndrome and cancer. Here we present a single-molecule sandwich immunoassay by imaging the number of single nanoparticles to diagnose aggressive prostate cancer. Our assay employed the photo-stable upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) as labels to detect the four types of circulating antigens in blood circulation, including glypican-1 (GPC-1), leptin, osteopontin (OPN), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), as their serum concentrations indicate aggressive prostate cancer. Under a wide-field microscope, a single UCNP doped with thousands of lanthanide ions can emit sufficiently bright anti-Stokes' luminescence to become quantitatively detectable. By counting every single streptavidin-functionalized UCNP which specifically labeled on each sandwich immune complex across multiple fields of views, we achieved the Limit of Detection (LOD) of 0.0123 ng/ml, 0.2711 ng/ml, 0.1238 ng/ml, and 0.0158 ng/ml for GPC-1, leptin, OPN and VEGF, respectively. The serum circulating level of GPC-1, leptin, OPN, and VEGF in a mixture of 10 healthy normal human serum was 25.17 ng/ml, 18.04 ng/ml, 11.34 ng/ml, and 1.55 ng/ml, which was within the assay dynamic detection range for each analyte. Moreover, a 20% increase of GPC-1 and OPN was observed by spiking the normal human serum with recombinant antigens to confirm the accuracy of the assay. We observed no cross-reactivity among the four biomarker analytes, which eliminates the false positives and enhances the detection accuracy. The developed single upconversion nanoparticle-assisted single-molecule assay suggests its potential in clinical usage for prostate cancer detection by monitoring tiny concentration differences in a panel of serum biomarkers.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: To compare the recurrence rate, post-treatment American Fertility Society (AFS) score, ongoing pregnancy rate, and endometrial thickness of 3 secondary prevention therapies in preventing recurrent intrauterine adhesions (IUAs) and increasing pregnancy rates in infertile women after hysteroscopic adhesiolysis. DESIGN: A retrospective study. SETTING: A private fertility hospital. PATIENTS: A total of 200 consecutive infertile women, with the desire to have a baby and were diagnosed as having IUAs detected by hysterosalpingogram, who underwent hysteroscopic adhesiolysis for IUAs from January, 2018 to May, 2020. INTERVENTIONS: Women who underwent hysteroscopic adhesiolysis received hormone therapy, and one of the 3 secondary preventions: hyaluronic acid (HA) gel alone, intrauterine devices (IUDs) alone, or HA gel + IUD. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: Of the 200 women included in the final analysis, 121 received HA alone, 59 were treated with IUD alone, and 20 received HA gel + IUD combination. The mean post-treatment AFS score for IUAs was significantly lower in the HA gel + IUD group than the HA alone or the IUD alone groups (adjusted p = .01 and p = .02, respectively). Multivariable analysis revealed a significantly lower recurrence rate in the women after treatment with HA gel + IUD than HA alone (adjusted odds ratio, 0.19; 95% credible interval [CreI], 0.03-0.88). Women treated with HA gel + IUD also had reduced post-treatment AFS scores compared with HA alone (ß coefficients, -0.83; 95% CreI, -1.64 to -0.01). For ongoing pregnancy rates after in vitro fertilization, the adjusted odds ratio for HA gel + IUD vs HA alone was 2.03 (95% CreI, 0.44-11.00) and for IUD alone vs HA alone was 1.13 (95% CreI, 0.41-3.29), indicating nonsignificant differences. There were no differences observed in endometrial thickness on the day of embryo transfer among the 3 groups. CONCLUSION: The investigation of the primary outcome in reducing the recurrence rate IUA after treatment demonstrated that a combination of HA gel + IUD provides greater prevention of recurrent IUAs and may decrease post-treatment AFS scores for infertile women undergoing hysteroscopic adhesiolysis. However, for the secondary outcome of increasing pregnancy rates, there was no improvement in the ongoing pregnancy rates after in vitro fertilization.

This work studies the Pb(II) removal onto bentonite clay modified by hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (HDTMA). Characterizations of the unmodified and modified materials were performed by using XRD, SEM, TG-DSC, FT-IR, and BET surface area analyses. Factors influencing the uptake of Pb(II) from aqueous solution, such as pHsolution, ion strength, uptake time, adsorbent dosage, and initial Pb(II) concentration, were examined. The obtained results showed that bentonite clay was successfully modified by HDTMA, resulting in an increase in its surface area by about 70 %. The Pb(II) adsorption onto modified bentonite clay reached equilibrium at pH = 5.0 after 120 min. Studies within the isotherm and kinetic models demonstrated that the adsorption followed the Sips isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity calculated from the Langmuir model at 30 °C was 25.8 mg/g, which is much higher than that obtained for the unmodified sample (18.9 mg/g). The FT-IR and TG-DSC analyses indicated that the formation of inner-sphere complexes plays a fundamental role in the mechanism of Pb(II) uptake onto HDTMA-bentonite clay. This mechanism of Pb(II) adsorption was further investigated, for the first time, by using the positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) and electron momentum (EMD) measurements. The PAL and EMD analyses indicated that the existence of Al and Si mono-vacancies in the HDTMA-bentonite should have essential contributions to the adsorption mechanism. In particular, we found a very interesting mechanism that the Pb(II) adsorption should occur inside the interlayer spaces of the HDTMA-bentonite.

ABSTRACT: Leigh syndrome is a rare progressive neurodegenerative disease with variable clinical presentations associated with mitochondrial dysfunction. However, the most common presentations are motor and intellectual developmental delays, with signs and symptoms of brainstem and basal ganglia involvement. We describe a 6-year-old boy with a history of delayed developmental milestones who presen-ted to our hospital due to unconscious status and respiratory distress syndrome. The patient underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and multiple subacute necrotic lesions were identified at the bilateral basal ganglia, thalamus, cerebral peduncles, brainstem, and cortical regions. DNA analysis was performed, which revealed muta-tions in SURF1. The patient experienced several relapses and died of respiratory failure and hospital-acquired infections, 3 years after the diagnosis of Leigh syndrome. Leigh syndrome should be considered in children with neurological problems and bilateral basal ganglia or brainstem abnormalities. Neurological MRI can be useful for guiding clinicians in ordering the most appropriate enzymatic and genetic analyses for further diagnosis.

Scrophularia lanceolata Pursh and Scrophularia marilandica L. are two common species within the Scrophulariaceae family that are endemic to North America. Historically, these species were used by indigenous peoples and colonialists to treat sunburn, sunstroke, frostbite, edema, as well as for blood purification, and in women's health. Several iridoid and phenylethanoid/phenylpropanoid glycosides detected in these species, such as harpagoside and verbascoside, possess anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive properties. Due to the presence of anti-inflammatory metabolites and the historical uses of these species, we performed a two-year field study to determine the optimal production of these important compounds. We subjected the plants to shade treatment and analyzed differences in the metabolite composition between the two species and each of their leaves, stems, and roots at various times throughout the growing seasons. We determined that S. lanceolata plants grown in full sun produced 0.63% harpagoside per dried weight in their leaves compared to shade-grown plants (0.43%). Furthermore, S. lanceolata accumulated more harpagoside than S. marilandica (0.24%). We also found that verbascoside accumulated in the leaves of S. lanceolata and S. marilandica as the growing season progressed, while the production of this metabolite remained mostly seasonally unchanged in the roots of both species.

Attachment of human adenovirus 40 (HAdV40) onto surfaces coated with three compositionally different household paints was evaluated experimentally and interpreted based on measured physicochemical properties of the paints. Polar, dispersive and electrostatic interactions between HAdV40 and the paints were predicted using the extended Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (XDLVO) model. Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM-D) was used to quantify virus attachment to paints from 1 mM and 150 mM NaCl solutions, with the latter having the ionic strength of a typical respiratory fluid. Acrylic latex water-based, alkyd water-based, and alkyd oil-based paints were all determined to be highly hydrophobic (ΔGsws < - 48 mJ/m2). XDLVO modeling and preliminary QCM-D tests evaluated virus-paint interactions within and outside pH windows of favorable virus-paint electrostatic interactions. Hydrophobic and electrostatic interactions governed virus attachment while van der Waals interactions played a relatively minor role. In higher ionic strength solutions, the extent of virus attachment correlated with the free energy of virus-paint interfacial interaction, [Formula: see text] : more negative energies corresponded to higher values of the areal mass density of attached viruses. Hydrophobicity was the dominant factor in determining virus adhesion from high ionic strength solutions where electrostatic interactions were screened out. The hydrophobicity of paints, while desirable for minimizing moisture intrusion, also facilitates attachment of colloids such as viruses. The results call for new approaches to the materials design of indoor paints with enhanced resistance to virus adhesion. Paints so formulated should help reduce human exposure to viruses.

BACKGROUND: The trans-membrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2) is essential for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) cell entry and infection. Efficacy and safety of TMPRSS2 inhibitors in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) have not been evaluated in randomized trials. METHODS: We conducted an investigator-initiated, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled multicenter trial in patients hospitalized with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection from April 4, to December 31, 2020. Within 48 h of admission, participants were randomly assigned in a 2:1 ratio to receive the TMPRSS2 inhibitor camostat mesilate 200 mg three times daily for 5 days or placebo. The primary outcome was time to discharge or clinical improvement measured as ≥2 points improvement on a 7-point ordinal scale. Other outcomes included 30-day mortality, safety and change in oropharyngeal viral load. FINDINGS: 137 patients were assigned to receive camostat mesilate and 68 to placebo. Median time to clinical improvement was 5 days (interquartile range [IQR], 3 to 7) in the camostat group and 5 days (IQR, 2 to 10) in the placebo group (P = 0·31). The hazard ratio for 30-day mortality in the camostat compared with the placebo group was 0·82 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0·24 to 2·79; P = 0·75). The frequency of adverse events was similar in the two groups. Median change in viral load from baseline to day 5 in the camostat group was -0·22 log10 copies/mL (p <0·05) and -0·82 log10 in the placebo group (P <0·05). INTERPRETATION: Under this protocol, camostat mesilate treatment was not associated with increased adverse events during hospitalization for Covid-19 and did not affect time to clinical improvement, progression to ICU admission or mortality. With the emergence of multidrug resistance (MDR) bacteria, wound infection continues to be a challenging problem and represents a considerable healthcare burden. This study aims to evaluate the applicability of a phage loaded thermosensitive hydrogel in managing wound infections caused by MDR Acinetobacter baumannii, using IME-AB2 phage and MDR-AB2 as the model phage and bacteria, respectively. Excellent storage stability of the IME-AB2 phage in a ~18 wt% Poloxamer 407 (P407) hydrogel solution was first demonstrated with negligible titer loss (~0.5 log) in 24 months at 4 °C. The incorporated phage was released in a sustained manner with a cumulative release of 60% in the first 24 h. The in vitro bacterial killing efficiency of phage gel and phage suspension at 37 °C demonstrated >5 log10 CFU/ml reduction against A. baumannii. A comparable biofilm elimination capacity was also noted between the phage gel and phage suspension (59% and 45% respectively). These results suggested that the incorporation of phage into the hydrogel not only had insignificant impacts on the bacterial killing efficiency of phage, but also act as a phage depot to maintain higher phage titer at the infectious site for a prolong period for more effective treatment. We also found that the hydrogel formulation significantly suppressed microbial survival in an ex vivo wound infection model using pig skin (90% reduction in bacterial counts was achieved after 4 h treatment). In summary, our results demonstrated that the P407-based phage-loaded thermosensitive hydrogel is a simple and promising phage formulation for the management of wound infections.

The translocator protein (TSPO) is a 18kDa transmembrane protein, ubiquitously present in human mitochondria. It is overexpressed in tumor cells and at the sites of neuroinflammation, thus representing an important biomarker, as well as a promising drug target. In mammalian TSPO, there are cholesterol-binding motifs, as well as a binding cavity able to accommodate different chemical compounds. Given the lack of structural information for the human protein, we built a model of human (h) TSPO in the apo state and in complex with PK11195, a molecule routinely used in positron emission tomography (PET) for imaging of neuroinflammatory sites. To better understand the interactions of PK11195 and cholesterol with this pharmacologically relevant protein, we ran molecular dynamics simulations of the apo and holo proteins embedded in a model membrane. We found that: (i) PK11195 stabilizes hTSPO structural fold; (ii) PK11195 might enter in the binding site through transmembrane helices I and II of hTSPO; (iii) PK11195 reduces the frequency of cholesterol binding to the lower, N-terminal part of hTSPO in the inner membrane leaflet, while this impact is less pronounced for the upper, C-terminal part in the outer membrane leaflet, where the ligand binding site is located; (iv) very interestingly, cholesterol most frequently binds simultaneously to the so-called CRAC and CARC regions in TM V in the free form (residues L150-X-Y152-X(3)-R156 and R135-X(2)-Y138-X(2)-L141, respectively). However, when the protein is in complex with PK11195, cholesterol binds equally frequently to the CRAC-resembling motif that we observed in TM I (residues L17-X(2)-F20-X(3)-R24) and to CRAC in TM V. We expect that the CRAC-like motif in TM I will be of interest in future experimental investigations. Thus, our MD simulations provide insight into the structural features of hTSPO and the previously unknown interplay between PK11195 and cholesterol interactions with this pharmacologically relevant protein.

Acetyl-hexapeptide 3 (AHP-3) has good efficacy and safety profile as an anti-wrinkle small peptide. However, its skin permeation is poor due to its hydrophilicity and large molecular weight. 3D printing of personalised microneedles (MN), that contour to the skin surface, offers an attractive alternative for delivery for AHP-3. However, commercially available photocurable resin for 3D printing are not suitable for fabrication of drug loaded delivery systems. In this study, two liquid monomers, namely, polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) and vinyl pyrrolidone (VP), were investigated at various proportions, for critical parameters such as mechanical strength of final polymer, rate of polymerisation, rate of swelling of final polymer, 3D printing resolution and safety profile of final polymer. The optimal resin, based on the above parameters, was that of ratio 7 VP: 3 PEGDA in weight. Drug loading into the optimal resin demonstrated that AHP-3 remained stable throughout the fabrication process and there was no effect on the physical properties of final polymer. Using a 3D scanned face model, a personalised MN patch was designed using computer aided design (CAD) software and subsequently fabricated using a Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printer, with the optimal resin. In vitro characterisation of fabricated MN patch demonstrated the ability to penetrate human cadaver dermatomed skin and the MN remained intact after compression. The final polymer also had minimal cytotoxicity to human dermal fibroblast. Therefore, personalised MN patch fabricated using the photopolymer can potentially be a novel approach to augment transdermal delivery of AHP-3 for effective wrinkle management.

Assessing healthy diet literacy and eating behaviors is critical for identifying appropriate public health responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. We examined the psychometric properties of digital healthy diet literacy (DDL) and its association with eating behavior changes during the COVID-19 pandemic among nursing and medical students. We conducted a cross-sectional study from 7 April to 31 May 2020 at 10 public universities in Vietnam, in which 7616 undergraduate students aged 19-27 completed an online survey to assess socio-demographics, clinical parameters, health literacy (HL), DDL, and health-related behaviors. Four items of the DDL scale loaded on one component explained 71.32%, 67.12%, and 72.47% of the scale variances for the overall sample, nursing, and medical students, respectively. The DDL scale was found to have satisfactory item-scale convergent validity and criterion validity, high internal consistency reliability, and no floor or ceiling effect. Of all, 42.8% of students reported healthier eating behavior during the pandemic. A 10-index score increment of DDL was associated with 18%, 23%, and 17% increased likelihood of healthier eating behavior during the pandemic for the overall sample (OR, 1.18; 95%CI, 1.13, 1.24; p < 0.001), nursing students (OR, 1.23; 95%CI, 1.10, 1.35; p < 0.001), and medical students (OR, 1.17; 95%CI, 1.11, 1.24; p < 0.001), respectively. The DDL scale is a valid and reliable tool for the quick assessment of digital healthy diet literacy. Students with higher DDL scores had a higher likelihood of healthier eating behavior during the pandemic.

A Gram-stain-negative, facultative anaerobic, motile, short rods and yellow-pigmented bacterium, designated strain THG-DN7.12T, was isolated from water collected at Jungwon waterfall on Yongmun mountain, Republic of Korea. According to 16S rRNA gene sequence comparisons, strain THG-DN7.12T was found to be most closely related to Aquitalea denitrificans 5YN1-3T (98.9 % sequence similarity), Aquitalea magnusonii TRO-001DR8T (98.7 %) and Aquitalea pelogenes P1297T (98.0 %). The DNA-DNA relatedness between strain THG-DN7.12T and its phylogenetically closest neighbours was below 70.0 %. The strain's DNA G+C content was 59.7 mol%. The major polar lipid was found to be phosphatidylethanolamine. Summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c) and C16 : 0 were identified as the major fatty acids. Ubiquinone Q-8 was detected as the only respiratory quinone. These data supported the affiliation of strain THG-DN7.12T to the genus Aquitalea. Strain THG-DN7.12T was distinguished from related Aquitalea species by physiological and biochemical tests. Therefore, the novel isolate represents a novel species, for which the name Aquitalea aquatilis sp. nov. is proposed, with THG-DN7.12T as the type strain (=KACC 18847T=CCTCC AB 2016185T).
